Just booked my private gender scan for Sunday! I thought I could wait until 20 weeks but I can’t. We didn’t find out what we were having with our first, but excited to this time (I think!). I’m a bit nervous 😂

IzzyLeigh · 14/03/2022 21:32

@Belle2210 yes! It has this silicone strip on the bottom seam that helps with that. I’ve been wearing mine unfolded, but I think that folding it would add extra control to holding stuff up probably. So far it’s been great at keeping my unzippered and unbuttoned pants in place all day without being folded though.
However, I will say that I’m not super active (I work from home and the most I do is go downstairs to pee a couple dozen times a day) so I can’t speak to how it would be if you work a job where you’re on your feet all day and doing a lot of bending down or reaching or something. But I can say that I would confidently go out and run a full day’s worth of errands without worrying about my pants falling down.

@Em85kk so exciting! How far along will you be then?

Thanks @IzzyLeigh. Might have a look into getting one.

Now that people are starting with gender scans I wondered if anyone can give me some advice. My husband wants to have a reveal where we find out at the same time with family but for certain reasons it would have to be a balloon to pop for it. Is there a way to do this without having to have someone else know to pass on whether it's a boy or girl balloom needed? Considered getting it written in an envelope then hopefully finding a balloon we can use in a shop rather than online as it's obviously trickier for letting them know whether it's for a boy or girl if online. Any other suggestions?

Em85kk · 14/03/2022 21:43

@IzzyLeigh I’ll be 14 weeks, that’s the earliest the scan place can do one. I haven’t held out very long ha ha.

MOLWI · 14/03/2022 21:45

@Belle2210 the place I've been for my scans can do it there for you! Like they'll put the coloured confetti in the balloon without telling you! X

Em85kk · 14/03/2022 21:45

@Belle2210 if you get a private scan you can buy all sorts of gender reveal stuff from them. They do balloons, canons and teddies etc so you don’t have to worry about it.

IzzyLeigh · 14/03/2022 21:47

@Belle2210 I don't know if the silicone strip thing made sense in my explanation, so here's a pic of it. I'm folding it up so you can see it here, but it's normally strip-side down so that the silicone part is on your pants and keeping them up. Works surprisingly well

@Em85kk 14 weeks is longer than I held out! haha

Great thanks everyone! I'll double check with where we go for the gender scan to check they do balloons before hand 🙌.

Thanks! I did wonder how it kept things in place.

@Bellebun22 ultrasound direct do the sex reveal stuff.
.@IzzyLeigh excited to get mine now

@Em85kk ah that's great that they can tell you at 14 weeks

nicc1000 · 14/03/2022 22:55

Hope it's ok to share worry. I don't want to take away from everyone's lovely scans. We had ours at 13 weeks last week and all was ok so just starting to feel more hopeful. But then screening results today were a 1 in 12 chance of downs syndrome. I'm just distraught. I am going back for a nipt test tomorrow for a better idea but I feel so doom and gloom about it. Only 13 weeks in but feel like I've fought so long for a healthy baby already.

madeleine85 · 14/03/2022 23:25

@nicc1000 I’m so sorry you’re going through this extra stress. Was it the downs risk from the scan measurements or from the NIPT? Are you 30s+? I’m asking as the scan measurements use age as a factor then assign a risk so isn’t very accurate. The NIPT does something totally different.

Goodgoodthings · 15/03/2022 07:08

@Celyn22 @dkedm15 thanks so much for your advice - I don't think they took my B12 but will check with my midwife, I'm vegan so it could well be low though last pregnancy I didn't have any issues (think I've been more sick this time though).

Been struck down with a sickness bug here since Sun afternoon, just when I thought I couldn't feel much worse 😅 very much looking forward to feeling a bit closer to normal soon!

Goodgoodthings · 15/03/2022 07:13

@nicc1000 Just wanted to send some love your way, that must be such an emotional thing to be going through especially after having a good scan already. I hope the NIPT can give you some clarity ❤️

Tinadecember · 15/03/2022 08:00

@nic1000, sending you positive thoughts and virtual hugs, hoping that the NIPT gives you some clarity and it's good news xx

Hope everyone is well! 13+6 here today, we have kept our pregnancy a secret from our 11 year old daughter until we had had the results of the downs screening and knew that all was well, we told her on Sunday and it was the most beautiful moment :) she sobbed her little heart out with happiness!

Starting to feel more like myself though still suffering with the odd waves of nausea and the tiredness hit like a bitch last night, anyone else napping like their lives depend on it? haha!

stimpyyouidiot · 15/03/2022 08:07

@nicc1000 I had to have the NIPT through nhs too as high chance. All came back okay. Hoping for the same for you xxx

Celyn22 · 15/03/2022 08:19

@nicc1000 i’m sorry to hear your test results. Sending you love, and relaxing lavender and rosemary energies! Keep focusing on a healthy baby and great spirit aligning everything to yours and your partner’s highest good. I’m putting a prayer out now. Big hugs and best wishes xxx

ShiningStarz · 15/03/2022 08:37

@nicc1000 only the NIPT is accurate as it actually looks at your baby's blood. The other methods of screening are useless and are no indication at all. I know it's hard not to worry. Someone in my family got told high risk from scan too and when baby was born all was fine.

peanuts2016 · 15/03/2022 08:52

@nicc1000 - long time lurker here but wanted to offer you some support. From a 3.5 NT at my 12 week scan combined with bloods and age (33) we had a 1 in 5 for Down syndrome. Harmony wasn't offered in 2019 so we had CVS and everything turned out fine but I can understand the worry you feel every day waiting for your results, it's awful. Try and find some distractions if you can, sending virtual hugs

nicc1000 · 15/03/2022 09:02

Thank you so much for your positive messages and experiences. I am 43 so I know that will be a large factor. Off for my NIPT this morning and then waiting....

Isonthecase · 15/03/2022 09:59

Oh @nicc1000, the uncertainty must be so so hard. There was someone on the August thread who had similar, maybe worth having a look? She had some lovely stories shared of people who had downs and still lived wonderful positive lives. I think her nipt came back negative anyway, it's still an 80% chance that the baby won't have downs.

Either way, I hope you get some certainty soon so you can get excited again about your life with your baby, however that looks.

IzzyLeigh · 15/03/2022 10:32

I'm so sorry that you're going through this @nicc1000. I'm hoping your NIPT results come back faster than they've ever come back for anyone before and that they prove that the other results were just skewed because of age or whatever! I'll be thinking of you Flowers

@Goodgoodthings so nice to know another vegan pregnant person on here! If you think it might be the B12 and would rather a food source instead of pill, go pick up some nutritional yeast flakes. They're absolutely packed with B12. Three tablespoons of the kind I have here is like 1,000% of the daily value and it makes everything taste cheesy-ish. I put it on everything.

OP posts:
Goodgoodthings · 15/03/2022 10:39

@IzzyLeigh ah likewise! I had some negative reactions to being vegan with my first so I don't often mention it 😅 to each their own! DD was a very healthy 9lbs 7oz lol so it definitely didn't affect her growth!

I am low key obsessed with nutritional yeast, so good 🤤 I've definitely had it way less often through morning sickness so maybe that's what's made a difference come to think of it. Cannot wait to get some energy back! How are you feeling?

Also wanted to share that I found out that I got the job today! Still at the same company but something I've wanted for ages. Not sure I would have gone for it without you ladies encouraging me with being pregnant, but when I shared my news with the team they were really positive, it couldn't have gone better.
