Thanks @Zibidee I can't fault the consultant, she was really good with explaining everything and answering mine and DH's questions. It was just a lot of information to deal with at the time and I'm still processing it.

I had a cannula fitted "just in case" when I was admitted for 24hr observation for my blood pressure. It was...fine, better than expected, but was awkward due to having it fitted to my inner right elbow and I'm right handed. So it was a faff doing anything. I don't like the thought of being restricted so epidurals and catheters just sound like my idea of hell.

I'm a bit worried about "losing my head" especially as DH can't be with me while I'm being induced (but can be with me during active labour and visitor hours).

Zibidee · 01/05/2022 16:26

@YfenniChristie I totally get the fear of being restricted. That's why I've put no epidural in my birth plan and desperately hoping I don't have to be hooked up to glucose/insulin drip for GD and then if pessary and waters broken doesn't work, I'm opting for cesarean, the drip sounds horrendous and will also tie me up!

WildButterfly · 01/05/2022 18:00

Thank you, @JMill13! Thing is I don’t have a date for mine yet, last info I got was that they should book me in on the week starting on the 9th, which is when I’ll be 38+3, if not longer. I guess it will be what will be now, I have my weekly BP check at the hospital on Tuesday so will ask again.

Fingers crossed it all goes well for you! I doubt anyone would be upset if baby came early, my first decided to make an appearance on New Year’s Eve, at 34 weeks. Changed everyone’s plans and she’s been bossy and getting her own way ever since!

JMill13 · 01/05/2022 18:00

@YfenniChristie 100% get your fear. I was the same last time round. I had planned a midwifery led water birth, my worst nightmare was epidural, drugs, IVs, machines etc. It all went to shit and I ended up with all of those in an emergency section at 38 weeks before I'd even started to labour, I hated not being able to move/do anything but honestly once you meet the little all thoughts of everything else goes out the window and all you think about is them. Hope it all works out and you don't need any of those things

JMill13 · 01/05/2022 18:20

@WildButterfly ah, maybe they'll book it when you're in on Tuesday? Or maybe they'll just do it while you're in there getting your BP checked? That's when they always do mine. BP check every 2 weeks and a growth scan.

WildButterfly · 01/05/2022 18:37

@JMill13 No.. I’m having weekly BP checks at the maternity day unit, when they monitor the baby at the same time, heartbeat, movements and BH, but that’s because of my hypertension. The consultant ordered the additional growth scan over two weeks ago, they just didn’t have a date available for it yet when I asked at the scan reception last week. They could see the request, but no date
booked, so they gave me that random week of the 9th prediction. My appointment letters usually arrive late, so I’ll check at the scan reception again on Tuesday and see what they say.

Kittycaz · 01/05/2022 18:37

@rainbowplease welcome to the group 😊

@YummyMummyXoX has your bump started to go down after giving birth? Im not sure how long it takes. Weve got in Park near us a jubilee event and wondered if my bump may have gone down enough after birth to wear a summery dress and take my LO for his first day out.

@Bubbasmama2017 I've had my boys name chosen since 16 weeks and call him it everyday so if someone ends up calling there kid same name it wouldn't bother me to much as to me my LO is that name if that makes sense. I couldn't call him anything else. I've even knitted him a personalised blanket that's in my hospital bag.

YummyMummyXoX · 01/05/2022 19:04

@YfenniChristie I literally feel like I could've written this I was stressing so much about being induced NOT getting my epidural, not experiencing natural birth having to have an emergency section so many unknowns and variables that were out of my control. And coming out the other side I didn't get my epi but I'm actually glad I got to feel everything, I'd do it again tomorrow. Like you I was very chilled up until about 35ish weeks it must have been instinct that something was going to happen early. Our bags have been in the car from about 34 weeks.
I had a catheter overnight asked them to remove as didn't feel I needed it and I was right I didn't. Best thing you can do is get prepared to try and advocate for yourself or someone you trust to do it for you when you become vulnerable. My partner was amazing and luckily my midwives and doctors were very caring. Between them they advocated for me and I honestly believe prevented me from going to theatre for an emergency section because in my notes I expressed how much I didn't want one if it wasn't paramount. I also said I don't want an episiotomy under any circumstance, I now have the smallest most superficial tear that's healing well.
No matter what as long as your baby is here soon and your both healthy, things will happen the way they're suppose to ♥️
Apologies for these long emotional posts! I'm emotional today 😂 x

