Merry Christmas everyone! Loving the 3am pregnancy insomnia 😅

I agree - this thread has been a really invaluable place for me in this pregnancy and I wish you all a great day, even if it's not the day you originally planned xx

fattycatty82 · 25/12/2021 06:15

Merry Christmas my fellow pregnant ladies! Amazing to think we are half way there. I've just cancelled all the boys clothes I bought before my scan and going to check the sales for some pretty dresses 🤣 anyone found anywhere really good? Got a few bits from next and boots xx

robyna · 25/12/2021 07:06

Merry Christmas all! I feel like an excited child up this early but pregnancy made me fall asleep at 9 so I'm now awake waiting for my snoring fiancé to wake up!

@fattycatty82 Asda have a sale on atm which is amazing - online still loads of 0-3 left

Luckygreenduck · 25/12/2021 07:12

FTM but been awake since about 4.30 with sore hips and just not able to get back to sleep. I am sure I will look back and regret not enjoying my last christmas day lie in for a while!
Everyone keeps saying enjoy these last times without a baby but I am just excited to meet my baby :)

TashieWoo · 25/12/2021 07:32

Merry Christmas to you all! Star

I hope you all have a lovely day, I’m trying not to wish the time until May away and just enjoy every moment, even though I can’t wait to meet our baby and know she is okay.

Thank you for all of the support over the last couple of months 💗

LS2020 · 25/12/2021 08:04

Merry Christmas everyone! Have been up since 5am uncomfy and baby tapping away but feeling very blessed 🥰

@Luckygreenduck my OH said the same as I woke him at 6.30am as I was bored 😂

@fattycatty82 Matalan and m and s have their sales on too I believe already ☺️

itssquidstella · 25/12/2021 08:30

Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄

GinnyBee · 25/12/2021 08:33

Merry Christmas everyone!

We started Christmas yesterday already with a Finnish Christmas, just me and hubby. Morning sauna followed by Finnish meal and presents for each other, then a nice long walk with the dog. In the evening his SIL and her fiancée, and his grandma arrived at his parents' (next door) and we went over for some games and supper.

Sorry for those who have had the shitty present of catching covid this year!

I have again been feeling a bit nervous for my scan next week, as I still can't really feel anything, not consistently anyway. I have an anterior placenta so I know it's not unusual but still can't help but worry. But then last night as I went to bed I'm pretty sure I felt a fair bit of tumbling around!

OP posts:
TashieWoo · 25/12/2021 12:15

Try not to worry @GinnyBee although I know it’s hard, not being able to feel movements really got me down. I have a high posterior placenta so I thought I’d be more likely to feel something early on but I’m 22 weeks tomorrow and it’s only in the past 10 days I’ve felt what I think is the baby moving, I hope that’s what it is anyway.

And the Finnish Christmas sounds lovely! Will you have an English Christmas today with your family?

GinnyBee · 25/12/2021 21:08

@TashieWoo yes, but with husband’s family, he’s English and I’m not 🙂 so yesterday evening was the start of the English Christmas. Finnish traditions don’t include loads of people nor loud games!

fattycatty82 · 26/12/2021 07:12

@GinnyBee I love the sound of a Finnish Christmas!

Spent the day with my in laws yesterday and I'm exhausted now. I don't know them that well... for various reasons including covid we have only met a handful of times. Unfortunately turns out my sort of father in law (me and my partner aren't married) has some pretty dodgy views. Thankfully my partner doesn't share them but it was hard to sit and listen to it all and made me wary about my daughter spending time with them in case he decides to come out with any of his vile views again. Also, after months of deliberation I've decided my daughter will have my surname!

On another note is anyone worried about the amount of sugar/bad food their eating this Xmas?? I know it's normal this time of year but read so much about how sugar and overeating is bad in pregnancy!!

Luckygreenduck · 26/12/2021 11:10

@fattycatty82 I think using your surname is a good idea. You can always change it if you get married or double barrel it.
On the views that is really hard, depends how extreme they are. I personally think its fine to tell your child you disagree. Might be different but my grandparents were very religious and we were very close. Some of thier views were very black and white and some quite harmful in my view. My dad would then tell me he didnt believe and it was like fairy stories. He was always respectful of them but very clear from an early age with me that he didnt agree and whether I did was my choice.
Its hard with young children and depends how comfortable you are challenging his parents as well. I know my in laws well and if they said something sexist, homophobic or racist I would be fine to call it out but then I know it would be a silly comment rather than genuine hate speech.

TashieWoo · 26/12/2021 11:13

@GinnyBee sounds like you’ve had the best of both worlds, I hope you had a lovely day yesterday 😊

@fattycatty82 I had yesterday with my parents and in laws and I too am exhausted, we have round two today though! DP, his family and I are going to the Boxing Day races shortly which will be fun, then back to my parents for dinner. I am enjoying myself but I won’t lie, I’m looking forward to a quieter day tomorrow.

Bubbasmama2017 · 26/12/2021 11:24

Merry Christmas everyone! Just think next year we'll have our little ones eating at the table with us Smile
tmi boxing day query from me ... Has anyone had funny discharge? A couple of times I've wiped and it's been pale green. NHS website says speak to your midwife but I'm not sure she would be answering messages today!

