@Gettissuesgotissues
Awh brill news! Glad you and baby are doing well! Do they still send round the midwife the day after discharge if you've been in a week or do they give you a bit of a longer period to relax with little one?

Due date day today and little one is still tucked up comfy although every time I stand it feels like my insides are going to fall out 👀😂 so many weird sensations!

PopGoesBang · 23/08/2022 19:01

Congrats to the newest arrivals and those that have made it home.

I have a baby that doesn't like sleep at night too. She also becomes really vocal at night. Glugging loudly, generally making sounds, will cry and sound like a peacock. All just night time treats!
Out of interest what time were the other non sleepers born? Dd was evening, and I think (trying to reason it out) her schedule has started with everything being active evening/first part of the night and she's not ready to change that yet. Sleeps amazingly from 5am-8am wonderful while on school holidays will be less helpful when school runs are back 🤣

Isonthecase · 23/08/2022 19:55

Glad it's not just me🤣 it's so bizarre, if he slept at night like he does in the day I'd be delighted!!

Beth262 · 23/08/2022 20:02

@Gem2811 yes, good luck with that 😂

@PopGoesBang Sorry, hate to blow your reasoning out the window but my baby was born at 5.18am 🙈

@Isonthecase Yep, me too! He does 3-4 hour stretches easy during the day 😭😂

Gem2811 · 23/08/2022 20:12

@PopGoesBang my wee one was a night time baby too I had wondered the same

PopGoesBang · 23/08/2022 20:18

@Beth262 Damn you! 🤣 I knew it was me just trying to make it feel like it was ok for an actual reason - I'll resort back to it's just dd2 torturing me!

@Isonthecase amazing day time we had several nights where night time was requiring feeding every hour. No, no, let's not do that!

I also need to get better at sleeping when she does - like now - and just get the sleep where I can.

There was an interesting morning the other day when I'd had maybe 90 minutes sleep all night, and it had been a run of bad sleep - Dp who had sleep thru most - but was back at work so I'd rather that (honestly) he phoned on break and started the call with 'I'm so tired today you wouldn't believe it' it was met with a curt uh huh and luckily he let the subject be changed without revisiting it 🤣

PopGoesBang · 23/08/2022 20:20

Ooo @Gem2811 maybe it is then, maybe it isn't just dd torturing me! 🤣 I'm reinstating the possible theory (sorry @Beth262 - 5.18 however could be seen as nighttime... I mean a lot don't want that to be morning...)

Beth262 · 23/08/2022 20:25

@PopGoesBang Fair enough! I'll be honest, I do tell DS1 it's still night when he comes into our room at that time wanting me to get up and go play cars 😂

OP posts:
PopGoesBang · 23/08/2022 20:27

@Beth262 oh I don't blame you! It's an unsocial time.
It's the time Dp gets up and takes the dog out before work! He best change his shifts before I need to start saying that isn't the time we get up too 🤣

madeleine85 · 23/08/2022 21:31

Our little guy so far is an ok sleeper (touch wood), he is 2 weeks now though and seems to be going through the cluster feeding/growth spurt which can happen around now. He is suddenly eating all the time, and up more than normal. Not that you could tell right now as he snoozes peacefully beside me. Our DD was a night owl, at this age, and if she woke up after 2am she would stay awake until 5-6am, which I remember being torture. I was utterly exhausted and I would often wake up next to her having drifted off while she was up. Things I tried that may have worked (although I suspect reaching 12 weeks was the key factor)...

  • white noise machine using water/air sound and ours lit up too, only use red/orange type colours. The blue/white ones will stop melatonin forming which is needed for sleep.

  • blackout blinds

  • Going for walks during the day in the sun (trying to let them distinguish day from night, but their circadian clock doesn't really set in till week 12 ish)

  • Doing the same routine every night starting as early as possible (bath, feed, bed)

  • I've read that putting them to sleep in their bed is best so they don't wake up and get scared due to a new location to where they fell asleep

  • Consider using a bottle to do the final feed so you know how much is in their tummy

  • Consider putting some formula in their final feed for the night, it takes longer to digest i've heard

  • Gripe water if it seems to be colic induced discomfort

Lord knows if any of it actually worked, but I was desparate and trying everything with my DD... my husband even called a night nurse around 6 weeks who basically laughed down the phone at him and told him to call back when the baby reached 12 weeks/14lbs or something around that level. Hope that you are all coping though, and that the last few babies of the group are making their entrances very soon. Today was original induction date, so it's weird that he is 2 weeks and more of a "real baby" now!

