@4thtimethecharm seconding the value of the JL appointment. I don't think they do drop-ins so you do need to book in advance but once you've had it they give you either 10% or 15% off anything you buy (has to be in a single transaction and you can do it online at a later date, not there and then in the store!)

We bought our pram system, car seat and base, snüzpod, sterilising & bottle set, and a bunch of other baby things like sleep suits, muslins etc and ended up getting 15% off the lot which was quite a saving really. The appointment is free to do and the guy who did it with us was so helpful, talking us through car seats, test 'driving' prams and putting them up/down and explaining the difference (I don't think you'd be able to do this with your SIL as they had to unlock the prams for us to play around with them, we couldn't have just picked them up ourselves), and even talking us through different sterilising sets, changing mats, slings and monitors - he really was an expert on everything baby related and didn't try to push/sell us anything in particular at all as there was no obligation to buy on the day. We live in a one-bed flat and had written that in the info box and he'd prepped for our appointment by considering space-saving options for us!

Basically can't recommend it enough even if you don't end up going with JL!

@pregnancydiaries love those pictures, feeling where her head and bum are and then where I feel the kicks/elbows I swear our babies have a flexibility I literally can't conceive of!

Octoblockisadick · 10/04/2022 16:54

@PleaseSendNoodles it's recommended from 32 weeks, but my midwife said I can drink it whenever because it doesn't actually induce labour. There is some evidence that it can shorten the length of labour though, so I figure it is worth a try!
Same with dates, there are actual clinical studies that show eating around 6 dates from 34 weeks can shorten labour and make it more efficient. I'm 31 weeks now and have been eating 3 dates with my museli for weeks haha. Helps with the constipation too! I'll up it to 6 when I'm a bit further along.

@pregnancydiaries those pictures are so cute! I love the little foot cuddles haha.

I've heard some people say they can see on scan pictures that their baby has hair, has anyone here had that? I'm wondering what it looks like because it sounds so strange haha.

@Vimto1991 we've got the "important" bits now (ie a pram, carseat and moses) but we still need a new mattress for the next to me. Also realised today that whilst I have loads of breastpads (free on the boots advantage card if you join parenting club btw!) I don't have any maternity pads / big knickers etc (I don't even remember what else I need tbh). Re the feeling faint, I feel like that a lot, I do think it's just a pregnancy thing unfortunately ☹️

@JAR1981 I was told at my gtt that i would get a phonecall within 24 hours if positive, think that's pretty standard from what I've heard.

I'm so so tired today haha! Feel like having a nap on the sofa but don't think my daughter is going to let that happen haha!

Gosh thread 10 😳. Lol I missed many threads 😅.

Can you lovely ladies let me know what you think of this
www.online4baby.com/joie-chrome-trio-i-snug-travel-system-with-carrycot-ember

I’d need to buy an isofix base separately so altogether costs £430.

But car seat seems to tick all the boxes and there is a carry cot which I wanted for baby to lie flat?

What have other people gone for? Will put in the order next week when I am 31 weeks.

Octoblockisadick · 10/04/2022 17:29

@Clomid1 it looks nice. I've got a joie carseat for my almost 4 year old and it's really good.
I ordered our travel system from that company and it was really good, very fast delivery.
All I would say is probably try and see any pram in a shop if you can, so you can see how it feels when pushing/ turning, and how it folds as sometimes you need to take the seat part off to fold some prams.

Vimto1991 · 10/04/2022 17:43

@Octoblockisadick ha yeah I have nothing like maternity pads yet. There feels like so much to buy and I never know when I should! Maybe when I pack the maternity bag 🙈 ah poop for faintness as a normal part of pregnancy, I’m starting to get frustrated with how little I can accomplish in a day!!

Prema112 · 10/04/2022 17:52

@Brightsmoke & @Octoblockisadick I asked about raspberry leaf tea at my midwife appointment and she said give it a go but definitely not before 37 weeks as it may induce labour. Which is a complete contradiction to what yours said @Octoblockisadick, tbh I didn't have loads of faith in the midwife I saw (I've seen a different one for every appointment) and I'm keen to do RLT. I think I'll start around 35/36 weeks...

Clomid1 · 10/04/2022 17:52

@Octoblockisadick which one did you go for?

annie1994 · 10/04/2022 18:13

Anyone else shocked by how expensive nipple cream is 😂 £11.50 for a tube!!

pregnancydiaries · 10/04/2022 18:18

@4thtimethecharm @fpeg @Octoblockisadick thanks gals ♥️ @fpeg honestly I can't understand how someone gets their foot up to their face but there we have it 😂

@Octoblockisadick i SO wanted to ask this about whether I could see his hair but I was worried id look like an idiot, so I kept my mouth shut and she didn't mention...maybe he's a wee baldy 😂

Vimto1991 · 10/04/2022 19:19

@pregnancydiaries oh my gosh that’s the cutest little foot!! How on earth that’s comfy or possible 🙈

Letsbekindplease · 10/04/2022 20:22

Does anyones babies feel a bit sluggish sometimes? I feel like she’s not moving as much this evening. She is moving but not her usual. Im trying not to overthink or panic. Going to grab some water and lie down. See if movements get better.

Letsbekindplease · 10/04/2022 21:14

Ok x2 sweet waffles with ice cream, strawberries and sauce seemed to get the movements going. Kinda hurts lol. She’s moving so I’m happy. I’m literally all baby. It’s amazing to feel where her wee head is. The feet are right down my left side and it makes me smile when she stretches and kicks. Not long now ladies.
Can I ask about the growth scans? I haven’t had one. Am I supposed to have one or are these done just if baby is measuring too big/small?

pregnancydiaries · 10/04/2022 21:28

Glad the waffles worked @Letsbekindplease 💗 mine has quiet days and very very active days, it's difficult not to worry but they are still moving into different positions right now, but always phone triage if you are concerned at all. I've found they are always more than happy to assess.

