Congratulations to everyone that's had a scan recently and also good luck to those that have scans today.

Talks of pillows etc is helpful, we desperately need to get a king/super king. We're both squished in to a standard double and add in a pillow and my big belly one of us is going to end up on the floor 🤣

I was feeling a bit negative yesterday. My golden retriever trod on my belly low down 🙄 and I got in to a bit of negative headspace. I'm feeling more positive today and just under a week until my 12 week scan.

@marleyandme that looks soo comfy🤣 I still lay on my front and back atm when is it meant to switch to side only? I assumed I had ages 🤣

Same here, I do mainly sleep on my side but switch sides/on my back and also on front too. I assumed it was later on that I had to do this. Has anyone got any advice about when you are meant to start?

ChloeN · 18/01/2023 10:11

@LBF2020 the pillow will probably take up the entire bed🤣 we’ve got a super king and our dog sleeps in the middle so we still have no room, she’s only small 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

LBF2020 · 18/01/2023 10:16

@ChloeN I could just tell DH that he has to move to the spare room 🤣
30kg of dog gets in for a cuddle in the mornings, but stays most of the night on the floor. I've no idea how we all fit? DDog is a contortionist!
Looking at new beds online now 🤣

Got my 12 week scan in under an hour. Now chugging water like there is no tomorrow.

Re side sleeping, with my son I started super early, like at 8 weeks. By the end, I was so miserable with bad hip pain from sleeping on the sides. I remember having to put extra thick duvet underneath, plus a gazillion pillows and a pregnancy pillow, and still I couldn't get through the night without pain. First thing I did after c section is lie flat on my back and it was bliss! 😬 Orgasms are nothing in comparison😂 So this time I am holding out until later. Official advice is from 28 weeks onwards to sleep on the side only, but I will probably start around 16/17 weeks.

Hi @Firsttimemomma1 - I'm a sonographer (though I no longer do obstetric scanning). Please don't go worrying yourself about this, it is so very unlikely that your baby will have been harmed from listening to the heartbeat. We do not offer for parents to hear the heartbeats during scans where I work. We'd need to use something called pulse wave Doppler to do this and as others have said, excessive use of Doppler during a scan is not advised due to the extra heat it uses. I seriously doubt any baby has been born damaged from it - there's no guidelines on how much one can have. The sonographer would have used it for a few seconds only. We were taught to limit its use (in early pregnancy particularly), to what is necessary, and in my department they don't deem listening to the heartbeat a necessity, particularly when you can see it beating away there on the screen! Lots of patients ask for it though and some would be quite cross if you wouldn't do it. Please don't go worrying about this, I'm sure you have enough on your plate!

PumpkinEverything · 18/01/2023 10:36

Good to know about side sleeping @UsernameNotPresent ! I’d been wondering too as I think I slept on my back all night because my daughter was beside us and I just mustn’t have moved much as I’d no room 😂

I am a sleep on all 4 sides type person so constantly turn usually. I still get pain sleeping on my left side now after having her so I’m hoping it doesn’t get any worse. Still got my pregnancy pillow up in the attic and hoping to hold out for another while before I get it down 🤞🏻

ChloeN · 18/01/2023 10:41

@overwork oh that’s lovely to hear, I’d stopped worrying about it but it’s nice to have some reassurance anyway! To be fair she did only listen for about 5 seconds anyway

Firsttimemomma1 · 18/01/2023 10:48

@overwork that is amazing to hear, especially from a professional in the industry! Thank you so much.

She did it for no more than about 3 seconds but the EPU nurse today made it sound like the end of the world and my head (and heart) exploded thinking “what on Earth have I allowed to happen here”.

Thank you again for your input from a professional perspective! Really really appreciate it. I can somewhat breathe after the responses you ladies have been so kind to reply with.

marleyandme · 18/01/2023 11:36

@UsernameNotPresent thanks for that info on when it's not recommended to sleep on your back from! I hadn't realised it was that late into pregnancy, for some reason I'd got it in my mind it was after first trimester but third makes sense with the weight of the bump by then.
Feeling relieved now that I can still sleep on my back for it a bit!

LS888 · 18/01/2023 11:42

So I had my scan this morning and it was such a lovely experience! I’m measuring slightly further ahead than my early scan suggested. 11+6 today (was previously 11+4) so 12 weeks tomorrow. Was so lovely to see it move and stretch around 💕 She printed loads of photos for us too. Honestly felt sick with anxiety on the way in but it was all worth it to see our little baby. Due date changed slightly too but still August- 3rd! x

@LS888 congratulations! What lovely news 😍

LBF2020 · 18/01/2023 11:56

@LS888 congratulations, I'm so happy it went well 🥰

AnnieApple123 · 18/01/2023 12:02

Lovely news @LS888 !

@Firsttimemomma1 I hear you and I’d be annoyed too. Hopefully you’ve been reassured by others’ wise words on here.

I’ve just been to Tumble Tots with DS and lots of people were wearing baggy clothes post-Xmas. I didn’t feel I stood out at all and I highly doubt anyone suspected anything yet.

@LBF2020 Much sympathy re:golden retriever. I have this issue with my DS. I’ve had one kick and several more close shaves. I’ve not always had the energy to move out of the way.

@LS888 congratulations 🥰 so lovely.

I am loving all of these amazing 12 week scans 👏🏻 cannot wait to get to 12 weeks now!

LBF2020 · 18/01/2023 12:24

@AnnieApple123
Picture of the belly-stomping, unruly, bed-stealing contortionist! I'm sure I have lots of protection around baby right now (especially with this bloat 🤣) but it's still a worry.

Another question for you all..

Skincare - Can anyway recommend pregnancy safe stuff? Cleanser, moisturiser, facial oil etc.. Everything I have seems to be unsuitable or suggest you consult with GP before use.

ChloeN · 18/01/2023 12:29

@LBF2020 I use ESPA foaming face wash and cleansing milk, then Charlotte tilbury magic cream. From what I can find online they’re all safe ☺️xx

AnnieApple123 · 18/01/2023 12:35

@LBF2020 Gorgeous! He weighs exactly twice what my DS does. I’m with you on the worry.

I’m using almost all Green People products currently and would recommend them. Only downside is they’re not cheap.

Just a little psa.. any gals in Scotland.. we're still getting free period supply's.. I've just received 4 pairs of reusable period pants and 2 packs of the reusable pads! I ordered them ages ago but though ideal for post partum bleeding!
If you google period poverty Scotland there should be a link to order online at the bottom of the gov page :)

sally16 · 18/01/2023 12:46

@LBF2020 if it makes you feel better my toddler cannon balls my stomach Atleast 4 times a day and kicks in his sleep 🫠

UsernameNotPresent · 18/01/2023 13:05

12 week scan all fine ☺️ It suddenly feels very real! Now I just need to wait for my NIPT blood results to come back at some point next week, and then I can start to properly relax.

Mulner88 · 18/01/2023 13:18

@LS888 @UsernameNotPresent congrats on the successful scans ☺️ x
