@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat that's a beautiful photo! Sorry about your Christmas plans it must be so disappointing. We live locally to my family but I'm still expecting someone to catch it and scupper our plans!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 23/12/2021 16:34

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat, great photo! Sorry to hear about your Christmas plans though.

@YfenniChristie, welcome! I've got a fibroid too but it only grew 1/2 CTM between 12 weeks and 20 weeks, so that was a relief. Mine is also high.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 23/12/2021 16:38

Ladies, I have a sneaking suspicion that I had a single Braxton Hicks contraction today in the middle of Whole Foods. It was crowded (though all in masks I'm glad to say!) and I was worn out, and I was heading toward the till and the bottom of my bump squeezed really tight and got hard. It didn't hurt at all, but it scared the heck out of me. After maybe 5 or 10 seconds, it passed and didn't happen again. I have no discharge. I think we're alright?? But I'd love some reassurance.

I'm 21+1 today.

Sarah239 · 23/12/2021 17:25

Thanks for the answers about drinking water everyone! I checked again and my letter says "drink SEVERAL glasses of water one or two hours before" 😅 They do know we're pregnant right?! I'll go by your advice and just drink a bit on way to hospital!

@aNewYorkerInLondon Hmm not sure but I have had moments where part of my bump goes tight... I always just assumed it was baby moving around weirdly! Braxton Hicks never crossed my mind! For me it feels like part of my bump protrudes more. Maybe not the same thing. I assume as long as it doesn't keep happening regularly then you're fine?

aNewYorkerInLondon · 23/12/2021 17:52

@Sarah239, yeah, this felt different, like a too tight waistband across the bottom "smile" shape of my bump. So weird.

So far, so good it seems

Hi everyone, I have been on earlier threads with a different username. Had to take a break from MN as another forum got quite toxic, I know this forum is lovely and supportive though so glad to be back with all you lovely ladies 🥰

Anyway, so I am now 20+2 and had my 20 week scan today. The most important thing is that baby was absolutely fine, although kicking and wriggling to I had to shake around and move from side to side to get all the measurements.

After loads of discussions my husband and I had finally decided that this time we would find out the gender. The sonographer did the checks, then we said can we find out the gender so she quickly scanned again but you could tell she couldn’t be bothered. Then baby had their legs firmly closed so we still don’t know!

I do have another scan at 32 weeks as I’m under consultant care following complications in my last birth and now being aged over 40. So we could pay privately, wait to 32 weeks or as I think we have decided just not find out 🤦‍♀️

Sarah239 · 24/12/2021 08:15

Good luck with your scan today @fattycatty82 ! I will be thinking of my scan twin :)

2:45pm can't come quickly enough!

fattycatty82 · 24/12/2021 08:17

@Sarah239 thank you! 1.20pm here. So excited. Wishing you all the best x

robyna · 24/12/2021 09:29

My 20 week scan was brought forward to today at 2:20 😬 nervous and excited at the same time.

Good luck everyone who has scans today too

fattycatty82 · 24/12/2021 09:46

@robyna welcome to the Xmas eve scan club!! Good luck, can't wait to read updates later 😃

fattycatty82 · 24/12/2021 09:48

@Yellowbelly12 oh no!! That is frustrating when you're expecting to be told. I didn't know with my daughter as back in those days (lol!) my local hospital had a policy of not saying. I must say it really was a lovely surprise on the day so if I had the patience and willpower I'd do it x

Yellowbelly12 · 24/12/2021 10:19

@fattycatty82 we never found out with our little boy but this time we thought we would do it differently, but not meant to be!

Good luck to everyone having their scans today

Sarah239 · 24/12/2021 13:33

Good luck @robyna we will probably be in our scans at the same time 🤞

robyna · 24/12/2021 15:28

All perfect! The private scan I had a few weeks ago said I had an anterior placenta but apparently I have a posterior placenta which makes more sense since her kicks are strong.

Sarah239 · 24/12/2021 16:05

Congratulations @robyna! apparently I have a posterior placenta too which makes sense as I have been feeling a fair amount of movement for a couple of weeks now!

