Pregnant after IVF

Is anyone out there pregnant after IVF? I'm on an IVF thread but don't want to keep posting about being pregnant when women there are still going through treatment and also getting BFNs.

I had my first round of IVF in November and we got 2 embryos. My first fresh transfer failed and I'm now 5+2 after our frozen transfer.

I'm feeling a bit wobbly today because my symptoms (cramping and super sore boobs) seem to have disappeared, even though I got 3+ on a digital test yesterday.

Just fancy talking to other women who are pregnant after treatment and can relate to all the emotion and worries.

@Feelslikeforever22 absolutely amazing news 🤩 what a strong boy Finn is and gaining weight nicely .. I can’t even imagine how good it must feel to be able to take your baby home after that long in hospital🥹

I cannot WAIT for autumn 😂🥵

acaciabluebell · 23/09/2023 09:07

Hi ladies! I hope you are all well. I wanted to give an update. Heads up, this post contains my birth story (including complications) and it's quite long. But has a happy ending 😊

On 12th September when I was 35 weeks and 4 days pregnant I went to the toilet in the morning and felt leakage which didn't feel like pee. I stood up from the toilet and liquid started gushing down my legs - my waters had well and truly broken. I called up the hospital and was asked to come in. I was admitted to be monitored to see if I go into labour and was also given antibiotics to prevent infection. On that day, I had absolutely no pains, no contractions, no infection markers, everything seemed fine and they discussed discharging me, but wanted to keep me one more day to keep an eye.

The following day they saw a bit of protein in my urine and I had some significantly elevated liver function results which they planned to repeat in the following day to check for preclampsia. That evening I started feeling period pains, I wasn't sure if these were actually contractions as I felt no tightening at all. They got worse and worse, and that night I couldn't sleep. At 4am I was checked and told I was 2cm dilated and in early labour. Because my water had broken, the doctor told me they wouldnt be checking me again for dilation unless it was absolutely necessary due to the risk of infection.

By 7am the pains had gotten worse, and the midwives felt I was I seemed to be in labour so I got moved to Labour and Delivery. I was put on continuous CTG monitoring due to being preterm, but seeing as all my pain was in my back, the machine didn't pick up any contractions whatsoever. The midwives told me to let them know when my contractions became regular. I was having very inconsistent contractions. So I wasn't sure if I was in proper established labour. By 4pm the pains had gotten so bad I begged the doctor to check me - so they did, with a speculum instead of fingers - and I was 5cm dilated. I got given gas and air at this point but I didn't feel it helped one bit.

Suddenly, within the next 20-30 minutes my contractions became really close together and were every 1-2 minutes. I asked for an epidural and the doctor said that she would check one more time and I was already 9.5cm dilated. It was too late for an epidural. Unfortunately I was so exhausted I couldn't push properly and 2 hours later I was still pushing, I was losing energy fast. So the doctors used a suction machine to deliver my daughter and she was born on 14.9.23, weighing 7lb 0z 😊

Soon after delivery is when the drama starred as I immediately began to hemorrhage. I lost a catastrophic amount of blood very quickly - 80% of my total blood volume - and was immediately rushed into surgery where I was put under general anesthetic and given 6 blood transfusions and countless drugs to save my life. Thankfully they worked and I am here today to be able to look after my daughter. I spent 4 days in the High Dependency Unit under 1:1 care. While there I also developed sepsis, and it was confirmed I had preclampsia. It's been a real roller coaster, I am still severely anemic and on antibiotics, blood thinning injections and blood pressure tablets, but we were able to go home a few days ago and it's such an amazing feeling.

I hope you ladies are all doing okay in your last few weeks of pregnancy and I look forward to hearing your stories soon 😊❤️

Feelslikeforever22 · 23/09/2023 12:29

@acaciabluebell wow! What an incredible story. It sounds very scary but so glad you are on the mend and your baby girl made it here safely. Take care of yourself and test up as much as you can. Congratulations! 💕

ivf2022 · 23/09/2023 12:50

@acaciabluebell thank you for sharing your story. What a scary experience for you but so glad your baby girl is here safely and you are getting better. Take care of yourself ❤️

Scarlett868 · 23/09/2023 13:54

@acaciabluebell so glad to hear you and baby are ok! Sounds like such a lot to have went through.

How are all you ladies gearing up. I feel a lot of you are due next month.

My little boy is 5 months next week its genuinely the fastest most incredible time of my life. The pregnancy felt like it went on forever haha. Soak up every moment!

Laur0606 · 24/09/2023 10:41

Congratulations @acaciabluebell! What a rollercoaster from start to finish. So relieved to hear that you are recovering well. What a scary experience to go through. Wishing you a really happy maternity, enjoy those newborn cuddles!

How is everyone else getting on? I feel like a lot of the ivf mums have delivered early which makes me nervous. 36 weeks and 1 days here, I have a section booked in for the 16th October xxx

Scarlett868 · 24/09/2023 13:47

@Laur0606 ooohh so exciting. Don't worry about your section. I had an emergency one and I still found it to be a good experience as soon as I got the pain relief lol.
Found recovery good too. Just keep on top of the ibuprofen and paracetamol and you will be grand. First few days will be sore but its amazing how much your body heals in a short space of time.

