@MrsNT

Re cot mattresses, we bought a Stokke Sleepi cot (which converts into a cot bed) second hand and I got a really lovely mattress from the Little Green Sheep Company. Not cheap, but I saved about £300 or so on the crib, so I felt more comfortable spending a bit more on a really good mattress that was breathable and had no synthetics etc. Would highly recommend their mattresses, but, again, not cheap.

@mrsnt that's useful to know - stuffy pregnancy nose is so frustrating, and I suspect will worsen with hayfever season...

unknownscot · 09/01/2022 16:30

I've had a lot of pressure/pain/not sure how to describe it lower left abdomen and worse when I'm peeing.
I have the consultant on Thursday- should I wait and mention it then or call tomorrow? Not sure if it's a big issue to just wait until Thursday.

X

Vimto1991 · 09/01/2022 16:32

@MrsNT thanks so much! I’ll ask DH to pick one up tomorrow :D

Rolledthedice · 09/01/2022 16:37

@MrsNT thanks for sharing the spray! I wonder if it might help my blocked ear. Might give it a go. I’ve had this blocked ear for two months now. Have a feeling it’s here to stay as the balloon thing I was told to try doesn’t seem to do much. Oh well! I figure there are worse symptoms to put up with! Hope your sinus sorts itself out and that all the ladies with headaches or migraines get some relief soon.

GrowBabyGrow · 09/01/2022 16:43

@unknownscot could be worth seeing if your doc will do a urine culture test just to check it's not a UTI? I've had the same sort of pain/discomfort recently and the urine results were all clear but best to be on the safe side.

I had thought possibly a UTI, just not convinced it is.
But I'll maybe ring the gp tomorrow anyway x

When did you start buying stuff for the baby? I wasn't planning on buying anything yet but we've seen a few outfits on sales at a great value and my mam suggested to get them, but I'm afraid of "tempting fate" 😅 I'm about to start week 16.

rathernotshare · 09/01/2022 17:03

@Lostintranslatio I bought my first bits today, I'm almost 19 weeks. I planned to wait until the 20 week scan but I got some bargains at morrisons!

How many of each size would people who've had kids before recommend buying? I'd rather buy more and not be panic washing, I'm not planning on many outfits more 'Chuck this baby grow on' and done 😂

Lostintranslatio · 09/01/2022 17:43

@rathernotshare thanks a million! I know it is silly as I already have some family friends knitting clothes for my baby, but it feels different if I buy them so early 😂

I also join the question about the clothes, as I have no idea how to dress a baby born (especially in the variable Irish summer weather🙄). I have thought of getting a bunch of vests and sleepers to be at home, and maybe few nicer outfits for more "special plans" or walks. But really no idea what a baby born needs 😂😂

Brightsmoke · 09/01/2022 18:33

Clothing really depends on baby and how often you plan on doing a wash. My son wasn't sickly and had minimal poonamis, so we wore a sleep suit at night and an outfit/sleep suit for the day. He was born in May, and looking back at photos, he was in a vest and baby grow at night and similar for the day, sometimes just a cute vest and trousers. I've planned roughly 20 sleep suits and vests, which should hopefully be a weeks worth of clothes so I have no washing pressures. I don't think we did new baby clothes at all, and just went straight to 0-1 month which swamped him 😅

I wouldn't plan on clothes 'for best' unless you have an actual event. You inevitably end up putting it on them as they grow out of that size, and they wear them once!

My boy slept in a next to me, in a sleepyhead with a cellular blanket wrapped around the sleepyhead when he was tiny. He was in a sleeping bag without the blanket by 3months.

