I've managed to stay roughly the same, maybe lose a couple of lbs. My bmi is almost 29 though so I don't want to get too carried away. Almost 10 weeks.

firsttimelondonmummy · 16/11/2022 15:30

On that note of BMI is anyone comfortable sharing?
I’m slightly over at 25.1 and panicking I’ve not been taking enough folic acid as I’m now technically classed as overweight (even if it is by 1lb).
BMI screams bull to me anyway as I am a size 8/10 and certainly not unhealthy.

By sharing I mean sharing experience with being over and what to do if slightly so?

I am 24.7, so technically not over, but pretty close. The midwife asked if I was taking a standard 400mcg dose, and didn't seem to indicate there were any issues with that.

Hi ladies I had my dating scan today am 11+4 baby was laying perfectly for them to scan and it was amazing, I’ve been having terrible nightmares about scans and got myself worried so was such a relief to see little one on the screen, I shed a tear seeing them.
symptom wise I am still being sick everyday and very tired!
I am showing but I think I’m showing early as I already have children I’ve found the more I’ve had the earlier I’ve shown.
I have a feeling we are having a little boy, time will tell.
hope everyone is doing well, I need to do lots of reading on here x

blebbleb · 16/11/2022 15:49

@firsttimelondonmummy my bmi is 28.9 but I'm short and weigh 11 stone. The midwife just asked if I was taking folic acid and I said yes. Perhaps it depends on your weight rather than bmi.

MrsP4 · 16/11/2022 15:51

Thanks @blebbleb definitely don't feel great, I wasn't that big with my daughter but carried really low the whole time so think it might be same again. The bloating at the end of the day is horrible. If I have a big meal I'm so uncomfortable I've been having toast and sandwiches for tea instead of a meal

firsttimelondonmummy · 16/11/2022 16:00

Thanks ladies!
Also is anyone eating crap? I’m legit having half a chocolate bar (small ones as in shops size) and a bag of crisps a day and sometimes a couple sweets.
I’m only enjoying beige or sweet food, really gone off everything else and panicking I’m a horrible human.
No weight gain yet (8+3) I’m monitoring closely but worried about nutrition (taking Pregnacare max to combat)

@blebbleb I’m 5’5 and 10 stone 11 I’m right on the cusp of healthy/ overweight.
Doesn't half damage your self image for checking your BMI 😭

@Blossomhoney I'm convinced I'm having a boy! If this one turns out to be a girl I'll be wondering where my boy foetus went! I don't mind either way but I've already nicknamed it Baby Jeff and call it he all the time 😂

Ha yes it's a bit soul destroying. Especially as my bmi was 23 when I was last pregnant! Managed to lose 10lbs before this pregnancy at least and will be watching what I eat. Also have to have a glucose test in March in case of gestational diabetes but I'm not particularly worried about that.

NalaNana · 16/11/2022 16:45

@firsttimelondonmummy I wouldn't worry! My midwife said you need a folic acid prescription for a higher dose if BMI is 35 or over x

Zaalfruit · 16/11/2022 16:59

Hiya all - is it okay if I join ? I am on the cusp of 1st June baby fingers crossed . This is baby number 2 for me - however finding it a 1000 times harder this time with sickness and fatigue .

Fredthespider · 16/11/2022 17:26

I was told my BMI was 29.6 at booking, but that they would round it up to 30 putting me into the obese category. I am definitely overweight but it was a little bit of a shock. I was given a prescription for higher dose folic acid and told I would get a glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks to check for gestational diabetes. I have family history of diabetes so although it’s a pain I’d rather they check.

I’m trying to be careful about the future weight gain and so far haven’t put any more on 🤞🏼

DrinkingAllTheGin · 16/11/2022 17:33

My bmi is much higher. I'm 5ft and size 16. I know I'm overweight but thanks to huge boobs, I am in the obese category. Hence why weight loss is not a bad thing for me. I am eating fairly balanced meals, just smaller.

firsttimelondonmummy · 16/11/2022 19:20

@Fredthespider I do think the categories are a bit dramatic.
like you said better to be safe with checks if it’s in the family but fingers crossed all good for you 🤞🏻💖

@DrinkingAllTheGin I swear it’s my boobs pushing me up a category 😂 I was a 30DD before I think I’m easily an F already.
when I get up it’s like dragging two watermelons up with me 😭🤣

I got told yesterday that the glucose test kicks in if you are BMI 30 or above or you have had GD previously. I tick both boxes unfortunately. My BMI is 32 and I have been taking the higher dose folic acid since 5 weeks. As soon as I knew I was pregnant I got the GP to prescribe it. It makes me cross that it doesn't get mentioned until booking appointment unless you know from previous experience. The GP should know to prescribe it as soon as you tell them you're pregnant if your BMI is over a certain amount.

Hopeful1992 · 16/11/2022 19:28

7 weeks today and the lower back ache has returned, mainly one sided but radiates into my bum cheek/round my hip. It’s not painful just uncomfortable did anyone else have this? I’m presuming it’s hormones and ligaments etc.
have a private scan next Saturday and I can’t wait just to hopefully give myself some peace of mind and I can stop worrying 😂

justbelieve · 17/11/2022 07:42

@firsttimelondonmummy good luck for your scan today! ❤️

tigerlily0 · 17/11/2022 09:19

How's everyone doing? I'm 12 weeks tmrw and for some reason I'm vomiting more in the mornings. Still nauseous and bloated so much by evening.

@Hopeful1992 I have hip pain which I think are ligaments getting ready to expand. Also have abdo and pubic bone pain which iv never had before but I'm assuming it's all the body just getting ready to expand and accommodate baby

WindUpPenguin · 17/11/2022 10:54

I'm really struggling with the bloating too. By every evening I look five months pregnant already! I assume it is largely linked to my current diet as I am really struggling to stomach fruit and veg and just want cheese and carbs...

I tried to be healthier and have nuts for my late afternoon snack yesterday, and ended up being very sick and unable to eat my dinner.

I've also been getting various abdominal pains, but I think that's probably also caused by the bloating.

Baby3herewego · 17/11/2022 10:58

Everyone worrying about BMI please remember that unless you are using scales that also give you muscle mass, water, bone etc then it’s very off just going by weight, height. For example, I’m 67kg but have 48.70kg of muscle mass with my body fat being 23% which is classed as being in the fitness level.

It’s unfortunate that doctors/midwives don’t use better scales when taking your weight. It can really get to some people!

I had a similar back pain in my first pregnancy and was diagnosed with sciatica. So, possibly that?

firsttimelondonmummy · 17/11/2022 12:37

@justbelieve thank you so much! Scan went really well measuring around 9 weeks and a strong heartbeat of 177bpm!
got to see the feet wiggling which was mega cute.
Hopefully this will help me stop worrying so much about my lack of symptoms 🤞🏻
