This thread has moved on so much since I was last on but looks like everyone is doing well which is fab :)

@Sarah239 my OH works for NHS admin and he loses the bank holidays to his paternity leave should they fall at the same time. We should benefit from them as I have to be induced by 40 weeks so means he’ll get two weeks pat leave and only has to actually take 5 holiday days to get a full month off.

I put my maternity leave request in yesterday so feeling very excited. Starting it two weeks early (as suspect they’ll induce me) and then as new annual leave year starts 1st April, I’m taking two weeks off before then so got a whole month off before baby is technically due. I find work quite stressful so happy for extra time off beforehand to chill and sort out things. Also been struggling a lot with hours and being unwell during pregnancy so didn’t want to be facing that at 36 weeks! Although have found they’re splitting my role into two and one of the people covering is coming back in March so hoping I should have some help for final month 😊

I also won’t divulge my shopping habits as I have way too much stuff 🤣

Jowd92 · 12/01/2022 04:37

Anyone else felt really crap after having the covid booster I had mine yesterday morning and my arm is in so much pain I just can’t get comfortable also just feel unwell :(

aNewYorkerInLondon · 12/01/2022 04:50

@Jowd92, yeah, I was achy, sore arm, headache for about 2 days after. I hope you feel better soon!

LS2020 · 12/01/2022 05:25

@Jowd92 yes I felt flu bad for about 24 hours and had the headaches for a week after. Weirdly my arm bothered me the least of the 3 this time. Feel better soon x

Jowd92 · 12/01/2022 06:31

Glad to know it’s not just me then I’ve felt so awful all night I’ve hardly slept banging head ache and I’m pouring with sweat not very nice and I can’t move my arm at all it’s so painful I’ve had to take paracetamol and that’s so unlike me I never ever take pain killers unless it’s really bad today is going to be fun trying to look after 4 kids 2 of which are toddlers when I feel like this also my son has his pre school boosters today

Bubbasmama2017 · 12/01/2022 08:03

I'm sure from memory you can stop and start paternity leave so maybe the dad's can take a few days then take the bank holiday then restart again? I think someone in a previous job took his over the course of a month just a few days each week to spread it out more.
We haven't bought anything new for the nursery, most of our furniture it boring white IKEA stuff anyway which you can't repaint I'll be adding colorful touches with a rug and pictures. I found having a normal chest of drawers with a changing mat topper on was fine for us last time, this can be put on top of a cot bed as well if space is an issue. Our nursery is quite small so can't only have a few bits in there, definitely want a nursing chair this time though my back was ruined from feeding in bed too much.

GinnyBee · 12/01/2022 09:10

Is anyone having / had the SnuzKot cot bed? I'm temped as if it can be used up to ten years then that would be a huge advantage not having to swap furniture around all the time. Don't know whether to get a next to me crib as well first. We're going to set up the spare room so that I'll be sleeping in there with the baby and we should be able to fit a bed for me and a cot, but don't know if it would be more convenient to have him right next to the bed instead of the opposite wall.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 12/01/2022 09:35

@GinnyBee, we're doing a next to me cot in our bedroom, then a convertible cot in baby's room that turns into a toddler bed. I think that should get us up toward primary school age?? I think though if you are sleeping in baby's room I would do just the one regular cot (personally).

I remember big changes being pretty scary as a kid, so I like the idea that when its time to go to the toddler bed, he'll be in the same bed, just a different configuration, so it will still feel like his bed in the same spot in his room (if that makes sense?)

mowglika · 12/01/2022 11:32

Paternity leave has to end by 56 days after the baby’s birth or due date, but I’m not sure if you can work it around the bank holidays. It probably depends on your work and if they want you to take it in one go which would be unfair! How many bank holidays are there in May/June?

Both my dc were in their cotbed until about 3/4, and then they went into a bunk bed which they now share. It’s a nice idea to have a bed which lasts til 10 years but also nice to make a big fuss of them moving to a big boy or girl bed just before they start nursery/school.

Jowd92 · 12/01/2022 14:04

So after feeling very poorly since the booster yesterday today ive been sick and also got a rash all over my face now waiting to hear from a doctor who thinks I might be having an allergic reaction never been so worried ! Fingers crossed all is well

Kittycaz · 12/01/2022 15:49

@Jowd92 sorry to hear this I hope you get some help for it soon. My mother in law had same thing with the booster throwing up and sweats after 3 days it went away. But it's best to check with your Dr. Fingers crossed for you.

GinnyBee · 12/01/2022 18:05

That sounds unpleasant @Jowd92 ! Was your booster different to your first two?

TashieWoo · 12/01/2022 18:43

You poor thing @Jowd92! I hope the doctor calls you soon and you have some reassurance, and I hope that you have some help with your other DC. X

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 12/01/2022 19:05

Ah no @Jowd92. Hope the rash goes away soon. I felt very crap after my booster, actually much worse than when I got actual Covid a week later! Hope you feel better soon.

