New thread - because I'm badly procrastinating with actual work today 😆

Why?? Why do they use this “feels like” temperature which is always way hotter than it is?! Just to make us feel even more DOOM at how bloody hot it is going to be?!!
nooooooo

I feel like I'm going to need to spend most of Friday lying on the tile floor! Just remembered I saved this thread in case it has any tips...

Going to buy ice pops today!

Unknown6 · 15/06/2022 11:49

I have already told my boss I'm not working full time on Friday so I can hide somewhere with air conditioning 😅

ToCaden · 15/06/2022 14:05

Tomorrow's not going to be nice either, though not as hot as friday. Looking forward to the rain supposed to come on the weekend which should cool things down.

ToCaden · 15/06/2022 14:09

Hot today too. Had to walk to and back from GP. 31 week midwife appointment done. He's head up after being head down last time. Wiggling all over the place even during the appointment.

SquigsC · 15/06/2022 15:48

Does anybody else feel stupid for being still at work? I am totally behind my choice to start maternity two weeks before my due date but oh my gosh my work output currently is zilch. If I am not falling asleep at my desk, I am struggling to find a comfortable position. If I am not struggling to listen during meetings then I am struggling to catch my breath. I feel kind of silly even turning up at this point!

CoalCraft · 15/06/2022 16:49

@SquigsC I'll be working up till the start of August so I'm with you. Thankfully I'm not suffering too badly except from the constant and super distracting hunger!

Cakecakecheese · 15/06/2022 17:03

I'm working until about a week before my due date but I work from home, have flexible hours and have a very understanding manager. Obviously if he comes early I'll have to change that!

Beth262 · 15/06/2022 17:11

I'm due to work until 37 weeks but currently off sick but imagine if I was working my output would be near zilch too 😆
Have consultant appointment Friday so if she gives me the all clear I'll return for a few weeks (office role at home). Not anticipating much motivation for that 4 week window though! And that's if baby doesn't come early. He seems to have currently changed his mind about making an appearance thankfully, but this limbo is really messing with me!

madeleine85 · 15/06/2022 17:16

@SquigsC I'll work up till the end, just as I work from home, very flexible arrangement, and they don't care where/when my work gets done as long as it gets done. Works out well for me... now i've hit the 3rd trimester i'm back to lunch naps, general exhaustion and chocolate makes me tired and sick again. Ready for the next 8-10 weeks to be done!

ToCaden · 15/06/2022 18:31

@SquigsC I'm working until 38 weeks, but spread out the rest of my annual leave so I've started working only two days a week. It helps, but must still be tired as by the time I finish each work day my back is aching and I go straight go bed for a couple hours.

It's amazing how normal everyday things are exhausting in the third trimester.

netflixandnochill · 15/06/2022 18:49

Had my section booked in today - 8th August! Will be 38+1 and plan to go on mat leave 1st August. Really want to go on mat leave right now/today. Am very fed up and only 30+3.

With you all on the heat, tiredness, back sleeping and nipple changes (they’re unrecognisable). I’ve also lost my ankles.

Blood sugar is all over the place so likely to go on insulin to keep my fasting readings down.

Need pram help - 70% sure I want an Uppababy Vista but also looking at the egg2 and trusty bugaboo. Help.

KCat82 · 16/06/2022 12:09

@netflixandnochill we had our Uppababy Vista V2 delivered last week. We initially liked ICandy Peach and a Bugaboo but fell in love with the Vista. I think it was probably the colour choices that swung it for me, nothing to do with practicalities 😂

netflixandnochill · 16/06/2022 12:19

Excellent news @KCat82! We’re almost there with the decision, just wanted to hear from those who have taken the plunge! We’re (very lucky to be) inundated with hand me downs from friends and family but wanted the pram to be our brand new purchase.

Has anyone had appointments with John Lewis? I have to say I found the department quite overwhelming (might have been the heat!) so think I may need to be shown what’s what!

KCat82 · 16/06/2022 12:25

@netflixandnochill we ordered everything from John Lewis and had two appointments with them. If you do an appt, you get quite a good discount depending on how much you spend (10% for over £750 and 15% over £1500 I think). There was no sales pitch whatsoever, we ordered online about a month later and they were really helpful.

netflixandnochill · 16/06/2022 12:33

@KCat82 Thanks!!

ToCaden · 16/06/2022 16:43

Hiding from the heat next to a fan 🙁

Suprised at how tired the heat is making me. I expected being uncomfortable, sweating, etc, but this is like a whole different ballpark to prepregnancy.

Trying to get a few chores done while clutching icepacks and I was pouring sweat and literally couldn't catch my breath even sitting down. Baby was also going absolutely crazy. Flailing all over the place which as his feet are currently low down was not comfortable.

After two hours max I went to lie down inside my bedtent with fan running, and promptly fell asleep for a couple hours. Just glad I'm not working today, though I do have an appointment tomorrow I need to walk to.

Gem2811 · 16/06/2022 18:04

Really feeling for all you ladies in this heatwave. I'm bad enough in Scotland at only 20 degrees I think I would cry in your situation!

Had 31 week appointment and getting sent for a growth scan was measuring too big last time and now there's not been much change. Apart from that I constantly feel like I am being stabbed in the ribs and could sleep all the time!

madeleine85 · 16/06/2022 18:55

@Gem2811 I lived in Glasgow for 8 years, and I swear my sunburns have been at their all time worst there! When it is hot there it just feels different. For context I live in LA now and it is sunny 24/7 but I have never been a lobster in that way vs 3 hours of sunbathing in Scotland. Also being stabbed in the ribs, and back to being a narcoleptic. Thank god for work from home and lunch naps :). Hope the growth scan goes well!

Gem2811 · 16/06/2022 19:15

@madeleine85 I so underestimated the sun the other week was only 17 degrees and ended up so burnt 😫 I'm jealous of the working from home I'm still in a stuffy office where everyone else is always freezing and I am melting 😂

madeleine85 · 16/06/2022 19:18

@Gem2811 I dread returning to an office, you have my sympathies... I am always freezing when in an office. I usually have a giant Zara scarf that I treat as a blanket :). Hope you have a good desk you can hide and nap at!

Chunks1376 · 16/06/2022 21:04

Day 8 of Covid and feeling a lot better but just been to the toilet and noticed some Ty bright coloured blood on the toilet roll. Now panicking and not sure if I should call the midwife or just let it be and see if it continues. 😩

madeleine85 · 16/06/2022 21:47

@Chunks1376 thats really worrying, please call. I’m certai. they would rather tell you it’s nothing and hear about it, than have you sit and wait. Hope you’re ok x

netflixandnochill · 16/06/2022 22:06

Glad you’re feeling better @Chunks1376. I’d get anything unusual or you’re not sure about checked out. Midwives are there for reassurance and I’m sure you’ll feel better after a quick chat x

Unknown6 · 17/06/2022 08:05

@Chunks1376 , how did the midwife call go?, they ask you to go into mau here for that.

I think I have mentioned I have a fast heart rate, well I finally got my monitor on for 24 hours yesterday (on the hottest day) hoping for some answers.

To all those wanting to go on maternity leave earlier, just go for it, my friend shut her laptop to start maternity leave on Tuesday and her waters broke, so she had no time after finishing work!
