Pregnant after IVF

Is anyone out there pregnant after IVF? I'm on an IVF thread but don't want to keep posting about being pregnant when women there are still going through treatment and also getting BFNs.

I had my first round of IVF in November and we got 2 embryos. My first fresh transfer failed and I'm now 5+2 after our frozen transfer.

I'm feeling a bit wobbly today because my symptoms (cramping and super sore boobs) seem to have disappeared, even though I got 3+ on a digital test yesterday.

Just fancy talking to other women who are pregnant after treatment and can relate to all the emotion and worries.

I'm 30+4. The exhaustion definitely came back for me at 29 weeks. Just trying to rest as much as possible. I also had a week of feeling very emotional and tearful, that's stopped now so I'm putting it down to hormones!

We are also nesting at the moment! Just finished the nursery and also having a declutter of the whole house. I've nearly finished packing my hospital bag too. @Laura23FE your nursery is beautiful 😍

@Feelslikeforever22 that sounds so scary, so pleased baby is doing well now and still cooking nicely!

I was planning on working til 38 weeks but thinking now I might change that to 37 weeks as I'm already struggling with the fatigue. What's everyone else doing?

runningismytherapy · 02/08/2023 14:56

I’m 32 + 3. Also feeling the fatigue but don’t think late shifts helps with that. Plus I’m my own worst enemy when it comes to relaxing 🤯

sorry to hear about the bleeds, must be super stressful. Glad little one is staying put for now 🥰

Have done some nesting but still definitely got bits to do. Determined not to buy too much but hubs is obsessed with Vinted 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣🤦🏽‍♀️

anyone done any prenatal stuff?? We did hypnobirthing and I was quite impressed. Actually now considering a home birth, just waiting to see if the high risk label rules me out.

Currently working up to due date, not sure how much use I’ll be by then!! x

Laura23FE · 02/08/2023 17:12

@ivf2022 ahh thank you, we need to get some stuff up on the walls, going for jungle theme so got some animal heads for the walls and a cute personalised world map which we got off Etsy
I’ so excited to pack my hospital bag 😂😂🥰

all the pregnancy classes near us are fully booked so I’m panicking that we haven’t done any classes .. got a lady coming to the house in a few weeks and doing a baby first aid course with us and my parents but that’s about it 😭

I’m being made redundant at 32 weeks so will be stopping work then 🙄 going to embrace the time to rest before baby comes though

feels like they will all be here before we know it 🥰🤩😍

Feelslikeforever22 · 02/08/2023 18:47

@Laura23FE your nursery is so cute. My partner just finished ours but it doubles as a guest bedroom and it’s definitely my favourite place to hang out now.

4D scan was a bit of a bust. He had his hand in front of his face at first and remained asleep the whole time. All he did after me jumping around and then actually leaving to go and get something to eat and drink was yawn a few times and add a leg to cover his face! 😂 It’s so typical. He’s usually so active but he was not cooperating at all so we’re booked for a free rescan on Monday. None of my private or NHS scans have been as clear as I’d like but I have a feeling he will stay a mystery until birth.

@ivf2022 we’ve been decluttering too. I find it so satisfying! I’m thinking of getting a cleaner to come in before baby comes and just give it a deeper clean than I’m currently capable of achieving.

@runningismytherapy we’ve done the free baby care class with the baby academy and we’re booked to do their first aid class too. And also signed up to my hospital’s feeding class.
It’s great that you’re considering a home birth. I hope you get to have the birth you want.
I know I have to have a c section so it’s taken a lot of the potential anxiety about my birth experience out of the picture.

I’ve told work I’ll be finishing at 34 weeks so I’ll hopefully have a couple of weeks to “relax” and do any final bits.

