Thank you for the warm welcome, I'll be 38 next month. It's a strange time this time between the first scan and 20 week scan isn't it, haven't got a "proper" bump yet and not feeling much movement although I think I've felt the odd flutter. Nice to read of a few having their 20 week scan and everything being ok, we've booked a private scan at 17 weeks hoping to find out if baby is a boy or a girl but will also be nice just to see baby and hope that everything's ok in there! I have a midwife app on Friday so hoping to hear the heartbeat as I've not heard it yet. Im also having the gestational diabetes test x

Carebear99 · 29/03/2022 13:19

Just had my 16w midwife appointment. It was only 15 minutes (mostly because of computer issues or would have been 5 minites) and they just tested my urine, blood pressure, gave results of 8w booking scan bloods then booked my 28w midwife appointment. They didn't offer to listen to the heartbeat but I know that varies in different areas.

What were your 16w midwife appointments like?

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 29/03/2022 14:15

Spotting has eased off now thank goodness. Maybe just one of those things. Should I still go for scan?

TotoAnnihiliation · 29/03/2022 14:20

@Poppypip1 welcome! I will be 37 by the time the baby arrives.

I had a strange experience today, I was holding my friends one week old baby and when she cried my nipples started tingling! I guess that is my body getting itself in working order!

Carebear99 · 29/03/2022 14:32

@Poppypip1 Welcome! I'm 39 and unexpectedly pregnant, 16 weeks now. We both had fertility issues and had been ttc for 20 years so this is a shock!!!

stimpyyouidiot · 29/03/2022 14:49

I've got another sodding cold. Paracetamol not touching it. Feeling pretty rough :(

ShiningStarz · 29/03/2022 15:20

@Billymay I had a 16 week one and they said it's not much different to 12 week scan. You need to be at least 19 weeks before they can check everything.
That must have been very tough but only a few more weeks to go.

ShiningStarz · 29/03/2022 15:21

Baby size more than doubles between 16-20 weeks !! A month of super growth!!

Weddingaug2019 · 29/03/2022 15:56

Hi ladies! So I had my gender scan last week and I'm having a little girl! ❤️
She is my second baby and second girl 🥰 my first daughter is 2 years old and I am 33.
I still haven't had my results yet from the bloods and measurements they do at 13 weeks.. trying not to get too anxious about that!! 4 weeks time and hopefully we will be seeing a nice baby bump and a healthy baby at the 20 week scan!! 😬🙏❤️ love to you all, I hope everyone is well x

Tinadecember · 29/03/2022 16:09

@Carebear99 - my 15 week appt was much of the same... blood pressure check, urine sample check and general questions. My midwife said they they will not listen to the heartbeat until 25 weeks due to uncertainty of finding it and the worry if it can't be found on the mother. All sounds normal to me!

@Billymay congrats on your low risk results, it is certainly a weight lifted!!

I will be 16 weeks tomorrow, for the last 3-4 days I have been feeling the tiniest of movements, so light that it feels like a fingertip touching me on the inside. The first 48 hours I ruled it out as wind as didn't want to get my hopes up but the fact it has been 4 days and I can still feel it gives me reassurance that I think it is the baby! hopefully the movements become stronger in the coming weeks.

This is my second baby and I didn't feel anything until around 18 weeks with my daughter though I am definitely more aware this time

anyone else feeling movements and if so, how do they feel?

madeleine85 · 29/03/2022 16:43

@annlee3817 I checked it today and we are 45% of the way through!! It both feels like there is forever to go, and that we are getting there. Doesn't help that I look like I just ate a few too many burritos still.

@Poppypip1 welcome, I have a 2 year old and already feel like I've forgotten all the early day basics, so you're very much not alone. Hopefully if you have an older one you will have an extra set of hands too for help :)

@EverydayIsPJday well done for breaking the news to work! Weird but somewhat understandable reaction from your boss I guess. At least now you can focus on getting a replacement and your mat leave time.

@Billymay yessssssssss congratultions on that.

@Whatelsecouldibecalled I would still go tbh, unless you have another one lined up soon. I'd still want the reassurance of just seeing the little one and making sure that they are ok in there.

@Weddingaug2019 congratulations!

@Tinadecember I had a crazy day of kicks bang on 16 weeks (could feel with my hand on my belly), and some weird eel in my belly turning over feelings before that but nothing since. I worked out in general a lot pre pregnancy, both times, and with my DD swore I could barely ever feel movement (even late on). Wondering if that is even a thing? I think i'm just bad at detecting them tbh. 2 weeks ago at a scan, we saw the little guy do a big bounce and the nurse asked if I felt it, and I didn't. 18 weeks today, so not sure if/when i'll start feeling movements. For some reason I am not freaking out and heading for the doppler even though I can't feel a lot, which is unlike me!

IzzyLeigh · 29/03/2022 17:48

@annlee3817 well I hope it stays at tiredness and a sore throat and that altogether it’ll be relatively mild for you. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery!

