@Sarah239 that's a good tip thank you, like a few others hopefully at my 16 week appointment will be the first time o hear baby's heartbeat too (we've only seen it on scans so far not heard)

I've got a scan tomorrow and hoping to find out gender 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

EastMidsGem · 03/12/2021 11:30

I feel so left out that the midwife didn’t do it at my 16 week appointment ☹️

Got a rotten cold this week too so I’m feeling all down and like my next scan is ages away

GinnyBee · 03/12/2021 11:58

@EastMidsGem that's rubbish! Is your 20 week scan the next one or have you got a private one in between? We have a private scan in a week, couldn't bare waiting two months between the NHS scans!

EastMidsGem · 03/12/2021 12:28

@GinnyBee we had a private scan 3 days before my midwife appointment thankfully but my 20 week scan is 17th December. Just seems ages away when you’re feeling rubbish! It’s only 2 weeks I suppose now

Sarah239 · 03/12/2021 22:07

I'm sorry to hear that @EastMidsGem tbh I was so surprised mine did! I normally always have bad luck like that!

I hope you recover quickly from your cold, take care of yourself xx

aNewYorkerInLondon · 03/12/2021 23:49

@EastMidsGem, in future, it can't hurt to ask. I had a consultant OB appointment today (I'm high risk so have to go in for extra check-ups) and I asked him when he was checking my BP, heart, and lungs if he might have a doppler available to just quickly reassure me. He was super nice about it and was happy to do this quickly to just calm my nerves. It was literally like 5-10 seconds, but it was enough. (Then I had to go for an ECG 😒, which was no big deal but it's just nerve-wracking to need all these extra tests.)

aNewYorkerInLondon · 03/12/2021 23:50

(They didn't do it at my 16-week though.)

Bubbasmama2017 · 04/12/2021 09:34

Been super busy so just been catching up!
I know a lot of people who say midwife won't check the heart beat at 16 week appointment hopefully they allow you to hear it next time, it's so nerve wracking at the moment isn't it?

With mat leave I'm planning to go towards end of April (due mid may) as I want to have a few weeks to chill and enjoy time alone while my daughter is at nursery during those weeks so I can nest and sleep. I've got a consultant appointment mid Jan so might find out if I'll need to be induced early at that one.

Sarah239 · 04/12/2021 14:12

I tried on my sister's old maternity clothes last night and, oh my goodness, it really accentuated my bump and made me feel so much more pregnant! I want to buy loads more now as I loved the way it made me feel 🥰😅

LS2020 · 04/12/2021 16:42

So we caved and got a private scan today at 17+3 and was so totally worth it 🥰 interestingly I measured back to my original due date so who knows when baby will be here but they are doing well. Lovely heartbeat and got to see them in 2D and 4D, gave us a big yawn, stretch and roll over which was incredible and then we’ve got an awesome video of them in 4D stretching their legs out and kicking so very pleased with. Have a lovely little bank of 26 videos and photos to keep us going until the 20 week scan, she even took picture of their feet 🥰 hope all you lovely ladies are keeping well.
I just asked at my midwife appointment and she did it but did say they don’t offer unless asked.

@Sarah239 I moved over to maternity clothes a week ago and love them, feel so much more comfy x

Minster2012 · 04/12/2021 18:09

I will report back what happens at my midwife appointment on Thursday, we still haven't "heard" a heartbeat yet so would be good but some areas don't in case you can't hear it & it stresses you

We had a gender scan today at 15+5 and took DS with us & told him about the baby and it was fab. We are having a little girl so I'm over the moon as that's perfect for us 💗
3rd time lucky & we are starting to believe it now! Xx

robyna · 04/12/2021 20:12

I had my 16 week midwife appointment on Tuesday and she listened to heartbeat with a Doppler without me asking. It was lovely, although baby is a right wriggler and wouldn't stay still for the midwife to find her heartbeat! I think some offer it as a standard but some places don't.

Bubbasmama2017 · 05/12/2021 14:29

Lovely hearing about everyone's gender scans!
I want to buy a present for the baby which is silly because she won't even be here til may 🤣
Is anyone getting a next to the bed crib? We had a Moses basket then cot bed last time but our bedroom is smaller in our new house

LS2020 · 05/12/2021 18:35

@Bubbasmama2017 I want to get them Xmas gifts 😂 not many just a couple but OH thinks be weird for me to wrap and unwrap them!
Yes we’ve got a snuzpod in the sale as we’re in a three story house and top floor is main bedroom and en-suite so don’t want baby far from us.

Oh my gosh some milks just come in and scared the life out of me.. I didn’t know it could leak out this soon?!

fattycatty82 · 05/12/2021 19:59

We've been looking around John Lewis and mamas and papas today, the snuzpods do look good they say it's portable but wondering how realistic it is to carry up and down the stairs. So much to think about!!

