Really weird question... but are contractions normal this early on? At the 12w scan yesterday the sonographer said she could see my uterus contracting, she said it was normal but I'm just wondering if anyone knows if this just the uterus getting bigger?

Whoknew22 · 26/02/2022 07:35

@Carebear99 braxton hicks? I know they can happen sooner with subsequent pregnancies. I wouldn’t worry if they noticed abs weren’t concerned. Just your uterus knowing what’s it’s doing and preparing for the big event xx

ShiningStarz · 26/02/2022 12:46

@Carebear99 I would say maybe she met it was contacting as in expanding and growing for the baby as it grows. I don't think actual contractions happen until way later!! I had crazy pains around now last time and it was ligament stretching and it's so uncomfortable.... might be near time for me to get the big pillow down form the attic!

Carebear99 · 26/02/2022 12:54

@ShiningStarz

I'm trying not to think too much about the NIPT results but it's so hard. I know from tracking the parcel it arrived at the laboratory on Thursday early morning! I'll start badgering my clinic from next Wed 🤞
@ShiningStarz I hope you get the results soon and they are good news. I'm sure they will be. According to my nipt results I had a 1 in 80 chance of downs syndrome.
Carebear99 · 26/02/2022 12:56

@ShiningStarz that makes more sense re the uterus contracting. I didn't think of it until today but at usual panic mode set in!

mol2mum · 26/02/2022 13:07

Hey ladies, I've seen a lot of people talking about NIPT tests on here recently. When should these be offered to you? I'm 11 weeks now and haven't heard anything about it. Is it something that I have to book/request myself? X

Carebear99 · 26/02/2022 13:13

@mol2mum this isn't offered routinely on the NHS. You have to go private, my hospital offers it but you have to ask and you have to pay.

I had mine at 10w and all was well. It cost me £345

ShiningStarz · 26/02/2022 13:21

@mol2mum I had mine done privately too, haven't had the bill yet but yeah think it's around £400. That included my scan. I wanted it done as I'm 39 so i guess with age I'm more anxious. I had it done at 11w. Think there are 2 types, the Iona and the harmony. There's lots of info on their websites.

mol2mum · 26/02/2022 13:38

Ahh okay makes sense now! Thanks for explaining, I'll have a look into it x

TotoAnnihiliation · 26/02/2022 16:42

After a good day yesterday, I'm back to feeling rough today. I'm hopeful that the good days will be become more frequent.

How is everyone else feeling?

Carebear99 · 26/02/2022 16:53

Hi @TotoAnnihiliation I'm 12 weeks and my symptoms had been going for a few weeks but for the past week I've had none other than being very tired. I had bad nausea at the start, I lost 8kg in 6 weeks.

Peauela · 26/02/2022 16:55

I have my Harmony on the 7th March and I got my first dating scan at the hospital on the 10th.. they will be surprised to hear I already had two lol... I hope baby is all good and growing ❤️ I feel like the time is dragging, I can't wait to be out of the danger zone and be able to enjoy my pregnancy a bit more... 2.5 weeks to go and I'll be starting my second trimester!

I'm 10 weeks and hopeful that by the time I get to 12 weeks I will feel ok. I'm so bored of feeling poorly!

I've got my scan on 10th too. It may as well be a million years away!

Has anyone's tiredness wained yet? I'm 9+2 and so, so fed up of the tiredness. I'm like a slug. No drive to do anything, can't concentrate, generally being a terrible mum.... please tell me there's light around the corner 😭

I'm still exhausted! I'm not sleeping at night time - my sleep cycles don't connect which means I wake up every 40mins.
Dreamer30 · 26/02/2022 17:47

Are NIPT tests in Scotland free? At my booking appointment at 9 weeks, my midwife told me this would be done at my 12 week scan appointment. I didn't think you had to pay in the UK

Carebear99 · 26/02/2022 17:55

NIPT isn't free in England, I don't know about Scotland

EverydayIsPJday · 26/02/2022 18:04

@TotoAnnihiliation thats awful

Dreamer30 · 26/02/2022 18:06

Had a look through my pregnancy notes app and these are the tests I'll have when I go. They also have information leaflets and it took me to this page on the NHS. Looks like it's only in Scotland which is unfortunate:(

monkeyjocks · 26/02/2022 18:07

@Dreamer30 in Scotland you get a different blood test at 12 weeks on the NHS that tests for the probability of Down, Edward and Patau syndrome. If that comes back high you get offered the NIPT.

Dreamer30 · 26/02/2022 18:11

@monkeyjocks ahh I see. That must have been what she said lol there was so much information in the 40 mins phone call

Sorry my love but I'm 12+5 and am flagging still !!
ShiningStarz · 26/02/2022 19:40

I'm almost 12 weeks and I'm still so tired. I have an 18 month old toddler though so my days are very different compared to my first pregnancy. I really don't know how people have multiple kids close together 🙈