Do you know what your having or is it a surprise? Xx

Laura23FE · 25/09/2023 11:10

@acaciabluebell oh wow ! Congratulations on the birth of your daughter, glad to hear you are both doing well now, it must have been so scary 😭💖

I’m 37+3 and have a c section booked in for the 12th oct (due date is 13th oct) however we are seeing the consultant on Thursday and I’m going to speak with her as she said my hospitals rule is to induce at week 39 for IVF so not sure why they are leaving my c section till 39+6
nervous but excited to meet our baby boy ! Well and truly fed up of being pregnant now 😂😂 spending most of my days twiddling my thumbs as I got made redundant at the end of august so haven’t been in work for over 3 weeks now haha

Purrrrr · 26/09/2023 07:56

Wow @acaciabluebell that sounds really scary, but I’m glad you’re ok and congratulations on the birth of your daughter! How are you both doing now?

My little boy arrived on 21 September 2023 via elective c-section (2 weeks early). We are absolutely smitten.

Lucy5yearsttc · 26/09/2023 11:17

Laura23FE · 12/10/2023 04:39

Hi ladies,
I had my c section on Monday and our gorgeous baby boy was born at 2.37pm, he is absolutely perfect in every way and we were out of hospital and home within 24 hours, he’s settled in so well, currently awake feeding him whilst he carries in sleeping 💙
Keep looking at home and crying because I can’t believe he’s actually here and he’s ours 🥰 never felt a love like it x

Scarlett868 · 12/10/2023 07:58

@Laura23FE congratulations!!!

So many baby boys in this group. Enjoy your baby bubble it really is the most magical time 🩵.

I remember the tears at that time too.

We all have been through it to get to this point. So glad we are all out the other side with our little miracles ✨️

Feelslikeforever22 · 12/10/2023 08:20

@Purrrrr @Lucy5yearsttc @Laura23FE congratulations ladies! Enjoy your precious little ones!

I had the dentist the other day and the journey took me right past my fertility clinic. Walking that path as a mother now, it suddenly hit me what I’ve been through the last few years. It’s such an incredible feeling being on the other side of it!

JuliaIVF83 · 12/10/2023 11:20

I had a baby boy too last Friday via c section! 8lbs 9 at birth - my little chub. What a rollercoaster these last 5 years have been - can’t believe I’ve finally got my little boy. No feeling like it !!!

I think boys are meant to be more common from IVF ?!

congrats everyone - now time to soak it all in !! Xxx

Dbop100 · 12/10/2023 15:19

Congratulations everyone!

I gave birth to our baby girl via c-section on Monday too! 💕

We're so totally in love with her, can't believe she's finally here after waiting so long for her. I had a quick read back to our messages at the start of this thread when we were all in our first trimesters. I can't believe how much has happened since then. I can't believe the little embryo we transferred is now our beautiful girl - so grateful for the science that helped us get here.

Hope you all enjoy every second of this, we deserve it after everything we've been through xxx

runningismytherapy · 13/10/2023 07:09

A little boy here too! Born 22/09.
I have also done a lot of crying - happy tears - about finally having my babe in my arms :)
lots of love to everyone, hope you’re doing well. xx

Laura23FE · 17/10/2023 19:21

Baby is 8 days old now and it’s been the best 8 days of my life 😭💙 well and truly obsessed with him, don’t want the baby bubble to ever end, absolutely loving it

acaciabluebell · 18/10/2023 20:48

Congratulations to all you lovely ladies on your new arrivals!! My daughter is 5 weeks old and just the light of our lives. I still can't believe she started out as a tiny day 5 blastocyst frozen in a lab somewhere.

Wishing all the best of luck to anyone who is still waiting xxx

Lucy5yearsttc · 19/10/2023 00:21

I’m so glad for everyone! I find that when I’m up all hours of the night I’m still just grateful that I’m in this position.
sending love to you all and your miracle babies and hope to those still waiting xx

Laur0606 · 23/10/2023 08:06

Congratulations to all the new mums and sending love to those still waiting!

Our second daughter (first ICSI) baby was born on the 18/10, completely perfect weighing 8lb! Unfortunately we had a pretty difficult planned section with a failed spinal and then I had a a major haemorrhage 22 hours later which meant surgery under general anaesthetic and 4 blood transfusions. It was all quite a traumatic and scary experience but so worth it to have our daughter here with us.

Feeling unbelievable lucky to now be home with my family and enjoying the newborn bubble!

PennySong · 11/03/2024 11:36

I'm pregnant for the first time with IVF. I can't believe it all worked the first cycle. So surprised!
I've only been pregnant one week although officially that is four weeks.
Can't get my head around pregnancy maths 😂

I had implantation bleeding & cramps and thought it was over. But I got a BFP 🥳

LiIacMoon · 11/03/2024 13:27

@PennySong Congratulations.

I'm currently 22 weeks via ivf.
I still have to pinch myself everyday

PennySong · 11/03/2024 14:22

@LiIacMoon That's amazing! Congratulations! 🥳 And thank you. Sometimes I forget and then remember again. It's only just happened.

I tested too early and thought there might be a faint second line. The next day I used a digital frer. Seeing that 'Pregnant' was unbelievable. I ran around the house making a racket. 😂
