Just wanted to say hello to our newbies! 👋🏼 This thread moves soooo fast. I can’t keep up!

Prema112 · 09/04/2022 06:53

@pregnancydiaries I had some cramping last night too, I was just starting to worry about going to triage at a strange hospital as I'm away atm when they stopped, phew! Had 5 or 6 pretty strong contraction like cramps though 😬 We're driving home today which I have to say I'm very relieved about, like many of us my hips are very sore sleeping on harder beds than I'm used to, can't wait to get back to my soft soft mattress

Vimto1991 · 09/04/2022 07:03

@t0nim92 welcome to the group! Sorry to hear pregnancy has not gone well for you so far but almost at that final stretch! You still have plenty of time to buy things! I’m 21 days ahead of you and still need basic baby things. 🙈🙈

Iwantmorelindtlindorx · 09/04/2022 09:28

Hi everyone x
I've been following this thread since it began but this is my first comment. I must be shy 😂
My due date is the 4th June.
Would you believe this is my 3rd baby and I still have no idea how to recognize when I'm in labour!!
I'm quite worried about it now...we live in an isolated area with no close family/friends around so I've planned a home birth. Hoping the midwife is here quickly enough
I don't want my other children to witness or hear anything that alarms them but I also don't fancy giving birth in the car on the way to the hospital! X

Flowerbug1994 · 09/04/2022 09:48

Anyone else been teary around 31 weeks !! I woke up fine laid in bed for a while then got up to work (getting the overtime in) and all of a sudden the last hour I have sobbed !!! I really do not know what am crying for but it’s like uncontrollable nose dripping crying !!! What the f**k is wrong with me 😭😭😭😭

Vimto1991 · 09/04/2022 10:21

@Iwantmorelindtlindorx welcome to the group! I guess every labour is different to do hard to gauge, I am sure your midwife will be there on time, though. Are you having a child minder for your kids or is your house big enough they wouldn’t hear? I suppose you can always tell them it’s… happy screams? 😅

@Flowerbug1994 I cried so hard last night cause I was uncomfortable. I had lightning crotch, itched down there, went for a walk and my hip hurt, I was tired and I felt sick but was trying to help DH make dinner (he told me to sit down) so I just blubbed 🤷‍♀️ It was the only thing that felt right 😂 definitely think our hormones are raging right now!!

Flowerbug1994 · 09/04/2022 10:32

@Vimto1991 I am just so sad today I don’t know why I feel like I’ve got a knot in my stomach and can’t shake this horrible feeling. These hormones are a nightmare I’ve have never been this teary my whole pregnancy. I can feel this little breech baby of mind currently standing and kicking my hip and I just can’t wait for June until he’s here and these hormones go back to normal xxx

Vimto1991 · 09/04/2022 10:37

@Flowerbug1994 I have been pre warned the weeks after giving birth there is a crash of hormones, so we need to be prepared to either feel mega low or just drained, but I agree, I’m getting to the point I just want baby healthy and happy in my arms and for me to be comfortable and maybe be able to lie on my back and drink some coffee. 😂

Iwantmorelindtlindorx · 09/04/2022 11:01

Thank you 😊
I'm not sure what to do regarding kids, hoping my DH can watch them while the midwife is here!
With my first son I had an unplanned home birth because it all came on very quickly, felt in too much pain to go in the car and ambulance took 2 hours to arrive! My DH and mother delivered my first born.
My births have been very quick though
DC1 was 2.5 hours and DC2 was just over an hour! Felt absolutely fine then it all kicked in at once!
I'm definitely more nervous this time than I've ever been. I'm a control freak, I dislike the unpredictably of it all! Grin
The kids would definitely hear, I can hear my neighbours putting their microwave on lol x

aus12 · 09/04/2022 13:24

@Littlemilomoo another thing to suggest for your dh, baby wipes! Mine couldn’t have a shower till the stitches came out 2wks later so he was the test dummy for different type of baby wipes haha the lidl ones are really good, much better than the Sainsbury’s own brand ones

Flowerbug1994 · 09/04/2022 13:35

@Vimto1991 I’ll get the tissues ready and tell no one to look at me for at least a week 😂😂 I feel abit better after 2 hours of crying I’ve have myself a terrible headache though 😂😂😂

Rolledthedice · 09/04/2022 15:03

@Flowerbug1994 don’t worry I’ve been exactly the same this week! And I’m not a cryer / hardly ever feel teary! But I was in such a state on Thursday after an early morning tel booking appt (am transferring trusts), that I sent myself into a panic attack and had to breathe into a bag to calm down! I have to assume that we are all feeling overwhelmed with the hormone changes and shit getting real. 😅

Octoblockisadick · 09/04/2022 16:14

@Flowerbug1994 oh god yes, all the tears here haha.
But yeah the hormone crash after birth is pretty intense so don't worry if you feel rough!!
I also went on the mini pill after my daughter because you cant breastfeed on the combined and that made my mood awful too. Felt like a weight had been lifted when I stopped taking it tbh, I definitely won't be taking it this time

Octoblockisadick · 09/04/2022 22:31

If anyone is planning on trying raspberry leaf tea I got these off amazon today. 120 teabags for a tenner so will do until baby comes :)

Can you drink it anytime, @Octoblockisadick?

pregnancydiaries · 10/04/2022 07:48

Went for a 4d scan yesterday at 29+4 and mainly just got to see little ones foot, right up at his face 😂 how that is comfortable I'll never know!!!

@pregnancydiaries, that is such a cute picture!

