Pregnant after IVF

Is anyone out there pregnant after IVF? I'm on an IVF thread but don't want to keep posting about being pregnant when women there are still going through treatment and also getting BFNs.

I had my first round of IVF in November and we got 2 embryos. My first fresh transfer failed and I'm now 5+2 after our frozen transfer.

I'm feeling a bit wobbly today because my symptoms (cramping and super sore boobs) seem to have disappeared, even though I got 3+ on a digital test yesterday.

Just fancy talking to other women who are pregnant after treatment and can relate to all the emotion and worries.

16 week midwife appt was underwhelming tbh! Very quick and no doppler which I was really hoping for. Been 4 weeks since our last scan now so I'm itching for another one.

unCliche · 28/04/2023 20:51

@Feelslikeforever22 Yes, I can definitely see an upside to having more scans and not having to pay for them privately! I was already thinking I'd go every two weeks but it's about £80 per scan where I am!

I did get my beta levels today. 9dp5dt - 512. With my first pregnancy, my beta was 176 so I'm assuming there's more than one in there but is there more than two???

Maybe you can find the male equivalent to the female names you like if you have a boy?

@Bims2019 I haven't got a scan booked in yet. I need to take a second beta to make sure they're rising appropriately but I'm assuming it'll be around the week of 15th May when I'll be 6 weeks. Hehe team girls 💕

@Scarlett868 Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy!

MsSandyToes · 03/05/2023 08:58

@Scarlett868 huge congratulations! Have are you all getting on? Enjoy every minute. 💙

I went for a private scan on Monday at 16+3 and found out we're having a girl! Very excited! Started to feel little bubbles of movement too. 💖

Feelslikeforever22 · 03/05/2023 12:18

@MsSandyToes Congratulations! I had a scan on Monday too and I’m having a boy! It’s so exciting. It’s made me so impatient to meet him.
Also started noticing little bubbles, at first I thought it was just gas! 😂

MsSandyToes · 03/05/2023 15:06

@Feelslikeforever22 Congratulations to you too! 💙 Aww amazing. I've just started feeling it too - exactly like bubbles! It's so awesome!

Scarlett868 · 03/05/2023 15:45

Thank you so much everyone its more magical than I could have ever imagined! Can't believe he's 1 week today its flown.

@MsSandyToes congratylulayions must be so exiting to now you have a little girl on the way 💓.

We are doing well. Can't believe how good the recovery from the section has been. Discharged less than 24 hours and been out on some lovely walks and even had a picnic in the park today.

So surreal being in the park that we would walk through praying that one day we would have a child to bring with us.

I've never been more tired but also never been so happy. 🥰

Bims2019 · 06/05/2023 21:56

Hi all, hope everyone is doing ok!

Just wondering when/if any of you felt able to have sex after you found out you were pregnant. I'm now 5+3 and we haven't done anything like that since we started IVF this cycle, partly because tbh I haven't had much of an urge to (got to love the pessaries 😂) but also I'm a bit scared of anything going wrong. We were advised not to have sex after the embryo transfer but no time frame was given on the paperwork, and I've not had any bleeding or concerns so far.

Has anyone been in a similar position? Realise I should probably ask the clinic as well but grateful for any experiences!

ivf2022 · 07/05/2023 06:13

@Bims2019 Tbh I didn't fancy it in the first trimester (mixture of feeling very sick and the horrible pessaries 😂). But our clinic told us it was fine to have sex after our positive test.

Bims2019 · 07/05/2023 11:52

Thanks @ivf2022, yeah I'm not really in the mood either at the moment but good to know it's an option 🤣

Hoping4baby21 · 07/05/2023 18:24

@Bims2019 my husband and I have had sex twice the entire time. Ivf has changed my feelings towards my body in so many ways as well as sex turning into something negative.

Dbop100 · 08/05/2023 13:03

We had a private scan today at 17weeks and found out we're having a girl 💕 we're both thrilled. Still can't believe it. We'd have been happy with a boy too but this means I can use my late mums name as her middle name which I always wanted to be able to do. We have 7 nephews and no nieces so this little one is going to be spoiled rotten by the grandparents xxx

ivf2022 · 08/05/2023 16:35

@Dbop100 congratulations, that's great news! Sorry that you lost your mum, how lovely to use her name 💕

Laura23FE · 09/05/2023 13:36

@Dbop100 awww congratulations! gorgeous news 💖our baby boy will be the only boy, there is just something so special about having the first girl/boy of the family 😁

Laur0606 · 11/05/2023 15:06

Hello, hope everybody is progressing along nicely!

I’m almost 17 weeks pregnant and today I had a phone call asking if I’m taking aspirin, when I said no, the midwife said I should be and need to take everyday now until delivery due to it being an IVF pregnancy.

