@IzzyLeigh I had mine done at 10+4, just wanted to ensure I was definitely over ten weeks

Carebear99 · 24/02/2022 11:53

Hi @IzzyLeigh I'm overweight so was worried but I had the IONA nipt at 10w2d. Surprisingly fetal fraction was 10%!

TotoAnnihiliation · 24/02/2022 12:54

@Moonshine160 I just wanted to reach out to you and check how you are? Sorry to hear you are having a tough time. Have you got phone number for the midwife so you can talk to someone?

I've woke up today feeling human. Still no appetite but no nausea. So, of course, the paranoia is high!

The other night I woke up soaking wet on one side. I'm wondering if it was boob leak? But isn't 10weeks a bit early?

Pinkflamingofly · 24/02/2022 14:17

@Moonshine160 i totally get it, I also have spotting, I get it at least once a week and it brings me down. I feel like I cant get excited about this pregnancy, although the scans are fine and I was told it's common to spot in early pregnancy. I think it comes from my cervix, that's what I tell myself anyway when it happens, for reassurance. Could you maybe ask epu to get examined by a consultant and have a look at your cervix?
@TotoAnnihiliation I'm 9 weeks and no nausea today, which is worrying me. I usually spend my afternoons retching over the toilet ( so gross), I feel like 9 weeks is too early for nausea to be gone 😔

@Pinkflamingofly it's torture isn't it? Being so sick is the worse, but the panic when it goes is something else!

I'm resigning from my job today. It will screw me over for maternity pay, but I really can't face the thought of stepping foot in there ever again!

Pinkflamingofly · 24/02/2022 14:50

@TotoAnnihiliation oh no, what's happening? Are you sure if your decision? Could you not go on the sick until maternity leave and never come back after?

It's a long story - but the short version. It's my first year of teaching, the school I'm at is awful. It's made me feel very unwell, working 70+ hours a week, when I disclosed my pregnancy they suggested I left. For my well being I need to get out of there!

stimpyyouidiot · 24/02/2022 15:46

That's not legal, I'm sure of it @TotoAnnihiliation

Try and talk to the pregnant then screwed helpline. That's awful.

madeleine85 · 24/02/2022 16:01

Sorry @TotoAnnihiliation that you’re going through that. It’s so brutal for first year teachers. My cousin had a similar one where she had to take months off for mental health. If it makes you feel better she now has 2 boys and a teaching special needs children job she is very happy in. In her first year she really thought she was done for good. Take some time and evaluate your options, but take care of your mental health. It’s so important x

Pinkflamingofly · 24/02/2022 16:35

@TotoAnnihiliation aww sounds awful. Have you talked to your union? Could you doctor sign you off with stress? @madeleine85 is right, you have to take care of your mental health first so if you feel like you need to leave for the sake of your wellbeing, then do it. But make sure you speak to your union first

Moonshine160 · 24/02/2022 16:35

@TotoAnnihiliation @Pinkflamingofly

Thanks ladies. I can only assume my spotting/bleeding is from my cervix too. Me and DH haven’t DTD since finding out I’m pregnant and I don’t see how I’ll be able to throughout the whole pregnancy because surely it’s just going to make me bleed if the internal ultrasound made me bleed loads.

Toto, sorry to hear about work! You need to do what’s best for you and baby though and it sounds like a very toxic environment x

annlee3817 · 24/02/2022 17:35

@TotoAnnihiliation sorry it's come to that, sounds like a terrible school.

@Moonshine160 I had to abstain in the last pregnancy, I bled every time too, haven't even bothered to attempt this time, just so stressful isn't it. I bled a bit during my 12 week scan the first time, just with the pressure on my abdomen, so understand partly the stress it causes

Carebear99 · 24/02/2022 18:28

I have been panicking all afternoon as I found some blood. I think I've got thrush as the itchy burning pain down below is quite bad. I called the GP who refused to give me thrush treatment on prescription saying it's nhs Policy not to! I've had no bleeding before and I've got the 12w scan tomorrow. I think the bleeding is from the thrush, I'm going to go to the pharmacy tomorrow and get something but I would rather not take anything as I can see most thrush medications say not to be used in pregnancy

ShiningStarz · 24/02/2022 19:16

@Moonshine160 sorry to hear you are going through a time time. Could you consider an earlier private scan ? Hope you are ok and that the discharge has settled.
@IzzyLeigh I would try to wait until 11 weeks. There's more chance of there being fetal cells in the sample. I had mine done at 11w 2d.

