Oh really that's a shame, when my midwife called for my app she said we will have a listen to baby's heartbeat so I definitely know they will try. But I remember them saying last time with my daughter it can sometimes be hard to locate x

ChinChilly · 06/02/2022 17:53

@strawberrysummer19 my midwife told me they listen to it through the shoulder 🥺 which is why it can take a while to find. It's lovely though when they do find it.

strawberrysummer19 · 06/02/2022 21:37

@ChinChilly ohh that's interesting! Didn't know that! I'm hoping I feel more reassurance after Wednesday then I can enjoy this very little symptom ness ! Apart from the itchy boob ness my god that is sooo bad!

X

Hi all, bit of a random one - does anyone have a puppy/have experience of having a dog under 1 and a newborn? We got a puppy the same month we conceived (wasn't planned that way!) She's now 6 months and going through a bit of a phase with not wanting to sleep at night - last night she barked for 2 hours before she calmed down! My husband says we should let her sleep upstairs with us but I know we wouldn't be able to keep her off the bed and plan on having baby boy in a next2me crib to start with and I don't want puppy going near him while he's in there! Does anyone have any advise for getting puppy ready for baby?

Hope3821 · 06/02/2022 23:27

Hi @HopefulBeth
We have an 11 month old puppy and I'm a bit anxious about how he'll react to the baby in the house too, but I think with the right approach it'll be OK. From experience if you have sleep issues with the pup it's best to resolve them through training in my honest opinion. If you let them into the bed /bedroom your telling the pup that's OK and then when you need that space back or have to remove the puppy, it will be even more of a challenge for you and the puppy (they won't understand). It's sound like it could be separation anxiety? If you can help her learn to be be happy alone, your life will be easier that way trust me (and she'll be happier)! Puppies are hard work, I completely sympathise with you!! Positive training youtube channels and our dog walker have been soooooo helpful for us! I hope you find a way to calm your puppy x

Oh gosh absolutely don’t let her start sleeping with you and then kick her out when the baby gets here, you’re much better off trying to sort her issue now with training. There’s a dog board on here that normally gives quite good advice.

I’ve seen people play recordings of crying babies to dogs whilst pregnant to help desensitise them to the noise before the real deal arrives

ChinChilly · 07/02/2022 09:21

@HopefulBeth i Haven't got a puppy but we've got a labrador who will be 3 by the time baby is here. I wouldn't start any habits now that you will not want once baby is here, I agree with PP it sounds like she is suffering with abit of separation anxiety.

paintfairy · 07/02/2022 09:21

@HopefulBeth absolutely do not let the dog sleep upstairs with you, unless you plan on keeping it that way forever! You'll never get out of it. Problem is at that age they start getting more energy (think toddlers) and need stimulating enough in the day time.
My dog is 9 and sleeps downstairs. When we go away he never wants to sleep on his own and we've let him be in with us at night. And when we come home even that's a complete pain trying to get him to stay downstairs, after only a few days. And he knows he sleeps downstairs at home.

missv556 · 07/02/2022 09:22

@ChinChilly is your midwife at Shirley Road? I've got my whooping cough vaccine later, cba, not had a great sleep so not feeling the best today.

I got to have a listen to the heartbeat at my 16 week appointment. I didn't ask to so just thought it was standard practice everywhere

ChinChilly · 07/02/2022 11:00

@missv556 Yep that's where mine is, yours too? Such a small world! Must be something in the air I'm feeling crap today!

Coco9910 · 07/02/2022 11:44

I’m exhausted today! Really struggled to get up but I’m wondering if I just haven’t drunk enough water.

I have my 16 week appointment on Wednesday - what should I expect to happen at this appointment? I’m getting my whooping cough vaccine and they have said they will try and listen to baby’s heart beat so I’m hoping they can! Do you think I would be allowed to record the sound of it if they can hear it as my partner can’t come to my appointment with me. I’ve also seen on Emma’s Diary to ask the midwife for a labour information pack, would this be a good opportunity to ask for it?

Our dog is a year older than our eldest. He is a clingy mutt! He used to always sleep on our bedroom floor so we started training him to get a bit further away before baby came. We put a stairgate on our door so he could sleep on landing and see us but not come in. Overtime he started just choosing to go and sleep downstairs anyway.

With the second we just gave it all up! He would sleep on our bedroom floor again but if baby was up a lot he would do a grumbly woof and go downstairs haha! From when baby moved into cot (so in our room but not connected to bed) the dog gradually moved back closer. Sometimes he sleeps on foot of the bed but then he usually moves to floor/goes downstairs. But he is 4.5 now. Basically, it will be fine. But probably a good idea to start doing what you want to do now just because you'll have your hands full when baby arrives!

Hello everyone! Hoping it's ok to join this thread. I'm 16 weeks today, due 25th July with my first.

I've got my 20 week scan on 7th March and cannot wait to find out the sex (although guaranteed our little one will be awkward and we come out of it not knowing!)

