Pregnant after IVF

countrypunk · 09/02/2023 14:45

Is anyone out there pregnant after IVF? I'm on an IVF thread but don't want to keep posting about being pregnant when women there are still going through treatment and also getting BFNs.

I had my first round of IVF in November and we got 2 embryos. My first fresh transfer failed and I'm now 5+2 after our frozen transfer.

I'm feeling a bit wobbly today because my symptoms (cramping and super sore boobs) seem to have disappeared, even though I got 3+ on a digital test yesterday.

Just fancy talking to other women who are pregnant after treatment and can relate to all the emotion and worries.

Hello everyone x
Today I am 6w4d pregnant.
This is our second FET transfer, our first in August unfortunately ended up in a loss
I had leave from work on week of the transfer in January and since then I haven't been able to go back to work due to severe nausea and vomiting, my GP has signed me off till 5/3 - I suffer from hyperemesis gravidarum - just today I have vomited 5 times even if I take regular anti emetics.
I have tried literally any trick and any remedy but my stomach doesn't want to cooperate 🙉
But I am not complaining, this baby is my precious rainbow 🌈 baby and I will give everything to hold it in my arms 🦋

I wish good luck to all of you with your pregnancies ♥️🌼🌹

Dbop100 · 15/02/2023 06:57

Morning all, I woke up early today (5+2) and went to the loo and realised I am spotting. I've heard this can happen but it's made me a little worried. That coupled with the cramping I had from Friday, although it's eased off the last couple of days. My uterus just feels tense now if that makes sense?

Luckily I had another HcG test yesterday afternoon so I'm going to get those results in a few hours anyway. Hoping they are reassuring 🤞😟

runningismytherapy · 15/02/2023 09:25

@AnnaPr1992 that sounds awful! You poor thing. Hope you can find some relief with something, even if short lived.

@Dbop100 I've also heard this can happen, and whilst the stats are something like 25% that doesn't make it any less worrying. Are you still on progesterone?
Fingers crossed for those HCG results. x

Dbop100 · 15/02/2023 09:29

Thanks @runningismytherapy I've just had the call and my Hcg results are good at 2703, Such a relief. They've reassured me that the spotting is normal and can happen throughout the whole 1st trimester. They said if it increases then I need to go to A&E.

Obviously not ideal when you're already anxious! Just trying to talk myself off the edge but it's a challenge! My 7 week scan cannot come fast enough!x

countrypunk · 15/02/2023 14:05

@Dbop100 Your HCG levels sound great for 5+2 😀 Hope you feel reassured. I don't know about you, but as soon as I feel better about one thing, I start worrying about something else. I think we just need to accept that having been through IVF, we're probably all going to worry throughout our pregnancies but that the chances are we'll all be fine and will end up with healthy babies in our arms.

Speaking of worrying... I've been getting what feel like ovulation type cramps in my left side. They're not very strong but they're noticeable and they've thrown me a bit. Any idea what that could be?

@AnnaPr1992 Oops just noticed your post Anna! I'm sorry you're still so sick. I hope it stops very very soon x

Dr Google is saying my pain on one side could be the corpus luteum. Huh.

Hi ladies!

Hope you’re all ok? Just thought I’d update you all, we had our 7+6 scan yesterday. It was so so amazing and emotional. I didn’t breath at all until I heard the words “and here’s your baby and a strong beautiful heartbeat” ❤️ it was the perfect valentines gift.

I just wanted to add, if anyones stresssing over symptoms or lack of - please try not to worry. I had super horrendous sore boobs that disappeared (they were still bigger but not sore!) my sickness comes and goes (and it’s really not that bad!!) and I am currently having headaches. But nothing as bad as I had anticipated and everything was ok. I wish I could have stopped myself Googling all the symptoms or lack of a few weeks ago lol!

Here’s hoping for another healthy 4 weeks ✨ our clinic also advised we could stop progesterone (cyclogest) today but I called them and said that makes me way too anxious. And they’ve given me enough for 12 weeks. So, in case anyone is also in that situ - don’t be afraid to ask xx

Laur0606 · 15/02/2023 15:23

Hi all, I’ve followed you over from the Jan group. I’m only 4 +2 so have a super long way to go. My official test day isn’t until Friday but I tested yesterday and got the strongest line within seconds 😍

I have a daughter who will be 4 this summer and I’ve had 2 chemical pregnancies since her. This was the strongest line we’ve had so it was a huge relief. I was suspicious that I was pregnant as I had hyperemesis with my daughter and I’ve been feeling so nauseous since Monday.

