Pregnant after IVF

Is anyone out there pregnant after IVF? I'm on an IVF thread but don't want to keep posting about being pregnant when women there are still going through treatment and also getting BFNs.

I had my first round of IVF in November and we got 2 embryos. My first fresh transfer failed and I'm now 5+2 after our frozen transfer.

I'm feeling a bit wobbly today because my symptoms (cramping and super sore boobs) seem to have disappeared, even though I got 3+ on a digital test yesterday.

Just fancy talking to other women who are pregnant after treatment and can relate to all the emotion and worries.

I think we posted at the same time @Laura23FE!

I will be having a section if all goes well. I had an emergency section on my daughter 4 years ago after a very long failed induction (5 days🙈). I was induced at 37 weeks due to obstetric cholestasis, a liver condition which presents as itching so I think my daughter just wasn’t ready to come out. I definitely won’t be trying a natural delivery again as only got to 2cm with the drip and everything!

acaciabluebell · 23/03/2023 16:41

@Laur0606 is back pain not normal? 😱 Got me worried now. Mine comes and goes though.

Laura23FE · 23/03/2023 16:47

@Laur0606 aww your back pain sounds horrible, I hope they get your sorted at the hospital and that everything is ok, so you have a tilted cervix ? I do and I always get pains in my lower back (thankfully had nothing since my transfer tho)
your last birth sounds eventful 😭😭 I really want a c section .. my midwife said I can give birth however I like, she was soooo nice, the thought of natural child birth makes me feel physically sick and so many of my friends have ended up having emergency c sections I would just rather be booked and and know when it’s happening haha

Laur0606 · 23/03/2023 18:32

@acaciabluebell please don’t worry, mine has been constant for 2 days and I think the midwife could hear the anxiety in my voice. EPU have asked me to bring a urine sample along aswell to rule out infection being the cause and they said you can often get cysts after ivf medication so it could be related to that. Saying all that, I’m not sure I’m going to sleep tonight just want it to be 9am already. I am finding pregnancy after ivf so stressful.

@Laura23FE yes I do, I used to feel period pain in my back. I’m so glad the midwife was understanding when you were discussing birth options. I’ve been told csection recovery is a lot slower but I was up and about walking in no time and my scar healed really well. The downside was my daughter needed to go to special care for breathing support, this is more common post section as the lungs haven’t been squeezed during delivery and I wasn’t able to drive for 6 weeks, I had loads of visitors turning up as they knew I couldn’t go out.

Laura23FE · 23/03/2023 21:43

@Laur0606 yes I have heard mixed reviews with c sections, most of my friends have been fine and like you up and about pretty much straight away, I have seen compression garments that you can wear to help with healing haha so could be worth a try, I can imagine the first 6 weeks you will Want to be getting settled at home so nice to have visitors ❤️
I do have one friend who had an emergency c section and now has an infection which doesn’t sound fun at all bless her

Scan went perfect, baby was flipping about and looked so much more developed than our 7 week scan ❤️ Back pain has also eased. Hope you all have good weekends! xx

Laura23FE · 24/03/2023 20:31

@Laur0606 amazing news 🥰🥰how incredible is it to see them moving ! ❤️

MsSandyToes · 24/03/2023 23:09

@Laur0606 fantastic news! So pleased for you. Hopefully you'll be able to relax and have a nice weekend now.

@acaciabluebell that's so cool that we have the same due date 😊 12 weeks next Friday! 😊

Laura23FE · 28/03/2023 14:15

when do people start getting a baby bump? I'm 11+2 and definitely have a bump already...was expecting to not see anything until around 16 weeks haha

abbaroony · 28/03/2023 14:21

Last time I didn't get a bump until about 18 weeks and it wasn't a proper bump, I just couldn't do my jeans up! I'd say I had a proper bump at about 20 weeks.

Scarlett868 · 28/03/2023 17:49

@Laura23FE I didn't get a proper bump until around 18 weeks. But from 20 weeks on I feel like I get bigger every week!
36 weeks on Friday and I dunno how I can get any bigger 😂😂

Laura23FE · 28/03/2023 19:32

@Scarlett868 eeek not long now ! Haha I’m sure I will look back at the pic I took today and think to myself ‘how did you think that was a bump 😂😂’ we go to Ibiza when I will be 19 weeks so hoping for a nice bump by then and not just look at that fat stage 😂😂

ali2021 · 28/03/2023 21:41

Hi ladies! Hope everyone is well. I had a scan today. I am 11+2 by FET dates...however, I am measuring at 12+1! Doc said not to worry at all, that its a good thing I'm measuring ahead as baby is thriving. However, when I mentioned my dates changing, he said they generally don't change IVF dates, as they know the exact date of conception. I know its a while away, but I'm a little terrified I could end up in a situation of being induced at 2 weeks over with an absolutely enormous baby 😵‍💫 Does anyone have any experience on dates changing with an IVF baby?

