@Sarah239 exactly - I would have thought you should be supportive no matter how that person chooses to go through their pregnancy. If they want a scan every 2 weeks, they’re well within their rights to do that. I think she just thinks that private scans are a waste of money. I would normally confide all my feelings in her but I feel like she’ll just tell me to “think more positively” which just winds me up. My husband is a really positive person but he doesn’t try to make me feel silly for being negative or nervous.

I totally agree everyone is entitled to their own choice as to whether they find out the sex or not too. It’s a very personal decision and some people just don’t mind either way

robyna · 16/11/2021 14:00

@EastMidsGem I've been asked why I want to find out the sex of my baby if I don't care either way if it's a boy or a girl and I was like... because I wanna know? 😂 just because I'm happy either way doesn't mean I'm not impatient

EJLM · 16/11/2021 14:47

I'm feeling this at the moment @robyna we didn't find out with our first and I am this time because this is out last baby and I would like to experience both but people are now assuming as I have a boy I'm finding out cause i want a girl which is not the case as long as baby is healthy I'm happy!

fattycatty82 · 16/11/2021 14:55

@Sarah239 mine is Xmas eve too! It's soooo exciting 😊

Minster2012 · 16/11/2021 15:53

@robyna I'm impatient and like to plan too so just want to know that's all!

robyna · 16/11/2021 16:56

@EJLM it's ridiculous isn't it, just because I want to know doesn't mean I care either way! I'm just curious

@Minster2012 agree, it'd be nice to start to plan names and nurseries etc!

fattycatty82 · 16/11/2021 17:01

Is it wrong to care either way though? At my 12 week scan I mentioned about the nub theory as I was curious to know what the sonographer thought about it and whether it worked (she was very non committal) and I mentioned that I really wanted a boy... the other lady in the room piped up with the usual 'well as long as it's healthy' and well of course, it goes without saying that I want my baby to be healthy.... but I also want it to be a boy! I wanted a girl before and I got one so fingers crossed it goes my way again. Does anyone think it's bad to have a preference and be open about it?

Jowd92 · 16/11/2021 18:23

I think everyone just wants there baby to be healthy and all okay but I do think everyone always has a preference on what they would like if they admit it or not I currently have 3 boys and 1 girl but 2 younger boys with my now partner so a girl would be lovely and all the kids also are hoping for a girl but I have told them not to get there hopes up as I’m convinced its another boy haha will be having a private scan early next month and all kids will be there so we find out together and I think it’s lovely

Minster2012 · 16/11/2021 19:31

@fattycatty82 no def not a problem to have a preference & say it! I've said I'd love a girl, we have a boy but also in our families there are 6 other (children) boys, no girl. So yeah I'd definitely prefer a girl.

Had my first consultants appointment & an antenatal consultant & an endocrine consultant was there too, having listened to my history they immediately said they'd like a planned c section for me so that's already decided, at 13 weeks 😳but I know it's for the best for me & baby as they said I could cause tearing in my internal scars if I bear down to push

robyna · 16/11/2021 19:47

@fattycatty82 not at all! My partner would absolutely love a girl but he'd be over the moon if it was a boy too. There's nothing wrong with wanting one more than the other because everyone knows you're happy that baby is healthy.

AMM86 · 16/11/2021 20:14

Hey everyone.
I’ve been wanting to join the fb group after I got past the 12 week scan but I can’t find the link?

Etonmess20 · 16/11/2021 20:40

@AMM86 search for "Due May 2022 UK" on Facebook. There's also links in there for local WhatsApp groups too which are nice (although no one else as local to me as you in there 😂)

GinnyBee · 16/11/2021 20:43

Has anyone else noticed cloudy pee? I noticed it this morning so have been to the GP to give a urine sample, the test strip was clear but she sent it off to the lab to double check anyway. I don't have any other symptoms of infection though. But I did notice from the sample that whilst it had cleared up from this morning, I could see little bit of what looked like white 'dust' floating in it, anyone have a clue what it could be?