I was quite poorly with my daughter losing a lot of weight and needing admission for fluids. I ended up on cyclizine and ondansetron until about 16 weeks. I have a feeling this pregnancy will go the same way so feel your pain @AnnaPr1992. I am due to go back to work next week after being off since egg collection.

Hope you are all doing well and soaking up every second even if we all feel terrified. I am just hoping everything will go well this time.

countrypunk · 15/02/2023 15:24

@Izzie94x That's amazing. Thank you so much for sharing, and congratulations ♥️

Dbop100 · 15/02/2023 15:59

@countrypunk oh I had no idea the CL could be in play after IVF? Did you do a natural cycle, fresh or frozen cycle? I was wondering if it might just be your uterus stretching or possibly even a bit of constipation? I've defo had that from the progesterone and had to start taking Fybogel daily 🙃

Thanks for the support everyone, the spotting as died down a bit now. I'm just gonna be fretting until I see that heartbeat.

@Izzie94x congrats on your scan! 💕

countrypunk · 15/02/2023 16:07

@Dbop100 I did a natural FET cycle, so I ovulated before they transferred the embryo. I've emailed my clinic (again - they must eyeroll hard when they see another email pop up from me) so will share what they say!

Hello @Laur0606 and congratulations again 💕 I hope your sickness isn't too bad this time round.

I'm trying to soak it all up but it's been 2 weeks since my positive test and it just doesn't feel real and like it's actually going to happen! 7 week scan next week. Part of me just doesn't believe there's anything in there!

@runningismytherapy @countrypunk @Laur0606 thank you so much for your sweet messages ♥️ thank God in the evening I find a bit of relief so at least I can have one meal 🥹

@Dbop100 my lovely I wanted to tell you to not worry at all about the bleeding. On week 5 I had spotting as well on both my pregnancies and they say is absolutely normal might be implantation bleeding.
Week 5 and 2 days I had dark brown spotting for a few hours and today iam 7 weeks and I woke up in a lot of blood coming out when I wiped and is been all day I have been spotting very dark brown, I had a scan on Sunday and the sonografer told me I have a small sub chorionic haematoma which can happen in early pregnancy and they say doesn't affect the baby 😖 I totally understand your fear coz I go through the same, tomorrow I have another scan at the EPU to assess me and fingers crossed baby is still fine 🥺
Pfff so worrying times 🙏🙏🙏

Dbop100 · 15/02/2023 18:57

Aww thanks @AnnaPr1992 and yes keeping everything crossed for your scan tomorrow xxx hope your nausea improves soon too! X

BH2023 · 16/02/2023 10:51

Hello, hope you don’t mind another late joiner to this group! So pleased to have found this thread as I’m currently 4+1 and having no symptoms which is making me really anxious about it being chemical. TTC for two years and I’m feeling really grateful as this was our first attempt with IVF, just really hoping it sticks 🙏🏻 I had sore boobs from just after egg collection which disappeared a week ago. The only thing I have noticed is my face is really soft - not sure if soft skin can be a symptom so early on 😂 x

Laur0606 · 16/02/2023 13:33

Hope everything’s gone ok today @AnnaPr1992

Welcome @BH2023. I’ve had 2 chemical pregnancies and if it helps both times I had the lightest lines that continued to fade, you had to really squint to see them so I would say if you can see a line, you will be all fine. I think most people don’t get many symptoms til 6 weeks or so. I know my sister in laws had no symptoms and went on to have healthy babies!

AnnaPr1992 · 16/02/2023 14:54

@Laur0606 thank you so much for remembering my scan for today x
I just came back from the early pregnancy unit and they told me that they couldn't see the haematoma anymore 🙏🙏🙏 i feel so much relief guys I couldn't breathe till I heard those words!!!

