Pregnant after IVF

Is anyone out there pregnant after IVF? I'm on an IVF thread but don't want to keep posting about being pregnant when women there are still going through treatment and also getting BFNs.

I had my first round of IVF in November and we got 2 embryos. My first fresh transfer failed and I'm now 5+2 after our frozen transfer.

I'm feeling a bit wobbly today because my symptoms (cramping and super sore boobs) seem to have disappeared, even though I got 3+ on a digital test yesterday.

Just fancy talking to other women who are pregnant after treatment and can relate to all the emotion and worries.

@bringmesunshine99 I avoided baths for a few weeks after transfer. But I was really missing a long bath so started having them again daily from about 7 weeks, just not too hot. Im now 19 weeks and baby is healthy so the baths can't have done much harm!

Congratulations, that's lovely news! Thank you, panicking about everything so that's good to hear! So nervous for my scan on Wednesday. Yikes. x

@bringmesunshine99 i am a fellow bath lover so started having shallow baths at around 8 weeks and have been having normal baths now since about 10 weeks (I bought a baby Bath thermometer though to make sure I’m not making them too hot and I usually only stay in for about 15 minutes now .. usually I can spend hours in a boiling hot bath 😂😂) 18 weeks pregnant and got our 20 week scan on the 26th may .. we still have those pre scan nerves 😭

bringmesunshine99 · 16/05/2023 16:18

Hi all,

I am 6w 6d today and just been for my first scan. Everything was okay and we saw a heartbeat flicker and measurement was ok too. So grateful!

He said I had en enlarged left ovary with multiple cysts though which can be common after IVF... has anyone else had this? Do I need to do anything? Can someone stop me panicking please I asked him if I needed to do anything but he didn't really answer, just said they will check on my next scan.

Thank you! x

Laura23FE · 26/05/2023 18:11

just had our 20 week scan, baby looks great and he was very active haha
on my notes it says 'above 10th centile' ...what does this mean ?

Dbop100 · 27/05/2023 08:21

@Laura23FE congrats! I'm so looking forward to having our 20 week scan done and have that reassurance all is well. I think the 10th centile relates to size and maybe means they're a little smaller than some others but I wouldn't worry about this at 20weeks they have lots of time to grow still xx

Feelslikeforever22 · 27/05/2023 11:58

@Laura23FE I had my 20 week scan yesterday too! The appointment was about 45 mins long and towards the end they had me jumping up and down to get him to flip so they could see his kidneys. Everything looks good with him and he apparently has longer than average legs.
My favourite thing was to see the soles of his feet. For some reason the idea of those feet one day making footprints just made it all so real.

Only area of concern for me is my placenta being low and blocking baby’s exit. So my chart has been marked with placenta previa, I’ve been referred to the fetal medicine unit and have an extra scan booked for 34 weeks. If nothing has changed by then, a c section will be scheduled.

runningismytherapy · 27/05/2023 20:58

Above 10th centile means normal and no need for worry :)

Our little Pip is currently below 10th but not too low so just gets some extra scans.

Below 5th centile is then more of a worry and they look at reasons why.

Laura23FE · 28/05/2023 09:03

Ohh thank you ladies !
@Feelslikeforever22 I didn’t realise the scan would be so in depth, was near to hear he was healthy 🥰 I think they have told me my placenta is at the back, I find it crazy that it is different for everybody haha pregnancy still blows my mind 😂

they asked me if I’d had a sugary lunch as he was very active 😂 I’d only had a salad and water haha

@Dbop100 when is your scan ? I was so nervous but excited at the same time 😭

@runningismytherapy awww little pip 🥰 it’s good they do extra scans so can keep an eye on them 💖

acaciabluebell · 30/05/2023 18:49

Hello lovely ladies, so pleased to hear that your scans have gone well 😊 We had our anatomy scan today, took well over an hour (!) and baby was measuring big with very long legs! (my husband is 6'5 haha). I was told I have a low lying placenta which needs to be rechecked at 32 weeks. But everything else went well. We also found out its a little girl!! So excited 😊❤️🧒🏽

Laura23FE · 03/06/2023 09:00

@acaciabluebell awwww amazing news 🥰💖 haha our baby boy also has long legs and big feet apparently 😂 amazing how they can tell isn’t it 😍 we only had our 20 weeks scan last week and I’m itching for another scan already 😭

Feelslikeforever22 · 06/06/2023 08:12

So after being diagnosed with placenta previa at my 20 week scan, I’m now 21+3 and 12 hrs into a 24hr stay at the hospital after experiencing some bleeding yesterday.
The doctors have said this will probably mean that I’ll be a frequent flyer here over the next few months because they expect me to come to the hospital every time I bleed from now on.
This is the first time I’ve bled in this pregnancy and I’m hoping this was a one off but the bleeding started after literally spending 80% of yesterday sat down so it’s completely out of my control.
I feel like I’ve had about 3 weeks of feeling good in this pregnancy without nausea and was finally relaxing and feeling less worried but now it’s over. I’m so sad that I’m just gonna be on edge the rest of the time.

Dbop100 · 06/06/2023 09:44

@Feelslikeforever22 oh I'm sorry to hear that. I hope as you have time to get your head around it it becomes a little less stressful and the bleeds are few and far between. I had a friend who had this but it was missed on the scans, so she went into Labour and luckily had an emergency c-section, but as you know it could have ended badly. At least they know about this now and you'll be kept a close eye on so that you and the baby are safe. I've been asking about this at scans as mine is low lying but could move up, I've been worried about placenta accreta too as I have adenomyosis but my sonographer didn't know how to check for it 😒 x

@acaciabluebell congrats! I could have written your last post, scan on the same day, also having a girl with a 6ft 5 giant! X

acaciabluebell · 06/06/2023 10:44

@Feelslikeforever22 oh I am so sorry, must have been really scary for you. I'm definitely scared of the same thing happening to me. I had bleeding in my first trimester but nothing since 8 weeks. Is your placenta low lying or complete previa? Also have you been advised to avoid anything, like sex etc? I haven't been told anything and not sure if I should be doing anything different?