MrsNT · 09/01/2022 18:52

Are u ladies getting new born sizes aswell or going straight to 0 to 3 size? If getting new born size would 6 7 be enough and rest 0 to 3

@unknownscot Id probably get checked for a UTI they seem to have lots of weird symptoms or none at all. Also, when they have only dip tested my urine it has never shown an infection but then did in the lab so worth asking it to be sent off. I think I might have one now so I'll ring dr tmw and insist it gets sent to lab, I'm prone to them in pregnancy

Prema112 · 09/01/2022 20:31

Is anyone else still feeling really worried about things going wrong? I'm nearly 20 weeks and I feel like I'm counting the hours until my baby would be viable if born early. I have no real basis for my worry (except vaginal/cervical pressure) but sometimes I feel so overwhelmed with anxiety. I wish I could relax but finding it very hard to

yellowpinkbluegreen · 09/01/2022 22:01

@PeeAche

Me every night:

"Is that the baby? Can I feel it? Omg. I think it's the baby.

Or it's wind.

Baby?

... Wind?

Please be baby. Lie still. Relax."

~farts~

"Wind."

THIS 🤣 sooooo relatable. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
MsBubbles85 · 09/01/2022 22:11

@MrsNT I have some newborn but most of the clothes I have bought are 0-3 months and some 3-6 months. My mum has gone overtop with baby clothes and as we are having a baby girl I am able to reuse some of my clothes that my mum kept and are perfect.
I have tested positive for covid today and will call tomorrow the midwife to rearrange my appointment from Friday to Friday the week after. At least the only symptom I have is a blocked nose and sometimes a runny one and I feel a bit more tired. I hope all will be fine with the baby, I had a scan on the 5th and everything was fine!!

CurryandSnuggle · 09/01/2022 23:56

Sorry guys, I’ve been so busy lately I feel I’ve neglected you all and it’s so hard to keep up. I have been lurking as best I can!

Had to post my exciting news today, I am 19+2 and I felt the baby kick externally for the first time!! It was so hard it made me jump so I put my hand where the kicking was and could feel it against my hand! Amazing 🤩 did not expect so early!

RoseValleyRambles · 10/01/2022 00:05

@curryandsnuggle That's so cool! Great news.

jennixxx · 10/01/2022 00:34

@CurryandSnuggle that's amazing!!!

Rolledthedice · 10/01/2022 01:05

Aww @CurryandSnuggle that’s wonderful! :)

Rolledthedice · 10/01/2022 01:15

I’m still debating whether a pregnancy pillow might be useful / needed soon. Those who have tried them - are they worth it? I’m naturally a side sleeper so not had an issue yet.

Also any recommendations for decent 65cm Pilates / birthing ball? I need one for zoom Pilates!

Olive60 · 10/01/2022 04:07

@prema112 yes! I was like this with my first and recently started again. I honestly use to count down the days in my head to "safety" and after. I even remember getting to 30+ and still going through "If baby was born now..." thoughts. It never stopped.

Olive60 · 10/01/2022 04:12

I'd recommend buying some newborn baby clothes from my own experience.
Just a couple of "just in cases" for the hospital bag. Then an emergency online shop/send out family if more is needed!

Every MW appointment towards the end I was always told "oh its big baby!" Evvvvverytime they'd feel. Ended up being induced at 42 weeks and baby was only on the 4th centile! Had to call my family to do an emergency early baby clothes shop as everything I had swamped her! Even newborn!

Olive60 · 10/01/2022 04:23

Sorry for the triple post! Wide awake as always through this!

Anyone getting any cravings!?

I'm thinking I may now have got one! Soup! I HATE soup. I dont think I've ever even bought it since leaving home years ago.
My mum did a doorstop delivery yesterday due to dd & dp being confirmed positive and called saying shes bought dd some fresh soup (which she didn't want) ... I ended up having one for lunch and the other for dinner! Now I'm laid here all I can think about is how much I could eat more now and all day tomorrow!

With my daughter I craved all Savoury. I lived off olives (still do! ) but I couldn't stand or stomach them before her. And tomato-ey based dishes like lasagne, chilli, pasta sauce which tomato based dishes aren't my favourite usually.