What I got from this is that I shouldn't overreact and over panic for everything x every pregnancy and every woman is sooo different x Mother Nature knows 🌻

BH2023 · 16/02/2023 15:19

Thanks so much @Laur0606 that’s reassuring to hear. Sorry to hear you had two chemicals, what a journey for you. My line has been getting darker since 10 days after my 3 day transfer so hopefully it continues to progress as it should without the bad symptoms! Xx

Dbop100 · 16/02/2023 15:37

@AnnaPr1992 wonderful news so relieved for you! Xx

Hi @BH2023 welcome, if it helps I was also really worried about a chemical so asked for 3 hcg blood tests every 2 days so that I knew the numbers were doubling. I probably seemed very extra and OTT to the clinic but I needed to do it for my mental health after a previous chemical. The first couple of weeks are emotionally very hard just take it one day at a time. Xx

Feelslikeforever22 · 16/02/2023 17:21

Hi ladies, I followed from the other chats. Thanks @countrypunk for starting it.

Like some of you have mentioned, a specific group for pregnancy after IVF feels more comfortable. Obviously, those who conceived naturally have their anxieties and experiences of loss too but they can’t relate to what it took to get here.

I’m 5+5 after a fresh transfer on my second cycle of IVF/ICSI. Everything about this cycle just seemed so much more positive so I’m very hopeful and we have 4 decent embryos in the freezer too.

I got a 3+ on a digital today so I’m done with testing and just hoping the next 10 days fly by for my early scan.
I’ve never been so aware of time in my life!

I have vague symptoms that come and go which I’m not too worried about. I’ve had frequent urination, sore boobs, insomnia and cramping. The last few days I’ve felt a bit nauseous but it just feels like travel sickness or hunger and it lessens as soon as I eat. And yeah, just very hungry!

Very excited to be on this journey with all of you!

BH2023 · 17/02/2023 09:36

@Dbop100 Gosh it really is so hard! I think if I had any symptoms I’d feel more secure, but no symptoms and now my line seems to not be getting darker 😕 I’m 4+2 and the digi Clearblue only says 1-2 weeks. Just have to take it one day at a time as you suggest - I’ll also ask about the blood tests, thank you.

welcome @Feelslikeforever22 and congrats on your 3+! That’s great. You must feel relieved 😊

countrypunk · 17/02/2023 10:01

Hello and congratulations to @BH2023 and @Feelslikeforever22 💕

Don't worry about those Clear Blue weeks indicator tests. They're a really blunt tool and women's HCG levels vary wildly. I stopped testing 9 days ago and feel loads better for it. I've got my first scan on Tuesday and I feel like I'm gonna be amazed if they see anything in there!

Totally agree with you @Feelslikeforever22 about needing an IVF-specific pregnancy group. It feels like a safe warm space where we all understand each other.

I have vague symptoms that come and go too. My boobs seem to be really sore at the end of the day when I take my bra off, but otherwise fine. They're definitely bigger - I'm quite a small person but have massive norks and I'm concerned about how ridiculously big they're going to get. By 6 months I'll be toppling over when I stand up if they carry on at this rate. I'll leave you with that image.

Love to all!

Congratulations @BH2023 and @Feelslikeforever22

Oh bless you @countrypunk I feel your pain! I had breast augmentation when I was younger and they look like when I first had them done at the moment 😂 Not too long now until your scan!

I had my 7 week scan at my clinic yesterday. Saw and heard the little heartbeat, which was lovely. We’ve been discharged now so I’ve called my GP this morning to ask to be referred to the midwife, which is absolutely terrifying!

Dbop100 · 17/02/2023 17:40

@Purrrrr congrats on the positive scan! 💕 Must have been such a relief. Do you think you'll have any more private scans between now and the NHS one at 12weeks?

countrypunk · 17/02/2023 20:50

@Purrrrr Glad I'm not the only one! I feel silly worrying about it because comically massive boobs is a small price to pay for a baby. But still 🍈🍈

Can I ask everyone kind of a gross question? I've noticed more discharge over the past few days, and it's got a definite yellowish tinge. I'm a bit worried cos Google says anything yellow could be a sign of an infection. I have no other infection symptoms though. Does anyone else have this? I'm still doing progesterone pessaries but in the back door.

OP posts:
countrypunk · 17/02/2023 20:54

Oops @Purrrrr I didn't reply to your scan update! Sorry, I'm being very self-absorbed just now 😆

CONGRATULATIONS! Were you nervous going in? Bet it feels really real now that you're being discharged to your GP. I don't know how long you did IVF for but I imagine it's mixed feelings when the clinic signs you off. Very very exciting though. Congratulations again. Keep us posted please! Xx