@EverydayIsPJday doesn’t it feel like such a weight off to finally tell work? I did last week and I felt so much better. Sucks about the other manager handing in her notice but, like you said, nothing you can do about that. They’ll manage.
Side note about work and the start of maternity leave: is it unreasonable for me to think I’ll be able to work up until like the week I give birth? I work from home and I’m having to take a very limited leave (4–6 weeks), so I’m trying to save that all for recovery and such. What do you guys think?

@handbagsandholidays thank you!

@Billymay congrats on the screening results! When is your 20-week scan? Mine is April 29th and I’m already so so so anxious about it. and it feels like it’s so far away! I’m so glad everything ended up well with your daughter! No wonder you’re nervous after an experience like that!

@Whatelsecouldibecalled yesss! So happy to hear that the spotting has eased off! Obv you know what I will say about getting the scan as I got it even though my spotting had eased off too. The reassurance was worth it. However, if you have a regular scan already scheduled (like this week or next) and think you can hold off and that your anxiety is in check, then it might be worth it to wait for you. For me, my next scan isn’t until April 29th and my nerves and fears were all-consuming, so I definitely wouldn’t have been able to wait that long. I reasoned that the stress of worrying wouldn’t be good for me or the baby and so I spent the money and had the private scan. It was really worth it. I feel sooooo much better knowing she’s good in there.

@TotoAnnihiliation That’s crazy about the nipple tingles from the baby crying! How far along are you again? I’m now going to seek out crying babies in grocery stores and see if I have the same reaction haha

@stimpyyouidiot ugh sorry you’re sick again Sad

@ShiningStarz right now they have my 20-week scan scheduled for when I’m actually going to be 18+6. Do you think I should call and doublecheck if that’s far along enough to do the 20-week scan? I don’t want to question them or have them take it the wrong way, but I definitely want to make sure that everything is developed enough to get an accurate reading. Then again, I’m really hoping it’s fine bc I’d love to get it over with as soon as humanly possible...

@weddingaug2019 congrats on the baby girl news!

@madeleine85 that’s crazy that you and @annlee3817 are so far ahead! Are you guys due really early September? I have to admit, I’m a little jealous. But I’m also really thankful to you guys for trailblazing for the rest of us Smile

has anyone else decided on a name already too? My husband and I picked out ours around week 11 and we're dead-set on it. Too early?

OP posts:
annlee3817 · 29/03/2022 18:13

@IzzyLeigh 30th August, but I know the date we conceived which would have put me at Sept 1st :)
Wanted to stay put though lol

madeleine85 · 29/03/2022 18:22

@IzzyLeigh also 30th August based on last period and my drs seem to be sticking to that date, though ovulation and the scans put me at a 2-3 days behind that, though they didn't adjust my date. I like this group (you're all so nice), so i've been kicking around here since the date stuck as a bit earlier than expected

madeleine85 · 29/03/2022 18:25

And yes, we also picked our name for our boy, but no middle name yet. The first name is the boy name I had if my DD had been one, so made it a bit easier once my husband got on board :). The middle name is stumping me right now, 22 weeks to decide though.

stimpyyouidiot · 29/03/2022 18:30

We've got a list each, with some crossovers. Once we find the sex out we'll decide on a name :)

annlee3817 · 29/03/2022 18:31

Congrats on the results @Billymay great news :)

TotoAnnihiliation · 29/03/2022 18:35

@IzzyLeigh I'm 15 weeks today. I couldn't believe the nipple reaction!

We have a couple of names we really like - all girls names. I don't know what we will do if the baby is a boy! 🤣

EverydayIsPJday · 29/03/2022 18:44

Thanks everyone for your messages ☺️ I am pleased the telling work bit is over. Only 48 work days to go 😬 as I only work 3 days a week and have lots of leave overdue. Very strange!

We have a boy's name in mind but the nub specialists have predicted this one is a girl (which I still can't believe!!) So once we have found out either way we will have a proper think (nothing girly springs to mind right now). My eldest son is praying for a little sister so it would be nice if they are right for him 🥰

EverydayIsPJday · 29/03/2022 18:44

Congrats @Billymay great news ☺️

Em85kk · 29/03/2022 19:42

@IzzyLeigh Yes! We have a couple of names but one is the favourite. Husband and dd keep referring to baby with it, so I guess we’ve decided 😂

Anyone else struggling with migraines? I had a lot in the early weeks, but just had one that has just about gone now but started on Sunday evening! Work have been really supportive but I still feel crap for being so unreliable.

ShiningStarz · 29/03/2022 20:53

@IzzyLeigh it totally depends what you do for work and also if you have to travel etc. I had so many holidays with my last baby as we were in lockdown so I used 3 weeks and finished up early. Also depends on how your feeling, I know on last thread some of the girls had really bad I think it's called SPD, pains and pains from being pregnant and were in agony. Hopefully you'll sail smoothly all of your pregnancy x

ShiningStarz · 29/03/2022 20:55

@IzzyLeigh you'll be almost 19 weeks then. I was told to book mine anytime after a certain date and that was after 19 week mark. So all good. If there is something they can't see they'll call you back. They know more than us 😂😂

PrettyTulip · 29/03/2022 21:02

@Carebear99 20 years 😮 I thought my 3 years was bad. I'm so pleased this is finally happening for you x
