I've told my close friends, my boss and our parents. No one else though, hoping to tell siblings next week, otherwise will tell close family only after 12 weeks and anyone else will be on a a need to know basis. Although I feel that our DD will just tell everyone!

@Dreamer30 They feel like very strong period cramps all across the front of my lower and mid stomach. I've tried going to the toilet, using a hot water bottle, taking paracetamol etc. The EPAU said they wouldn't be asking me to come in unless I'm soaking a pad within an hour. 😔 I have had some more pink tinged discharge just now but still not actual bleeding thankfully.

Dreamer30 · 07/02/2022 14:38

#handbagsandholidays glad you're not bleeding, I know that doesn't take the worry away though! EPAU response is always "unless you're bleeding or soaking through a pad in 10 minutes we won't see you" and it's just horrible. I know they're busy but even some advice from them would be reassuring. I hope you feel better soon, I'm still sore but not as bad as I was last night/this morning. It's hard not knowing what ia and isn't normal

We had a first scan on Saturday with a strong heartbeat so decided to tell my parents and my boyfriends parents, I told my sister and my partner is going to tell his brother this week. Otherwise we are waiting until 12 week just to be sure. I will probably tell work at the beginning of March when I have 1to1 with my manager, that will be 11 weeks.

Is anyone else still worried although early scan went well? I have UTI again, second time in 3 weeks and my GP decided to send off my urine sample to the lab to check it out.

annlee3817 · 07/02/2022 15:57

@Mags146 yep, I've got a scan tonight, last one was at 8+2, and today I'm 10+4, already a bit nervous

@annlee3817 fingers crossed for you!

madeleine85 · 07/02/2022 16:43

@holdonbaby I had my NIPT taken on Friday so just waiting for the results now, which is a bit nervewracking. I didn't realise that you can be automatically risk adjusted just for being older, so I am hoping that they don't come back high automatically based on me being 36.

@MOLWI I have told close friends and my sister, but not my parents as my mum tells everyone. It feels a bit mean, but her 70th is in mid April (she is impossible to buy for), so i'm wondering if she will be happy or kill me if I just wait till then and tell her as her present, and then she only has 3 months to wait. Now i'm almost 3 months i'm kind of like well she wouldn't know and doesn't see me because of location, so maybe it would be a nice birthday surprise, or i'll be dead as she has decided to kill me for not telling her lol. I'm going to tell work once we have the 12 week scan on the 17th and by then the NIPT results should be back.

Good luck to everyone geting scans this week, looking forward to all the pictures! x

Has anyone else been struggling with headaches.. mainly more so when the tiredness hits in the afternoon ( I just can not ever nap however much I try!)

annlee3817 · 07/02/2022 16:53

@madeleine85 they use age I think on the standard combined screening, but NIPT is more accurate so not calculated on age and nuchal translucency, just a high or low risk from what comes up on the blood test if that helps

Has anyone else had a random aversion to a place? I can suddenly no longer stand being in my kitchen. I think there are too many smells coming from there!

madeleine85 · 07/02/2022 17:33

@annlee3817 thank you, that helps a lot!

IzzyLeigh · 07/02/2022 18:56

@TotoAnnihiliation not random, but I do have a true aversion to the frozen aisles at the grocery store now, particularly the frozen vegetables section. I'm grossed out by most vegetables at the moment, but its weird because I have absolutely no problem hanging out in the fresh produce section—it's just the frozen section that makes me sick. I start gagging in under 30 seconds every time I try. So bizarre.

girafferafferaffe · 07/02/2022 19:01

Had my booking appt today. Went well - the midwife was lovely. For my first pregnancy the midwife couldn't give one shit about me and didn't even want to talk to me. Just barked questions at me and it was obvious she didn't want to be there.

They're referring me to the homebirth team to take me on. Low risk despite my bmi. Shouldn't stop me having a home birth though.

IzzyLeigh · 07/02/2022 19:38

@girafferafferaffe so glad it went well and that you have a much better midwife this time!

I've got my first scan on Wednesday at 7 a.m. and I'm sooo nervous. I'll be 7w 5d by then, so I'm really hoping to hear/see a heartbeat, although a good part of me is still convinced that something will be wrong on account of the spotting I had during week 5. I know that's totally normal, but rationality doesn't really have a place in any of this, does it?
The appt is at 7 a.m., so maybe I'll be too tired to be too anxious about?

madeleine85 · 07/02/2022 19:46

@girafferafferaffe that is amazing, congratulations!! i'd be totally in for the home birth especially with the cost of a hospital birth in the USA, but I think i'm too high risk as my daughter was so early. I really like the thought of doing it somewhere comfortable that you know, so I think you are onto something!

@IzzyLeigh I think that when you get there you will be answering questions/still getting awake, so I think it the pre scan morning time will fly by. With mine both times i've been so nervous, but not had time to think about it at the office. I remember with my DD I had the checking in apt and was so nervous I answered half the answers wrong on the paper. Wrote that I was an illegal drug user and all which couldn't be further from me. The nurse had a good laugh at my baby brain lol. Hope it goes well for you x

IzzyLeigh · 07/02/2022 20:01

@madeleine85 haha you wrote that you were an illegal drug user?! That's too funny! Grin Watch, I end up doing the same thing now haha
And that's a good point about probably being too distracted once I'm in the office. My 30-minute drive there is going to be a different story I think, though. Thankfully, my husband will be driving. I have a feeling I'll be far too anxious to drive that morning (and because it's going to be snowing a ton again too)!
And you're in the US too?! Where at!

madeleine85 · 07/02/2022 20:47

@IzzyLeigh definitely have your husband drive. Mainly so you can nap 😂. I’m in Los Angeles but originally from Glasgow, spent 8 years in nyc in the late 20s/early 30s where I met my husband. Are you here too?

annlee3817 · 07/02/2022 20:53

@girafferafferaffe glad you had a positive experience with the midwife, and that's great that you can have a home birth

IzzyLeigh · 07/02/2022 20:56

@madeleine85 yup! From Long Island, lived in Nashville for the past 8ish years, and now up in snowy Buffalo Smile

girafferafferaffe · 07/02/2022 21:07

I loved having a homebirth last time. I have white coat syndrome and I really panic about being in hospitals/dentists/doctors. It was lovely and calm but they definitely weren't prepared in the area we lived in. I was met with 'you want a WHAT?!' They didn't come and see my house until 38 weeks etc. Were shocked that I wouldn't just blindly go in because they said so. My new area has an entire homebirth team and they really do seem to be quite wonderful. She said that I should get a letter with a date for a scan sometime between 11-14 weeks so we shall see.

holdonbaby · 07/02/2022 21:21

@madeleine85 gosh sorry if I confused, the nipt is the way to go!
The nhs combined uses mums age which can make the risk result higher.

I'm 99% sure it's blood only used in the nipt.

holdonbaby · 07/02/2022 21:22

@girafferafferaffe lovely to hear your booking appointment went really well 😊

holdonbaby · 07/02/2022 21:23

@annlee3817 how was your scan?

holdonbaby · 07/02/2022 21:29

@handbagsandholidays how are you feeling now?

annlee3817 · 07/02/2022 21:33

@holdonbaby scan went great thanks, had the blood test for the NIPT, and they've measured me at 11+1 which gives me a due date of 28th August. They sent me 20 pictures and 4 videos, it was so thorough, and such a difference to the last scan, could see so much :)