@Dbop100 haha that is crazy! Congrats 😊

Feelslikeforever22 · 06/06/2023 11:13

@acaciabluebell I have complete placenta previa major and with the positioning and size of my placenta the doctor said it’s unlikely it will move up enough to make a difference. So a c section is 99% on the cards. Which I don’t mind, I just wish I didn’t have this bleed.
I’ve been told no intercourse or anything in the vagina. No strenuous activities of any kind and now because of this bleed, I have to be in a reasonable vicinity of a hospital at all times.
I think with low lying placenta you can still have sex but not too vigorous. If the midwife or doctor hasn’t said to avoid it, I wouldn’t worry. But of course it’s about what feels comfortable for you too.

acaciabluebell · 08/06/2023 14:52

Thanks for explaining @Feelslikeforever22 I hope you've been able to leave hospital and don't experience any further bleeding and have a smooth pregnancy! Sending hugs to you ❤️

Laura23FE · 10/06/2023 06:49

@Feelslikeforever22 oh gosh, sorry to hear this but I’m sure it’s a relief that they know what is going on and can keep an eye on you now :) are you out of hospital now ? I have my fingers crossed you don’t have anymore bleeds 😢

Feelslikeforever22 · 10/06/2023 10:21

@Laura23FE @acaciabluebell Thank you both!
Yes, I was released from the hospital after 24hrs. Felt a bit tender in the lower abdomen the next day but feel totally normal now and baby is still doing his thing being super active, which is a relief.

I carry my blue book with me all the time now and have a mini overnight kit in my bag just in case. And I have a hospital bag prepared for longer stays too.
Still feel quite disappointed that this has cast a shadow over the second half of the pregnancy but I know how lucky we are to even be in this situation. Been distracting ourselves making plans for redecorating the spare room which is fun. But definitely don’t want anything baby specific in there yet.

Laura23FE · 11/06/2023 21:25

@Feelslikeforever22 glad you got out relatively quickly .. it’s much nicer being in your own bed, you sound well prepared incase you need to go back in which can only be a good thing (but hopefully it won’t come to that 🫶🏼) my friends have all spoke about the blue book but all our stuff is online now in Manchester so we have had zero paper work .. I’m old school and love to have everything on paper so a bit gutted about it 😂

we are decorating the spare room next month, can’t wait to get it sorted and finally get furniture in august (due 13th oct) we have a few little outfits that I can’t wait to see in his own wardrobe 😭😭

I am like you though, trying not to get too giddy as we all know anything can happen in pregnant. The movements in the tummy certainly make me feel better when I feel them 🥰 22 weeks now and already wondering if it’s too soon to book in for another private scan after having the 20 week scan 2 weeks ago 🙈

Feelslikeforever22 · 12/06/2023 15:48

@Laura23FE It’s so comforting to feel those movements, isn’t it? It’s my favourite thing about this stage of pregnancy.

It’s an odd phase to be in too, trying to balance getting prepared but still not get too excited. It will be such a relief when we get to hold healthy babies in our arms!

When is your next hospital scan scheduled? It feels like such a long time between them in the second half especially.
One of the upsides of my placenta drama is getting another scan and getting to hear baby’s heartbeat several times over the 24hrs. I have to go in for a 28 week scan and then 34 weeks so I’m going to hold off on the extra private scans for now. I’ve got 6 weeks to wait but the next 3 will be very busy with work so I’m hoping time will fly!

Laura23FE · 12/06/2023 17:06

@Feelslikeforever22 the movements are the best 🤩🤩 I find it crazy there is a little human growing inside me haha
we don’t have any other hospital scans booked in, I wasn’t aware we would get anymore .. we have a consultant appointment on Thursday and then I’m booked in for bloods on the 15th July … should I ask the consultant about wether or not we get more scans ?
I’m not even sure why we are seeing a consultant .. is this because we are ivf ? My hospital is very vague which is annoying.

Feelslikeforever22 · 12/06/2023 17:54

@Laura23FE I think if there are no complications and baby is not too big or small they don’t really have a reason to scan any further. They should just be checking heartbeat. Some friends of mine who had natural conception and no complications got an extra scan in the last few weeks but not sure on the reason. I think there’s a lot of variation between hospitals and counties.
Not sure about the consultant. Could be because of ivf or just protocol at this stage. I had an appointment with the consultant a couple of days after my 20 week scan just to discuss the results of that and basically go over the pregnancy so far.

Laura23FE · 12/06/2023 19:43

@Feelslikeforever22 ahhh yes it must be the same, I have googled the doctor it is with and she was one of doctors we saw on our IVF journey
My friend just gave birth and she was having scans every 2 weeks at the hospital towards the end of the pregnancy

I would be interested to know what scans everybody else has, especially after 20 weeks 😊

Scarlett868 · 13/06/2023 16:05

@Laura23FE I had 28, 32 and 36 week scans although you can't see much at 36 weeks haha!

I'm not sure what my risk factors were as to why I got all the extra growth scans.

How are you all doing? My little one is 7 weeks tomo and honestly can't belive how quick this is going? Xx

Laura23FE · 13/06/2023 18:36

@Scarlett868 i will defo ask if I’m due some extra scans when I see the consultant :)

7 weeks !! That’s crazy, how are you both doing ? It feels like a couple of weeks ago that you said you had given birth ! This year really is flying by 😭🥰