YummyMummyXoX · 01/05/2022 19:08

Welcome new ladies

@Kittycaz it has started to go down it's taken it's old shape, very soft and not too bad everyone is being so kind and saying how well I look. I'm back in my jeans and stuff, not wearing my tight summer dresses and body tops yet but I am wearing control pants everyday and it's really helping I got them on as soon as I got home as I forgot them in my hospital bag . Xx

Kittycaz · 01/05/2022 21:50

@YummyMummyXoX like tummy control knickers? I've got a few pairs so will put them on when recovering at home. Am looking forward to my LO arriving but also to have my body back. Might give me more confidence lately I dress like a scruff as nothing fits and there's not much point buying anything maternity related at this stage x

OP posts:
YummyMummyXoX · 01/05/2022 22:19

@Kittycaz same here felt quite scruffy and not my usual self didn't have the energy to look how I wanted to look. Yes tummy control they need to be firm enough to hold you in but comfy too xx

Lavendersblue42 · 02/05/2022 06:01

So exciting the babies are starting to arrive now! I’m not due til the 31st, DD was 10 days early and have to keep reminding myself theres no guarantee this one will be early aswell! Got growth scan tomorrow, phone call follow up with consultant the week after. Not seen my midwife since 28 weeks and struggling to get hold of her to make my next appointment so fingers crossed everything is ok

fejkalove · 02/05/2022 07:39

Morning all - congratulations to all those who have arrived safely already, so lovely to hear the news!

Baby girl arrived on Friday at 36+4 weighing 4lb 11oz. They dropped the drape as my uterus was contracting and delivering her, it was magical to see - she cried as she was being born, passed all her blood sugars and just required a little help with the hot cot to maintain her temperature. I'm so overwhelmed with love, she's perfect. We're still in hospital as she was early they require us to stay 3 days - being weighed today and having a jaundice check so fingers crossed for home where big sister can't wait for her!

@WildButterfly mad that they just don't have appointments/give them when they're ordered! Still baffles me how different every trust / hospital seem to be.

Oh my @fejkalove look at that wee face. Congratulations and glad all is well. Fingers crossed for jaundice check being all clear and yous get home soon 💜

YummyMummyXoX · 02/05/2022 08:16

Awww @fejkalove she's lovely! Congratulations what time on Friday was she born?
I was 36+4 too I'm glad you are both ok hope jaundice check is fine Emorie has jaundice but the levels aren't high enough to need treatment, DS had it too and was fine. Let us know how you guys get on xx

Bubbasmama2017 · 02/05/2022 08:24

@fejkalove congratulations she's gorgeous!

Sarah239 · 02/05/2022 08:50

Congratulations @fejkalove How did you find it all in the end as I know you were very nervous? I hope you are doing ok, take care xx Little one is gorgeous.

38 weeks today. I tried getting some colostrum out during my shower but didn't get any out. It was funny though, it seemed like I got little bumps in my nipples like they were filling up with something after squeezing, then they went back down?!? Is that like others? I was wary of squeezing too hard so was pretty gentle. I did think maybe id got one drop out but because it was mixed with shower water I couldn't really tell. I just wanted to see if any appeared before trying to actually harvest.

I don't feel like I'm getting any signs. All the movements I'm feeling are her bum/feet in my ribs and I can't feel any pressure from her head at all, not getting lightning crotch or anything like that. Just trying to remind myself it's only just May and still early days (my EDD is 16th May so two weeks today). I think seeing other little ones arriving has given me a bit of a false sense that she's coming soon, but that may not be the case at all! Just trying to chill and enjoy the free time.

Happy Bank Holiday everyone!!

Honeymint · 02/05/2022 08:57

Congratulations @fejkalove !! She’s gorgeous! I hope you’re both doing alright. How are you finding the hospital stay?

It’s been so exciting seeing everyone’s babies start to show up. @rainbowplease @Jowd92 I’m also due at the end of May on the 25th/26th (the hospital and midwife unit can’t agree) and I’m getting so impatient and uncomfortable!