Pregnancy is so weird.

@GinnyBee I've just finished antibiotics from a UTI that wasn't picked up on a strip & was only picked up when sent to the lab by the midwife. I did have mild symptoms but not horrendous. The antibiotics made me feel worse than the UTI though 😂

AMM86 · 16/11/2021 21:26

@Etonmess20 thank you! Sent a request! I wasn’t sure which one it was 🤦🏼‍♀️

Etonmess20 · 16/11/2021 21:31

@AMM86 glad you managed to find it! I joined the London group on WhatsApp by the way x

My 20 week scan is on 15 December. We've booked flights to see DH's family in the US a week later and I'm nervous about having to cancel in case something comes up on the scan.

I've not paid for any additional scans but I splurged on an NIPT so I suppose I've paid to feel more reassured in that sense. I've had genetic issues come up before, but never had a miscarriage so I'm more nervous about those. Scans wouldn't reassure me much in that case.

Welcome @H0peing! I've found out I'm having a girl (the gender result is included in the NIPT test which is for genetic abnormalities), I found out at 12 weeks. I would have been happy either way, but as I already have a DD I think it will be nice for her to have a sister, and nice for us to be able to pass on DD's clothes!

H0peing · 16/11/2021 23:08

@TashieWoo Thanks!Smile How did your 16 week appointment go? I hope it went really well!

I think I've felt movements but I already have a 5yo and I've heard that some mums feel the movements earlier after their first child. It's only quite mild movements though. I am really looking forward to feeling big, regular kicks and seeing body parts bulging out of my belly lol xx

H0peing · 16/11/2021 23:21

@Minster2012 ThanksSmile I think I'll try to book a private scan at around 18 weeks, mainly to check that my baby is well before 20 weeks as I'm happy either way with a boy or girl but I would still love to find out the gender then to start thinking of names and buy some cute pink things if it's a girl as most of my son's old clothes say things like 'Little Man' on them lol xx

H0peing · 16/11/2021 23:41

@GinnyBee Thank-you!Smile

Yes, the money you've saved definitely justifies the splurge in my opinion! I also had a few early reassurance scans at EPU but I still had a couple of private reassurance scans before my 13 week NHS scan. It was a stretch financially but I was just really worried at the time. I found my private scans were extra special and I even got a movie clip of the 11 week ultrasound to keep of our baby moving around during our scan, which I often watch. It was at Window to the Womb but I guess lots of companies probably offer that. I'm hoping to feel a lot more relaxed about the gaps between scans after my 20 week scan due to feeling regular kicks etc then. Xx

H0peing · 16/11/2021 23:48

@EastMidsGem I completely understand wanting extra scans, especially when you've had problems before. I hope you have a really lovely view of your baby moving around at your scan this Friday. X

H0peing · 16/11/2021 23:58

I think it's fine to be open about having a preference and most people seem to, especially if they already have a daughter so are eager to find out what it's like to have a son or vice versa. Obviously we will all love our babies either way. Xx

H0peing · 17/11/2021 00:04

@GinnyBee I had cloudy pee once...with what looked like white dust but when I spoke to someone on NHS 111 they said that it could be from DTD the night before! Sorry if this is TMI but they said it could be semen and I was fine for every wee after that with no other symptoms. The next time the midwife tested my urine it was fine but it seems extremely helpful that it's been sent off to a lab to double check anyway! Xx

H0peing · 17/11/2021 00:10

@morphe Thanks!Smile Congratulations on finding out that you'll be having your second DD and yes it will be helpful to pass on your other daughter's clothes. We've saved nearly all of my sons clothes just in case we have another boy. Xx

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 17/11/2021 06:44

@GinnyBee I had cloudy pee for weeks! When I looked online it said it was due to hormones.

Got my 12 week scan today and I'm absolutely terrified 😢 please send me your positive vibes 😌
