@Coco9910 thank you for your opinion! Haha we also did the kinder thing and only matched on one we didn't like much (apart from Sebastian we can probably not use and Alfie we already knew) 🤣 even paid for premium to get more names, what a waste of money 😬

@Elsols93 I love Oliver and Orla, really nice combo!!!

AppleTree16 · 02/02/2022 07:22

@Mattieandmummy where in Bucks are you (I’m in Bucks too)? I’ve saw my midwife in person at 10 weeks, have a 16 week one this week in person and expect to see her every few weeks after that (according to the schedule she gave me). So weird that you are having such a different experience.

missv556 · 02/02/2022 07:35

I'm another that had an in person midwife appointment at 16 weeks, had it yesterday. My blood pressure and urine were checked and that cant be done over the phone. My sister is a midwife and she says generally they like to see women about once every 4 weeks during pregnancy (a mix of hospital appointments and community midwife) so that's a hell of a long wait. My next midwife appointment will be around 25 weeks and then my midwife said they will become even more frequent towards the end. I would query waiting for so long cos doesn't sound right at all

Mattieandmummy · 02/02/2022 07:42

@AppleTree16 I'm in Princes Risborough. I'm already pretty worried about this pregnancy, I saw my midwife yesterday and asked to transfer my care to the John Radcliffe as there's a fair few complications this time around and was told they are only accepting people who live in Oxfordshire. At my booking appointment I was told I had a choice of either. So my options are Stoke Mandeville or I could self refer to the hospital I had my first at East London but my midwife refused to help with that option. Stoke Mandeville doesn't have a high risk NICU unit and JR does and I am terrified of giving birth without a high risk NICU unit after what happened to my daughter. Been up most of the night worrying myself about it and crying.

Was also told by my midwife that my mental health isn't severe enough to be a priority for the well being team and they were probably too busy even though I was referred at my booking appointment.

Elsols93 · 02/02/2022 08:56

I also had a face to face appointment at 9 weeks & 16 weeks and have another at 25 weeks then I think it’s every few weeks up untill she comes, I would not be happy with just a phone call you want to hear baby and have your bp and wee checked it’s ridiculous - stand your ground and hopefully you get somewhere xxx

Effram · 02/02/2022 10:29

@Mattieandmummy I'm sorry you are feeling so uncared for, that midwife does not sound great - I would request to change!

The schedule does sound similar to here for 2nd babies - with my 2nd I had booking f2f then 16 weeks was on the phone, they did urine/bloods at my scans but the next time I saw a midwife was f2f28 weeks. However, if you are requesting more care and information they should be providing that.

Hopefully the consultant will be able to get you moved to the hospital you want to be at as it sounds like you have history and a good reason to do this!

I wonder if a Doula or someone trained in birth rewind might be able to help you process some of what happened before so you can feel better about this one? Doulas can also help advocate you and provide more personal care (not medical, but support with working out what you want/need and accessing it?). Can't believe the threshold for mental health support was deemed too high for you. If someone is asking for it, surely that is enough! Lots of love.

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 02/02/2022 11:12

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have my phone appt today, so will ask there about F2F appts and if I've been missed off any! If no luck, I might send PALS a quick email. This is my first so they've no idea if I'm higher risk for e.g. pre-eclampsia or not.

@Mattieandmummy that sounds really tough. Have you had a debrief about your first birth? I hear they can be helpful. It might also be worth waiting to speak to your consultant about having care moved to the John Radcliffe? Might be more sympathetic / knowledgeable about the risk of your baby needing NICU post birth...

Mads96 · 02/02/2022 13:44

@Mattieandmummy @AppleTree16 I'm in Bucks too, I have had F2F appointments for booking in, 16 weeks and next seeing my midwife at 24 weeks so quite regular. This is my second baby too so you don't see the midwife as often however my midwife is lovely and says if I'm ever worried I can go see her

Mattieandmummy · 02/02/2022 14:42

@Effram @DrPrincessFluffyToYou @Mads96 I didn't actually know I could change midwives, thanks for that and for all your kind words. I'm sure she's very capable but she's quite brusque and this is something I need my hand held over really.

I have had loads of counselling before this about the circumstances of my daughter's birth and we did have a birth review - it hasn't really helped unfortunately. PTSD is quite hard to shake in my case.

Waiting to speak to the consultant I think is the most sensible option. I think I just let it all get on top of me yesterday, it was the first midwife I had actually seen and then it was just all too much. At my booking in appointment I was told that if I couldn't handle seeing a midwife I could just see the consultant - I think I might ask to go down that route.

CaptainCarp · 02/02/2022 15:59

This thread has moved on fairish!

I know children called Xavier, Noah, Orla & Oliver. I quite like Malakai (Kai), wouldn't think ghetto if i met 1!

I'm trying not to buy too much which isn't the easiest when all the supermarkets seem to have a baby event on at the moment 😂

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou I have had in person midwife appointments at 10 & 16 weeks.. At 16 the did BP & urine dips so not sure how that could be done on the phone!
I don't have another appointment until 28 weeks though.

