Is anyone expressing in between feeds? My breasts feel so full and I don't think baby is draining them fully, concerned about mastitis but don't want to make too much milk either

GinnyBee · 21/05/2022 16:02

@Bubbasmama2017 I did for a day when I felt full and uncomfortable but then they fullness sorted itself and haven’t done since.

YfenniChristie · 21/05/2022 18:39

Congratulations everyone on their new arrivals!

@Bubbasmama2017 I've been expressing after most feeds and during the feeds when we give DS formula. I'm mainly doing it to up my milk supply.

Odd question; how is everyone's bleeding postbirth? I'm 14 days post-birth and mine was starting to tail off until today when I had a sudden gush. I've been on the phone to Obstetrics who have said it sounds normal (I'm breastfeeding, been sat for too long, plus upping my activity levels) but to keep an eye on it. I'm just curious as to what everyone else's experiences are.

Bubbasmama2017 · 21/05/2022 19:47

@YfenniChristie I'm only day 5 but it's really tailing off I havent filled a pad the last couple of days but I've been changing them every few hours anyway and using the spritz your bits spray on the pads to ease pain a bit too. Feeling much more comfortable today although I've found the nights the worst for feeling like the stitches are tight maybe just how I sit to feed in bed.
. I was expecting to have bad after pains but they went after a day.

EastMidsGem · 21/05/2022 21:50

@YfenniChristie mine was fairly light after 2-3 days but then heavier when I express. A couple of days ago it started to come heavier like a normal period but I am just over 3 weeks after the birth now so I'm guessing that's what it is.

Anyone else not breast feeding but struggling to express as much as they wanted? Don't know if I should express more often but I do it 4 times a day and spend an hour doing it each time. I get progressively less as the day goes on and I never really get the sensation of "full" breasts like people say ☹️

Bubbasmama2017 · 21/05/2022 22:02

@EastMidsGem a friend of mine was exclusively pumping and found she got the most out during the early hours of the morning

GinnyBee · 21/05/2022 22:52

@YfenniChristie this is probably different and not helpful since I had a c-section but my bleeding lasted 3 days, and in those three days I had two gushes and a bit of spotting in between. I now have loads of mat pads left over as I was prepared for it to last weeks!

YfenniChristie · 21/05/2022 23:42

@GinnyBee That's actually really interesting as I'm a c-section too! I thought it would be a lot shorter, but it's still going (though it is light/spotting at this stage - apart from earlier gush).

EastMidsGem · 22/05/2022 00:28

@Bubbasmama2017 thank you - I do find I get the most on my first one of the day but maybe I should try early hours.

I was also c-section but I was aware that one of my friends bled for several weeks after each of her c-sections so I think it varies person to person x

Is anyone else on this thread still waiting for bub to arrive? I think I'm going a little bit barmy now with impatience!

Kudos to all you new mummies. You're doing amazing xx

I’m still waiting over here and I’m starting to feel like I’ll just be enormously pregnant forever!
When’s your due date?

I’m 39+5 and the last one from my NCT class to go into labour. I haven’t had any signs things are moving along yet either!

I was originally told I’d need to be induced around 38 weeks because of low Papp-a, but the consultant has been too busy for an appointment so here I am.

Also baby was engaged on the left a few weeks back, then she disengaged and moved to the right. Now I’m convinced she’s back to back 😫 Little scamp.

Bubbasmama2017 · 23/05/2022 08:07

@Sarah239 @Honeymint thinking of you and anyone else waiting for their babies to arrive. It's such a frustrating time and everyone you speak to wants an update on when the baby is coming!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 23/05/2022 08:19

@Sarah239 and @Honeymint, thinking of you and hope baby decides to join us soon!!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 23/05/2022 08:26

@YfenniChristie, I'm 4 weeks PP and it varies. It's definitely more after activity or getting up from time reclining, but there are also just days where its more than others. Some days nearly nothing and other days it's steady. I'm down to pantyliners, but I change them every visit to the loo. The big pads were uncomfortable and there wasn't enough to justify using them. The blood is still in that watery pinkish stage for me, which I thought would be finished by now. 😕 However, there were complications with my birth which meant I have a much larger placental wound than most women, so maybe that's what's up.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 23/05/2022 08:30

@Bubbasmama2017, I too fear that I'm not draining them enough. I'm going to start pumping after feeds today. Baby boy was cluster feeding last week, which was VERY effective in increasing my supply, but then the past two days has been having smaller feeds!!

I don't want supply to drop as i think he'll be needing it still, and I'm afraid of clogs!

MissM94 · 23/05/2022 08:46

Im 9 days post birth and my periods suddenly got heavier and painful! Had no pain before today but I'm in a bit of pain this morning, I never even had painful periods before pregnancy 😂

Sarah239 · 23/05/2022 09:09

Thank you @Bubbasmama2017 and @aNewYorkerInLondon

@Honeymint I am 41+0 today, no signs as of yet! The waiting is harder mentally than I thought it would be.

Fingers crossed we are not waiting too much longer!

Zibidee · 23/05/2022 15:47

Finally my turn! This is Benji, he took 4 days of induction to arrive, 2 pessaries which only got me to 1cm in 60hrs! then the drip got me to 10cm in 7hrs and finally came with ventouse delivery as he was coming sideways, episiotomy which tore further, and eventually after 1.5hrs pushing, with his hand by his face!, Superman style!
Since then we've been in hospital, me with my very bad episiotomy stitches, but much worse, Benji with jaundice and an infection they thought might be meningitis! But now day 4 after birth, his results have all improved and we should be able to go home on Wednesday!

Bubbasmama2017 · 23/05/2022 18:12

@Zibidee wow sounds like you've had quite an ordeal hope you get home Wednesday and can continue to recover quickly at home.
My stitches feel ok but I've got quite a large swelling which makes some seats uncomfortable :-( hoping it won't last too much longer ( day 6 pp)

YummyMummyXoX · 23/05/2022 20:33

Congratulations @Zibidee he's beaut and well done for all the hard work x

JMill13 · 24/05/2022 06:39

congrats @Zibidee he is beautiful.
I hope you both recover quickly and get home soon 💙

EastMidsGem · 24/05/2022 08:33

Congratulations @Zibidee he is absolutely gorgeous and love the name choice - how you're both home and recovering soon xx

GinnyBee · 24/05/2022 09:44

Congratulations @Zibidee ! And welcome to little Benji 🥰

So I think I’ve sussed out why baby boy doesn’t settle at night. He seems to be getting really windy and as soon as I lie him down he starts spitting up and gurgling, wriggling uncomfortably and getting generally just frustrated about it. When I pick him up it stops immediately, so I think being upright is helping. I don’t know what to do about it though 😩 I burp him and rock him and try to get as much of the gas out as I can but he always starts it again as soon as I try to put him down again. We did this routine from 10pm until 2.30am last night when I then handed over to my husband who carried on and eventually propped him up with a pillow under the bedsheets and then he slept. Tonight I’m going to try to put something under the cot mattress to prop him up. Pray for me and my sanity 🙏

Bubbasmama2017 · 24/05/2022 11:35

@GinnyBee my older DD was like that and we put gripe water and infacol in her bottles which helped but we're not really using bottles yet as I'm only able to pump a very small amount. I'm finding similar with this baby girl she seems to need a huge burp then she'll settle but otherwise is quite sicky(posseting) and spluttering

aNewYorkerInLondon · 26/05/2022 14:51

Just saw an advertisement for a show on BBC called "My Name Is Leon" and I'm bawling. Anyone else having crazy PP hormones?
