@SunStruck alfie is cute, I like it. My dad's called Alfred and he has been called alfie his whole life so I don't think it's too babyish at all.

I find boy names are so much harder to choose. Could probably rattle off at least 10 girl names that I find cute. Before I fell pregnant my sister dreamt that I had a little girl, she was so wrong 🤣🤣

paintfairy · 01/02/2022 10:19

I haven't posted on here yet but I've just read through and caught up. Its useful to see tips and things! I'm due 24th July. I can't believe how many people have bought prams etc already. I've bought nothing apart from maternity jeans (which are useless but neither can I get in my normal ones) and I've finally ordered a pregnancy pillow.
@namechangeanonymous I'm actually from the same place as you.

ChinChilly · 01/02/2022 10:48

@Lianna93 it's so annoying isn't it, we had some really unusual names where I worked, we had a girl who's name was princess 🤦🏻‍♀️

@missv556 I like Malakai, i think you have to go with whatever you and your OH like, you won't please everyone, it's hard when it's family that aren't keen though.

@paintfairy Hii, I'm due on the 16th and I haven't brought a thing yet, I've been eyeing up pushchairs, OH isn't impressed with the price of my first choice 🤣 so we'll see how that goes!

Is anybody finding it quite hard to actually go and look at things like pushchairs? Nowhere seems to have them all under one roof? We've had a look at a few in one of the big boots stores but they only really had icandy and silvercross and a few in the mamas and papas section of next but thats all I can see to find. Bring back mothercare!!! 🤣

namechangeanonymous · 01/02/2022 10:50

Yes I would adore for a whole shop of maternity clothes in the same place as the pushchairs and everything else we could need all under one roof.

Elsols93 · 01/02/2022 10:58

I’m struggling with names before finding out me and my partner agreed to have orla if baby was a girl (she is) as my little boy is Oliver and they go well together also means golden princess in Irish ( Im half Irish) now he don’t like it but won’t give me any ideas or turns his nose up at other names I suggest so frustrating 🙄🙄🙄

Effram · 01/02/2022 11:29

I found John Lewis good (this was pre covid maybe it's changed) as they had lots of different brands of buggies , and we booked a 'nursery appt' but asked only to talk about pushchairs and they did seem to know their stuff. They also price match anywhere and you get 1 year guarantee so easy to exchange anything !

Coco9910 · 01/02/2022 11:47

@missv556 I love Malakai and shortened to Kai is just so nice. I understand your sisters concerns, but you need to go with your heart.

@SunStruck Alfie is so cute and I don’t think it is baby-ish. It will grow with him.

I’m really struggling on boy names..me and my partner did that Kinder baby name all where we both swipe and it matches on names we both liked and we matched 1 boy name out of hundreds and we don’t even like that one that much 😂 it’s so difficult!

paintfairy · 01/02/2022 14:03

@ChinChilly I took DH into mamas and papas at the weekend, and I don't think he liked the price of anything! 🤣

ChinChilly · 01/02/2022 14:16

@paintfairy haha my OHs face dropped bless him, I was like how much do you think this stuff costs? A tenner? 🤣 bless them!

@Effram we used to have a huge John Lewis in Birmingham but it's closed down now we only have a small one in Solihull which has some bits but not alot 😤

Just had my 16 week appointment, heard the little heartbeat beating away 🥺 the midwife said she could hear him/her wriggling around aswell, obvs just sounded like muffles to me but it's always nice to hear.

namechangeanonymous · 01/02/2022 14:59

@paintfairy
Giltbrooke?
My DH needed a sit down after he realised how expensive prams were, he couldn't get over the whole travel system thing!

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 01/02/2022 15:07

Has anyone else not got an in person midwife appt until near to 30 wks? I was ok about having my first appointment over the phone, but feel that someone should probably be seeing me in person before then for BP / whooping cough vaccine etc! Or is this normal?

namechangeanonymous · 01/02/2022 15:17

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou
Can only talk about my surgery as it might vary area to area but that sounds very odd. Personally I had an 8 week in person followed by 16, I've got a consultant appointment at 18 which might not be relevant and my whooping at 21 think I next see midwife at 24.
Whose told you nothing until 30?