PopGoesBang · 24/08/2022 12:14

Some interesting points there @madeleine85 - especially about the light. I've wanted to get a different night lamp for night time so this might motivate me.

I survived the health visitors. Yes plural, I got two because one is new to the area and has to buddy up. I passed the quizzing it would seem. And they didn't ask to see where she sleeps and the dog didn't try and hump them so I'm taking it all as a win!

Beth262 · 24/08/2022 14:59

@PopGoesBang sounds like a highly successful visit!

madeleine85 · 24/08/2022 15:51

@PopGoesBang mental image of your dog trying to hump visitors was what I needed this morning for laughs 😂😂. Glad he left the health visitors legs alone!

PopGoesBang · 24/08/2022 15:55

@madeleine85 @Beth262 most successful but is the dog in this 🤣 he may not think so of course! @madeleine85 the worst bit was one of them sat on the floor - I was fearful it may be a back hump rather than leg 🙈 clearly he was on his best behaviour.

I've just been big and brave and gone to the local sling library and hired a sling for use with dd2. I've got one but she needs to be a bit bigger to use without the insert etc. all very successful and dd2 went in it like a dream. Can't wait for hands free cuddles and being able to be a little more productive too!

PopGoesBang · 24/08/2022 15:58

*bit not but. Really should re-read before posting!

Passthetena · 25/08/2022 05:16

Baby girl arrived on Monday! Bang on 39 weeks and I got my water birth ❤️. Holy fuck was it more intense than I expected! But the most empowering thing I've ever done. My first ended up with intervention after intervention so it was lovely to get the opposite this time.

Now we're tacking jaundice issues and blood issues but been there done that before so as far as we're concerned it's just newborn stuff. Hope everyone is getting on well with the new babas, they're so tiny and amazing (and apparently you forget that very quickly as they grow!)

Isonthecase · 25/08/2022 10:45

@Passthetena congratulations! Enjoy all the newborn snuggles, they are so very small 🥰

mamaof2girls · 25/08/2022 13:12

Well contractions started yesterday at 5am had a show around then aswell went to hospital just about 10/half 10 was 4cm dilated at half 11 and then by 1pm on the dot after shouting for the epidural just about to get it our baby boy decided he wasn't going to wait and was born! X

Celyn22 · 25/08/2022 13:24

@mamaof2girls wow! Congratulations! Bless you... sounds like your son was eager! Is he your third child? Sending blessings to you and your family xx

mamaof2girls · 25/08/2022 13:25

@Celyn22 yeah he is our 3rd and last child don't think I could do Labour again 😂😂 but we got home last night just over 6 hours after he was born! X

PopGoesBang · 25/08/2022 14:38

Congratulations @Passthetena sounds like you have it all in hand and I hope you're enjoying the snuggles in between getting things sorted.

@mamaof2girls Your little boy sounds like he wanted his entrance known! Glad he's here and you're home again, hope his big sisters are enjoying him.

AbiGoLucky · 25/08/2022 14:50

@Passthetena and @mamaof2girls congrats to you both on your new arrivals!!

I've been to the hospital this morning to check on the fluid around her and check her weight and now have a sweep booked for tomorrow and another on Tuesday - any advice on what to expect as all I've been told is it's uncomfortable and it may be difficult to reach as it's my first? 🙃 they've also booked an induction for the Wednesday in case the sweeps don't work.

Mufflette · 25/08/2022 16:39

Congratulations @Passthetena @mamaof2girls! Fingers crossed for more babies over the bank holiday weekend for those still waiting!

madeleine85 · 25/08/2022 17:21

@Mufflette snd@Passthetena congratulations!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Beth262 · 25/08/2022 18:06

Congratulations @Passthetena and @mamaof2girls 🥳

@AbiGoLucky it is uncomfortable but it doesn't last long. They usually stop if they can see you are in pain. They use thier finger to try and reach and iritate the cervix. I had 4 in total as the midwives couldn't reach my cervix it was so far back. Consultant did the 4th and baby was born just over 12 later. Good luck!
