I can’t decide what I need to buy 🙈 I got rid of a lot of baby things after my second was born as I thought he would be our last but decided to have one more so need to buy several things again.

I don’t think I’ll bother with a Moses basket. My babies never slept well in them and I seem to have big babies who outgrow the basket after 6 weeks. I have a bassinet attachment to the pram so I’m thinking I’ll use that for day naps.

For the cot we had a Chicco next to me which has now been sold. I think we will just use the cot my youngest is currently in as he needs a new bed. We can fit it in our bedroom as now in a bigger house so I think I’ll just have the baby in there with a new mattress to save us from getting a new one. I did like the Chicco next to me but I never used it as a cosleeper so I don’t feel like I need one.

I’ve bought a few clothes, just second hand ones on vinted. I’m planning to reuse all my boys clothes as I have so many in good condition and most are pretty unisex but it has been fun choosing a few new things for a girl. I just hope it’s still a girl at the 20 week scan now 😂

aNewYorkerInLondon · 06/12/2021 22:37

@Sarah239, that would scare me too. I'm erring I'm the side of caution with stuff like that.

For furniture we're planning on a co-sleeper (I like the maxi-cosi) attached to the side of our bed, then a convertible cot bed in baby's room. We just have to find our new place first before buying any of it!!

Bubbasmama2017 · 06/12/2021 23:10

I'm thinking more on the lines of the cot bed straight away, having thought about it my daughter always liked having a lot of space to stretch out so maybe this baby will be the same. Might need to rejig our bedroom to get it in though as I expect they'll be in with us for 6-8 months.

MissM94 · 07/12/2021 10:36

@Sarah239 thank you!

I can't decide about baby's bed either! We definitely want a next to me crib but my hairdresser said to her a Moses basket aswell Incase baby doesn't sleep in the next to me crib straight away but I honestly hate the thought of a Moses basket, never wanted one! What is everyone using for daytime naps? I suppose having a Moses basket would be good for the front room for baby to sleep in but we also have a mamma roo chair so he could be in there! So much to work out haha

LemonSwan · 07/12/2021 18:08

So excited about everyones gender scans! Congrats to those who have found out the sex Grin

Mine is in 10 days away and cant wait to find out eeekkk!!!

I had my mental health assessment today due to a previous MH episode. The doctor was really lovely and I feel very lucky I got her as she seems happy with a 'see how it goes' approach rather than preemptive medicating.

Bubbasmama2017 · 07/12/2021 18:50

@LemonSwan that's great they're supporting you. I had terrible health anxiety during my previous pregnancy which was really helped by CBT then a blip after baby was born and found the NHS were helpful with that too. I was a bit worried that during covid times that kind of support would be put on hold, I've been quite anxious recently and thinking about speaking to the doctors about it but wasn't sure what they might do!

Bubbasmama2017 · 07/12/2021 18:52

@MissM94 I found with my daughter sometimes we would use the Moses basket downstairs and other times just the bassinet from the pram so hoping to do the same this time. We also had a bouncer which she slept in sometimes for short naps.

LemonSwan · 07/12/2021 20:21

@Bubbasmama2017

Honestly I feel so lucky! I keep saying its one of very few good things to come out of my MH episode.

I was flagged to be cared for by the complex team quite early on in my pregnancy so have been with a really experienced midwife team with seemingly instant access to all kinds of services and consultants; and having appointments once a month for an hour as opposed to 5/10 mins at the GP. I really feel I have had excellent care and support and its a shame this isn't offered as standard for all women.

You should absolutely speak to the doctors/ midwives about it!

Sarah239 · 07/12/2021 21:26

Has anyone else around 17 weeks felt movement yet? I thought I maybe felt something on Sunday night but today I REALLY feel like I'm feeling baby and it's amazing! It feels like little pops, would even describe a couple of movements as little kicks (though not sure how realistic that is). I even thought I've seen my tummy move a couple of times but it might just be gas 😂

Now that I've felt something though I'm wondering if I'm imagining it as it feels suddenly much stronger than I expected it to be at first! Who knows!

I'm 17+1 today.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 07/12/2021 22:20

@Sarah239, that started for me at 17+5. I've been calling them "nudges." I'm obsessed. 😍

Sarah239 · 07/12/2021 22:59

@aNewYorkerInLondon yes! Nudges is a great word for it!

GinnyBee · 08/12/2021 09:35

I've not felt anything recognisable yet, some little 'pops' but could just as easily be gas!

We had a few days away in Cornwall this weekend and it was lovely, so needed! The weather was crap so no guilt about staying in and doing jigsaws, reading, watching telly. Got back yesterday a couple days earlier than planned as the weather was just going to get worse with Barra and I'm really glad we did as I get a few more days at home since I booked the whole week off work.

Got our gender scan coming up on Saturday! I'm still slightly holding back on getting too swept up in planning and haven't bought a single thing for the baby yet! Maybe after Saturday I'll start.