Re growth scans, I get mine as I am getting a c section due to underlying health conditions but I think if you're having a "low risk" pregnancy and all was ok at 20 week scan, most don't get them. Xx

Vimto1991 · 10/04/2022 21:30

@Letsbekindplease
I just had waffles with strawberries and getting so many movements too 😂 I think they’re just running out of room, and as long as they move in their usual pattern we shouldn’t panic too much.

@annie1994
Does seem expensive for something we’ve never needed before! I got some in a mama mio pack at Christmas but will get the lanolin kind as well when the baby is born. Hopefully worth every penny!!

Brightsmoke · 10/04/2022 21:58

@beansprout55 I started at 32 weeks. From what I've read, it won't start labour, but will make the 2bd stage of labour go faster/smoother. It's perfectly safe to drink it throughout pregnancy. It probably does nothing but I'm clinging onto the hope of a shorted labour 😂 - as @Octoblockisadick also says :)

@vimto 100% lanolin! It's a life saver.

A warning for those as unprepared as I was with my son, BFing BLOODY hurts. Like it's really really sore to start with. I was pumping milky blood in the first week. But it won't harm baby at all, midwife OKed it for me. But if it's what you want to do, try and persevere as it gets so much easier relatively quickly. I wasn't expecting the pain, so just trying to prepare you all

ALHCTPS · 11/04/2022 07:30

@mrkb just catching up, but wanted to say; pregnancy sucks. I hate it. On the plus side, I hate it so much that I look forward to getting the birth over and done with and getting my abdomen back. I mean, what is there to enjoy? I’m looking forward to my baby and glad I’m healthy and so is he, but I do feel a bit like John Hurt in Alien, and I get off relatively lightly with pregnancy symptoms. It’s uncomfortable and inconvenient. Such bad design, frankly! I do think it’s a bit of a con, this idea that we should ‘enjoy’ pregnancy. Blame the patriarchy. Can you imagine men putting up with this shit? If we had these symptoms without a baby involved, it would be considered a major illness. Nearly there.

ALHCTPS · 11/04/2022 07:33

@Vimto1991 - mother and baby screenings at the cinema are the BEST.

Vimto1991 · 11/04/2022 08:16

@ALHCTPS is that a thing?? I’ll have to see if that’s in my area!!

MrsTwentyNine · 11/04/2022 08:17

Anyone waking up more than twice in the night to pee ? 3 last night for me!! That's insane. 9 weeks to go... Shock

InvisibleDragon · 11/04/2022 08:22

@Letsbekindplease I think mine definitely changes his routine based on how / when I sleep. If I'm awake at night (3am Hmm) or go to bed later he doesn't wake up as early. Went to bed at 1am last night and he wasn't really as active at 7am when I woke up, but having a good kick and shuffling around now.

@Brightsmoke various relatives have terrified me about breastfeeding - my mum went on a huge rant about painful let downs, cracked nipples and the baby (ie me) drinking blood and pus. Then my MIL gave me a book designed for GPs and health visitors that described in gross detail all the different things that can go wrong. Milk blebs, mastitis ...

The thing is, I really want to breastfeed - love the idea of snuggling my baby and being able to feed him whenever he needs. I'm wondering how much pain and general grossness I can put up with to get to the good part though!

ALHCTPS · 11/04/2022 08:27

@Vimto1991 I’d be surprised if it wasn’t. All parents and babies. Half the mums are standing up in the aisles jigging babies or changing nappies or breastfeeding at all times and they have subtitles on as well as sound so you don’t miss anything. My first loved the low lighting and the noise and slept happily. Though, the first time I went I got screenings confused and ended up at the OAP screening instead. Was worried it would all go badly wrong, and proactively apologised to the couple in my row, who assured me I was surrounded by grandparents. As it turned out, the first born nestled into the sling and slept soundly throughout.

Frankly, you’d be surprised how portable they can be. Yes, sometimes you have to abort a trip if there’s a poonami or they’re colicky, but once you get the hang of the sling, you can do most things. Museums, galleries, I went travelling too. And they fit round you. Not something I can say once they get a bit older, so it’s worth enjoying it. My first even came to a poetry reading with me. But he was bomb proof. This one may well be the anti-Christ.

Vimto1991 · 11/04/2022 08:32

@ALHCTPS yeah I definitley want to invest in a sling! DH doesn’t really understand why but I love the idea of them, so I’ll have to pick one up soon!

Vimto1991 · 11/04/2022 08:33

@ALHCTPS also love how you were just accepted by a bunch of old people 😂 that’s just adorable!

ALHCTPS · 11/04/2022 08:34

@InvisibleDragon breastfeeding can be tricky, but not necessarily for everyone. Lots of people get on fine. You hear so much about the problems (which is important, so people who struggle don’t beat themselves up) that it’s easy to forget that many have a straightforward experience. Yes, mastitis is utter agony, but once caught it clears up quickly. Tongue tie can be a bastard too. But the trick is to call upon all the support possible. Health visitor, midwives, breastfeeding cafes and clubs. I both breastfed and did a bottle a day with the first (developed a paranoia I’d be hit by a bus and my baby would starve so wanted to make sure he took a bottle - also meant Beloved could take over for a few hours in the evening and let me slip before I took over the night shift) and breastfeeding is by far the more low maintenance. No kit, no having to sterilise stuff, and free. Unfortunately, my son decided it cramped his style about eight months and that he preferred a bottle ‘to go’ rather than being clamped to me…
