Pregnant after IVF

Is anyone out there pregnant after IVF? I'm on an IVF thread but don't want to keep posting about being pregnant when women there are still going through treatment and also getting BFNs.

I had my first round of IVF in November and we got 2 embryos. My first fresh transfer failed and I'm now 5+2 after our frozen transfer.

I'm feeling a bit wobbly today because my symptoms (cramping and super sore boobs) seem to have disappeared, even though I got 3+ on a digital test yesterday.

Just fancy talking to other women who are pregnant after treatment and can relate to all the emotion and worries.

@Laura23FE @Dbop100 Brilliant news! Congratulations! It’s so exciting!

@ivf2022 I’m sorry you’re worried. I had a day last week where I felt like my old self and was convinced I was no longer pregnant.
I pretty sure it’s normal for symptoms to come and go so try not to read too much into it. The nausea and fatigue may be back tomorrow. It could also just be your body coping better with being pregnant. Hormones are all over the place at the moment. Give it a few days and see how you feel then.

Lucy5yearsttc · 27/02/2023 17:07

@ivf2022 my symptoms have been coming and going and it worries me too. I am 10w2d today and have my nhs dating scan a week today. I’m just hoping it’s all normal and our bodies just getting used to hormones. I guess we can’t feel sick 24/7 can we

Laur0606 · 27/02/2023 17:41

Great news that all the scans went well today. Congratulations @Laura23FE @Feelslikeforever22 and @Dbop100.

My scan isn’t till the 9th March when il be 7 weeks and 3 days… it feels like a lifetime away! I’m wishing the days to go quicker xx

runningismytherapy · 27/02/2023 19:13

So much good news on here today :)

my symptoms seem to come and go too, it’s scary but also a bit of a relief sometimes 😅

@Dbop100 we’re doing NIPT scan and blood test. Personal preference entirely, but bar some MFI our infertility falls into the unexplained camp so I guess I’m a bit worried about chromosomal anomalies :) xx

MsSandyToes · 27/02/2023 19:55

Yay for all of the positive news and beautiful heartbeats today! ❤️

@Lucy5yearsttc and @runningismytherapy my symptoms come and go too. I believe its normal but also stress about it. 🙃

Lucy5yearsttc · 27/02/2023 20:34

@MsSandyToes i find the wait between scans torture!

Laura23FE · 27/02/2023 21:26

Thanks ladies … not sure I can wait 5 weeks for the 12 weeks scan so I think I’m going to book a private one at about 10 weeks.

also does anybody know how long we take the pessaries for ? I’m also on estradot patches and unsure how long I am supposed to take them for aswell, tried calling my clinic this afternoon but it’s impossible to get through to them sometimes … sooo annoying

runningismytherapy · 27/02/2023 21:50

@Laura23FE i think pessaries depends on clinic. Mine was 8 weeks for fresh transfer and 10 for frozen. But others are more or less. I stopped cold turkey (as instructed) and had terrible headaches / migraines and felt really rough. I’ve seen other clinics wean people off, and if I had that opportunity I would take it!! xx

Laura23FE · 28/02/2023 07:58

@runningismytherapy oh gosh that sounds horrible ! I will definitely ask if I can be weaned off them (once I finally get through to the clinic :/)

Dbop100 · 28/02/2023 08:26

@Laura23FE my clinic said yesterday that they start to wean the pessaries and oestrogen at 12 weeks. I did a frozen transfer though so maybe that's why I need a bit longer?

I'm thinking I might also do a private scan at 9/10 weeks just for reassurance as 5 weeks feels like such a long time. Will probably just go to a Window to the Womb which I think is £60, another scan at my clinic is £240

Purrrrr · 28/02/2023 09:23

@Laura23FE My clinic have advised me to take my pessaries and progynova as normal until 10 weeks, then start weaning off to finish by 12 weeks. I’ll be glad to see the back of them 😂

Feelslikeforever22 · 28/02/2023 10:15

My clinic haven’t said anything about weaning off pessaries. They just said continue until 12 weeks. Mine was a fresh transfer.