Everything at our scan looked good and we were told of the "strong suspicion" that we are having a little girl 🥰🥰🥰 Would have been happy either way but over the moon. I had been calling her "she" the past few days for some reason so my gut must have known!

robyna · 24/12/2021 16:09

@Sarah239 aww congrats! Team girl 💖

YfenniChristie · 24/12/2021 16:30

Well I've had a fab bit of news this afternoon. Took a lat flow test ahead of meeting family tomorrow and it's come back positive. Partner's is negative. Have booked ourselves in for a PCR but obviously won't get results for a few days.

I feel fine - bunged up (but have been throughout the pregnancy) with a dry throat and tickly cough because I'm having to occasionally breathe through my mouth.

sigh Emotionally I am devastated though, and terrified for the baby. I'm double-vaxx'd so that's something, but still.

Does anyone know if I need to inform the midwife?

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 24/12/2021 16:34

Ah @YfenniChristie same here 🙈 got a positive lft this morning. I was expecting it as my 4 year old has had it recently. So far just a headache and scratchy throat but worrying about the baby too.

I texted my midwife to check if there’s anything I need to do and she just told me to keep hydrated and look after myself.

Hope you get off mildly. I’ve had my booster recently but it was only a week ago so probably too soon to get much benefit from it.

YfenniChristie · 24/12/2021 17:25

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat I don't know for sure where I've picked it up but I have a sneaky suspicion it's a family member we've seen recently.

Also thank you! I'll check my notes for my midwife's number - she's about to semi-retire so she's a bit elusive at the best of times.

fattycatty82 · 24/12/2021 18:16

@Sarah239 mine is a girl too! I was shocked as really thought it would be a boy... relieved everything looks well and healthy but if I'm honest there's a little bit of disappointment there too. I think I just need to get my head round it!

Merry Christmas everyone xxx

Sarah239 · 24/12/2021 19:35

Thanks everyone.

I'm so annoyed with myself... I know in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter but I just accidentally said "her" on a group text with my mum, dad and sister when I've been looking forward for weeks to surprising them with the gender face to face on Christmas Day 🙈😫 so now they all know and I didn't even get to see their reactions.

I'm so stupid!!

And now my mum's telling me not to be annoyed and "it's just my hormones" 🙄 I know this is a small thing but it's just something I've been looking forward to the whole pregnancy and now I've ruined it and can't fix it. Argh...

Oh well, at least I still get to surprise my baby niece.

So so sorry to everyone who's had positive tests, that really really sucks! I was so nervous when I took mine this morning!

Sarah239 · 24/12/2021 19:41

@fattycatty82 I think it's understandable to be a little disappointed, don't feel guilty. People might pretend otherwise but I think most people secretly have a slight preference, but that's just my opinion. I'm sure you will feel excited soon though once have got your head round it. My friend said to me ... whatever sex you are having, it's natural to feel sadness for the one you are NOT having. I do feel a little bit like "oh, it's a shame we don't get to see what our son will be like" even though I'm very excited to meet our daughter! Xx

Sarah239 · 24/12/2021 19:46

Sorry everyone I know I sound like a right tit about the "accidentally let slip the gender" thing... just disappointed in myself and had to vent. All I had to do was not say anything for one evening!

I'm so grateful that the scan was healthy and need to focus on that.

robyna · 24/12/2021 19:52

@Sarah239 I think you're being completely rational, I don't want to tell anyone her name until she's born but some of my students managed to guess her name and my reaction gave it away. I just didn't want anyone except me and my partner to know her name! If I accidentally let the name slip to my family I'd be so disappointed so I do get it.
And you're definitely right about the gender disappointment. I kept saying either way I'd be happy but was secretly wishing for a girl, but as soon as I knew she was a girl I had a moment where I was sad I wasn't going to have a little mommy's boy 😂

aNewYorkerInLondon · 25/12/2021 00:19

It's after midnight. Merry Christmas, everybody!