Defo not legal @TotoAnnihiliation go to an employment solicitor! Take them to
The cleaners and get yourself a less stressful school with better working hours!!
@Carebear99 oh no. The midwife will check you out tomorrow and maybe take a team, they'll tell you what is safe to use in pregnancy. Good luck for tomorrow!

Carebear99 · 24/02/2022 19:19

Silly question but will I see a midwife at the 12w scan? Will it just be the radiographer?

ShiningStarz · 24/02/2022 19:33

@Carebear99 you should see both. The 12 week scan and checks can take up to 2 hrs.
In my experience I had the scan first with doctor, then waited to be called for bloods (they do full bloods) and to provide urine sample. The. Back out to wait for midwife where only you are allowed in (no partners) to go through alcohol, nutrition but also well fare of mother and baby from domestic abuse / violent partners etc. it's a long Appt.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 24/02/2022 19:34

@TotoAnnihiliation I'm sorry you're having a tough time. I'm a teacher. I know how hard it is. I would go off sick. See the year out. If you don't take enhanced pay you don't have to pay it back the. You can leave before returning back from maternity

stimpyyouidiot · 24/02/2022 19:48

Got my 12 week scan tomorrow.

Moonshine160 · 24/02/2022 19:58

@annlee3817 I think I’ll have to abstain too, it’s not worth the risk. I might reconsider later down the line when it’s not as early but for now I’m too scared.

@Carebear99 please let me know if they prescribe you with some thrush medication. I’ve been spotting on and off throughout this pregnancy with some red blood too and I’ve had thrush from the get go but haven’t dared use a pessary. I completely forgot to ask the midwife about it at my appt. I’ve read online though that thrush in pregnancy can irritate the cervix and cause harmless bleeding so hopefully that’s all it is.

Thanks @ShiningStarz, it’s settled again now. Goodness knows why this keeps happening, it was bleeding Thursday last week too. We had a private scan last weekend so want to avoid paying for another if I can but if I get bright red blood again I’m going to ring EPU and ask to be seen xx

stimpyyouidiot · 24/02/2022 20:03

@Carebear99

With my last one it was scan and blood test and that's it. It looks to be the same for me tomorrow.
annlee3817 · 24/02/2022 20:08

@Carebear99 I only saw the sonographer, no need to the midwife as wasn't having the screening due to the NIPT, so expect it will be the same for you

110APiccadilly · 24/02/2022 22:05

@Carebear99 Did you have your booking in appointment in person or over the phone? Because mine was over the phone, so I will see a midwife (for the first time!) after the scan. But that's just how it works for my area.

Carebear99 · 24/02/2022 22:40

Without being too graphic I had a good look down below with a mirror and torch and my vagina is really inflamed inside and I could see it bleeding, thankfully not coming full the cervix but the inner vagina walls. I will need to get something as this is to uncomfortable and painful. I've seen online, including full the NHS you can use canesten as below:

Thrush during pregnancy can be treated with cream or a tablet inserted in the vagina (a pessary) that contains clotrimazole or a similar antifungal drug. Normally, thrush can also be treated with antifungal tablets called fluconazole.

It says pessaries should be inserted with your fingers not the applicator to make sure it doesn't go in too far

annlee3817 · 24/02/2022 22:47

@Carebear99 can you contact your midwife and ask what you can use? They wouldn't sell me any thrush treatment at the chemist in my last pregnancy, I was obviously pregnant though so couldn't hide it annoyingly. Had to go through my midwife in the end

Carebear99 · 24/02/2022 22:54

@annlee3817 I've been told I can't independently contact the midwife until I'm 18 weeks and it has to be the gp before then. I might see if I can talk to someone when I'm there tomorrow morning, I do have the number for the midwife team but when I called the other day there was no reply. They also gave me an answerphone for the midwifey team but it links to the main hospital switchboard.
