Pregnant after IVF

Is anyone out there pregnant after IVF? I'm on an IVF thread but don't want to keep posting about being pregnant when women there are still going through treatment and also getting BFNs.

I had my first round of IVF in November and we got 2 embryos. My first fresh transfer failed and I'm now 5+2 after our frozen transfer.

I'm feeling a bit wobbly today because my symptoms (cramping and super sore boobs) seem to have disappeared, even though I got 3+ on a digital test yesterday.

Just fancy talking to other women who are pregnant after treatment and can relate to all the emotion and worries.

@Scarlett868 aw such good news! Didn’t know that about IvF pregnancies. But at least more appointments checking! Glad it went well for you x

Laura23FE · 03/03/2023 22:01

@Lucy5yearsttc definitely agree with you about it dragging haha I’m only 7 weeks 5 days and I feel like it’s been about 20 weeks haha

can’t wait for us all to have our 12 weeks scans ❤️

@Scarlett868 never knew that ! There’s always something new to learn with IVF

Laura23FE · 08/03/2023 07:32

How is everybody feeling ?

I was in home sense yesterday and all of a sudden my nipples felt like they were on fire in my bra 🤣 I had to take it off (discreetly)

Any tips for the sickness ? Ginger tea and ginger biscuits do not work haha

Dbop100 · 08/03/2023 21:39

@Laura23FE I'm really struggling with the nausea. I have about 1-3hrs when I wake up feeling ok and then it starts and gets worse and worse until I'm fighting the urge to be sick as I try and fall asleep. I am managing to force myself to keep food and my meds down but the relentless nausea is brutal. It's been all day every day for 2.5 weeks now. My GP has prescribed me Cyclizine which took the edge off last week and then stopped working, today we've also added Domperidone into the mix.

Obviously thrilled to be pregnant after such a long wait but finding getting to 12 weeks really really challenging. Feeling guilty for complaining and then also Terrified it might go away. Trying to get through one day at a time xxx

Laura23FE · 09/03/2023 11:13

@Dbop100 oh my gosh I know, I wake up at around 2am and feel soooo nauseous, i'm opposite to you though, mine is more in the morning and then settles as the day goes on, so hard to be able to do anything when you feel like this, my friend said women should get mandatory shorter hours at work for the first 16 weeks or pregnancy and I have to agree😂xx

Laur0606 · 09/03/2023 11:14

I finally had my scan today at 7 weeks+3. Baby was looking perfect with a strong heartbeat, so relieved and happy 🥰🥰

My nhs scan isn’t until I’m 13 and a bit weeks so I think I will pay for one around 10-11 weeks for that extra reassurance.

@Laura23FE No tips for nausea @Dbop100. Mine started around 5 weeks and has settled into a pattern of worse on waking, lots of retching and then continues throughout the day if I don’t eat every 2 hours. I feel like all I’m doing is eating.

Laura23FE · 09/03/2023 11:49

@Laur0606 weird that eating helps isn't it, haha I have never ate so often in my life 😂trying to eat little and often though so I don't turn into a whale haha

We see the midwife on the 16th so won't know our scan date till then but we have booked a private one at 10 weeks as I know I won't be able to wait an extra 2/3 weeks

acaciabluebell · 09/03/2023 13:35

@Laura23FE Yes the nausea is a killer! I don't throw up but gag and dry heave a lot and feel nauseous constantly. I bought some nausea bands yesterday, so far feeling okay - hopefully they will help. I'm 9 weeks tomorrow, been booked in for my NHS scan for 3rd April. Feels like ages away!

runningismytherapy · 09/03/2023 15:31

Just went for our NIPT test - bloods and scans - been looking forward to this for ages as not asleep Pip since week 6 viability scan.
Clinic was shut, and not answering phone (despite taking deposit). Have since text to say the booking was somehow deleted (!!) Am soooo angry / sad, feel like I’ve been holding out for this reassurance.
Got 12 week NHS scan a week today so don’t think there is any point getting another one done in the interim 😢
Appreciate it’s minor in the whole scheme of things, was just really relying on this for peace of mind. x

Dbop100 · 10/03/2023 11:36

I'm sorry @runningismytherapy that sounds awful and so disappointing - I hope that the time goes quickly before your 12wk scan next week xx

Congrats on the 7wk scan @Laur0606 💕

Thanks for the nausea sympathy everyone, I've sacked off the Domperidone as I hated the way it made me feel and trying something else later today. Hoping I only have 3.5 weeks left of feeling like this! Things friends have recommended and have worked well for me: salt&vinegar crisps, eating protein as much as possible, sipping on chocolate milk (yahoo), having lots of snacks instead of big meals.

My 12 so scan is 03/04 but we've booked in one for next Saturday when I will be almost 10 weeks just for reassurance as my last scan was 7 weeks. Counting down the days! SO glad it's Friday xx

mrsmacmc · 10/03/2023 22:51

Hi all been a bit quiet sorry! I'm now 17+3, had a scare earlier this week with some bleeding which seems to be resolving 🤞🏻 and currently on rest until MW appt next week. 🫘 is OK but they couldn't locate where the bleed had stemmed from. Feels odd as was starting to destress and relax 😩 a little which has rocketed again feeling anxious every time I go to the loo in case I see 🩸 again

Laura23FE · 11/03/2023 11:38

@Dbop100 oooh I will definitely be trying salt and vinegar crisps and chocolate milk haha good luck for your 10 week scan❤️

@runningismytherapy how annoying that must be, I would be so angry :( hopefully the next week flys by ☺️

@mrsmacmc nearly half way ! So stressful when you see blood :( unexplained bleeding seems very common, I have my fingers crossed you don’t get any more big bleeds as it is so scary and you don’t need the stress at all, glad to hear your little bean is good ☺️

I had some 0% Prosecco last night and woke up with a headache worse than if I had drank normal Prosecco😂 think il be sticking to sparkling water from now on haha

Dbop100 · 12/03/2023 17:14

Hope everyone's had a good weekend.

