Well this is scary! You’d think after 2 children already I’d know the signs! But nope! Only just found out in preg and going from last time me and hubby done the deed I’d be 30 weeks! Got to get onto midwife’s tomorrow morning and get a scan booked asap! Somehow find a way of telling the hubby and other kids and the rest of the family! I didn’t plan any more kids but obviously this 1 had other ideas! Oh and I was on the 12 week depo jab!

How did you find out and why haven’t you told your husband yet?

Vicki3007 · 17/01/2023 23:01

hubby works nights so don’t wanna tell him while he’s at work and then be like oh going sleep now night lol so I’ll tell him when he’s home, what I thought was phantom kicks and bloating turned into a solid stomach, and massive moving full on stomach waving moves made me think what if? So took a test this afternoon, wasn’t even 1 min and the test come back positive straight away!

Unusual that a home pregnancy test picked up a 30 week pregnancy

Any How congratulations

Aintnosupermum · 17/01/2023 23:12

Home pregnancy tests don’t normally work past 12 weeks. The hormone they use to detect the pregnancy is lower by 30 weeks.

simplesimply · 17/01/2023 23:12

Wow, that must've been a shock!!
I had a bit of anxiety during pregnancy, so in a way finding out at 30 weeks would be a dream Wink
Good luck with dealing with it all.

YourGazeHitsTheSideOfMyFace · 17/01/2023 23:20

OP, I feel someone has to say this, but I will probably get both barrels for telling the truth and branded a ‘hater’. Sobeit. I think health is the most important thing we have and sometimes a chance remark can lead to an essential diagnosis.

It is very unlikely that you would have no suspicion of pregnancy until 30 weeks, especially having been pregnant before.

There are other conditions which might cause a positive test, and cause the symptoms you are experiencing, especially the bloating, and I suggest gently that you should see a doctor to either confirm your pregnancy or rule out other conditions. I would do this as soon as possible. I hope that your happiness is confirmed!

It’s a myth that home pregnancy tests don’t pick up second/third trimester pregnancies. There can be false negatives because the HCG levels are too high but it’s uncommon. the hook effect

I peed on a stick at 36 weeks pregnant (with twins!) out of interest and it was positive.

Anyway, huge congratulations OP. What a lovely surprise!

mondaytosunday · 17/01/2023 23:22

My mother's carer (24, not in a relationship) didn't know she was pregnant til she almost gave birth in my mother's toilet! And she's a nurse! I saw her she certainly did not look pregnant, and she said she still had periods.
How weird to go to work feeling a little off colour then a few hours later have a baby! Her much adored daughter is now 8.

LordSugarTits · 17/01/2023 23:23

Of course home pregnancy tests work later on in pregnancy, another one here who tested it out. People are so quick here to peddle out that myth. I had one friend who was a HCP calling another a liar over it. So I peed on a stick at 30+ weeks and solved their argument.

It was positive. Good luck OP

I hated pregnancy, I have always felt so envious of people who this happens to 😁 Congratulations!

My colleague found out very late. I hadn't worked with her long and she was always saying her back or feet hurt
Anyway she went to the doctors because of the back pain and was sent to hospital, they said "it's because of the baby"
Her "what baby??!"
She gave birth about a week later Blush not a clue

Return2thebasic · 17/01/2023 23:37

Congratulations! I still miss the feeling of finding it out with the stick and all the anxiety it brought along with. 😏😬 (But I'm done with it though.)

Good luck with everything and what a wonderful story to tell for years to come!

Congrats!!

AthenaPopodopolous · 18/01/2023 00:25

Are you showing or have a bump? Congratulations btw.

Parentandteacher · 18/01/2023 00:28

SouperNoodle · 18/01/2023 00:38

I hope your husband doesn't faint with the shock 😅 best ask him to sit down first before you tell him! Good luck

hellosunshineagainxxx · 18/01/2023 00:47

No form of contraception is 100% effective.
Only abstinence will guarantee that.

I found out I was pregnant last year at about 24 weeks. Home pregnancy test worked for me! I found it quite hard telling DH because it was so unexpected. She's here now and absolutely amazing, the best surprise.

Congratulations and good luck for your scan tomorrow - I was so nervous before mine. If your hospital is like mine you'll have another scan next week to check growth aligns with their estimated due date.

Whatsthestitch · 18/01/2023 01:17

Did you not have any symptoms at all op? Was that the same for your other two pregnancies? Shocked for you but a big congrats

mackthepony · 18/01/2023 01:20

Congratulations! What a shocker!

Sodullincomparison · 18/01/2023 01:50

This happened to a member of DH’s team this week and she still isn’t showing. She just had a bad back.

I didn’t think it happened so late.

good luck OP!!