Feelslikeforever22 · 02/08/2023 18:53

We got these stickers from Etsy too x

Hi everyone! Your nurseries look so lovely 💕ours is still a DIY mess, the flat is covered in stuff and it's chaos 🙈😂

29 weeks this week and I had really wanted the room to be finished decorating before I start to buy stuff so I have somewhere to put it all away, starting to feel a bit anxious that I'm getting behind on everything 😬 I'm sure it'll be ok if she stays in there until 40 weeks but am a bit worried about what will happen if she comes early.

I'm meant to be working up to 38 weeks, but I will likely Wfh the last couple of weeks before I finish.

Had a growth scan last week at 28 weeks and she's measuring BIG (about 3 weeks ahead) so they sent me for a gestational diabetes test which was thankfully negative, so she's just big 🤷‍♀️

We started an NCT type class on Monday, so it's starting to feel really real now which is so exciting.

Am loving this part of pregnancy now I don't feel sick anymore, feeling her kicks are magical and something I really thought would never be a possibility for me. Hope you're all feeling happy and well xx

Laur0606 · 03/08/2023 21:25

Hi everyone!

Sorry to hear about the bleed @Feelslikeforever22. Must have been so stressful. I’m so glad things worked out ok.

Lovely pictures of the nurseries 🥰
I really need to get organised, 29 weeks this week and haven’t done anything with the nursery and still have a list of things we need to buy.

I don’t know anyone else pregnant the same time as me in my local area so have joined a pregnancy yoga class from next week with the hope of making mum friends for Mat leave. The group of women I met when my daughter was a baby have all had their second and some their third babies and are now back in work. I found it quite difficult staying in touch with them when we were struggling with secondary infertility.

Still look down at my belly and can’t believe there’s a baby in there although I feel huge! X

acaciabluebell · 04/08/2023 09:41

Hey girls! I am 30 weeks which feels so surreal 😍 @Laura23FE it's definitely starting to feel very real, I've ordered many of the big purchases now and am setting up the nursery too. I'm starting mat leave around 37 weeks so not long left as I'm also using quite a bit of annual leave before then!

@Feelslikeforever22 Bless you, I also had a second bleed at 28 weeks, another couple of days in the hospital, but it was quite light so not as scary as yours sounded! My scan showed my placenta was still low. I have another one at 32 weeks to recheck on it. Is yours still the same?

acaciabluebell · 04/08/2023 09:43

Forgot to mention I also got diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, very very sad, strict diet from now till birth 😭

Feelslikeforever22 · 04/08/2023 11:17

@acaciabluebell sorry about your GD. It’s so annoying to have one more thing to worry about on top of everything else but hopefully it can be controlled well with diet.
I’m glad your second bleed wasn’t too bad. They said my placenta is in exactly the same position as before. I have another scan at 34 weeks but I have no expectation that it will have moved enough to change anything.

We just had an appointment at John Lewis to pick out a pram and take advantage of the discount they offer. We’ll pick up the car seat and get it fitted at Halfords (and use a friends employee discount) at the end of the month, I’ll have a little baby shower, my last day at work and then just waiting for baby! I just hope he stays in long enough to get that far!

Feelslikeforever22 · 04/08/2023 11:21

@Laur0606 let us know how the yoga class goes.
I’ve been spending a lot of time on the peanut app to try and connect with mums more local to me. I don’t think any meet ups will happen though until people are in mat leave.

Laur0606 · 14/08/2023 19:11

@Feelslikeforever22 yoga class was great, lots of women at the same stage as me. The instructor added us all to a WhatsApp group but there’s been no chatting yet on it!

Saw the consultant today and got given a date for section - Monday 16th October!! All being well, I will be 39+2.

I developed obstetric cholestasis in my first pregnancy and was induced at 37 weeks, they said if it happens this time then the date will be moved forward but il go straight for section (no induction).

Hoping I can get to the 39 week date as my daughter needed a little support for breathing and ended up in special care last time so hoping those extra weeks will help avoid that happening again. Would also mean my husband would be home for 3 weeks with us (2 paternity and then annual leave for October half term to help out with our 4 year old). Just hoping this baby understands the plan haha

How is everyone doing??

