Hello,

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas 🎅🏻

We had our 20wk scan on xmas eve and all was fine. The scan lady said all was measuring fine apart from babies tummy was slightly bigger than it should be. Midwife told me not to worry and that they'd check at my growth scan at 32 weeks. Has anyone had any experience with this?

TIA

GinnyBee · 27/12/2021 18:00

I've just done some sales shopping too, but bought nothing for baby and loads for me! 🙈I've started waking up fully on my side now with my legs completely stacked on top of each other, when I normally sleep half on my tummy and half on my side (top leg bent, bottom leg straight), so it was time to get a body pillow which I've been putting off as all the options out there just felt so overwhelming! So splurged on the chart-topping everyone's favourite but rather pricey BBhugme pillow, as I got a Jojo Maman gift card for Christmas and they have 10% off first order if you sign up for newsletter. As I was there I browsed the maternity clothes too and picked up some bits. Mostly tops sadly, even though I need bottoms more - I live in fairly loose fitting and/or stretchy things anyway so most of my tops will fit me for a good while still, but my leggings have started to roll down but I didn't like any of the leggings they had.

@GinnyBee the best lounge wear bottoms I have bought are on sale in seraphine at the moment, they are so soft and comfortable and waste band stretchy and comfy I love them! Two pairs for £39 in black and charcoal... so worth it!

I also went sales shopping and raided primark and Mark's and Spencer's for baby clothes. That's it now though!!!

Has anyone thought about what they'll wear at the hospital? I've been looking at more lightweight/summer dressing gowns and birthing gowns/nighties with buttons at the front. Would be great to preserve my dignity if at all possible 😭 I'm not going to bother with slippers, hoping weather will be nice enough for flip flops!

Bubbasmama2017 · 27/12/2021 18:50

@laura2093 we had the same and also my daughter measured larger on the tummy when I was pregnant with her. I really worried the first time but I know nothing was wrong with her so I'm not even worrying about it this time. I've got a scan with the consultant in a couple of weeks so no doubt it will brought up again then. I know they have to be cautious but it does make people panic!

Bubbasmama2017 · 27/12/2021 18:52

@fattycatty82 I have a couple of nighties with button down fronts that I will take to the hospital (or maybe try and buy a new one of) I got them from Matalan years ago. Handy for breast feeding! It's so hot in the hospital you might find you strip off lol

aNewYorkerInLondon · 27/12/2021 19:50

@GinnyBee , I've just ordered a c-shaped one from Kolbray. I just need to wash the pillowcase before trying it, because my skin is sensitive sometimes.

I'd love to hear what you think of the BBhugme!

I looked at that one but I think I need one that goes all the way around to support both back and bump, and with the U-shaped ones I end up on my back because it just pushes out of my way.

Sarah239 · 27/12/2021 20:42

@aNewYorkerInLondon what's the difference between c shaped and u shaped? I feel clueless! I thought u shaped were the ones that went fully around.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 27/12/2021 20:58

@Sarah239, the U shaped ones have the opening at your feet (or, I suppose it can be at your head??)), while the c-shaped ones have the opening at the front or the back. I'm using this one so that the opening is at the front because it curls under my bump nicely and because I face away from the center of the bed so that's the direction I go when I get up for the loo. I'll post pix:

Thanks @fattycatty82 ! I've just ordered the twin pack of bamboo leggings from there and two pairs of sports leggings as well! I don't know if the bamboo leggings are what you were talking about, but they looked great and I love bamboo stuff anyway.

@Sarah239 Yes, U-shaped ones go all the way around, C-shaped are smaller and I think you loop it around through your legs rather than behind your neck like the U-shape.

OP posts:
GinnyBee · 27/12/2021 21:02

Nope, I was wrong! Have just googled them, and C-shape is like a full on cocoon that wraps around you, and looks a bit more stiff in the shape than u-shape that can swivel around more.

OP posts:
aNewYorkerInLondon · 27/12/2021 21:43

@GinnyBee, exactly! I tried one of the U-shaped ones when I had a pinched nerve a few years ago. Orthopedist said that better pillow support could help me, but I found as I rolled over, the part of the U-shaped pillow that was at my back would just slide backwards and then up over my husband. When the c-sh as led one arrived, I tried it out and it does feel more cocoon-like and that it will keep me in position better. Fingers crossed!!

Sarah239 · 27/12/2021 22:17

Hmm, I think C shape going around your back and open at the front might be what I'd prefer too

Minster2012 · 28/12/2021 09:55

Thank you to whoever suggested the seraphine leggings, I will be splurging shortly!

GinnyBee · 28/12/2021 10:08

Are you guys doing an antenatal class? We have NCT and Bump & Baby Club near me and I'm wondering if it's worth the money. I'm slightly more torn towards B&BC but possibly only because it's £35 cheaper. NCT I think it's slightly more hours overall, but over one fewer session - 4 sessions vs. 5 sessions but 15h vs 10h. NCT would be in April and B&BC in March. I really don't know what to do!

@GinnyBee, I was looking at this before the holidays then it got back burnered. Thanks for the reminder!

I was leaning toward NCT and also a hypnobirthing course.

TashieWoo · 28/12/2021 10:47

@GinnyBee DP and I are doing NCT classes, I booked them after the 20 week scan and they start at the end of feb and run to the middle of April so good timing with my due date at the beginning of May. We have 7 2-hour sessions then an additional postnatal meet-up, this cost £265 for us both and I paid another £50ish for 18 months membership.

I chose NCT because my friends recommended it to me, and the classes are a 10 min walk from home, so hopefully I can make some local mummy friends too.

fattycatty82 · 28/12/2021 11:00

Morning ladies,

These are the ones I got and absolutely love, but anything from seraphine is usually great (if on the pricey side)

www.seraphine.com/en-gb/maternity-lounge-pants-twin-pack/

We have booked NCT classes starting in March 4 sessions in total and an meet up after but not sure of exact number of hours. I did it with my daughter many years ago and it was excellent. I am hoping to meet local couples in the same situation as us. I've also booked online classes that are free with U.K. baby and I plan to book hypnobirthing classes with them too for £30 for a full course and maybe the pregnancy yoga £20 a month) although I'd much prefer to do an in person class. Just so tricky at the mo what with the dreaded covid

I did nct classes with my first and I made a really good group of friends and we still meet up from time to time. It was a huge support in the first year to have a little group of people going through it all together. I would say keep an open mind when it comes to the classes though, it is very much biased towards breastfeeding and a ‘natural birth’. For various reasons I ended up having a very much assisted delivery and wasn’t able to breastfeed as a result of the birth and I think all the NCT classes I’d had I felt monumentally shit about myself for a long time and felt like a massive failure that I’d neither had the perfect natural birth or breastfed my baby. Maybe that’s just me but I’ve also heard other people say the same so I’d just advise you if you do them to not take it all as gospel that it is necessarily the ‘best’ way to do things.

Regarding pillows I have a dreamgenie which I am getting on ok with. I had spinal surgery last year and I’ve been sleeping on by back since then and I’m trying to train myself to sleep on my side now and this pillow is helpful for keeping me off my back and is quite comfortable.

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 28/12/2021 11:04

Hope you’re all staying well. I still have COVID but is just a mild cold for me. My little boy recovered quickly but was horribly ill so I am counting myself very lucky that my symptoms are very mild! Just going a bit crazy stuck in the house with 2 little ones full of energy!

EastMidsGem · 28/12/2021 11:38

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and sorry to those of you that have tested positive - hope you’re all keeping safe and sane!

We just had the 2nd part of our 20 week scan to do the last measurements and unfortunately they did find an anomaly. I had club foot on both feet when I was born as did my Mum and our baby boy looks to have the same… I feel fine about it, I think I expected it although my Mum is quite upset. Obviously you want everything to be perfect but given the huge list of problems a baby could have, it is one of the easier to deal with issues and I’ve certainly never had any problems with it. Got to have another scan on 11th Jan for them to look in more detail.

Other than that, all healthy so I am relieved as they hadn’t managed to get the full heart and spine check last time.

GinnyBee · 28/12/2021 11:41

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat Yes I've heard that too, and I already know I want an ELCS so don't know how I'd fit in. The B&BC website says they are 'a modern alternative' and give equal weight to all birth options and experiences, but I guess it always also depends on the course leader. The more I look into it the more I like the sound of B&BC.