@RoseValleyRambles, I will miss that feeling, too. I am so pleased we have thus far made it so far in our pregnancies. I understand you are also prepping for a C-section? We will likely ask for one, too.

We went to John Lewis yesterday to get informed about stuff. This is our first baby and with the antenatal stuff being so intense (I had four appointments this week alone, and then have to dip in my spare time to ensure I still meet my work deadlines), we have had no time and opportunity yet to figure anything practical out.

We arrived to find the dept's only employee schooling an entire family (parents, kids, gran) on car seats. We looked at the rows of seats, outfits, baby carrying devices, etc., threw a panicked look at each other, and turned around again. We have now asked SIL if she can come along with us in a couple of weeks, as we have no clue of the benefits of one thing over the next, and neither the time nor emotional or mind space to do this either. Meanwhile, she is a walking baby encyclopedia, so hopefully this will make things easier.

I'm trying it this time. It's the only thing I didn't do last time. Wether it works or not who knows 😂. But I am desperate not to go 15 days over again 😫. I'm having 1 a day already, will up it to 2 at 34 weeks etc.
Jammymare · 10/04/2022 09:03

@4thtimethecharm you can also book a consultation at John Lewis where you get an hour with a staff member to talk through things and they’ll show you how to use the car seats. We’ve booked one for today as we are in exactly the same position, both extremely busy with work and have had no headspace to get anything organised yet. But we are also the first ones in the family to have children, so no hand me downs to rely on, and MIL advice is all slightly at odds with the NHS guidance. She was insisting baby should sleep in their own room and was horrified we haven’t decorated a nursery. She relented when I showed her the actual guidance on the nhs website and explained we’d rather keep our spare room as a spare room so at least one of us could sneak off to a different bed and catch up on sleep if needed

Vimto1991 · 10/04/2022 09:38

@Jammymare they seem to think because they had a baby 30 odd years ago (sorry, presuming age here but using mine as an example), that they know all the medical ins and outs of having a baby! For example, I told my mom my hips hurt lying on my side but I’m not allowed to sleep on my back - she said that’s ridiculous and the only way for her to get comfy near the end of when she was pregnant with me was on her back. 😬 survivors mentality - I’d rather not risk it!
DH and I only have Sundays off together so it makes organising anything difficult. On top it it, I’m an only child and DH is a twin (the other doesn’t want kids), so same as you in that regards although friends are being generous with hand me downs we have no idea what we need!!
If baby was born early, they’d have no where to sleep 😅 I think I need a list of importance to get stuff sorted on Sundays!

JAR1981 · 10/04/2022 10:38

Wow thread 10! I haven’t been on here for a few days given busy week, so much to catch up on.

Thanks for setting up the FB group @Brightsmoke.

We had a lovely photoshoot on Thursday, the pics are gorgeous and i can’t believe how pregnant I look 🤣. So glad we did it.

Growth scan wasn’t so great though, baby is measuring 2.2kg at 31+4. Measurements are around 75-90th percentile however because we were only 42nd at 28 weeks I now have a GTT booked for tomorrow as has grown above the upper limit on my growth chart. I’ve switched to a GD diet over the weekend, but worried they’ve caught it too late and chance of stillbirth etc is making me v anxious. Hoping baby has just had a growth spurt. For those of you that have had a GTT, especially recently/later on - how long did it take to get the results and if you were positive, to see the GD team and get a monitor etc?

JAR1981 · 10/04/2022 10:47

Also sorry the images didn’t come through well from my physio plan a few days back. The ones that seem to be helping my pelvis/lower back/hips the most are ‘thread the needle’ classpass.com/movements/thread-the-needle-pose and tail wag which you can find on this one: uhs.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/lowbackpain.pdf. Also pelvic tilts propped up on pillows in combination with pelvic floor hold.

Vimto1991 · 10/04/2022 13:06

@JAR1981 I don’t have GD but I’m pretty sure they tell you at the test on the same day, im sure they’d refer you quite fast if it was a positive case. Fingers crossed baby has just had a big growth spurt. :)

I just went out to a few shops to look for a new sideboard with DH but had to come away early as thought I was going to faint! Started feeling really warm with bad back ache, too. Is this just normal third trimester? :( unless I was slightly dehydrated (and had held in a pee for about half an hour).

4thtimethecharm · 10/04/2022 13:22

@Jammymare, oh, that is brilliant. I will look into those consultations. I thought it looked like an 'official' appointment. They were seated on chairs, and the man was putting the chair on some sort of thing. Just too bad there were no other staff members around at that time for drop-ins like us.

We do feel very lucky having SIL around, who has been such a huge source of support for us in things. Luckily, on one side (the side we will see most, as they love closest by), they have loads of young grand kids, so they are quite up-to-date with stuff. The other side not to the same extent. But in the end, all of them succeeded in raising children safely to adulthood, so I will just hang onto that idea, and try not to take things personally. (However, who knows, I might be online in 9 months on MN, tearing my hair out over some misguided 'advise' or criticism.)

We just feel quite overwhelmed with everything, though, as there is just so much. Like, I was checking out today one of these 'week X - your baby now is the size of a jam jar' things, where they urged us to pack our baby hospital bag. So we ended up googling what that should all contain. I promptly went online and bought nipple cream, baby bum cream, and breast pads this morning.

beansprout55 · 10/04/2022 13:52

Oooooo @Octoblockisadick thanks for the tip! I haven't read up much on this but might be keen to try it. @Brightsmoke when did you start having a cup a day? I'm 29 weeks today. Am I right in thinking you need to start drinking it gradually so to not cause baby distress/contractions? Anxious to try it in case I cause him distress, but also heard such good things about the benefits. xxx
