Pregnant after IVF

Is anyone out there pregnant after IVF? I'm on an IVF thread but don't want to keep posting about being pregnant when women there are still going through treatment and also getting BFNs.

I had my first round of IVF in November and we got 2 embryos. My first fresh transfer failed and I'm now 5+2 after our frozen transfer.

I'm feeling a bit wobbly today because my symptoms (cramping and super sore boobs) seem to have disappeared, even though I got 3+ on a digital test yesterday.

Just fancy talking to other women who are pregnant after treatment and can relate to all the emotion and worries.

Hey ladies, it's still super early days for me but I thought I'd cautiously join to say hello.

I transferred two 4AA embryos on the 19th April so I'm currently 7dp5dt. I have my beta on Friday so looking forward to knowing what my numbers are.

I did a transfer around this time last year, but that pregnancy ended in a MMC at 10 weeks. My HPT lines are darker with this pregnancy at 5dp- & 7dp5dt than that one so I'm hoping both embryos stuck.

Hope you're all getting on OK?

22 weeks pregnant with my first baby, a girl! 2 rounds of IVF and 2 FET to get here :)

Feelslikeforever22 · 26/04/2023 21:54

Welcome and congratulations @drcb83 and @unCliche !

@drcb83 how does it feel to be over halfway?

@unCliche those lines look nice and strong. A very promising start. If you don’t mind sharing, what was the reason for the double transfer since clinics in U.K. typically only do one?

@Scarlett868 how are you get on?

@Dbop100 Dbop100 no I havent taken any meds, because I can handle the nausea as that only comes in the morning and its just burst of sickness at night so its not stopping me from doing daily things haha
awwww Crete will be BLISS, we are in Ibiza at the end of May for a wedding for 10 days with all my partners family, i'll be taking myself off to the adult only area though when I need chill time haha 😂

@acaciabluebell acaciabluebell eating definitely helps the nausea doesn't it haha, fingers crossed your sickness stays away, hopefully mine stops soon 😊

@Feelslikeforever22 Feelslikeforever22 awww Tunisia sounds like it was just what you needed, I can't wait to get away and put my feet up in the sunshine haha

@unCliche congratulations!! lovely strong lines ❤definitely keep us updated x

@drcb83 congratulations, over half way now, how exciting 😍are you having your scans privately? we had a private one last week and next nhs scan isnt till 26th May, feels like forever till we can see him again 💙

Bims2019 · 27/04/2023 09:51

Hi all, hope it's ok if I tentatively join 🙂

Found out yesterday that I'm pregnant for the first time after 3 years of trying (unexplained infertility) and our first round of IVF. It all feels quite surreal at the moment, and I don't really know what to do with myself! NHS says due date will be 2nd Jan.

We have an early scan booked in for 3 weeks time, which feels ages away right now! Any tips for staying sane during the wait? 😂

Also, at what point did you contact your GP to get things in motion with midwives etc? The clinic didn't mention this when they called with the results, and I forgot to ask (can never think of questions on the spot lol). Think I'm only 4 weeks so not sure if that is a bit early.

Wishing everyone happy and healthy pregnancies!

I am. £50 a time but I cannot do any of my horse riding so no net difference in cost!

unCliche · 27/04/2023 11:33

Thank you @Feelslikeforever22 & @Laura23FE !

@Feelslikeforever22 I did this IVF cycle in Greece (my husband is Greek) and I think it's just standard for the clinic to transfer two. I managed to get a good number of embryos so it just made sense to transfer two to get through them quicker so that we wouldn't need to pay for multiple trips and transfers. How far are you into your pregnancy?

Hi @Bims2019, I'm not too far behind you. I'm 4 weeks tomorrow with due date 5th Jan (could be earlier with twins). With my previous pregnancy, I self-referred after I had had my viability scan, which was around 7 weeks. Had my first appointment with the midwife at 8 weeks and they took bloods, measured my BMI, asked questions and gave me general information. I miscarried that pregnancy but I will probably wait until my viability scan before I self-refer for this pregnancy - you may be able to find a phone number for self-referral online, just search "midwife self referral [your-location]".

And congrats! Definitely try and enjoy being pregnant. Despite my previous loss, I don't want this pregnancy to be shrouded in fear and anxiety so I'm taking it a day at a time but staying hopeful!

Feelslikeforever22 · 27/04/2023 12:00

@unCliche that’s so exciting! And you had good grade embryos too so fingers crossed these both stick. We’d like 2 kids so twins would’ve been ideal but we have a lovely healthy baby so far with 4 embryos in the freezer so we’ll get there eventually.
I’m almost 16 weeks. Will be doing another private scan next week to find out the sex.

Bims2019 · 27/04/2023 12:11

@unCliche thank you very much, and congrats to you too! So sorry about your previous loss, that must have been so hard but I really admire you wanting to stay hopeful and positive this time. And possible twins as well! That's so exciting. Hope everything goes smoothly for us, I know it's a long way to go but as you say I want to be able to enjoy the pregnancy after all this time.

