Had a glucose test today, has anyone else had to do one? I'm not sure what about me means I qualify for it, as looking at the basic criteria I don't match it 🤔
The drink they gave made me very sleepy!

30 weeks tomorrow! 😄

Cakecakecheese · 29/06/2022 15:51

@starkid I had a glucose test, my midwife wasn't sure if I needed one as I didn't quite meet the criteria but thought it was best just in case. Luckily I don't have GD.

starkid · 29/06/2022 17:01

@Cakecakecheese yeah the things from my pregnancy I think may make them decide to test me are either multiples pregnancy, IVF pregnancy, or me having bowel disease. Who knows! Fingers crossed comes back fine.

RP90 · 29/06/2022 20:07

Aw it's so nice to hear all the babies are doing well...well done mummy's!!

I'm coming up for 32 weeks and packed my hospital bag today. My husband kept going on about it, not sure he even knew it was a thing the first time round ha. Also not sure the "snack bag" will stay in tack till then but we shall see ha.

I can't believe we're almost in July. Not sure if I feel slightly organised or really unorganised?!

Beth262 · 29/06/2022 21:27

@madeleine85 @CoalCraft Thanks both. I'm glad you're both feeling optimistic about passing your first little one's gestations. Yes I'm well past DS1 gestation now - 34+2. I've been looking back at pictures today where he was holding his 4 weeks old card (or rather it was proped up next to him!!) and thinking ok, so this little one is about that size now 😬
Aside from some really irregular braxton hicks he seems fairly comfortable in there. Watch me go 40+ and end up with sweeps, an induction and a 10 pounder! 🙈 Though I genuinely bloody hope not!

What have Brixton Hicks felt like for you all? I am 35 weeks and I don’t know if I’ve experienced them or not. I feel tightenings on small parts of my bump, but I’m not sure if that’s just the baby sticking his limbs out.

Isonthecase · 29/06/2022 22:43

@SquigsC My Braxton Hicks are when my whole bump goes hard, it generally hurts in my back as well. They're not meant to be painful but they absolutely are sometimes 😅 I think if it's the whole bump it's a contraction but a section might be the baby pushing?

Gem2811 · 29/06/2022 23:08

Does anyone have any hay-fever remedies I cannot cope with mine just now barely slept in over a week and the prescription tablets don't work 😪

Aw I feel your pain! Other than showering and washing hair before bed I have no advice!
Or have you tried having a spoonful of local honey every day? No idea if it works or not haha

Gem2811 · 30/06/2022 06:20

@miltonj it seems to be so bad this year. I've not tried honey but might give that a go I'm willing to try anything at this point literally going to work like a zombie just now

LiMc1 · 30/06/2022 06:26

Hi all, 33+5 today and I've been an emotional wreck! Any little thing can set me off, it's ridiculous!
3 weeks left of work (thank god) as it's adding to other stresses, which is not good.
One of my NCT ladies gave birth early yesterday at 34 weeks and it hit home that's a real possibility, so I'm now having a freak out.
Please tell me others feel the same!!

Omg tell me about it, it's the worst. By the end of the day, I'm a swollen mess. Just what we need on top of everything else!

Yes absolutely, feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat! Hopefully next few weeks will fly by for you, then hopefully it will be easier. I'm not working, but at home with my toddler and the emotions on top of running round after her and getting up at 5 are taking their toll!

squatternutbosh12 · 30/06/2022 16:55

You guys who had premature births last time, in awe of you as you must be finding these last remaining weeks so stressful! But excellent news that everyone seems to be staying put and behaving so far!

