I haven't felt anything other than cramp/trapped wind either... 16 weeks today... this is my second baby but with a 20 plus year gap maybe it's the same as doing it all over again!

Yes how can my tummy be so much bigger in the evenings?!!

Im getting so impatient for my 20 week scan now.... just really want to know the gender and get confirmation that everything really is ok. I've been holding off on booking my NCT antenatal classes and pregnancy yoga until I know for sure. And of course, I'm desperate to start buying baby clothes!! 😍

TashieWoo · 30/11/2021 09:55

I have my 20 week scan two weeks today, I just want the reassurance too. Then we can start buying things after Christmas.

I have felt strange movements that I haven’t felt before, often like I’m being tickled/stroked from the inside. It isn’t every day though. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I will be feeling proper movements and worrying less.

EastMidsGem · 30/11/2021 10:58

@robyna the sonographer at the gender scan said I have an anterior placenta so I did ask whether that would cushion movements and she said it could do up to a certain point but you’re still likely to feel it once the baby is bigger after 20 weeks.

The 20 week scan is 17th Dec, I really hope I start to feel him by then

Expecttheunexpected2022 · 30/11/2021 12:58

Hey everyone, I haven't been posting much on here but I have been reading daily. I am 18 +1 weeks now, still suffering with hyperemisis however I have been having some days that are not as bad which is nice. I started feeling slight flutters over the weekend, felt like very light tickles on the inside and I felt maybe two or three over the span of the day. Yesterday I was feeling these more often and also felt like a whirlpool, stiring, mixing feeling once (don't know how to describe it). This lasted for about 30 seconds. Lovely to feel the movements and it makes dealing with hyperemisis that bit easier. Hope everyone is doing well, hard to believe that we are getting close to the half way mark :)

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 30/11/2021 14:10

@Bumblebee1119 similar to @Jowd92 here my husband hasn’t been to any appointments or even scans here as we have small children and he’s had to look after them as we have no one else nearby to help. He doesn’t seem to mind. He’s never been massively involved / interested in my pregnancies but he’s a very hands on, great dad to our boys so I’m sure he will be the same once our new baby is here.

@aNewYorkerInLondon lovely to have felt the baby move. I think about 16-20 weeks is average so sounds about right to me. I’ve been feeling this one since 14 weeks but it’s my third (and first one to have a posterior placenta) so not surprised to feel her moving earlier. She was going nuts jumping all over the place at my 12 and 16 week scans so I think I have a hyperactive one 😂

hwp22 · 30/11/2021 17:08

I've been feeling flutters and a sort of whirling / turning feeling on one side more than the other and as i'm expecting twins was a little concerned as to why but at my scan last week they said I have one anterior placenta and one posterior placenta and the side with the posterior is the side I can feel the baby move much more. I'm 15+2 and been having these fluttering feelings for a couple of weeks but I think i've felt movements early as there are two in there struggling for space! haha!

robyna · 30/11/2021 19:40

@EastMidsGem ah that makes sense then. My movements are only really subtle so I don't even notice them when I'm busy but when I'm in bed I sometimes feel her.

@TashieWoo maybe you just have a gentle baby 😂 mine clearly likes to whack me all the time

morphe · 01/12/2021 11:35

@Bumblebee1119 my DH has only come to the scans, I told him not to bother coming to the routine appointments as it's just taking history, taking samples and chatting. He'd have to take a couple hours off work for the round trip but then he'd have to catch up with work later - for me it's better for him to get all his work done in work time so he can help out in the evenings (with our DD).

I have just checked my notes and I have a posterior placenta too, so I guess that's why I've felt movements fairly early.

Bubbasmama2017 · 01/12/2021 13:47

Yes I have an anterior placenta apparently and only felt 1 or 2 slight movements although she said once they're stronger we should feel them like normal.

KMHH · 01/12/2021 19:35

Finally covid free and able to see my baby which felt like forever! Baby is doing great! Never been so anxious as obviously I've been really poorly with covid but seeing all the movements and the heartbeat was the best feeling! Found out we are having a little girl ! 💕 I also have an anterior placenta however, have been feeling movements as she is also breech at the moment.
Hope everyone is doing well 😊🥰 x

GinnyBee · 01/12/2021 20:47

Congratulations @KMHH ! Must have been so scary!

I had my 16-week appointment today, heard the little heartbeat! So relieved. Having had two losses before this pregnancy I still can't fully relax and every time we have a scan or today the doppler came out I'm bricking it that we'll get bad news again. But not today! Private scan next Saturday and we should find out the gender then!

I haven't felt any movements yet but as it's my first and I'm only just 16 weeks that's not surprising. I wish I'll be able to soon though, it might ease the anxiety!

So pleased to see you’re feeling better @KMHH and you got to see your baby, I hope the rest of your pregnancy is illness free now!

Lovely update from you too @GinnyBee, hearing the heartbeat alongside the whooshing placenta is so magical.

I’m 18+3 and haven’t felt any movements yet, it’s so hard not to worry but my sonographer at the gender scan last weekend said that with this being my first baby I probably won’t feel anything until 20-24 weeks. It would really put my mind at rest if I did feel baby move though.

TashieWoo · 01/12/2021 22:13

@robyna my mum told me yesterday that I was a gentle baby and didn’t move much, so maybe mine takes after me! I’m really looking forward to feeling movements though.

