@madeleine85 a quick look at Google suggests 2-3 days 😕 quite how accurate this is though I'm not sure!
Aside from the gassy issues, how is little Luke getting on?

@Beth262 he’s been so great, minus the gas discomfort and adult sized farts… poor guy 😂. He’s a good wee sleeper though and just the sweetest little boy. How are you getting on with your little one?

how many do we have left to have their babies on this thread still? Hope we’re getting them all out soon!

Beth262 · 31/08/2022 20:24

So glad to hear he's a good sleeper for you @madeleine85 - that's half the battle!

My little one is doing well thank you. He's already up to 8lb 11oz in just 3 weeks (from 7lb 2oz) 😳 Had his referral accepted for his tongue tie today and an appointment set for 2 weeks time. It's making me wince thinking about the procedure but apparently he'll hardly feel it as the nerve endings just aren't really developed. Still though, I'm just 😬

So lovely to hear about your babies doing well! It's my due date today... no signs he's coming out although I did ask him if he would tomorrow so we'll see ;) I feel like I'm doing a lot of waiting around... not making plans and not going out, not having energy to do too much... bleuurghhh.

I have felt my cervix in the shower a few times recently and it's definitely getting softer and more open, but as it's my first that's not really an indication of whether I've got a few hours, days or weeks! No sign of the mucus plug - although I have done a few fanny farts! Which isn't normal for me so maybe that's a sign...

I've been testing all the old wive's tales... having sex, eating spicy food and pineapples, exercising, squatting... nothing yet.

Any other babies still on the inside?

madeleine85 · 31/08/2022 21:30

@Beth262 sorry to hear about the tongue tie, but hopefully he is eating ok until the op gets done. Fortunately he won't remember it, and it will make eating easier so hopefully it is a positive experience. Nothing worse than seeing your baby in pain though. We had so many blood draws in the hospital for blood sugars of our little guy and you just feel so bad when they are so small.

@Celyn22 you must have created a very comfy home for your little guy! Fingers crossed for you that he comes out willingly. Last time squats did the trick for me, this time it was a C section, but I tried harvesting colostrum before and that was setting off labour signs. Though i'm guessing he just really likes his little home in you x

beckybloomwood11 · 01/09/2022 10:06

@Celyn22 me!

Thought it was all kicking off this morning, ended up in triage as the pain was intense but was only 1cm so sent back home after having some painkillers. Managed to get some sleep but all has eased off now - so frustrating!

Isonthecase · 01/09/2022 10:12

Well September babies are nice too 😊
And it bears repeating, my most overdue baby was the easiest labour by quite a long way!!

Beth262 · 01/09/2022 11:43

@Celyn22 at least they'll be oldest in thier class now we're in September! Hope it all happens soon for you though x

@beckybloomwood11 and @Celyn22 I hope your babies arrive soon.

Has anyone had to deal with newborn constipation? He's not don't a poo since Monday? X

PopGoesBang · 02/09/2022 10:27

@mamaof2girls Not recently - I know dd1 ended up having lactulose when she was little - tho k she was a bit older than our babies now tho.
Massage and bicycle legs can help. Hope he poops soon and that when he does it's in stages and not too poonami-y!

ToCaden · 02/09/2022 15:51

@mamaof2girls yes! Dealing with it now. In fact in week 4 now, and weeks 4 and 5 are peak colicky / constipation / digestive fussiness weeks.

From four weeks you're able to give them a small amount of diluted prune juice (one ounce max a day in at least two ounces sterilized water).

If it's trapped wind related infacol can help.

Other than that it's bicycle legs, rub stomach in clockwise direction, rub lower back. When actively straining to poop can help them by holding baby's legs in squat position while clockwise rubbing stomach. Wiping their butt can also help stimulate things.

One useful thing I've learnt is babies get constipation because they're still so long, so try to incorrporate lots of daily movement such as tummy time, wiggling babies butt around, holding them upright. Will see if I can post a link to a useful vid.

@PopGoesBang @ToCaden thank yous he's only 10 days old but after commenting on her yesterday he finally managed to do a poo last night (well 3 dirty nappy's later) and he seems so much better today and had a better sleep last night so here is hoping it doesn't happen again! X