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 01/02/2022 15:21

@namechangeanonymous they text me my appointments, so I know my 16 week appt (tomorrow) is over the phone. Next one after that not til end of April when I'll be 29 weeks! Then nothing again til June...

Surely we need more frequent blood pressure / urine dips than that, if nothing else!

namechangeanonymous · 01/02/2022 15:42

Definitely to me sounds something is wrong there!! At 16 weeks my midwife wanted my blood pressure and pee

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 01/02/2022 16:11

Agreed! In fact, the only reason I’ve had booking in bloods is that they double checked I’d had them done at my 12 week scan and I said no!

paintfairy · 01/02/2022 16:12

@ChinChilly bless them indeed!
@namechangeanonymous yes. We went to IKEA so I dragged him in the baby shop whilst we were there. 🤣
@DrPrincessFluffyToYou no i don't think that sounds ideal either? My booking appointment was at 9 weeks and done in person. My next one is at 16 weeks and also in person. I also had a consultant appointment at 13 weeks, but that was at the hospital where the scans are.

ChinChilly · 01/02/2022 17:01

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou that does sound late to have your first in person midwife appointment. As you say they need to check your BP and pee, I had a urine infection and didn't know because the symptoms present differently when pregnant
All of mine have been in person, first at 8 weeks, 12 weeks scan and consultant then 16 weeks today.

Lianna93 · 01/02/2022 17:10

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou
It's definitely varying area to area but not to have anything until 30 weeks doesn't sound right to me.
This is my paperwork from maternity that shows me when to expect all my appointments- I'm up in central Scotland.

My next appointment is at 22 weeks where I'll get my whooping cough vaccine, urine tested, get my maternity forms & apply for my baby box.

Mattieandmummy · 01/02/2022 18:30

It's definitely changed in terms of appointments offered, with my first baby I saw my midwife every two weeks from 8 weeks until the last 3 weeks on being pregnant when it was weekly.

This time my first in person appointment wasn't until 16 weeks and there's no contact now until 25 weeks and that's only because I'm high risk. Otherwise it would be not until 28 weeks, I'm seeing a consultant in between but only because I'm high risk.

Jellybeann14 · 01/02/2022 19:05

Hi! Totally new to this, haven't quite figured out how to use it yet ha, I'm due 21st July! We have our anomoloy scan beginning of March, probably not going to find out baby's sex but would love if any of you have guesses to sex of baby, thanks!

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 01/02/2022 19:35

@ChinChilly That's more what I was expecting! I thought maybe fewer appointments than in non covid times, but not quite this few... I'm glad they picked up your UTI!

@Lianna93 that chart is helpful, thank you. I wonder if/how I can push them to see me in person. My husband starts a new job on Monday with good private health insurance, so perhaps I will just go private if it's an option

@Mattieandmummy I wonder why it's less frequent now? I am sure some of it is covid, but at the same time either it is safe to see pregnant women this infrequently or it isn't, and covid doesn't change that. I hope there is some research I am unaware of that means the policy has changed in line with safety guidance...

Can I ask what your symptoms were? Just been put on antibiotics for a UTI although the culture isn’t back yet from the lab!

JJ1992 · 01/02/2022 20:20

@ChinChilly we actually had to travel to get a drcent pram shop, we were away for the weekend and went into john lewis and m&p, John lewis were much kore helpful with prams, the saleswoman was great and really listened to what we were looking for. Would definitely recommend going in even if its just to look before you buy. Also we looked at boots, john lewis and m&p and found that the prices were almost exactly the same in all 3 which is useful to know, saves shopping about!

Mattieandmummy · 01/02/2022 20:53

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou I think it's to with midwife shortages. We were in East London when I had my first so if anything you'd expect the care to have been worse there than in Buckinghamshire where we are now.

ChinChilly · 01/02/2022 21:09

@HatHatHat I didn't really have any, Occasionally I'd get the sudden urge to go but then not alot would come out, my first sample there wasn't any culture growth but the second sample had heavy growth.

@JJ1992 I think we will have to travel somewhere to have a decent look, even the nursery furniture is difficult, it's hard to know if you're buying a sturdy piece of furniture by photos online. I have noticed the prices on certain brands are fairly standard which does save alot of hassle
