@firsttimelondonmummy i think it’s totally normal not to see a heartbeat at 6+2. Some will but not everyone. Our first scan was at 7 weeks and although the wait was horrendous, you could see the start of limb buds and heartbeat and it was amazing so next weeks scan you will notice a huge difference

ive booked a private scan for next Thursday and I’ll be 9+3 so I can’t wait to see how things have changed

NalaNana · 28/10/2022 14:12

I had a private abdominal scan today at 8+5 and dates were bang on. Strong heartbeat heard. It's such a relief after a previous loss. Next scan will be with the NHS at 12 weeks!

B1993 · 28/10/2022 14:26

@MrsP4, Wow! I was always told my labour was super fast (just shy of 11 hours from waters breaking/first contraction to having him out) but 6.5 hours is insane!!

@firsttimelondonmummy, sorry, I should have been clearer with my message. I was answering @LouLa7 when taking about my experience with internal/ abdominal scans.

6 week can be early for a heartbeat so it's good you're not letting it worry you! 😊

B1993 · 28/10/2022 14:29

@Tinkerbell098 That must be frustrating that they can't give you a clearer answer! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't need any medical intervention! 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Wishing you lots of future success for a rainbow 🌈 Sorry again that this one didn't work out 💔

B1993 · 28/10/2022 14:32

@NalaNana I'm pleased your scan was such a success! 💖 That must have been incredible to hear the heartbeat too! Even with my private scans with DS, we were never able to hear it and I don't think it's something the NHS offer?

NalaNana · 28/10/2022 14:36

Thanks @B1993 it makes me feel a bit more confident in the pregnancy which is lovely. I'm not sure if it's a new thing but you can hear the heartbeat at the place I used offers heartbeat teddy bears, where they put the recording inside! I've not gone for that this time but might do at a later date. I'm not sure if the NHS offer to hear the heartbeat but my midwife said we'd hear it with a Doppler at 25 weeks x

MrsP4 · 28/10/2022 14:38

@B1993 I know right 🙈 better have some towels ready at home just in case I think.
I also didn't realise with second pregnancies you don't see the midwife as much, see her next at 15 weeks then I think she said 22 weeks and then 28 etc

BobbySD345 · 28/10/2022 14:53

@firsttimelondonmummy was this an internal scan? Bet it was so lovely to see 🥰

BobbySD345 · 28/10/2022 14:56

@firsttimelondonmummy sorry just saw it was abdominal. I had lots of comments to catch up on! We are tempted to book one for a week tomorrow, 5th November. Only thing is it would be the day after my little ones 3rd Birthday and we have his party the next day so I don't know if it was bad news how we would then deal with that. Almost tempted to just keep as we are and wait for the week after when we would see a lot more (hopefully). I guess I am just a bit anxious after my stupid fall down the stairs...

B1993 · 28/10/2022 15:24

@NalaNana How lovely! 🥰 I'm sure I heard the heartbeat at my 16 week appointment with my first so I hope they do try with the Doppler then!

@MrsP4 Yes! 🙈🙈

I have my next appointment booked for 22/12 - seems ages away. I'm not too fussed at not having so many appointments but not really thought that far ahead so maybe I'll think differently down the line. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Littlebear14 · 28/10/2022 15:26

Hi everyone, joining on here a bit late! I am 6 weeks 6 days, due around June 17th! Tested positive just over 3 weeks ago. We had a private scan two days ago that went really well - saw and heard a strong heartbeat 😊 still trying not to get too excited just yet as I know things can change!! But so glad we did the scan as I was really concerned about having an ectopic. Nice to meet you all!

BobbySD345 · 28/10/2022 22:18

Anti biotics for an infected wisdom tooth ! Never fails as an excuse why you're not drinking. There will always be someone who says "ah there's no issue you can drink on them" but I always went back with, I did that once and had the shits for days. Never again. 😆

3ToB · 28/10/2022 22:30

Hi lovelies.
Congratulations to all 🤩
I got a surprise (but knew it deep down) bfp today. My app puts me at 4+5 and due on 4/7/23.
Even if that was bang on, I know I'm having an elective this time so will be a June baby 😄

justbelieve · 29/10/2022 05:57

I received a letter yesterday with what I think is my booking appointment, but it just says maternity appointment and has no information at all which isn’t helpful. The only thing is, it’s booked for when I’m exactly 10 weeks - aren’t you supposed to have some tests done before 10 weeks? Should I try to contact them or is that normal? This is my first pregnancy

Quokka7 · 29/10/2022 08:47

I haven't posted on here for a few days, it moves so fast! @shabbadababa great having another due date twin! How are you feeling at the moment? Im 8+1 now and I've been feeling so sick the last few days and am crazy tired.