Has anyone else found this? My fertility clinic prescribed progesterone pessaries and lubion injection for 12 weeks but never mentioned aspirin. I’ve also seen a consultant twice and had my booking in appt and 16 week appt where it wasn’t mentioned. I’m a normal weight with no health problems.

Laur0606 · 11/05/2023 15:08

Should probably have mentioned I’ve seen the consultant for under active thyroid which has been in normal range and not caused any issues in pregnancy so far!

Laura23FE · 11/05/2023 16:10

I asked my midwife about this as on the notes from my booking appointment it said 'discuss aspirin' but nobody has actually mentioned aspirin to me and and the midwife said to ignore it and that I don't need it and its for people who are prone to blood clots ? but I have read lots of posts from IVF ladies saying they get told to take aspirin.
I also haven't seen a consultant yet ...should of had an appointment tomorrow but they have rearranged for July! I'm 18 weeks tomorrow, my appointments so far have been my booking appointment, 12 week scan and a routine antenatal appointment which were both in week 13 and community midwife appointment in week 14. Next appointment is 20 week scan on the 26th May.

acaciabluebell · 11/05/2023 17:12

@Laur0606 I am on Aspirin but that's due to having low Papp-A, I've been taking it for a few weeks now. In my trust it's not prescribed just due to having done IVF, you have to have risk factors (BMI, family history of preclampsia etc). It's a preventative measure.

Laur0606 · 11/05/2023 17:52

Change of plan 🙈 midwife rang back and said it was an error and now I don’t need to go to the hospital to pick up the prescription!

bringmesunshine99 · 11/05/2023 20:12

Hello, hope I'm okay to join.

Nervous about posting in these groups and tempting fate but I need to get out of that mindset - have found these threads really helpful/reassuring.

I'm currently 6w+1d with a due date of 3rd Jan according to the app.

I have my first early scan booked for 7w exactly (next Weds) and have the first midwife booking appointment on 2nd June where I'll be 9w+2d (hopefully - all being well).

This was our first IVF round/transfer and have never seen 2 lines on a preg test before (male factor). It still doesn't feel real at all, feel so so nervous each day and so apprehensive about the scan next week, each stage is such a rollercoaster isn't it. I'm sort of waiting for something to go wrong but trying to remain calm and taking one day at a time!

In terms of symptoms, yesterday I felt a bit meh generally, tired (had a nap in the day the last 3 days!) and tender boobs. I did have a weird pulled muscle feeling a few weeks back which seems to have eased now but had a few cramps today on one side.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy pregnancy x

Dbop100 · 11/05/2023 21:05

@Laur0606 I've been prescribed a low dose of aspirin by the consultant at the hospital because I did IVF. No other reason as far as I know.

Congratulations on the positive @bringmesunshine99 the first few weeks are super nerve wracking and can be physically a lot, just take it a day at a time and fingers crossed for your 7 week scan xx

Laura23FE · 12/05/2023 08:35

@bringmesunshine99 congratulations!! I am 18 weeks and still feeling meh every morning, generally feel better by lunch time, the first trimester is such a nerve wracking time, I felt constantly on edge, I only started to feel slightly more relaxed last weekend and that's because my stomach has gone hard and I have a little bump now :) still nervous for our 20 week scan in 2 weeks, I don't think the nerves will ever go xx

Dbop100 · 12/05/2023 13:08

Yes @Laura23FE I'm also feeling super nervous about the 20 week scan now it's approaching. I was fine until this week. I think being part of the infertility community you hear more stories about people who've had things go wrong at a later stage, so maybe that takes away some of the innocence that protects most people. I'll be very happy to have it out of the way! I've been telling myself not to buy anything until then so maybe we'll celebrate by buying her a little something.

Laura23FE · 12/05/2023 13:15

@Dbop100 I definitely think we hear a lot more worst case scenarios in the IVF world 😞I keep saying after 24 weeks I think I will relax more, but I doubt I will, we have bought some little outfits an my friend has just given me a tonne of clothes and pramsuits that her baby didn't wear but we havent bought anything big. Booked a decorator in for July so will start getting stuff properly from then I think (fingers crossed everything is ok by then still) x

Dbop100 · 12/05/2023 14:39

@Laura23FE I know I keep giving myself little milestones to get to and telling myself then I'll feel better. But it's all totally out of our control. I don't know how I'm going to cope with them being allowed to actually one day go out and live their lives without me there to protect them lol! How to avoid being a overprotective parent after IVF?! Literally the one thing I always told myself I didn't want to do 🙈

bringmesunshine99 · 14/05/2023 15:09

Has anyone received any advice re having baths in the first trimester following IVF? I am 6w 4d following my first cycle and soo scared to have a bath I've read about not having them too hot; but I usually soak in them for far too long... is this a no no? Anyone received any advice? Thanks x