Feelslikeforever22 · 28/03/2023 22:41

@ali2021 this is my first baby but my midwife said that with ivf pregnancies they tend to start talking about possible induction around 38/39 weeks because they don’t like you to go over. Might be different protocol where you are but I wouldn’t worry about being overdue.

Scarlett868 · 29/03/2023 11:34

@ali2021 my dates changed by around 3 days and the hospital say they go by the dating scan rather than ivf dates so my due date has changed.

As @Feelslikeforever22 mentioned I am being induced at 39 weeks as they said they don't like ivf pregnancies to go beyond that as they feel ivf placenta ages quicker than natural pregnancies so I can't imagine you going 2 weeks past your due date.

runningismytherapy · 29/03/2023 11:40

My dates changed too. At 12 week scan (I was 12+1) they said I was measuring 12+3 so dates changed by a couple of days.

I asked about the placenta thing too (as I had looked at the research and it’s very lacking), midwife was a little vague but said where I am I’m likely not to go over 40 weeks but it’s up to the consultant :)

Dbop100 · 29/03/2023 11:45

No bump for me yet at 11+2, just look super bloated! 😂

Just wondering if everyone here has been consultant lead due to IVF? I was told by other ppl I know who've done IVF that I most likely would be but my midwife said there's no need.

runningismytherapy · 29/03/2023 13:00

I have a consultant appointment (via telephone!!) around about 28 weeks I think 🤔 and IVF is listed as a ‘risk’ on my notes.
I think that’s all they mean by ‘consultant led’ (for me at least).
I guess if complications develop or they get concerned then the consultant would be more involved. X

runningismytherapy · 29/03/2023 13:03

I’ve just read my notes a bit more. It does say ‘initial consultant review’. So perhaps there will be more input. That appointment is at 24 weeks. x

Purrrrr · 29/03/2023 13:10

I’ve been told I’ll have a consultant appointment at 25 weeks. I did also have some bleeding around the 7 week mark so they’ve recommended me for fortnightly growth scans from 32 weeks onwards too. I think the consultant appointment is due to a combo of the IVF and bleeding.

Laura23FE · 29/03/2023 13:26

I haven't been told that I will have any consultant appointments ...I also had bleeds between 5-7 weeks and not had any mention of any extra scans, got me worrying no that I should have extra appointments, would I call the midwives about this or the IVF clinic?

Scarlett868 · 29/03/2023 14:47

I have been consultant led due to ivf pregnancy. I have had growth scans with consultant appointments at 28, 32 and have my 36 weeks this Friday.

It hasn't really been anything that the midwife hasn't been dealt with really, just more of a chat and they go over bloods and scans.

The extra scans have been lovely and we even got a 4d scan pic at 28 weeks which we were not expecting! Little bonus lol

Dbop100 · 03/04/2023 16:54

Had our 12 week scan today and everything looks good! Can't believe it after a such a long journey, it still feels so surreal. The baby had grown so much since our last scan at 9 weeks and was wriggling about, which was even crazier as I can't feel a thing yet (which I know is totally normal) I just mean it's even more bonkers to think all that is happening inside of you and you've no clue. I guess this means we can start believing there'll be a baby coming home later this year 💕

acaciabluebell · 03/04/2023 19:50

I also had my official hospital dating scan today 😊 Everything looked perfect, baby was measuring ahead at 12+5, had my screening bloods done too. Next appointment is my 16 weeks midwife appointment. Felt so surreal as I hadn't seen baby since 8 weeks. The change in size was just astounding!

@Dbop100 so pleased you had a good scan!

Hope all you ladies are doing amazing xx

Laura23FE · 04/04/2023 06:10

@Dbop100 @acaciabluebell so glad your scans went well 😍😍 must of been amazing .. our 12 week scan isn’t till next Tuesday when we will be 13+2 😭 feel like I’m just counting down the days ! Feel so nervous on the lead up to a scan, just want to see him/her and make sure they are ok❤️
