Was thinking I was doing pretty well losing my weight until someone asked me when I was due and I had to say I had her 2 weeks ago... feel great now 🙄😂😂

Isonthecase · 28/08/2022 05:56

@mamaof2girls I reckon it'll still be that, I was sore around there this time and my only epidural was with my first 5 years ago. My theory is it's something to do with the contractions aggravating things

Oh no @Gem2811 🤣 it takes so long for everything to go down!

CoalCraft · 28/08/2022 06:29

Sorry for going quiet everyone - it's been a bit manic with newborn and toddler!

Things have been going great though! DD2 is three weeks old today and growing like a weed. I wish she'd take bigger, less frequent feeds rather than like half a boob every 1.5 hours but hey ho. DD1 has also settled down loads and now loves her little sister. Is always stroking her hair and trying to keep her warm with blankets (regardless of whether or not they're needed!)

Congrats to all whose babies have arrived 💕

Passthetena · 28/08/2022 09:18

We're on day 6 now and after switching from boob to formula due to jaundice I decided to start pumping today to see if we could do expressed milk instead or alongside formula....I actually got some out!! After not breastfeeding for 5 days! So proud of my boobs, sorry for oversharing but i feel like here is the only place that would be appreciated haha.

beckybloomwood11 · 28/08/2022 10:00

Due date tomorrow - hopefully baby arrives soon, I'm getting fed up! Started getting the messages from people asking if the baby's here yet - I'd heard this was a thing but wasn't expecting it from so many people and how annoyed by it I'd be!

Cakecakecheese · 28/08/2022 12:19

@beckybloomwood11 direct people to this website haveyouhadthatbabyyet.com/ 😁

AbiGoLucky · 28/08/2022 12:28

@Cakecakecheese hahahaha!! Well this is going to come in handy! 🤣😂

Beth262 · 28/08/2022 12:36

@Passthetena awesome job 👏 You going to carry on?

@Cakecakecheese 😂 love it!

Love that @Cakecakecheese 😂

PopGoesBang · 28/08/2022 16:51

@Passthetena Yey boobs! Hope they keep
Giving milk if that's what you decide. Sounds like they would be happy to carry on, which is great.

@Cakecakecheese that's brilliant!

Anyone else doing the Vit d drops and breastfeeding - getting a bit fed up of dripping them on the nip and interrupting the fed. Almost as annoying as when dd1 needed infant gaviscon for reflux. Is there an obvious tip I'm not getting?

AbiGoLucky · 28/08/2022 18:13

@PopGoesBang hmmm I've got some Vit D drops from one of the bounty bags was going to try but don't think I will bother using them now as will be taking pregnacare breastfeeding vits so my theory is it will pass to baby too and won't be as much of a fuss at feeding time hopefully 🤞 I can only hope anyway!! 🫣

Unsure1010 · 28/08/2022 18:17

So glad to hear of all th new arrivals on the thread!!! So many here now. Sending positive, labouring thoughts to everyone still waiting, hope all the little ones are here soon.

For those who delivered naturally and had stitches, how long were you advised to avoid bathing for? DD is now 1 week and 1 day old, and all I want is a nice, hot, soak in the bath….. I was just told to not bath, but not for how long, and my addled brain at the time didn’t think to ask.

thats great news @Passthetena !!! I formula fed in the hospital, because I couldn’t face the pressure of being forced to breastfeed (they kept me in for 3 nights with my first, and wouldn’t allow me to introduce a bottle, until I broke down in tears) so refused to follow that. When we got home, this time round, the next day, I tried breastfeeding, with formula topping up, and we’ve managed to move to exclusively breastfeeding in a week. Our bodies really are amazing.

@PopGoesBang i wasn’t even aware I was meant to be adding Vit D drops. Will have to look into it. Sorry, can’t offer any tips or help.

PopGoesBang · 28/08/2022 18:23

@AbiGoLucky @Unsure1010 I wasn't overly aware before the health visitor on wed - apparently Vitamin d is the only one not to pass thru breast milk. And formula has it included I believe. I don't remember doing it with dd1 and she seems ok!

AbiGoLucky · 28/08/2022 18:33

@PopGoesBang ooh didn't know that either! Ah so I might end up using them then after all 😅

Isonthecase · 28/08/2022 18:34

Oh yeah, we forgot the vit d too. Still have to dig it out.

@Unsure1010 my hospital allowed baths right after labour, even with stitches. It's just nothing but water (and maybe some approved bath salts) for a while. I also forgot to ask how long a while 🤣

PopGoesBang · 28/08/2022 18:37

@AbiGoLucky I wanted to point out that all the august babies have had a good dose of it via the sun this year! But decided not to. I'm sure they must get a fair amount of it but maybe just not the recommended daily amount / especially winter time. Be interesting if any one else has it mentioned, before Wednesday none had said anything about it.

CoalCraft · 29/08/2022 04:48

@PopGoesBang I've been using the vit D drops! I'm on a bit D supplement myself but apparently even so apparently breast milk contains only around half what baby needs and we definitely don't get enough sun 🙈

Not sure why you have to interrupt the feed though? I put the drop on the nipple before she latches on the first time. Worried I'm doing it wrong now!

Apparently you can also put the drop on a dummy or just a finger and let baby suck if that works better for you?

PopGoesBang · 30/08/2022 12:32

@CoalCraft I haven't got the one drop Vit d, it's 0.5ml and takes a few drops to get the whole dose in. Maybe I just need to put more on the nipple but it's a bit like a flood. 🙈 She's just getting used to a dummy so perhaps could look to use that too

PopGoesBang · 30/08/2022 12:37

And obviously now I know there's a one drop version I'll get that next time! So much easier 🤣

CoalCraft · 30/08/2022 12:47

@PopGoesBang Oh I see! Yeah that does sound a bit tricky. Definitely recommend the 1-drop one!

PopGoesBang · 30/08/2022 12:51

@CoalCraft realise my original post sounded like I did - I was just being lazy and not writing vitamin d, completely unaware there were in fact drops called Vit d and that they were 1 drop!
Dp brought back the well baby ones, so as soon as they are used (potentially from spitting all over me and what I'm wearing as I try and use the syringe 🤣) I know what to get!!

mamaof2girls · 30/08/2022 22:43

Can't believe my little man is a week old tomorrow already! X

LiMc1 · 31/08/2022 12:55

@PopGoesBang have you tried using a teet from a bottle and putting the vit d drop there to let baby suckle on before moving to breast? Or pop a nipple shield on and put it inside so that it's ready to go.
I'm expressing and using a bottle so just putting into the milk itself.
From what the midwife told me, we don't have enough vit D and it's the one vitamin we must use supplements for.

PopGoesBang · 31/08/2022 13:36

@LiMc1 good ideas. I'm expressing now and she'll have a bottle given that way each day and I'll pop the drops in that. Just needed to get enough expressed to give a bottle.
vitamin d doesn't get passed through breast milk, so that's why even if taking supplements ourselves babies still need their own. All makes perfect sense.

madeleine85 · 31/08/2022 16:19

Does anyone know how long it takes for a food causing the baby digestive issues to work it’s way through and out of a mums milk? I stupidly ate spicy Chinese broccoli and poor guy was up for hours yesterday in so much pain with gas. I have a whole new level of respect for mums with colic babies now. Fortunately I have excess frozen pumped milk but wondering how long is should dump the current stuff for? I last ate it at lunch yesterday.
