@Gettissuesgotissues Oh that's great news! The empty ward sounds amazing. I had some noisy people on mine.

AbiGoLucky · 20/08/2022 23:19

@mamaof2girls Ugh, I get where you're coming from completely! little one should be due on the 23rd and had a day of contractions/tightenings yesterday which really seemed like things were going somewhere but then today there's been absolutely nothing so now I'm doubting every little feeling. I've had a surge of energy today so now feel like nothings happening again. Was originally supposed to be induced at 39 weeks but the consultant changed their mind during the last hosp visit and said to review at 40 weeks with a view to induce if needed (as was originally classed as high risk.) Id prefer to avoid induction if I can so was happy with the plan but I can see her not wanting to come out now and having to be induced anyway. The review should be booked for 25th so if they do want to induce I'm assuming it will be another scheduled appointment on a later date at the very end of August or early Sept which seems like a lifetime away. Just want to meet the little human that's been using my bladder as a trampoline haha!!

Beth262 · 21/08/2022 12:35

Thanks @PopGoesBang and @ToCaden reassuring to hear I'm not alone with the pain and leaking. I didnt have it first time around!

And @PopGoesBang Glad I'm not the only oddball too 🤪

PopGoesBang · 21/08/2022 12:46

@Beth262 glad I was reassuring 🤣🤪

I have the HV visit this week, it's Wednesday, queue Tuesday being a housework day. Just said to dp be prepared for housework Tuesday evening. I'm totally going with home is home and I'm not fussed, but I do know me and know it will worry me and I'll start faffing!

I've got period like cramps today. Despite bf eldest dd my period returned around 4 weeks with her, I'm wondering if I'm in for the same delight this time. Apart from when pregnant my period seems to show up no matter what contraception I'm on - and despite bf and hearing all the 'didn't return for a year' stories - I'm just not that lucky.

Beth262 · 21/08/2022 13:07

@PopGoesBang Ahh hopefully she'll be really nice. I know what you mean about the cleaning though - Take me as I am but at the same time, that me will still be making sure there's minimal for you to judge me on 😂

That's rubbish on the period front if it is what it comes to. One of the benefits of BF is the joy of no period usually ☹️

How are you all doing in your household? We attempted a day out at a local country park yesterday and it was quite the adjustment as a family of 4 and the dog!

PopGoesBang · 21/08/2022 13:17

@Beth262 Absolutely agree. Not helped currently that downstairs (apart from the front room) and the stairs are bare floorboards - not nicely sanded. Definitely the look of 'hmmm what happened to the flooring and how long are they going to look like this' can't make them look less grubby either - I've tried, they are clean but still look, well, old and gappy 🤣

Getting all out together is a challenge. I'd forgotten how much a newborn needs! And the time juggle of if we don't go now she'll want a feed so we need to go. We did a day out at a local theme park before dp went back to work, and last week was just me and both girls. Thankfully the dog seems pretty chill with the new addition and despite being scared of everything walks nicely alongside the pushchair, which means getting out for walks isn't as much of a challenge as I thought!

I do know I need to get a lighter weight sling for dd, she likes to be close and I need hands to be able to get things done - we've got a Tula standard but needing the insert and the warmer weather (Altho that's fading fast) I think both dd and I will be too hot. It'll be perfect for big dog walks as the cooler weather comes in and when we don't need the insert.
Hoping to get to the local sling library in the week and hire one for now.

Hope you enjoyed the majority of yesterday. I'm guessing these things get easier!!

Beth262 · 21/08/2022 13:46

How have you found the first week being just you and the girls? My DP goes back to work tomorrow and I'm a bit apprehensive about managing all day so any tips you've worked out this first week will be much appreciated! Haha. My dog, also not interested one bit in the new addition. He's not a bird trespassing in her garden so just ignores him completely 😂

I've never heard of a sling library - that sounds such a good idea. Will have to Google and see if there's one near me. We've got a flamingo wrap which is great for doing things about the house. It can be a little warm but yesterday he was in it in just a long sleeve vest (but as you say, days are cooling fast!) and then a little life backpack type one for when he's a bit older. We used the little life loads with DS1 and was a really good investment.

@Beth262 I think I'm quite lucky dd1 is 9, so pretty independent and amazing at fetch 🤣 it's amazing how many things I leave in other rooms.
I have tried to make sure whatever we do she has some time to focus (as much as we can) on something for her. I've also made sure I have some craft boxes/smaller activities tucked away to whip out and occupy her if I need to focus on dd2. I otherwise found it can become 'mum look at this' or the 20 questions game or the I'll do something I know I'm not supposed to. And i'm too tired for that and occupying her is easier!
I know friends with younger dc have made a box of things for the older one to play with only during feeding/changing times so they get a focus and something to look forward to.

Lunches have been whatever I can grab while dd2 is sleeping or one handed - I'd win no prizes for those last week 🤣 pick your battles right?!