I had my 16 week scan yesterday and the midwife was so lovely. I had a long list of things I wanted to ask and she took the time to answer everything and I got to hear the heartbeat. Was lovely for both of us. I was surprised my next midwife appointment isn't until February now but 20 week scan on Xmas eve! All so exciting 🥰

LS2020 · 05/12/2021 20:16

@fattycatty82 that was a major draw for me when we looked at but there is no way I’m lugging that thing down two flights of stairs now it’s here - it’s huge! Fortunately a friend has a Moses basket for us to have so will have that downstairs. But we still liked the rest of snuzpod benefits (part of which was fitting to our custom bed) so happy with. Tbf I think OH could get it downstairs fine but I wouldn’t want to.
I thought I had a fab date with the 21st but Xmas eve will be lovely 🥰 but yes feel you, my next one after that’s end of Jan and then as I’m high risk they’re like every 2/3 weeks from that point so should probably enjoy the peace of not traipsing to doctors!

Sarah239 · 05/12/2021 22:01

@fattycatty82 my 20 week scan is Xmas Eve too! And am I remembering wrong or did we have our 12 week scan on the same day (I remember wishing you luck I think?) my 12 week scan was 12th Nov. Is your due date around 16th May?

My husband and I have decided we can't be bothered to get eachother Christmas presents this year but we are both going to get a present each for the baby as that's more exciting! We always suck at getting eachother gifts anyway!

morphe · 05/12/2021 23:17

@LS2020 Yes, that is early for milk to come in! I didn't know it could come in this early - for me it's always taken a day after birth for any sign of milk at all.

I haven't thought about buying anything for the baby yet. I'm still too anxious about the 20 week anomaly scan to be honest, still feel there's opportunity for bad news. With DD we just put her straight into a full size cotbed (which she still sleeps in now as a 3 year old) and we'll probably do the same with the baby.

fattycatty82 · 06/12/2021 08:22

@Sarah239 yes all the same! Only I am (so they say) due on 17th. Christmas Eve is such a lovely day to find out gender isn't it 😊 make sure you post on here and let me know how it goes 🙏 xx

I am so confused about cots/next to me cribs and actually just buying a cot bed to last a while does seem like a good idea. I've definitely ruled out a Moses basket I haven't liked the ones I've seen in the shops I think they look a bit flimsy. Next to me cribs look the part but does anyone know how long baby can sleep in them?

EmmJJ1991 · 06/12/2021 08:29

Hey all this my first time on this app and I am just looking for some guidance. I am 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant and today I have had light pink discharge? Last 2 times I have wiped in the toilet.
Is this normal? Should I be worried?

lilacover · 06/12/2021 08:38

@fattycatty82 we had a snuzpod the first time, it lasted to six months only, no longer, however I would recommend it, it served us well and we will be buying a new mattress and using it again this time round. I used to occasionally use the cot in the nursery for naps to get the baby used to it before transitioning out, I would nap in there with them. This time I might also get a Moses basket for downstairs. Also some bassinets on prams can be used as a place to sleep.

@LS2020 first time round I started to leak colostrum around 4 months before baby was due, best get some pads on the go!

KMHH · 06/12/2021 09:31

@EmmJJ1991
I also had this around that time and I got told it was Implantation bleeding and to wear a pad to monitor it although it was only when I wiped, after a day or two it went but they say if it doesn't fill a pad then it is fine and most likely implantation bleeding around that time x

EmmJJ1991 · 06/12/2021 09:37

@KMHH thank you for your reassurance it is only when I wipe too and is just very light pink. I will monitor over next couple of days

MissM94 · 06/12/2021 10:13

Please can I join? I'm not currently on an active thread and I really want to be able to speak to people throughout our journeys 😁

I'm currently 17+3 due 14th of May, had my 16 week midwife app on Thursday - wouldn't let me listen to the heartbeat but then had a scan booked for later that afternoon to find out what baby is and heard it then! We had a look but didn't find out until Saturday.. it's a chubby, long legged, thumb sucking little baby boy 💙 I'll be 20 weeks on Christmas Day and have my 20 week scan on the 29th 🥰 how's everyone feeling?

Sarah239 · 06/12/2021 13:03

Welcome @MissM94 ! I agree it's nice to be able to talk with people at a similar stage and feel like you are all in it together.

@fattycatty82 that's nice! We will have to update on Xmas Eve! I am really excited for the scan but also worried incase we get bad news just before Christmas! Fingers crossed.

I've got my Xmas work do on Friday and in two minds whether to go or not - half of me wants to go just for a bit of fun and a nice meal, and the other half is just terrified about catching Covid. There will be about 15 people from my
company but apparently 200 in total all from different companies in one big function room :/ I bloody hate covid! If it was just my company I'd be less worried but it's the room full of 180 strangers that scares me!