Laura23FE · 14/08/2023 21:04

@Laur0606 ahhh must be so nice to have an official date 🤩 we have a scan on Thursday (will be 32 weeks on Friday) and seeing a birthing specialist so hopefully get a date for c section soon too
feet have swelled up over the past few days so I have bought some compression socks to hopefully help them 😂 feeling a bit more tired than I have been feeling but I guess that’s all normal haha

Feelslikeforever22 · 14/08/2023 21:47

@Laur0606 that sounds nice! Hopefully you’ll get some lovely mum friends from it.

Great that you have a date already booked in too! It’s nice to have that mental preparation.
Hopefully it all works out like you want and your husband’s time off will line up!

Feelslikeforever22 · 14/08/2023 21:58

I’ve had another dramatic 24hrs. Had my 3rd bleed last night but it had all but stopped by the time I got to the hospital.

I was admitted and all was well until 7am and this morning where I had my 4th bleed. Pretty uncontrolled for a good 10 mins and there was a big common with about 10 people trying to do things and potentially prep me for surgery.

They took me to the delivery suite and things slowed down again with nothing happening for a good 5 hours. They said they were happy for me to go back on the ward and finally be able to eat something. Midwife told me I could go for a walk and get fresh air and just come back if anything changed. Just as she was doing the handover and I was considering getting dressed, I started bleeding again. They had said if I lost over 500mls in 24hrs, they’d probably go ahead with the section unless I objected.

Long story short, my baby boy was born today! Exactly 2 months before due date at 31 weeks! He’s so gorgeous! In nicu but breathing unassisted and doing really well at 3lbs 6.

What a day! I’m still very shocked. Can’t believe I have a baby!

Lucy5yearsttc · 14/08/2023 22:21

@Feelslikeforever22 im sorry you went through that but how amazing to have your baby boy here!! Congratulations and enjoy this special time xx

runningismytherapy · 14/08/2023 23:20

@Feelslikeforever22 congratulations!!!! So glad he’s here and doing well. Hope you are too. xxx

Aranciata · 15/08/2023 00:41

I don't know why I looked at the Pregnancy board today but I remembered that feeling of being pregnant after IVF and opened your thread... I'll butt out again but wanted to say two things.

@Feelslikeforever22 congratulations, hope your little one and you are doing well 💐.

To those of you worrying about not having the nursery done yet, really don't stress about it, I wanted it to be just right but had so much work to do before the baby arrived and couldn't decide what theme was best and ordered lots of wall decals and pictures, some never used. She's over a year old and has never slept in there yet 😂

Laura23FE · 15/08/2023 06:54

@Feelslikeforever22 oh my gosh what a stressful 24 hours but soooo glad to hear he is here and doing well 🥰 how are you feeling ? Xx

Dbop100 · 15/08/2023 10:55

@Feelslikeforever22 oh wow congratulations! So glad to hear he's doing well 💕 what a rollercoaster. Hope you're doing ok and getting lots of love and support. I'm 31 weeks now and it's wild to think she could be here in my arms now too! Xxx

@Laur0606 we are also booked in to have our little girl via c-section on Mon 16th Oct at exactly 40 weeks. Feels good to have a plan in place.

Hope everyone's doing ok. We had a hypnobirthing session with our NCT group and they were talking about affirmations and how your body is capable etc and I realised I have some residual doubts about my body being capable after needing IVF and Donor Eggs that I need to work through x

Laur0606 · 15/08/2023 21:17

Omg @Feelslikeforever22 congratulations on having your beautiful boy! Have you named him yet?

