@LBF2020 It’s not routine but, if you have risk factors, they can scan you to check cervical length. It’s most often done alongside the anomaly scan. I have a friend currently who has a cervical stitch and is in her third trimester now.

Thanks for this @AnnieApple123 🥰

Sjw30 · 15/01/2023 21:17

@sally16 Glad your scan went well today!

Sjw30 · 15/01/2023 21:19

@Havanalily1806 Sorry your scan wasn’t as expected. I agree with everyone definitely give your EPU a call.

Sjw30 · 15/01/2023 21:31

I’m getting more and more anxious, with no date yet for my 12 week scan which is definitely not helping. I know some of you are suffering so please don’t think I am complaining about feeling okay. I really hope you all feel better soon. My symptoms have never been strong really, nausea now and then sore boobs and fatigued. I’ve had two scans all was well so I’ve had reassurance, even with minimal symptoms. Today I feel fine, boobs have gone from feeling like hard rocks and painful to absolutely normal. I’m 10+5. Sorry just some anxious ramblings, wish I had a scan date. I won’t get it until my booking appointment which isn’t for another week!

AnnieApple123 · 15/01/2023 21:32

So sorry @Havanalily1806 that this has given you more worry when it was meant to do the opposite. Hope you can get some answers tomorrow. xx

@Sjw30 that sounds sooo frustrating not having a scan date! They definitely forget something routine for them is a golden ticket for us! Maybe phone and ask for your date? Say something obscure about a holiday or something to say you'd like to know wether you need to move it slightly etc!

@Mumtobabyhavoc I cry constantly lol.. and rewatching greys has destroyed me lol DP keeps telling me to stop sobbing into my pillow because he's not swapping me anymore 🤣🤣🤣

Sjw30 · 15/01/2023 22:00

@sally16 I’ve tried asking for it twice but they said they can’t 😭.

@Mumtobabyhavoc my partner is very much the best person ever 😅 does 99% of what I ask.. but cannot clean right safe himself!

@Sjw30 that's rediculous! I'd be so mad!

BCxx · 15/01/2023 23:01

Aww just catching up, sorry your scan wasn’t as expected @Havanalily1806 i have seen stories on here of early scans being quite out with dates at the first one then them jumping forward a week or more by the second early scan so potentially if it’s been an abdominal one and a bit off as well the fact they’re so small at that stage, it might not be all bad news. I know you’ll probably want to prepare yourself either way but it does sound like there could still be some hope there but it might be one of those horribly long waits to find out. Hopefully your EPU will do another scan and possibly give you some more answers 🤞🏼

AnnieApple123 · 16/01/2023 07:42

Happy Blue Monday everyone! Hopefully it will be a positive one for us with lots of good scan news.

I can’t believe I’ve reached 12 weeks today. I did my roots last night to celebrate! DS has a class this morning. My mum says she’d just ‘come out’ now and wear my usual (quite tight) clothes, allowing my bump to show. I don’t feel I can though until I’ve had my scan and ideally got NIPT results. I don’t want to jinx anything. Hence I’ll be going for a super baggy look this week…

How is everyone else doing this morning?

Happy Monday. Congratulations on 12 weeks! I have a booking appointment on the 25th at 9 weeks so thats my next milestone and then 12 weeks which I think is around the 15th of Feb. One of my parents know and one of my inlaws (the other unfortunately loves gossip and my dad is a worrier) so I imagine we'll let them know after the sca

As for everyone else they can wait until the bump is undeniable and I'll tell them if they ask. Although they did spend all of Saturday telling me I had put on quite a bit of weight and I was getting 'big'. So not sure how long that will be.

When does everyone plan on telling their kids? I'm hoping to get to 20 weeks before telling them unless they ask.

SnowL2021 · 16/01/2023 08:06

@Havanalily1806 Sorry you’re feeling so confused and worried about the scan. I hope you get some answers soon.

@AnnieApple123 congrats on reaching 12 weeks! I’m 12 weeks tomorrow. Scan is a week tomorrow, at 13 weeks.

I feel AWFUL today. Feel sick every time I move. Have a very energetic and needy one-year-old to look after (cries every time I leave him/put him down/do anything) and I’m struggling to cope already. Family live an hour and a half away and we haven’t told them yet anyway, so feel like I’ve just got to get on with it, but I’m not sure how!