Im having a lot of braxton hicks too (my mum amused me today by calling them branston pickles so that is now what they’re being called around here 🤣) - for me they feel like either my whole bump or maybe half the bump going rock solid which will last maybe half a minute and then gradually get soft again. I haven’t had any that are ‘painful’ as such yet but it is strange and intense sort of feeling, kind of uncomfortable. I’m also getting quite a lot of short sharp cramps around the… probably cervix I’m guessing.. region… is this the ‘lightning crotch’?!? Haha
either that or it’s my little charmer punching me in the unmentionables. Cheers son.

had 34 weeks midwife appt today (love my midwife she is such a sweetheart), heart beat “nice and steady”(!) and baby measuring 35cm so a week ahead?! Although I know the tape measure isn’t very accurate, and got final growth scan in 2 weeks so will see for sure then. I do not know how he is managing to grow so well as I still can’t eat very much of anything but he seems to be doing a good job of it!

Also got some recommendations for breast pump type things- she said Medela make a good one to start off with, and recommended a Haakaa which is like a suction pump thing you stick on boob and it catches any leaks when you’re not actually feeding/expressing so you don’t have to waste anything. Thought I’d pass on in case anyone also thinking about these things!

madeleine85 · 30/06/2022 18:52

Agreed that I am so glad that everyone seems to be staying put for now (which honestly is kind of mind blowing, and great)! Hoping for healthy full term babies for all of us.

@squatternutbosh12 ahh good old lightening crotch! My baby occasionally bounces up and down on my pelvis by the feels of it. Re. breast pumps Medela is very reputable, I had a Spectra one for my DD and loved it, and have a Elvie one lined up for this baby, largely as the Spectra was great, but It was so frustrating spending 30 mins every 3 hours sitting down for months on end as the pump was heavy. My toddler won't allow me to not move for that long, so I really wanted one that was hands free and I could move freely with this time. Not cheap though, but hoping I can re-sell it at the end.

@Beth262 that is so crazy that your little one is now 4 weeks longer in than your last baby! My doctor has agreed to a 39 week induction, and I am here for it with my impatient self :). I'll start bouncing on a ball, walking up and down stairs, eating curry and doing everything that I can at 38 weeks though when my work busy deadline is met and i'm full term (assuming he stays that long)!

Beth262 · 30/06/2022 19:09

@squatternutbosh12 when DS was in NICU & SCBU I had access to the hospital grade Medela and it was absolutely amazing! Tried the 'swing' version and although smaller and therefore portable, it was pretty pants and I ended up getting bugger all out in the end. You can rent the hospital grade Medela ones monthly so may do that for the first few months this time round (people are selling them for £500 second hand) 😳 then switch to formula. Problem is it's a chunky bit of kit so I do like the sound of the one that @madeleine85 mentions especially if it catches drips... the amount I lost through leaking was crazy. Especially when next doors baby started crying (I kid you not!).

Yes it's crazy he's 4 weeks past. Every day I'm there like 'ok so it's got to be today' but he's just keeping on going!

Ooh just want to say about the hakka/other suction cups.... they aren't good if you have big boobs! It's like there's too much weight to keep the suction Blush but my smaller chested friends had success with them. Would fully recommend the medela as well.

Isonthecase · 30/06/2022 20:18

I also had an elvie, it's pretty good for portability and they do a silicone one to catch the drips from the other boob. Not totally silent though! I had really good customer service when the electric bit stopped working too, replaced it no bother. It's worth buying a secondhand one within warranty and getting the details of the warranty if you can.

Isonthecase · 30/06/2022 20:19

Also had a total Hakka fail @miltonj 😂 my pregnancy and breastfeeding boobs are frankly far too big...

mamaof2girls · 30/06/2022 20:33

Went to the midwife yesterday for 32 week appointment and baby is 3/5 is anyone else like this? X

Haha 😆, whoever said not to cry over spilt milk, obviously was not a breast feeding mum!

Isonthecase · 30/06/2022 20:47

@miltonj oh definitely, I don't even want to think about how many times I've cried over spilt breast milk 😂😅

Urgh, ive just remembered the time my husband threw a load away thinking it had been in the fridge too long, I felt too defeated to even be angry at that point!

Ah thank you sharing! I don’t think I’ve had that yet… I wonder if that means a late baby.