Anyone else not really feeling baby move yet?
I'm 18+2 & think i felt baby move last week when after it decided to jab me in the back & then there was some strange sensations just before the pain went... But nothing since

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 02/02/2022 16:56

Nothing @CaptainCarp :(
I’m 18+6 and really trying hard to feel “something”, anything, flutters, gas bubbles, something. But nada

ShellUK09 · 02/02/2022 17:10

Been quiet lately as had nothing to report. Had my face to face 16 week appointment today at 16 weeks two days, and all was well which was a relief. Also was taken aback when she said "right let's hear the heartbeat then!" Wasn't really expecting that but it was incredible to hear 🥰 and put my mind at ease as it is a while between scans. Going to book in a private gender scan soon as the end of February feels too far away to wait! It feels mad that the next midwife appointment is booked for April! It's all feeling more real after today.

WotsitMum · 02/02/2022 17:16

Just tested positve for covid 😥 im 17+1, anything i should look out for/ tips/ reccomendations? Feeling like crap, hot and cold sweats, headache, not keeping food down and im so tired 😔 ive got a 15 month old so cant rest constantly, i think im in for a long 6-10 days

ChinChilly · 02/02/2022 19:24

@CaptainCarp I thought I felt some popping the other day but on reflection i think it was just gas 🤣

@WotsitMum oh no, that's rubbish! Hope your feel better soon! I think you just need to keep an eye on your temperature, maybe take some paracetamol just incase one creeps up.

namechangeanonymous · 02/02/2022 19:28

@WotsitMum I can't exactly remember what my midwife said but can I gently encourage you to contact your midwife? There was something different to do with tests and I'm sure she said they give soke sort of medication. Sorry I can't remember more precisely.

SamanthaVimes · 02/02/2022 19:36

@WotsitMum hope you feel better soon! When I had covid my midwife sent me one of those oxygen things you put on your finger to keep an eye on my blood oxygen, they might do the same in your area.

WotsitMum · 02/02/2022 19:42

@ChinChilly @namechangeanonymous @SamanthaVimes thank you, i have text my midwife to let her know and let her know of my symptoms, shes not replied but i guess she will in the morning. Im on asprin im guessing i continue to take it?

CaptainCarp · 02/02/2022 20:01

@HotToddyColdSauvignon @ChinChilly it makes me feel a bit better that it's not just me not feeling them. Midwife asked if I had felt anything at 16 weeks so was trying not to get anxious that 2 weeks later I still wasn't feeling it.

The strange sensations felt a lot like gas! 😂 But it erm.. Didn't "come out" if you get me.
My stomach changed shape a little as well so I assumed it was baby moving.

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 02/02/2022 20:05

@WotsitMum second trimester is probably the best time in the pregnancy you could have caught it, if that’s any consolation. I’m sure your midwife will give you good advice, but here’s hoping you have a very mild case 🤞

After all my issues with F2F appointments, my midwife didn’t even call me today for my 16 week appointment. I phoned to see what happened, and they just said “oh, yeah they’ll probably call you another day, not sure which day but it’ll be sometime between 9 and 5”. I’ve already wasted two days waiting 9-5 with my phone on loud and not calling anyone else while waiting for a call! Angry I will definitely be seeing what PALS say.

strawberrysummer19 · 02/02/2022 20:16

I'm 15wks and today my nausea has returned
All starting with smelling an over powering air freshener in the office that I had to move !

I couldn't stand fabric conditioner or detergent early pregnancy and this smell set me off
I've had dinner and still feel sick now

I had bad nausea 7wks-13wks where it has very slowly died down but today feels like it's back

Anyone else? X

CaptainCarp · 02/02/2022 20:16

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou that's terrible! I hope you get sorted soon

OP posts:
ChinChilly · 02/02/2022 20:20

@CaptainCarp I would say that sounds like movement!

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou that sounds really frustrating! Feels like a complete lack of care.

@Strawberrysummer19 my sickness is still up and down, the midwife did say to me yesterday if you've had bad sickness you don't normally feel better until about 20 weeks 😬😩

namechangeanonymous · 02/02/2022 20:22

I just think this glowy pregnancy non wrenching non feeling icky is a myth to lure us into having babies ha

NamelessBaby1 · 02/02/2022 21:04

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou that's so rubbish, can't believe how tough a time you're having getting appointments and whatnot! It's such an unsettling time as it is without getting the right support from healthcare too.

@namechangeanonymous haha that wouldn't surprise me! Mostly the nausea has gone for me but I just have no energy at all at the moment, feel constantly knackered!

CaptainCarp · 02/02/2022 22:07

@namechangeanonymous i think you may be right... I'm just feeling shattered at the moment but mostly mentally so i struggle to remember a 3 lone shopping list after a day at work. 🤦‍♀️