LS2020 · 12/01/2022 19:18

@Jowd92 you poor thing! I hope you feel better soon.
I had my whooping cough today and that’s knocked me out for the afternoon, slept it away as thankfully off work today. Last jab hopefully before baby gets here now 🤞🏻

@GinnyBee we’ve done same as @aNewYorkerInLondonwe have a Snuzpod for next to bed and then the cot for nursery can go until they’re 4 years old I think. Our plan is OH will be with me most nights to support but if he wants a break/probably on a Sunday, he’ll sleep in guest bed to get some interrupted rest rather than us having to move if that’s something that’s then easier to set up?

GinnyBee · 12/01/2022 19:47

@LS2020 Not really, we already sleep in separate rooms because of different sleep schedules and when baby comes I certainly don't see a reason to have both of us sleep badly! Will eventually have to move back in to the same room though when the guest room becomes the kid room and I already don't like it!

Hope you're ok @Jowd92 !

fattycatty82 · 12/01/2022 21:06

Is anyone buying a high chair now or waiting? I keep thinking of things I haven't got yet but probably need to accept most things will be bought as and when!

@Jowd92 I hope you're ok

TashieWoo · 12/01/2022 21:23

@fattycatty82 I have some older age clothes as they came in a good quality second hand bundle but I’m not buying a high chair or anything like that until I need it, probably around 5 months? It’s fun to leave some of the shopping until she’s here Smile

Crazymumofboys · 12/01/2022 22:46

Evening all, I have been happily reading all your posts for a while, but now finally coming to the realisation that I am really pregnant and can join!

I am 21 weeks expecting a baby girl, already have 2 boys aged 9 and 7. I had a MMC at 12 weeks in July so have spent the first half either in denial or petrified! Starting to relax now!

mowglika · 12/01/2022 23:35

Welcome @Crazymumofboys I’m the same as you, only just joined as I wasn’t sure id make it to 20 weeks.. also got two boys and expecting a girl this time Smile

fattycatty I left buying the high chair til nearer the time when baby will need it. It’s a big bit of furniture and will just get in the way until then! Planning on getting the IKEA highchair same as with my youngest, it was super easy to use and clean

@Jowd92 I hope you are feeling better, did you not have a reaction to the first two? Hope you were seen ASAP by your gp

aNewYorkerInLondon · 13/01/2022 03:10

Welcome @Crazymumofboys and @mowglika!

@fattycatty82, we like the idea of the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair with the newborn attachment so that we can sit at the table with him at table height while we eat (if he cooperates). Then it will grow with him.

Does anyone have experience with that chair system?

LS2020 · 13/01/2022 07:05

@GinnyBee if you’re in the babys room, I would suggest just getting the crib you want longer term as I think next to me cots only go up to 6 months and then you’d just have to buy one anyway? If you’re doing the full shifts, by the time you’ve fed, changed and soothed them back to sleep, a couple of extra steps probably won’t make too much difference!

@fattycatty82 I would probably wait if you can, we do have ours but only got as we had one we wanted which had £50 off on Amazon and we wanted to get some stuff off our wishlist so it tipped us over £200 to get 15% off. We have just put ours in loft out the way for a bit though! Ours has a newborn insert so hoping can seat them at table while we eat so will use a bit earlier than specifically for baby.

@aNewYorkerInLondon I wanted a stokke so bad but after splurging on everything else, by the time I added all the newborn inserts etc, I couldn’t justify the price at all. I’ve heard such amazing things though and people saying like they’ve literally only sold theirs as their kid went to Uni etc. My OH’s family was generous with experience and meal vouchers for us for Xmas to enjoy pre baby so I’m kinda hoping we can ask for money when baby arrives (if they wish to gift us something) and it might be enough to cover getting one and we’ll keep the highchair we bought at a grandparents house

Jowd92 · 13/01/2022 07:06

Hi all thanks for asking, my first 2 doses was completely fine and I had Pfizer again for the booster spoke with doctor and she checked the rash on face said she had never seen a rash like it before and as all my vitals was fine hopefully it will just go in a few days or week or so but now to add to my stress my oldest son has just tested positive for Covid what a nightmare

GinnyBee · 13/01/2022 07:27

@Jowd92 That's odd if you didn't have a reaction from the first two! Hope you feel better soon, and your little one doesn't give it to you now! Although, the way things are developing it's looking like we can't avoid it completely, everyone will have it sooner or later so might be some benefits to just getting it out the way too!

@LS2020 Yeah I'm leaning that way too! And then we wouldn't need to swap the bed yet either as the room has a king at the moment (it used to be the guest room, then when I had my second mc last May and was sleeping badly with cramps and hormones OH moved to sleep there to get a peaceful night and I didn't have to feel bad for being restless, and then when we were both sleeping 100x better he never moved back) and would struggle to easily fit a next to me unless I push it right against the wall. And even though we considered switching to a smaller bed, I've decided that's definitely not worth it as we'd then have to get rid of it when I move back in to the master bedroom. 🤦‍♀️
