So long as mine is a girl which we assume it is unless the NIPT is wrong we are going for Alexandra

Poppypip1 · 31/03/2022 12:38

Oh bless you @Carebear99 must have been scary. I've had a little bit of spotting last couple of days I'm 16 weeks tomorrow but have my midwife app so I will mention it there. I am not feeling well at all today, bad head and feeling sick and was sick this morning, but I'm so busy at work I can't really go sick. I feel exhausted too. But we've had such a busy few days/weeks really.

I've felt the odd flutter I think, I can't wait until I know I'm feeling definite movements!

Hoping to hear the heartbeat tomorrow for a bit of reassurance.

Haven't thought of many names but my partner and I have quite different tastes, I like quite a lot of girls names but no boys names at the moment. We have a private scan booked in just over a week, my partner REALLY wants to find out but I am undecided, I have heard soooooo many stories of them getting it wrong, I told want to be told baby is one and turns out to be the other if that's the case if rather not know until birth, partner seems to think that's super rare but I've heard it so much I think it's quite common. I have a 19 year old who wants to come to the scan with us and wants to find out, so it's two against one at the moment hehe. I think because partners so keen I might let him have his way as I get to carry baby and feel kicks etc he doesn't get any of that. X

annlee3817 · 31/03/2022 12:41

Loving all the name choices, @carebear99 yours is another favourite of mine, and is my daughter's middle name, we said we kind of regret it now as would have been good for this one lol

Poppypip1 · 31/03/2022 13:33

@IzzyLeigh love the name Finely for a girl beautiful

@Carebear99 love your name too!

Aren't NIPT accurate for sex? I'd have loved to have had that done but we can't afford it and there are no clinics near by.

Carebear99 · 31/03/2022 13:36

@Poppypip1 I think the nipt is accurate for sex but I've seen online that it wasn't for everyone, so I've been stressing myself out a bit!

GlitteryGreen · 31/03/2022 13:43

@dkedm15

Ooh and in answer to names, we had the boy name absolutely nailed down but we're struggling for girls! Typical isn't it 🤣
We are exactly the same.

I just feel so much stronger about girls' names, I guess because I am one and have known so many, don't like the connotations of some, don't want anything too princessy etc. I am very particular with names for girls and so far my DP hates my favourite :(

Whereas boys' names, DP and I were on the same page almost immediately.

Poppypip1 · 31/03/2022 13:52

Oh really? I thought that was the most accurate, I guess you'll have your 20 week scan in a few weeks and hopefully get to confirm there?

Chlox16 · 31/03/2022 13:54

We found out on Mothers day we are having a baby boy Smile - we only really had a girls name chosen haha!

Reuben is our mutual favourite so far as we have different tastes but still plenty of time I guess x

IzzyLeigh · 31/03/2022 13:55

@Poppypip1 thank you! And sorry about the spotting and that you’re not feeling well Sad Please let us know how it goes tomorrow! Hopefully you’re like me and @Whatelsecouldibecalled and the spotting is just one of those things and nothing to worry about.
And I know this is a very long time ago, but your concerns about the sex determination via scan reminded me. My in-laws were actually told that my husband was going to be a girl! They picked out a name and did the nursey in all girly things and then ... surprise! Boy! Don’t worry though, scans have become a LOT clearer since then. If you do find out and you’re still concerned, you can always go get a private scan afterwards to see if they come to the same conclusion

@Carebear99 I know it might be different since I’m in the states and my NIPT was different (QNatal, not Harmony or the others you guys have), but the bottom of my test had the following info about accuracy:
“Sensitivity Specificity
T21 >99.9%
T18 >99.9%
T13 >99.9%
Y Accuracy* >99.9%
Performance of the QNatal Advanced laboratory-developed test (LDT) has been determined based on internal analytical assessment.”

*I assume this means accuracy of detecting the Y chromosome

Anyway, like I said, I know they’re different, but I assume the accuracy standards for different versions of the same test can’t be too varied. Hope that helps reassure you a little.

Yeah I was surprised to see you say about some people's results being wrong, as I know quite a few people personally that have had the NIPT and all have been correct, hopefully it's just people commenting for their idea of fun and not actual experience.

ShiningStarz · 31/03/2022 14:22

Wow so many of thinking of names so early on. I think the last time I was expecting we waiting until after 30 weeks! Paranoia on my part!!!! This time no names discussed yet either! I'm 17 weeks, had scan today and all good and had the diabetes test. Hopefully not positive !!!!

ShiningStarz · 31/03/2022 14:23

@Carebear99 it's a genetic test so can't be wrong. I'd be very surprised if the test got it wrong. We aren't finding out the sex! Although I think I'll be keeping a close eye out for anything obvious during the 19-20 week scan !!

stimpyyouidiot · 31/03/2022 14:52

I mean cutie mcbutton is very sweet, and I'll imagine I shall use it as a nickname... as a high flying lawyer or some such job not so much hahahha.

HaresHoping · 31/03/2022 15:03

Hi everyone! Hoping I can join?

I've been lurking for a while but not felt able to settle into this pregnancy until just now. I'm a carrier of a rare genetic condition which is passed down in the male gene. We found out at 8 weeks through a blood test that our baby is a boy, so that meant it was literally a 50/50 chance whether or not he would be affected. We'd already decided if he was, then we wouldn't continue with the pregnancy so it's been a really tough few months of worry.

We feel so lucky though that at 17 weeks and 1 day, yesterday we got the all clear and were finally able to tell some friends and family that we'd not shared the news with yet (for fear of causing worry they didn't need due to other stresses). It was such a blissful day! It feels very strange though to be almost halfway through a pregnancy and only just starting to plan things! We haven't a clue what we're doing 😂

Our boy is due on 6th September and we can't wait to meet him 🥰 this is our third pregnancy, we sadly had a couple of very early miscarriages last year so we're feeling exceptionally lucky right now.

Congratulations to everyone on their lovely scans, hope everyone is well today ☺️

Carebear99 · 31/03/2022 15:20

Welcome to @HaresHoping and @Poppypip1Smile

What a relief for you Hares, I cant imagine how long the last few weeks have felt for you. I'm pleased you can now relax a little bit. And don't worry about not knowing what you are doing, I'm hoping for baby 3 to arrive and I still don't really know 😂 even more so if this one is a girl 🤪 pl planning on winging it daily here.

HaresHoping · 31/03/2022 17:51

Thank you all so much for your lovely warm welcome!

Oooh I'm so excited to have a due date twin @CLC22 😍 all I've bought is a pregnancy pillow which I ordered yesterday as sleeping on my front is starting to get a bit uncomfortable 😳 we're going to the Mamas and Papas shop tomorrow though to have a mooch about, and we're so excited! Might get a little toy or something to mark the occasion 🥰

It's so nice to be able to join in with all you lovely ladies!

HaresHoping · 31/03/2022 17:52

And honestly @EverydayIsPJday that is a huge, huge relief. We feel like proper daft noobs 😂