Congratulations!

exactly the same as you; need NIPT first in case something has gone wrong.
I’d wait until 20 weeks if it wasn’t so obvious!!!

LS888 · 16/01/2023 09:28

i wouldn’t say I’m showing yet but my jeans and trousers are definitely tighter and uncomfortable to wear now. Started to wear joggers more and even bought some maternity leggings online yesterday to see if they feel better. Probably just the bloat!

I’ve had some mornings definitely feeling less sick. Started having a digestive biscuit before I even get out of bed. That seems to help. But then out of the blue I will have a morning feeling horrible. Brushing my teeth is a major trigger for heaving. Last night I even brought up my tea just before bed. I hadn’t been sick in the evening before - just felt it. So sickness is definitely still there!! My scan is on Wednesday and I’m starting to feel a bit nervous.

BoodifulGoose · 16/01/2023 09:49

Anyone else not getting NIPT testing done?
Don't feel like I can justify the cost without real cause for concern and I'm in no higher risk factors, but seeing so many people mention it so often is making me worry that it's something I should do?

Obviously would change if NT comes back high but then would hopefully be getting it on the NHS?

sally16 · 16/01/2023 10:04

@BoodifulGoose I'm not having any of them done, didn't with DS either..
just personal preference :)
Consultant said if there was any cause for concern from scans she would prompt me again to consider the tests but never needed too :)

My anxiety goes south with that kinda thing.. could be 1/1000000 and I'd still focus on the 1 😂

UsernameNotPresent · 16/01/2023 10:08

My to do list keeps growing, but the exhaustion is real. I just want to sleep. Nausea is a bit touch and go, but for me it's mainly triggered by perfume smells and being woken up in the night. Just over 11 weeks, have my NIPT and private scan that comes with it tomorrow, followed by NHS 12 week scan and obstetrics review on Wednesday. I can't concentrate on anything in anticipation!

I will tell my DS once NIPT results come back in 1 weeks time, I have a feeling I will need all the time I can get to get him ready for a sibling.

BusyBushBaby · 16/01/2023 10:13

I'm not having NIPT as results could be complicated by the deceased twin. If the nuchal/maternal serum screen comes back high risk we will look at our options again.

SnowL2021 · 16/01/2023 10:24

I’m not having NIPT either - didn’t have it with my son and didn’t really know about it. I would look into it, though, if NHS results showed any cause for concern

CityKity · 16/01/2023 10:45

I’m 11 weeks today! Where has time gone?! Totally agree with a PP that time raced over the rush of Christmas/New Year but these last 3 weeks are crawling for me!
My 12 week scan is next week, which feels like it will take forever to come around, so need to keep busy this week to stop thinking about it.
I’m also not getting an NIPT. I wouldn’t even have known what it was if it wasn’t for mumsnet. Obviously if there is any concern at next weeks scan, I will go on to have whatever tests are recommended.
I still feel mainly normal just more tired than usual. I lost a bit of weight over the first weeks due to loss of appetite (although no nausea, just food aversions), I weighed myself this morning because I really think I’m getting bigger and I’m just under my normal weight, so it must be all in my head/bloating!
I had a bout of insomnia over the last month or so which was driving me crazy, but I seem to be out of that phase now, so very relieved to be finally sleeping!

Don’t worry about it.

im old, and husband is even older so we’ve done it to put our minds at ease. If you’ve got nothing to be concerned about then there’s no need to do it.

I’ve been told that you can’t do it if one is deceased so I have to have another scan just before to check whether they’re both okay.

Hope you’re doing okay ❤️

Havanalily1806 · 16/01/2023 10:58

Thanks for everyone's messages yesterday.

It was an internal scan so should be quite accurate. My EPU don't accept self referrals and have tried the midwives this morning. They won't refer me for a scan and have said to wait for my 12 week scan, advising if I wanted another I would have to go private.

I think that is a complete disgrace that I will need to go back to a place where the experience was horrendous, and pay for the privilege to get told the outcome we know is coming, to then have to battle again for a referral for healthcare. I would much rather be under the care of the NHS now, it doesn't make any sense.

And I cannot bare the thought of waiting for potentially another 4 weeks to attend a scan in a waiting room full of happy expectant mothers to then be told the news. Not to mention the delay in treatment and trying again.

I know before then it could happen naturally but what if it doesn't 😞