Beth262 · 03/09/2022 15:09

Anyone else have a suuuuuper hungry baby? Can't keep up with his demands on the boob and even after a bottle of formula he's still rooting for more 🤦‍♀️

squatternutbosh12 · 03/09/2022 18:28

Hello all! Sorry for total absence - been in a bit of a sleep deprived haze the past few weeks!
Has been nice to catch up on all your news and posts. Congratulations to everyone who’s now had their babies 🥰 to the last few still waiting - wishing you loads of luck!!
Rowan is now 4 weeks old and is definitely becoming his own little character which is lovely to see. He still doesn’t sleep at night and still having feeding difficulties but we’re getting there. In process of transitioning to bottles now as it’s not going well with boob despite all best efforts including tongue tie division. Have made my peace with it and am happy that he’ll thrive however I feed him.
I also won’t miss the painfully engorged boobs that spray milk literally everywhere at the drop of a hat 😂
He unfortunately has colic and gets a lot of pain with poos or leading up to poos, often settles down once he’s managed to squeeze one out. Infacol doesn’t help much. Anyone had much success with gripe water? His dad is prone to a dodgy tum as well though so maybe he’s just inherited difficult poo genes 🤣

Does anyone else have this weird sense of it still feeling like only 5 mins has past since baby arrived, but equally feels like they’ve always been here?!?

Also anyone who’s around 4 weeks out from c section- are you still having pain from it? I am still needing regular ibuprofen and paracetamol and it gets really bad if I don’t take it on time. I felt I was recovering really well around the 2 weeks post birth point but from week 3 it just seemed to go downhill again :( maybe I did too much too soon because it felt better. I’ve been doing less and hoping for the best but feel I should be further on than this in my recovery by now 😞

squatternutbosh12 · 03/09/2022 18:33

@Beth262 yes- he’s either asleep or hungry, those are his two settings 🤣

PopGoesBang · 03/09/2022 19:41

@Beth262 just said to DP I've fed her 90,000 times today and that's a good day!

@squatternutbosh12 I said to someone yesterday on one hand it flown and on the other it's feels like she always been here. Funny seeing you say the same.
Hope the sleep improves. Sounds like you're doing everything you can and hopefully the journey gets a little less bunny for you.

mamaof2girls · 03/09/2022 20:26

@squatternutbosh12 both my girls had colic and I swear by Dentinox colic drops to help. They both used them in there bottles and made them a lot better! X

Cakecakecheese · 03/09/2022 21:48

@squatternutbosh12 yes my son is 5 weeks and it feels like I've had him for ages but also like the birth was 5 minutes ago!

Beth262 · 03/09/2022 22:07

@squatternutbosh12 I think a transition to bottles may be on the cards for me too soon though I will miss the ease of breastfeeding at night and not having to get out of bed! I hope your little man improves on sleep soon.

@squatternutbosh12 @PopGoesBang and @Cakecakecheese I said the same to DP earlier today. Can't believe he's already 4 weeks old today, but at the same time it feels like he's been here so much longer! Time is a funny thing!

Does anyone else's little one turn into a noise machine at night? Can't decide if he's a train, dinosaur or some other extremely loud creature 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

squatternutbosh12 · 04/09/2022 03:59

@RP90 YES Jesus Christ he snuffles, snorts, shuffles, mumbles, rummages, wriggles, flaps his arms like he’s trying to take off, makes fart noises with his mouth (and actual farts with his bum), a strange sort of mewing sound like a kitten, sighs, squeaks and generally tries to ensure I haven’t forgotten he is there! Don’t worry baby I am well aware! 🤣

@mamaof2girls thanks I will try some of them!

@Beth262 yeah going downstairs to do a bottle is a faff, have you got a perfect prep machine? We’ve borrowed one from a friend and it’s a game changer

Isonthecase · 04/09/2022 04:36

@RP90 it's the grunting here. It's like having a piglet.

PopGoesBang · 04/09/2022 04:39

Oh good, everyone else has a nighttime noise machine too. Don't remember dd1 being like it. Definitely can't forget she's around at night!

ToCaden · 04/09/2022 04:48

@squatternutbosh12 around four weeks out from c section (coming up to five weeks). I have two areas on the wound that give me sharp pains when I move certain ways.

Stopped round the clock paracetamol and ibuprofen probably late week three or early week four. Still getting aches as well as the sharp pain, but way more managable than the first two plus weeks of agony.

I do find now I have more mobility I'm overdoing it, and even at nearly week five overdoing it is a five minute walk or even being on my feet too long. Or getting up and down to floor too often now we're doing tummy time. I had to get a different sling because the one I had was too painful to use.

If I had no choice but to be moderately active I'd definately still need to be on round the clock pain pills. As I thankfully spend much of my time sitting I'm finding I only need to take something most nights and some days if I've walked too much.

I think recovery varies a lot. I had quite an involved emergency c section. But those I've talked to whose babies stayed in long enough to have an elective all tended to have a much better experience and were off pain meds way faster. Keep getting well meaning suggestions to go for a walk with baby, etc, from those who don't seem to get the amount of agony that'll cause me later.

I've taken to just measuring progress against past me and taking note of improvements, and when pain flares tell me I've done too much too soon.