Laura23FE · 28/02/2023 13:50

@Dbop100 yes I'm a frozen transfer too, I have meds to take me to 10 weeks for my oestrogen and 11 weeks for my pessaries and the nurse said to give a call when i'm near running out and they will prescribe me more as need to take them till 12 weeks, I have been looking at private companies near me for a scan and they average at around £75 so I am definitely going to book in in a couple of weeks, cant wait to see him/her again

@Feelslikeforever22 mine didn't mention weaning off either but I am definitely going to ask when I get more meds in a couple of weeks time

@Purrrrr haha I know! can't bloody wait till 12 weeks! feels like a life time away haha

Lucy5yearsttc · 02/03/2023 10:47

How’s everyone getting on? Find time is dragging in this first trimester!

ivf2022 · 02/03/2023 12:17

@Lucy5yearsttc I agree it's definitely dragging. I'm 8+5 and feel like I've been pregnant for ages! Just counting down the days til the 12 week scan.

I've been told to stop all medication at 10 weeks but I have some extra so I'm considering weaning myself off. Not sure how to do it though! I take 4 oestrogen tablets and 3 pessaries a day- do I just go down to 3 tablets and 2 pessaries for a few days?
Thanks in advance for the advice!

Lucy5yearsttc · 02/03/2023 12:27

@ivf2022 totally with you. I’ve got my scan Monday and I just can’t focus on anything else!
my clinic suggested I start weaning from 10 weeks but I was scared so they’ve given me enough to 12 weeks. She did say to stop the estrogen until I run out and then reduce the pessaries down from 2 one day, 1 the next and then 2 again. So alternate between 1 and 2. But I’d speak to them and ask. Or could you ask your GP?x

ali2021 · 02/03/2023 13:34

@MsSandyToes, hope that your scan went well yesterday...I was thinking of you!

Scarlett868 · 02/03/2023 17:48

@Lucy5yearsttc I felt like in the first trimester I'm 32 weeks tomorrow and now the time is flying!!!
Feeling so unprepared lol. I've spent most of the pregnancy in a bit of disbelief haha

Lucy5yearsttc · 02/03/2023 18:25

@Scarlett868 wow, congrats! Exciting but can imagine panic setting in for me at that stage 😃

MsSandyToes · 02/03/2023 20:13

@ali2021 my scan went well thank you. Measuring one day behind but the nurse said that's fine and we saw the heartbeat flickering. It made me cry because although I hoped it was OK I hadn't truly believed it until seeing the heartbeat. How are you getting on?

@ivf2022 my clinic have got me on 2 pessaries a day until 12 weeks and then one a day for the last week. I've heard that stopping them abruptly can cause headaches etc. maybe ask your clinic but I think after reading some of these forums and others experiences I would have tried to ween off them even if it hadn't been advised by the clinic.

Scarlett868 · 03/03/2023 08:18

@Lucy5yearsttc thank you so much! Got my 32 week growth scan today. Thats the perk of an ivf pregnancy is all the extra scans and opportunities to see the baby.

@ivf2022 I know everyone is different but just as a little reassurance, I had no side effects from stopping progesterone at 12 weeks and I didn't wean myself off them. Hoping you have it straightforward :)

MsSandyToes · 03/03/2023 08:32

@Scarlett868 how exciting! Good luck with the scan! Let us know how you get on :-)

Lucy5yearsttc · 03/03/2023 11:37

@Scarlett868 hope your scan goes well!x

acaciabluebell · 03/03/2023 12:40

Update from me, I ended up spotting for 2 full weeks and then had another reddish bleed a couple days ago. I had a scan at the EPU yesterday and everything is okay, thank god. They can't find a cause for the bleeding and spotting. It's stopped now and I'm really hoping it doesn't come back. It's so stressful seeing it every single time I wipe in the toilet!

Scarlett868 · 03/03/2023 16:27

@MsSandyToes @Lucy5yearsttc
Thanks ladies! Scan went well. Baby is estimated to weigh around 4lb 7 atm!!

Also saw consultant today. Another thing we have with an ivf pregnancy is consultant appointments as well as midwifes.

She was happy with everything and I will be getting induced at 39 weeks.

I didnt know this going in to the pregnancy but they don't like ivf ladies to go over 39 weeks as they think the placenta in ivf doesn't work as well as in a natural pregnancy.

Just feeling so grateful to get to experience a pregnancy and all that comes with it :)