I noticed that my morning sickness had subsided on Friday and Saturday so I brought our private scan forward to this afternoon just for reassurance. Baby is measuring 1 day ahead at 9 weeks and looking all good. Really glad I brought it forward so I have the reassurance this week. It had grown so much from week 7 to week 9 it's amazing it looks sort of like a baby already!

Also the morning sickness came back 1 hr before the scan lol

Laura23FE · 12/03/2023 17:58

@Dbop100 amazing 😍😍 I have the pregnancy plus app and it’s amazing to see the progress our babies make inside of us so quickly ❤️ typical morning sickness 🤣 mine has been horrendous all weekend

acaciabluebell · 13/03/2023 00:01

Anyone else stopping IVF medications at 10 weeks? Feeling really nervous about this. I don't have much extra so can't continue more than a few days after.

Izzie94x · 13/03/2023 17:09

@acaciabluebell I was advised to come off of them at 8 weeks! And that realllly scared me. Lol! So I begged the clinic for a few more boxes of pessaries, they gave them to me! (We paid privately so might be different) but I then had enough for 2 a day until 11 weeks and 1 a day till 12 weeks. And it defo made me feel better but I probably waste £60 on more that I didn’t need lol! But I get why you’d be anxious x

Laura23FE · 13/03/2023 18:12

@acaciabluebell my clinic says to take them up till 12 weeks but I have seen other ladies day their clinic stops at week 6/7 so I think everywhere is different x

runningismytherapy · 13/03/2023 21:51

@acaciabluebell i stopped at 8 weeks, and all good :)
Would advise weaning off though, as had bad migraines (could be 100% coincidental, but if possible would avoid going cold turkey!!)

MsSandyToes · 14/03/2023 10:40

Hi everyone. I'm panicking, started spotting this morning dark brown and have just wiped and had red blood. I'm waiting in the doctors surgery now. 9+4 today and it's my birthday. This is not how I'd hoped to spend it. Just back from a weekend away so I'm wondering if the flying has caused something. Hope you all had a lovely weekend. Any reassurance about spotting and blood appreciated 😬😔

runningismytherapy · 14/03/2023 12:16

@MsSandyToes sorry to hear that. Lots of people on here have had spotting and all has been well so fingers crossed for some reassurance from the doc 🤞🏼🤞🏼
let us know how you get on.
and happy birthday!! x

Dbop100 · 14/03/2023 12:44

@MsSandyToes I had a sudden heavy bright red bleed at 6 weeks which lasted all afternoon and I had cramps and it was all fine but I would advise getting a scan just so you can feel reassured. Hope you're able to get this done asap so you can feel better and hopefully enjoy (or at least relax) the rest of your Birthday xxx let us know how you go xx

Purrrrr · 14/03/2023 13:41

@MsSandyToes Happy birthday! I had some spotting when I was 7+4 (weirdly on my birthday too). I was seen in the EPU and diagnosed with a subchorionic haematoma, which is apparently quite common in IVF pregnancies. I had another scan at 10+1 and it had reabsorbed. Bleeding is very scary but apparently it is more common than you’d think and the majority of pregnancies go on to be fine. I’d contact your local EPU and see if they can bring you in for a scan x

acaciabluebell · 14/03/2023 13:43

@Izzie94x @Laura23FE @runningismytherapy thank you ladies! I literally will only have 5 pessaries left over after I reach 10 weeks. I normally do 2 per day so if I take one per day will that be enough to wean myself off? Or would you recommend taking one every other day to make it last longer. I also have 3 extra progesterone injections which I'm thinking of spacing out over the week. I have loads of estrogen tabs and patches left, do you think it's necessary to wean off those as well? I did a frozen embryo transfer so I'm on a very dose of meds!

@MsSandyToes I had bleeding and spotting for 2 weeks and when I went for a scan everything was fine. I think bleeding can be quite common after IVF so I am sure it's completely fine. Hoping for the best for you 🤞🏼

Dbop100 · 14/03/2023 14:18

@acaciabluebell have you asked them if you can extend it for 2 more weeks? Surely if you're feeling worried they won't say no? I'm on meds until 12 weeks and I also did a frozen transfer. Had my 9 week scan on Sunday and I asked if they could see a placenta and they said not yet so I don't understand how I could stop my meds until there was one. However I am of course not a doctor xx

Laura23FE · 14/03/2023 14:33

@MsSandyToes hopefully it is nothing, I bled at 5 weeks and when I spoke to my friend who had a non ivf pregnancy she bled at 5 weeks too and also 11 weeks so it’s definitely more common than we realise .. got my fingers crossed you and baby are all ok xx

@acaciabluebell i was also a FET and I am on 200micrograms of estradot patches every 4 days for my estrogen and 2 pessaries a day, my clinic hasn’t mentioned about weaning off them and I only have enough of both for the 12 weeks so I will be going cold turkey 😬 I have only heard people talk about weaning off the progesterone so I think you will be ok to just stop the estrogen xx