@GinnyBee how lovely to get away. I'm desperate to start getting sorted for baby but I'm also waiting until after my 20 week scan so it'll be the new year now. It's hard though as so many other mums to be seem to be organised and ready but I feel like this is last hurdle before I can hopefully relax a bit and start getting properly sorted

MissM94 · 08/12/2021 10:43

@Sarah239 I'm 17+4 and I've been feeling things for a few days! My first one was like butterflies or when you drive over a hill and your stomach drops, yesterday felt like little twitches and today is like little flickers🥰 It was weird at my midwife app last week she asked if I felt anything and I hadn't and she was saying by 24 weeks I should have clear movements and later that day I felt the first movement! He must of been listening haha

autumn321 · 08/12/2021 12:15

Hope everyone's doing okay! Had my 16 week midwife appointment this morning and got to hear little ones heartbeat for the first time!! It was amazing I felt so emotional! Baby was very active.

I'm debating whether to book a private scan as my next scan isn't until 11th Jan when I'll be 21 weeks. We will definitely find out the gender then but I don't know whether to be patient and just hope the time goes quickly or see if I can get one booked in before Christmas!

Luckygreenduck · 08/12/2021 19:13

Is anyone getting nervous about rising covid rates? I thought restrictions woukd be over by May- definitely will want family support for the first few months.
What will be will be but cant help feeling anxious. So glad I had both my jabs before getting pregnant so I dont have that dilemma.

fattycatty82 · 08/12/2021 19:26

@autumn321 I'm being patient as scan is Xmas eve and I think that's a lovely time to find out the gender! It's not easy though lol

@Luckygreenduck Yes it is a worry but they said the peak of the omicron will be mid jan which is good news for us having babies in May. I hope by then it'll have settled down. Get your booster when you can it gives you greater protection x

hwp22 · 08/12/2021 19:48

Lovely to see everyone’s scan pics and hear gender reveals! Really make me look forward to seeing the babies again on Friday and got my fingers crossed the can tell us the sex! @fattycatty82 I’m the same can’t wait to get some bits for the babies but my mind is saying hold on till 20 week scan ( due to previous MCs) but I keep thinking on the plus side there might be a few bargains about in the January sales!
@Luckygreenduck yes I’m concerned About Covid too - hoping by May things will have settled down but I’m worried about getting it and the effect it might have. Really don’t need the additional stress in pregnancy do we!
Ps anyone else got hip and lower back pain!? Really struggling with the whole sleeping on my side thing and I’m sure that’s what’s giving me pains!
Xx

aNewYorkerInLondon · 08/12/2021 21:59

@hwp22, yes! Hips and back super sore. My trainer said it's likely from the relaxin hormone loosening all the parts that usually support the back and pelvis, partnered with the beginning of the shift of weight to the front of the tummy.

I used to be a dancer and I so even so many years removed from it have a pretty acute awareness if my alignment and center of balance, and I can definitely vouch for everything feeling out of alignment and a bit loose in the sockets!

hwp22 · 08/12/2021 22:23

@aNewYorkerInLondon - not just me then! Not that I’d wish this back / hip pain on anyone! I usually love going for long walks but I feel like I’m just about capable of shuffling around the house & work at the moment! The relaxin hormone sounds like it could well be the cause and I guess there isn’t a lot I can do to combat that!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 08/12/2021 23:10

Trainer has recommended a few sets of squats, a few sets of calf raises, and a few "bird dogs" (which is when you are on hands and knees with a flat back, and you raise one arm straight forward and the opposite leg straight back, parallel to the floor, then back to all fours, then the other side. Always keeping your center square.)

Squats to help maintain the pelvic muscles. Calf raises for leg circulation. Bird dogs for core strength. My trainer specializes in pregnancy and post-natal fitness. 🙂

LemonSwan · 09/12/2021 00:39

I am concerned about COVID too, mainly for 3rd tri rather than now!

I had my last vax early March so well due a booster; but was worried to have it too early in case it ran out for third trimester.

Was going to have it end of Dec/ early Jan; but now everyone is saying 3 month coverage for new variant I am just so confused.

I dont want to have it too late, and I dont want to have it too early and miss having protection for highest risk period; and I feel like I am out of the 'average cohort' due to having the vaccine so early in the first place (literally first week release). If I am correct I am assuming most of child bearing age had their 2nd jab between early to late summer. So I feel I am right on the fringe of the group here and its making me uncomfortable and nervous to know what I should do.

fejkalove · 09/12/2021 07:56

Had my 16 week appointment yesterday, got to hear babies heartbeat although midwife spent a good 15 minutes trying to get it loud enough for me to record a snippet - baby was going crazy and moving like mad!
We have our gender scan tonight but not finding out (I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but we're having a gender reveal at the weekend - they weren't really a thing with my first so after an 11 year gap i'm milking it all this time! Grin)

fattycatty82 · 09/12/2021 08:54

@LemonSwan I'd speak to your midwife but I'm desperate to get mine. I still haven't been able to have it as it's not quite 6 months since my 2nd jab so looks like unless the gov get a move on it'll be January now. I won't be taking any risks over Xmas either. Not worth it for my health or that of my baby. If it means I have to miss a few Xmas parties/meals then so be it