Thanks also for the advice about self referral, it makes sense to wait until after the scan in a couple of weeks. I'll have a look and see what I can find out online 😊

Laura23FE · 27/04/2023 13:42

@drcb83 haha true, bet it helps you put your mind at rest every 2 weeks as well, its so stressful not knowing what is going on inside there 😭

@Bims2019 congratulations! ❤make sure your going out on regular walks and getting fresh air, that always helps me, I had a bleed at 5 weeks 4 days which was stressful but it made me realise it is much more common to have a bit of bleeding in the first trimester than I ever realised (thankfully everything was ok and there was no explanation for the bleed)

unCliche · 27/04/2023 14:15

@Feelslikeforever22 I definitely had my reservations about transferring two. I'm hoping for a complication free pregnancy, but we'll see! One at a time is definitely safer and with four embryos frozen, you'll have a good shot at a sibling for your little one! Good luck with your scan! Do you have any inkling what sex your baby could be? I'm barely even pregnant but I think I have girls 😂

@Bims2019 There's nothing to say you can't self-refer sooner btw! What day is your scan booked in for?

Feelslikeforever22 · 27/04/2023 15:20

@unCliche yeah i understand your reservations but I think if it had been an option first time round for us (my first round of ivf resulted in an early miscarriage) I would have seriously considered it. This time round we were just thankful to see a viable pregnancy at our 7 week scan. The plus side for you if it’s twins will be extra monitoring and lots more scans which is always nice.

I’ve dreamed twice that it’s a boy but not sure if that’s intuition or the fact that almost everyone is saying they have a feeling it’s a boy. A girl would definitely be easier for us to name but I’m excited to find out and have it feel more like a little person.

Bims2019 · 27/04/2023 17:10

@Laura23FE thank you! 😊 Oh yes that's good advice, I've made myself go out today for a walk even though it's grey and miserable 🤣 Definitely feel better for the fresh air. Glad everything was ok after your bleed, I'm sure there's many of these weird and worrying symptoms to come (not that we need anything else anxiety-inducing after IVF 🙄) but it's good to know how common these things are. How far along are you now?

@unCliche I had a quick look online and found something about referral to the local hospital midwives, not sure that's the right thing? I might call GP next week and see what they say anyway. My scan is on 16th May so a little while to go yet, think I'll be 7+1 then. How about yours?

I also already feel like it's a girl, no reason other than a weird gut feeling 🤣 getting way ahead of myself.

Scarlett868 · 27/04/2023 17:21

Well ladies my beautiful baby boy Rowan was born yesterday in rather dramatic fashion. After and really painful induction which resulted in intense contractions every 2 mins and unble to dialte i had an emergency c section.
Would do it all over again I can't wait for all you girls to finally get your dream.
This is what we are all fighting for xxxx

Lucy5yearsttc · 27/04/2023 18:28

@Scarlett868 amazing! Congrats!! X

Bims2019 · 27/04/2023 20:24

Congratulations @Scarlett868! 😊

Hoping4baby21 · 27/04/2023 21:18

Congrats @Scarlett868

I had my frozen transfer (3rd) in Sept 2022 and I'm due in just over 3 weeks. Pregnancy after IVF is a wild ride. Wishing everyone a smooth rest of pregnancy.

Did anyone else feel super displaced after they gor their positive. It's like being kicked out of your friend group a little.

Feelslikeforever22 · 27/04/2023 21:59

@Scarlett868 Congratulations! So glad baby Rowan arrived safely (even if it was very dreamy! 😆) Well done you!

Laur0606 · 27/04/2023 23:36

Congratulations @Scarlett868! Amazing news that Rowan arrived safely x

Feelslikeforever22 · 28/04/2023 06:27

*dramatic

Purrrrr · 28/04/2023 07:58

Ahh congratulations @Scarlett868 !

I know what you mean @Hoping4baby21 . I feel like a bit of a fraud in the infertility community now I’m pregnant, even though it took years and IVF to get here.

I’m 17+5 today. My bump has popped out (especially when I’m lying in bed 😂) and I can feel baby tapping away in there. So surreal.

Laura23FE · 28/04/2023 09:41

@Bims2019 16 weeks today, still feels surreal and constantly nervous but excited haha you can call your GP btw and they will tell you how to self refer to the midwife ❤people that get pregnant naturally wouldnt have a 7 week scan so i'm sure they call as soon as they do a test

@Scarlett868 awwwww congratulations!!!! enjoy the baby bubble😍hope you are feeling ok after your c section x

@Hoping4baby21 not long to go, what your due date? do you know what you are having?

Hoping4baby21 · 28/04/2023 10:06

@Purrrrr yh it's a weird place to be. Congrats and those early taps are so sweet.

Hoping4baby21 · 28/04/2023 10:10

@Laura23FE no idea what we are having leaving it until the day. I'm due May 20th. Hoping they come earlier than that because I'm so over being pregnant.