@justbelieve I think it depends on your NHS trust, but where I am we don't have any blood or urine tests until the 12 week scan. I checked with the midwife if that meant they could miss something with it being later than most trusts and she reassured me that it was fine. I had my first appointment earlier this week and they checked my weight, height and medication but didnt go through family history. Apparently that's between 9-10 weeks for me! So I wouldn't worry. Its definitely not helpful that it didnt have much information on the letter, but you're being seen at the perfect time! 😊

@Littlebear14 @3ToB welcome! 👋

@B1993 is your next appointment for the 12 week scan? The end of November?

@NalaNana Congratulations on your early scan! 😁

B1993 · 29/10/2022 09:13

Morning all,

Congratulations to the new joiners, welcome all! 🤗

@justbelieve there's a time frame with all appointments and the booking appointment is usually completed somewhere between 7-12 weeks, I believe. I don't think they ever give an overview of what each appointment entails but usually the booking is to take initial BMI, urine, bloods etc. and to go through family history. With my first pregnancy, I found an nhs overview with dates/details of each appointment and that was really helpful. Might be worth a Google to see if you can find that.

I am assuming it will be end of November @Quokka7 as that's when I'll be roughly 12 weeks but I still don't have the letter yet! Anyone else in the same boat? I had by booking on Tue and got my consultant appointment letter through after couple of days (via text) for 29/11 so hoping I get my scan letter soon! I have another EPAU scan this coming Thursday at 9+1 so that will be a nice bridge between now and 12 week scan as this trimester seems to be dragging!!

Quokka7 · 29/10/2022 09:37

@B1993 it does seem to be dragging doesn't it! I havent had an early scan yet so its feeling like an age! Due to the problem in my last pregnancy my bereavement midwife is arranging for me to have one when I'm almost 10 weeks so it's not too long away. I havent had my 12 week scan appointment through though yet either. I think it'll be booked after my booking appointment. Have you had any more spotting or has it stopped now? Hope your scan goes well next week!

Ally1992 · 29/10/2022 09:52

I had a rough night last night, woke up at 2am to be sick which then carried on a further 3 more times until 6am ☹️ I had to hurry my partner out of Tesco just now as I thought it was going to start again. I feel bad moaning about it as I know I’m very lucky but I want this first trimester to be over with now, anyone else feeling the same?

B1993 · 29/10/2022 10:04

@Quokka7 It seems to be taking forever! 😩 I don't think it helped that I found out so early with this pregnancy whereas with DS, I didn't test until I was a couple of days late so found out a whole week later with him.

Sorry to hear you had problems with your last pregnancy. Hopefully your early scan will go well and this pregancy will be a much smoother journey for you!!🤞🏻

I haven't had spotting since Thursday afternoon so hoping that is a good sign. Still feeling mild nausea through the day so also taking that as a positive. Thank you for checking in 💜

B1993 · 29/10/2022 10:14

After just complaining that I haven't had my scan date, 3 letters just arrived: paper copy of my consultancy appointment, maternity exemption certificate and scan date(!!!) booked for 25/11. Hopefully it won't drag so much now given that I have a few dates to look forward to! 😂

HalWin2221 · 29/10/2022 10:29

When did you ladies ring for your first appointment? Am I late to the party being 5+1 and not rang yet? 😬 I’m in this silly mind frame of, if I talk about the pregnancy, it will go away!

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 29/10/2022 10:35

@Tinkerbell098 sorry for what you're going through x I hope you get answers soon xx take care of yourself.

Congrats to all new BFPS!

I haven't had my 12 week scan letter yet. I suppose it may come after my booking app on 9/11. Got my next scan at EPAU 7/11 which isn't long away so hoping it comes quick. I'll be 9+3weeks then. Hoping it's all good news and baby is growing in right place on the scan.

B1993 · 29/10/2022 10:43

@HalWin2221, I used 'My Pregnancy Notes' which is the online booking system most(?) trusts use. I did it before I was even 4 weeks because I started spotting bright-red blood and that came after my previous loss the month before. So, I wanted the pregnancy on record, if the worse was to happen again. I know that sounds cynical but seemed like the practical thing to do 🤷🏻‍♀️

Littlebear14 · 29/10/2022 10:44

@HalWin2221 I rang the day after getting my BFP, at 3 weeks 5 days. May have been super keen but I just wanted to get on their radar early as I have heard about appointments being first come first served.

@BellaTheDarkOverlord I registered with the hospital I want to use (as well as having my booking apt arranged through my GP) and had the 12 week scan letter sent through by them. I probably could have waited til the booking apt to get my scan appointment but it's good to know it's all sorted already.

B1993 · 29/10/2022 10:45

@BellaTheDarkOverlord My midwife didn't organise the 12 week scan until after my booking appointment either. I got the letter this morning so 4 days after the booking app.

Good look with the early scan!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻
