Hiyaaaa! I didn't see a new one yet and thread 2 has 1000 posts now and has closed. Tagging everyone from the last page of previous thread. Sorry if any regulars were missed out!

@minster2012 a friend of mine has had 2 c-sections and said I should ask for one! She is very positive about them and said it's really nice knowing the exact day you're having a baby!

GinnyBee · 15/11/2021 11:05

I'm going to ask for an ELCS. I've never really had any desire to experience childbirth, I was even dead against ever being pregnant and wanted to adopt instead for a looooong time, and then by some dumb luck everyone I know well enough to have shared their birth experiences with me have had something go wrong, from tearing to forceps to EMCS and almost dying. And everyone who has had an ELCS raves about how stress free and straightforward it was. So now I'm even more sure I don't want to risk it.

When I had my daughter I would have loved to have had a c section because I was only 17 and terrified of giving birth! I was so scared it was all I could think about, but back then you couldn't ask for a c section unless there was a really good medical reason. I have to say, I wouldn't have changed it for the world. I had an amazing epidural which was done perfectly so I wasn't in any pain (apart from right at the very end but that really wasn't too bad) and I could feel just enough to know what I needed to do. I didn't have any injuries down below (which I am terrified about happening this time) and I was up and about leaving the hospital early the next morning. A positive birth experience is possible! I'm convinced I won't be so lucky this time around though and I have thought about asking for a c section 🤦‍♀️ The recovery time worries me though. Can you really choose now? Or do you have to really push (excuse the pun) for a section?

Hi all, have been more or less lurking on this thread as I’ve had three previous miscarriages and anxiety has been high. But I’ve just had my 12 week scan; I’m measuring 13+1 which is bang on with my dates and everything looks good, so I feel my odds are no worse than anyone else's from here!

itssquidstella · 15/11/2021 12:25

Meant to say EDD of 22nd May :)

AllyCat31 · 15/11/2021 14:14

Hey guys, rejoining the thread as basically lost track of the old ones. Scan this week even though I’m about 15 weeks now cause baby wasn’t in the right position for all the checks. Still told everyone as had a few scans now and all seems okay so far.
How’s everyone feeling? I’ve still got nausea and still need lunch time naps. Very lucky I’m not in the office yet, still wfh

GinnyBee · 15/11/2021 14:23

@fattycatty82 According to NICE guidelines you can request one and as long as a consultant has explained all the risks and you still want it they're supposed to approve it. In practice though I think there will be a few midwives and junior doctors in the way first to try to change your mind before even seeing the consultant.

I know positive birth experiences are possible, I just don't really like the odds, it seems like more often than not something goes wrong. For example official NHS stats from 2019-2020 are that 41% of women experience some tearing. Also the chances of needing an EMCS goes up with age, and IIRC it was almost 30% for my age bracket. That's just too high for my liking!

I hope that doesn't scare anyone though! I have a tendency to be a bit of a control freak and with birth you can't predict what will happen and that really bothers me.

fattycatty82 · 15/11/2021 14:39

@GinnyBee I think that's exactly it isn't it, the lack of control. And to some extent a section gives you that including time/day it's actually going to happen! xx

Minster2012 · 15/11/2021 14:42

@itssquidstella we are due date buddies! ☺️

Minster2012 · 15/11/2021 14:42

And @GinnyBee I will be requesting a c section if I don't get offered it, but I'm very sure I will be put down for a section anyway (despite it being first child) cos of all my health issues

itssquidstella · 15/11/2021 14:44

@Minster2012 how exciting! Is this your first baby? How are you feeling? I’m not feeling nauseous anymore but I’m still knackered and sleeping badly. Really hoping I start to get that second trimester glow soon!

Minster2012 · 15/11/2021 14:50

@itssquidstella it's my first time carrying a child, we have a son (3) who was carried by my best friend as a host surrogate when I was undergoing years of chemo, but like you I've had a MMC & a MC now this is my third pregnancy so I totally get the anxiety 😟

itssquidstella · 15/11/2021 14:52

Oh wow, you've been through the wars! Lovely that you already have a DS, though - I bet he'll be excited to have a sibling!

Keeping everything crossed for you this time :)

KMHH · 15/11/2021 17:54

Has anyone been feeling dizzy/light headed? I've been feeling light headed the last week and today I actually passed out whilst at the vets 🙈 apparently this is completely normal. Getting everything checked on Wednesday but just wanted to see if anyone else has been through the same x

H0peing · 15/11/2021 22:48

Hello everyoneSmile

I hope it's OK for me to join this thread.
I was given a due date of 10th May 2022 at my 13 week scan. I'm 15 weeks tomorrow. I have my 16 week Midwife appointment booked next Monday and a 16 week scan with a consultant next Friday.

Is everyone planning to find out if it's a boy or a girl at their 20 week scan? Or has anyone found out already? I might book to have a private scan before 20 weeks and find out then. It looks like you can find out from 16 weeks with a private scan for about £50. Not sure yet but I definitely want to find out. Xx

@KMHH Yes, I've been feeling very light headed this week. I read up about it online then I tried the tips I read (drinking more water and putting my feet up / kerping my feet elevated) and those tips have seemed to be helpful for me. X

TashieWoo · 16/11/2021 07:01

Welcome @H0peing! I am planning on a private scan next week at 17 weeks to find out the gender. I wasn’t fussed about whether we found out or not (was leaning more towards having a surprise) but DP really wants to find out and I don’t think it’s right for me to make all the decisions.

I have my 16 week appointment this afternoon, has anyone had theirs yet? I’m so nervous that the midwife won’t be able to find the heartbeat and I don’t think my bump has got much bigger since last week, but when I had a quick scan in A&E last Wednesday (went in for an tummy bug that was getting worse and paranoid about listeriosis) all was fine, so hopefully it’s just me worrying too much. Also I don’t know what is bump and what is bloating after my illness last week (which I’m not 100% from), and what is movement and what is other random feelings!

Has anyone felt any movement yet?

Jowd92 · 16/11/2021 07:02

Yes I will be having a private scan at 16 weeks which isn’t until early December my other children are very eager to find out well the older ones should I say haha can’t wait be nice for them to be able to see the scan and we all find out together

Minster2012 · 16/11/2021 07:51

ThNk you @itssquidstella and you too 🤞🏻😊

Welcome @H0peing, I am keen to find out but DH not bothered, I would like to have a scan around 16/17 weeks to find out but DH away all the week of the 16 weeks so that's annoying. I'm going to leave it a bit & see how I feel but my 20 week scan will be into the first week of jan so I think it would be nice to know for Xmas 🎄 I think it's similar timing to @Jowd92

Did a couple ppl say you got their 20 week scan through already at around 14 weeks?

Minster2012 · 16/11/2021 07:52

I d got my first consultant appointment today (obs gynae) so bit worried about that. Lot of history to go through

Jowd92 · 16/11/2021 07:59

I have my date for my 20 week scan the first week of January I think it’s because I’m under consultant I already have all my appointments booked like gtt and my growth scans and my mw appointment is next month altho when I had my 12 week scan because I had consultant straight after I ended up being down the hospital for 4 hours in total was a long day

GinnyBee · 16/11/2021 09:24

Welcome @H0peing and congratulations! :)

We will find out at the 20 week scan if baby is cooperating, but if the position is awkward and they can't see reliably then that's no issue either. I'm not dead set on finding out but also not set on keeping it secret either, the scan will tell!

I also don't know whether we might want another scan in between now and NYE when we have the 20-week scan. As I had three early reassurance scans at the EPU this time that's saved us having to book private scans early, so maybe justified to splurge on a private scan now? I don't know.

Minster2012 · 16/11/2021 09:41

That's interesting to know @Jowd92 so I may get mine after today. I've got a call with the anaesthetic team next week, but would be good to find out when the scan is so I can decide on an extra scan or not

EastMidsGem · 16/11/2021 09:51

Our hospital booked our 20 week scan when we went for our 12 week scan. Ours is 17th December. We decided to have a private scan booked for this Friday though just to bridge the gap a bit.

One of my friends really doesn’t understand why I want extra scans and thinks I’m just paranoid and really negative but I think unless you’ve had problems before, you can’t really get it. I feel so comforted on here that other people are doing the same

Sarah239 · 16/11/2021 10:24

They gave me my 20 week scan appointment letter at my 12 week scan. I guess every hospital is different.

My 20 week scan is on Christmas Eve 🥰 Hopefully we will be able to find out the sex but also a bit nervous incase we get any bad news at that scan and it ruins Christmas!

I also booked my 16 week midwife appointment this week for 2nd Dec

Sarah239 · 16/11/2021 10:26

@EastMidsGem I think it's totally understandable. Don't really get why people are so liberal with their opinions when they aren't the ones pregnant! My colleague yesterday was adamant I shouldn't find out the sex...? I understand some people want to and some people don't and I get it but I'd never tell someone else whether they should or shouldn't, totally up to them!