I'm sure some of the other ladies will have good advice for balancing things. I definitely set my expectations low - one day I didn't get dressed until 4pm because the day was not playing ball - but that's ok. Other days we were up and functioning nicely by a reasonable time.

The sling library and reusable nappy ground are amazing. I popped along before dd2 arrived and checked it out and just haven't made it back yet. They have a fb page - if you're on fb it might be worth searching in there and seeing if anything local to you. They have their own room at a local school and some baby groups use the room on other days so it's a nice little hub.
I didn't do many things like that with dd1 - my situation was very different back then, but it's something I'm looking forward to this time.

Hello all, sorry for going completely AWOL, I’ve been in the wonderful newborn bubble for the last 2 weeks! Our gorgeous little rainbow boy was born on the 8th, after a weekend of trying all the moves on the birth ball, spicy curries and a lovely foot rub from DP with some DIY reflexology thrown in. I went into spontaneous labour at 3am, went in for a check at 7am and was 2cm. Was sent home to return when more established, waters went around 11am and we returned to the labour ward at midday, and I was 8cm! Managed to get into the pool which was lovely. Had a frightening moment after babies head was born, his cord prolapsed and was being crushed against his chest and the birth canal. I had to deliver him very quickly and the crash team were called, it was one of the scariest moments of my life. Thankfully baby was just really shocked and came to eventually, we then discovered he also had a true knot in his cord too. A very lucky boy indeed.

Congratulations to all the new mums on the thread, and keep strong those who are still waiting to meet their little miracles!

ToCaden · 21/08/2022 20:32

@SantiagoSister congrats on your little boy.

Question guys. My boy will be three weeks tomorrow and demonstrated repeatedly today rolling over from back to side. Is that normal? Did a google and mostly just rolling from tummy to back comes up, which happens a lot later than three weeks.

He does have amazing core stretch from beating up my insides. His kicks hurt almost as much outside the body as they did inside, and he's grabbed and pulled at hands hard enough you need to put effort into breaking free. Plus he's been shakily holding up his head since a few days old and wibbly wobbly neck coordination improving all the time.

I really need to stop googling to see if things he does are normal, as of course words like early rolling over may point to issues came up, but hard not to do so when he suprises me like this.

Mufflette · 22/08/2022 02:35

Cong @SantiagoSister! And hoping things move quickly for everyone still waiting.

@ToCaden mine rolled over on to his front for the first time at one week! Lots of rolling on to his side here too. I've mentioned it to both health visitor and midwife as I was worried about what happens if he does it while we're asleep and neither were concerned. They have said how strong his legs are though and he's also definitely got some head control going on so hopefully we've just got freakishly strong babies!

ToCaden · 22/08/2022 02:44

@Mufflette thanks for the reassurance. Hoping for that too. He's borderline colicky at the moment, and eating away at my sleep, so nice to hear something potentially positive.

madeleine85 · 22/08/2022 03:32

@SantiagoSister congratulations !! 🌈 🎉

@ToCaden our little one is 2 weeks old And has been a side sleeper since we came home. He’s very feisty, finds his hands, tries to roll and belly crawl. Clearly didn’t enjoy the 8 months of captivity with no fluid to turn, so getting it in now 😂.

madeleine85 · 22/08/2022 03:33

Wonder if the steroids at 32 weeks made me a mini hulk baby 😂

mamaof2girls · 22/08/2022 10:38

@SantiagoSister congratulations on your little boy.

4 days till due date hopefully we don't go over like 🙈 x

RP90 · 22/08/2022 11:28

We have a baby 💙!! Baby Xander was born yesterday at 9.15pm.

We had a planned induction at 39+2. Had my waters broken at 12 and things cranked up pretty fast. Did not expect contracts to hurt like they did! Such a different experience from my section with DS1, which was still positive I will say.

Our bodies are truly amazing. We've got this mummas 🥰

madeleine85 · 22/08/2022 16:20

@RP90 congratulations!! And also congrats to anyone else who had their little one over the weekend ❤️❤️❤️

ToCaden · 22/08/2022 17:48

@RP90 congrats!!!

AbiGoLucky · 22/08/2022 21:59

@RP90 Congrats on your little one!

Gettissuesgotissues · 23/08/2022 11:06

@RP90 congrats!

We're finally home after a week in hospital. It sucked, but happy to have a healthy baby in my arms. I hope those of you still waiting aren't waiting for long.

Beth262 · 23/08/2022 11:22

Congratulations @RP90 🥳

Lovely news @RP90 😊

Anyone else got a baby who just will not sleep at night? Great napper during the day but night time rolls around and he's a blooming Jack in the box.

Gem2811 · 23/08/2022 15:39

@Isonthecase I feel your pain my wee one is the same although she's good as gold all day gets to about 9pm and screams holy murder for a good couple of hours before giving in to sleep

Beth262 · 23/08/2022 16:53

@Isonthecase Yep, have 1 here too 🙋‍♀️ doesn't scream like yours though @Gem2811 so you have my every sympathy there!