H0peing · 01/12/2021 23:28

@KMHH I am so pleased that you're now covid free and had a great scan today!❤ Congratulations on finding out that you're having a girl as well! I'm extremely excited to be having a daughter too! How many weeks are you now? xxxxx

H0peing · 01/12/2021 23:37

@GinnyBee So pleased for you that you're 16 week appointment went well today!💗 Mine was last week so it seems like we're only a week apart. I had four miscarriages before this pregnancy (all very early at 8 weeks or under) so I understand that you can't fully relax as I haven't either but this is way beyond the high risk zone (up to 12 week scan) and it will be lovely to start feeling the movements in only a few weeks time! It's great that you've booked a private scan too!Smilexxxx

GinnyBee · 02/12/2021 08:02

@H0peing Sorry to hear about your losses xxx I really thought that if we make it past the point when I lost the other two and into the second trimester I would be getting excited and stop worrying, but alas, the fear is still there. It's faded a lot and I'm feeling a little bit more joy now, but still every time we approach a point we might find out I get really nervous.

KMHH · 02/12/2021 10:08

@H0peing thank you so much! Arww how lovely! There are so many nice girly things out there I have to stop myself! I'm 16+3. My pregnancy symptoms have pretty much all gone so I think the next few weeks it will be like a dream. You take care of yourself 💕 xxxxx

morphe · 02/12/2021 11:45

Lovely to hear your scans have gone well @KMHH and @GinnyBee.

Does anyone else have a work Christmas party coming up? I've been trying on dresses today as I'll have a work dinner soon - not maternity dresses just some clothes I already had, but they aren't designed for a pregnant body and it just looks tight in the wrong places! I was hoping to avoid buying maternity stuff that wouldn't get worn much - might have to go for maternity jeans and nice top combo as it's a bit more versatile.

GinnyBee · 02/12/2021 11:55

@morphe We had our work Christmas lunch yesterday and luckily it was just casual so just wore nice corduroys and a top rather than try to find party attire. And we've made an office wide decision to skip any other Christmas dos in light of the new covid situation, so that was it then, no other events coming up! I'm also trying to get away with wearing normal clothes as long as possible and when needed just get loose fitting comfies rather than dedicated maternity wear so they can be useful for longer. I absolutely hate fast fashion and always try to get stuff from sustainable brands and make them last as long as possible, and only buy stuff I know will get lots of use.

fattycatty82 · 02/12/2021 12:47

@GinnyBee good for you I wish I was more like this with clothes, I am quite minimalist with most things but clothes and books not so much.

I'm wondering when everyone is planning to start their maternity leave? I have 10 days annual leave I have to take beforehand so I could potentially leave last day of April, however it's my 40th in March and I don't fancy working so might take a week then and work up until second week in May (due date 17th). I'm just curious if people are planning to work up until the last minute or hoping to take a bit of a break beforehand. I mostly work from home so it's doable but I also remember how knackered and achy I was towards the end!

GinnyBee · 02/12/2021 12:54

@fattycatty82 I'm planning to start mat leave 1st April and tack my annual leave at the end, our leave resets in April so probably don't have time to take it before mat leave, I'm also due on the 17th but will ask for an ELCS so will be a bit earlier. I definitely don't want to be working right until my due date, I want to do some Netflix watching before we have a screaming baby interrupting everything 😂 Where I'm originally from mat leave always starts at the latest 30 days before due date.

OP posts:
itssquidstella · 02/12/2021 13:21

I’m hoping to start mat leave as late as possible but as I’m a teacher I might ask to wfh for the summer term (we go back on April 26th so would only be 4 weeks until my due date) as a compromise.

EastMidsGem · 02/12/2021 13:58

I’m starting maternity as early as possible on 14th Feb (due 2nd May). I wasn’t planning to start it that early but my work has asked me to start going back into the office 3 days a week and it’s going to be an uncomfortable hour drive each way without traffic issues. Our holiday starts 1st Jan but they will only let me add onto the front what I will have accrued before maternity, so 3 days.

@fattycatty82 I am totally the same with clothes and books! I plan to do lots of reading in my maternity before baby comes

@GinnyBee I’ll also be getting some Netflix in!

TashieWoo · 02/12/2021 16:26

I’m not sure about maternity leave yet, I’m starting a new job at the beginning of January (they know my situation and I’m still getting the enhanced package!) and I get 20 weeks full pay then 19 weeks statutory, I wouldn’t mind a week off pre baby but I want to keep the leave for when she’s here.

I have quite a stressful deadline-driven job but I can do it from home so I’d like to go until my due date of 1st May, knowing that first babies are often late. I think work will be quite flexible and I will see how I feel when the time comes.

In terms of clothes - I have a few parties coming up and a trip to the races on Boxing Day - I like to wear loose-ish clothing anyway so I have a few dresses that still fit and I’ve bought a couple of maternity dresses from ASOS, they always seem to have a little sale on too.

Sarah239 · 02/12/2021 18:26

I am just back from my 16 week appointment... I was pleasantly surprised the midwife did use the Doppler so I got to hear baby's heartbeat! Took a while to find and was wriggling around a lot, amazing! I am normally too shy to ask these things but I cheekily asked if I could record and send a Whatsapp audio recording to my husband and she let me so I have it to listen back to now 🙌 If you don't ask, you don't get! Recommend others to do the same 🥰

I am planning on starting my maternity leave 4 weeks before I'm due... which would be 16th April! I just want a break and time to rest as who knows when I will next get that! And you never know, baby could come early!