Sending you lots of love and strength for the NICU journey. My daughter only had a short stay there but I did find it incredibly traumatic. It can be so tough but every milestone is huge. Breathing unassisted at 31 weeks is amazing, he must be such a little fighter! Look after yourself in these next few weeks and enjoy watching your precious baby get stronger everyday ❤️

@Dbop100 awww how lovely we are section twins! Will this be your first section? Hope you can work through the doubts you have creeping in, if anything we should be proud of everything we have achieved and the strength we have shown in the process of getting pregnant! 👏🏻

Feelslikeforever22 · 16/08/2023 04:36

Thank you everyone! It’s still very difficult to wrap my head around. I keep looking at my partner and saying “I can’t believe we have a baby!” 😭
Yesterday after cuddles and skin to skin we confirmed that his name is Finn! I’m so in love and look forward to learning everything about him. He already is so full of personality and wants to be involved in everything, always looking around and so alert. Also at barely 24hrs old he was lifting his head! This boy seems as impatient as me to be getting on with life!
Managed to express a couple of syringes of colostrum which I was pleasantly surprised about and might try and see if he latches today.

I was discharged last night which feels so wild. Obviously not how we imagined leaving the hospital but in the circumstances it’s very much best case scenario. I get to recover and rest knowing my baby is doing great and being so well looked after. We’ve been so lucky that so far he is very low dependency so I don’t find him being in NICU traumatic at all. They expect him to graduate to SCBU in a couple of weeks and said earliest they’d look to release him is at 36 weeks adjusted. So we have 5 weeks to mentally prepare, get the final big items and actually buy and order the car seat and pram. Everything else we have from our baby registry. My baby shower was supposed to be in 10 days and I was going to do a maternity shoot today 😂! But I’d gladly sacrifice these moments for the ones with my earth side son!

Good luck to all of you having a c-section. Even though I knew I’d be having one due to my placenta previa, this one turned out to be an emergency and was slightly chaotic with my bleeding and trying to get the spinal in my apparently wiggly spine but it was a really positive experience and I hope yours are too!
I wasn’t in any pain and I’d been laying down for what felt like 5 minutes, asked my partner if they’d cut me open already and he said oh yeah, and then I was hearing the doctors greet my baby and hearing him cry!

I look forward to hearing about the progress of your pregnancies and will try to remember to update you about how Finn is getting on! x

acaciabluebell · 25/08/2023 14:16

Oh wow I wanted to check up on this group and just seen your amazing news @Feelslikeforever22 so happy for you that you finally have your lovely little boy and he is doing well - I hope hes going from strength to strength!

How is everyone else doing? I'm 33 weeks today, had my growth scan last week and baby was estimated to be 4lb 14oz so she's on the bigger side. Baby is currently engaged in my pelvis so they couldn't see the placenta in this scan so unsure if its still low lying or has moved. Also met with consultant and discussed probable induction (if not a section) at 38-39 weeks due to gestational diabetes so may be end of September - first week of October! Only 5-6 weeks away now which is mind blowing 🤯

Laura23FE · 08/09/2023 03:27

Wow this heatwave this week is not fun at all 😂🥵 how is everybody coping ?
I can’t believe how close we are now to October 😬 so excited but so nervous haha

Feelslikeforever22 · 08/09/2023 07:06

Hi ladies! Finn was discharged from hospital this week, 3 weeks and 1 day after birth!
I’d spent 3 days staying in a transitional SCBU room with the baby so I could be there for all of his feeds. He started properly breastfeeding on Friday but was still getting topped up on his feeding tube. During their rounds on Monday the consultant asked me if I had any questions and what were my expectations and I said I’d like to be home by the end of the week and he said how about tomorrow!
The tube came out that day and we’ve been exclusively breastfeeding since. Finn is maintaining his weight and is almost 4.5lbs now.

It feels very surreal to be home as a family now but absolutely incredible. Definitely didn’t think I’d have to be dealing with this extreme heat with the baby though. Bring on autumn!
Hope you all are finding ways to stay cool and aren’t too uncomfortable. Not long now until you meet your little ones!