YfenniChristie · 26/12/2021 13:24

@fattycatty82 You have my sympathies! It's a mine field. While me and my in-laws get along fine, we are polar opposites politically but the whole situation with Covid has exacerbated that somewhat.

They don't think it's that big a deal, turns out they don't wear masks in public and Drakeford/Sturgeon are "tin-pot Hitlers." My husband calls them out on a lot of stuff, and I get involved where appropriate (I'm more comfortable calling out my own parents when they say something stupid). I'm pretty sure we caught Covid from them - it was either from them or the hospital when we had our 20 week scan.

We will be explaining to our kid how and why we disagree with certain views. I'm fully prepared to make myself the "bad guy" and challenge both sets of parents when they say stupid shit.

SouthwestSis · 26/12/2021 14:55

Oh dear @YfenniChristie....comparing leaders of British nations with Hitler is worrying!
They clearly need a few history lessons.
It's so sad when people feel unable to do something as simple as wear a mask to help protect others in their community.
It's no wonder the UK has ended up with some of the highest rates in Europe of people dying and needing hospitalised. A sorry state of affairs.

YfenniChristie · 26/12/2021 15:18

@Bubbasmama2017 I've not had any odd discharge, but if you're concerned, I'd call the Antenatal Unit and see what they say.

@SouthwestSis My background is in heritage so they usually know better than to make comments like that in front of me because they know I will challenge them about it. The upside is they live 3 hours away so don't see them too often. The downside is that it's not easy to remove oneself when visiting them so have to balance biting ones tongue or creating an awkward atmosphere when challenging them.

GinnyBee · 26/12/2021 15:23

I can sympathise with having clashing views with your in-laws! My FIL has some strong political beliefs that thankfully no one else in the family shares, and I'm also not afraid of expressing just how much I disagree with him on many accounts. So we get on just fine, but it does make me roll my eyes, as he is in many other ways an intelligent and grounded person.

Happy Boxing Day everyone. We've had a lovely couple of days but I'm now sooo tired and looking forward to a lazy day (possibly even a PJ day?! tomorrow). It's been nice to have a "normal" Christmas as last year was absolute rubbish... And we have also enjoyed telling family we are having a girl. We have shifted really quickly from saying "baby/it/they" to "she" which just feels really nice 🥰

Now thinking I should have done more research in to things to buy for Boxing Day sales!

@Bubbasmama2017 I haven't had green discharge, agree I would probably ring the unit and see what they say x

@fattycatty82 I tried to cut down on sugar for a few days a couple of weeks ago... and then promptly fainted with suspected low blood sugar... so I'm not worrying anymore! Midwife said my weight/ethnicity/age were not risk factors (I'm quite small, Caucasian, 31) and she said (and I quote) "as long as you are not eating 6 bags of jelly babies a day you should be fine". She encouraged me not to restrict myself too much. Christmas is a splurge but I think a short burst of decadence is fine! Just try to eat balanced and sugar in moderation the rest of the time. If you're worried speak to midwife x

And god... I relate about in-laws/difficult political views, racist/homophobic bs. I think I'll just focus on showing my child as much love and as much diversity and tolerance elsewhere that hopefully they will grow up with the right values and knowing they are loved and should respect and show compassion to others no matter who they are. I'm very lucky with my side of the family in that respect which is a blessing.

Bubbasmama2017 · 26/12/2021 20:24

Thanks for the advice, I'll see how it is tomorrow morning and give them a call if any more appears.
Sorry to hear there have been some awkward and upsetting conversations with PIL :-( so hard when you want to keep people in your life but they have stupid views on stuff and project it onto you!

Bubbasmama2017 · 26/12/2021 20:27

Just to add to the over eating thing, I've been worrying about this too but also because my diet was so carb heavy during the worst of my morning sickness I've already gained more than I'd like and my BMI was just into over weight bracket to begin with. Me and my partner have decided to have a big focus on eating healthy and moving more this week, we never do much around new year so no point waiting til then to start! The midwife mentioned slimming world when I saw her first but I don't think I could follow it.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 27/12/2021 08:30

I just ordered some of the cutest Christmas baby items from Boden in their big 60% off sale - I got the 6-9 month size. Hubs is going to kill me but I don't care (bahahaha - he knows better. he'll just shake his head). I'll love being able to dress baby boy up for the holiday season (at a discount) next Christmas!

fattycatty82 · 27/12/2021 09:34

@aNewYorkerInLondon 😂 good for you! I love Boden. I've also been told off for going crazy in the sale... Don't think the baby will be short of clothes but may have bought too much in certain sizes and not enough in others 🤦‍♀️

I need to stop eating so much today and get to the gym... waking mega early every morning is not good for motivation!

Bubbasmama2017 · 27/12/2021 16:43

@fattycatty82 I know the feeling! I've been too tired to do much after work and its too dark where I live to run or walk at night. I might take up swimming and try and do some at home workouts.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 27/12/2021 17:06

@Bubbasmama2017 and @fattycatty82, the last few days, I've just been happy to take the dog for a walk (waddle?) of about 2.5 miles each day. My hips have felt so loose in their sockets that its exhausting! Its taking me twice as long to cover our usual loops through the park.