I'm new to MN and am learning a lot! It's really nice to hear from people in the same position. Not many of my friends have kids and I'm the youngest in my whole family so I am absolutely winging this whole thing... god knows what will happen when baby is born. I mean what do you even do with newborns all day?! Grin so much to learn and I cannot wait

SamanthaVimes · 07/02/2022 13:48

@KizboBaggins most of the newborn days with my first were filled with feeding, nappies, Netflix and sitting in the garden! (Also a summer baby)

I know it can be really difficult depending on the temperament of individual baby but 2 weeks to about 4 months I had a really lovely time! (November lockdown was a lot less fun but hopefully that won’t happen again!)

Lianna93 · 07/02/2022 14:07

Hi ladies - been quiet the past few days. Had a lot on!
Had a good few days off my antisickness tablets, was full of energy, eating loads, managed to catch up on some chores & then Friday hit & I started being sick again 😩
Had a family wedding on the Saturday & had a 4 hour journey down... spewed the entire time, despite taking my tablets.
Nearly fainted at the wedding due to lack of sleep, fluids & food - because of the being sick. Got a good sleep Saturday night & Sunday managed to keep everything down only taking 1 tablet!
Haven't taken any today - so far so good 🤞🏻 But finding showers are setting me off & I'm dry heaving whilst showering 🙈😂
After 3 weeks on the sick, I'm due back to work on Wednesday- and I am nervous! 😂 No idea why.

Bought my travel system yesterday & realised, I'm gonna have to practice putting the car seat in & out my car & practice folding up the buggy cos I ain't folded a buggy since I was kid with one for my baby dolls 😬😂
It's beginning to feel super real & I can't believe I'm fast approaching the halfway mark!

Loving the chat about dogs! I have 2 cats that both love coming for a cuddle at night. My male cat sleeps on my stomach and now my bumps getting bigger, he's been even more affectionate with me 🥺 But for the safety of my baby, I'm gonna have start training them to sleep elsewhere - which I know they'll struggle with but I will too 😩 Had cats my whole life that have always slept on my bed with me (they help me sleep).

That sounds perfect! I will definitely be praying for that! I've got a labrador too, who will be 2 when baby comes so going to be fun juggling it all!

Definitely feel grateful it will be the summertime, lighter evenings and mornings I hope will make the lack of sleep feel a little bit easier!

ChinChilly · 07/02/2022 14:28

@KizboBaggins welcome! I'm just going to be winging it too! Does your labrador still act like a puppy? Ours is slowly starting to mature now and is actually quite lazy in the day.

@Lianna93 you did really well to manage a few days off the sickness tablets though, I'm yet to manage one day without them! Funny you say about showers setting you off because from the start I cannot stand the smell of tap water 🤮

KizboBaggins · 07/02/2022 15:06

@ChinChilly Hey! Ours is actually really good in the day now, he's 18 months tomorrow and he's so chill in the house, but I am currently averaging almost 2hrs of walks a day with him (3 walks a day) which I will never be able to maintain once baby is here and DH's paternity is over, so we'll just have to see how well behaved he is then! How old is your lab?

Ours is also a massively spoilt baby, so it's gonna hit him like a tonne of bricks when our little one joins the family!

ChinChilly · 07/02/2022 15:19

@KizboBaggins ours is well behaved aslong as he gets a good walk in the morning and evening, I'm hoping I'll still be able to get him out in the morning with baby in a sling maybe... he'll be 3 in the May and is also super spoilt but they are such loving family dogs I'm sure they'll both be fine 🙊

Lianna93 · 07/02/2022 15:22

@ChinChilly I'm fine when I first go in for a shower but if I'm not quick, I'm retching. Not sure if it's the heat making me feel this way or not but I'm fine once I'm out. Seem to handle a bath a lot better, so really not sure what causes it 😂

KizboBaggins · 07/02/2022 15:48

@ChinChilly I'm hoping the same. I think the exercise and fresh air will be good, plus I genuinely enjoy walking him (in summer more so!)

They are the best dogs. I'm so excited for my little one to grow up with him, they're going to have the best time!

ShellUK09 · 07/02/2022 16:17

@KizboBaggins my dog is a spoilt baby as well, he will get a shock in July! Mine is a 2 and a half year old miniature dachshund and he is very loving and protective. He thinks all toys are for him so will have to keep him well away from baby's toys!

KizboBaggins · 07/02/2022 16:47

@ShellUK09 yep sounds about right! Mine is absolutely glued to me. When I finally get on the sofa on an evening he won't settle until I'm sat in the "correct" place - so he can lay spread eagle across the entire sofa with me squashed in one corner with his head on my stomach.

Lianna93 · 07/02/2022 17:06

Anyone else getting pelvic pain? I could swear someone's kicked me between the legs 😂
My stomach feels like it weighs an absolute ton right now too 😬

KizboBaggins · 07/02/2022 19:00

@Lianna93 how far along are? I haven't got any pelvic pain thankfully but my belly is definitely starting to feel heavy too! Nice to finally be feeling pregnant and not just bloated Grin