I have to wait until next week for my 38 week scan and it seems so far away. At the last one the centile dropped a little so I’m quite anxious about it.

@YummyMummyXoX
I’m glad you’re both doing so well! Hearing about all your struggles but then seeing how well it turned out for you has made me feel so optimistic about the whole thing.

Kittycaz · 02/05/2022 09:07

@fejkalove aww she's beautiful congratulations.

@Sarah239 my boobs do feel lumpy underneath ever since I started colostrum harvesting I've also noticed I've got skin tags around my aerola but after googling apparently it's normal. I'm not doing any more harvesting now I have 20 syringes full and running out of space in freezer for food 😂

@YummyMummyXoX thats exactly how I feel I mean I never dressed over board at the beginning but I do like wearing a pretty dress every so often and like to do my hair and a bit of make up to make me look less like a zombie. I've got some tummy control knickers from primark so will wear those.

I wonder if any of us will have our LO's on star wars day my DH wants ours to as he's a massive star wars fan.

@Kittycaz oh goodness I hope not 😅 Keeping my legs crossed on Wednesday now for that reason, haha.

GinnyBee · 02/05/2022 09:33

Congratulations @fejkalove ! She's gorgeous 🥰

Gosh, last full week without baba just started! I can't believe next Tuesday I'll be heading to the hospital to have him 😬

Re: cannula. This is actually the thing I'm most nervous about! I know it probably seems crazy that I've opted to be cut open and am now worrying about a little needle in my hand, but I just HATE having them put in! It never goes well for me, it always hurts a lot and then I tend to faint. I have my pre-op this Saturday and am going to mention that I want it to be done super gently and by someone experienced. I'm absolutely fine with all other needles, getting blood work done has never been an issue and I used to donate regularly too before all the pregnancies, when I had blood thinning injections that was no trouble at all, I'm fine doing finger prick tests on myself... just cannulas give me such fear!

@Sarah239 I'm only getting tiny droplets. Yesterday I had two sessions and only got 0.4ml total so it is just tiny amounts and sometimes hard to see, especially if you were in the shower I can imagine it getting washed away before you even notice.

YfenniChristie · 02/05/2022 09:45

Congratulations @fejkalove! She's gorgeous!

Thank you everyone for yesterday. I'm feeling a lot better and more confident this morning. DH knows my preferences so I'm confident he'll stick up for me - or least take on the information and get everyone to give us 5mins to discuss what we want to do. I like to be prepared, I like to know exactly what to expect, and the fact I've never done this before and experiences are so varied are throwing me completely 😅

WildButterfly · 02/05/2022 12:17

@fejkalove How adorable, congratulations! 🥰

@JMill13 I know right… I’ve felt like I’ve been one step behind through the whole pregnancy, all my appointments are delayed for one reason or another and I couldn’t have one of the screening scans because of it. There are a few hospitals in my area and I did Google the best rated one, so imagine what it could have been like!

Started feeling niggling period like pains and burning lower back pain last night, accompanied by some bump tightening. Poor DH rushed to pack his bag as it was the only one missing. It went on and off through the night and I had a very uncomfortable sleep, felt like her head was very engaged and low, but it stopped this morning and I feel “normal”. Who knows what it could be, and if it will come back. I have an appointment tomorrow so hopefully they’ll be able to tell me if it was just BH.

I hope you’re all enjoying a relaxing bank holiday!

YummyMummyXoX · 02/05/2022 16:13

@Honeymint thank you I honestly think things will go better for the 'higher risk' labours than we anticipate, I'm feeling very positive and sending good energies for everyone on the group.

@Kittycaz I have literally picked some up from primark this aft while the boys were at an adventure park! I got a sz small but I'm a medium 😂 really contemplating going to the gym but nobody to watch the baby when OH goes back to work x

JMill13 · 03/05/2022 12:08

Hi all

Not long back from the hospital after the "final" growth scan.
Section date has now been moved forward so I'll be meeting bubba girl on Tuesday next week all being well. The US showed what looks like another drop in growth on the chart so they wanted to book me in sooner. Bit gutted as was loving that her birthday was going to be Friday the 13th but I'm excited to meet her and just glad she's okay.

Hope you're all okay today x
