Is anyone else not feeling the bump yet? Last week I had a moment when I was lying on my tummy that felt like there was a tennis ball under me (but muffled, like wrapped in a pillow if that makes sense) and now I can't feel it anymore? I'm 15 weeks, don't know if that's normal. My anxious brain is wanting to get worried that my bump is shrinking and I must have had another mmc...

hi @GinnyBee I'm 14 +4 and have just been lurking but thought I would comment as I have been feeling a tiny hard bump under my little pouch lately but its gone completely squishy today. After some unnecessary panicking and googling I've read that it's totally normal! The hardness can be bloating/gas which goes soft when its gone or the bub can move back towards the spine which means the hardness goes. Hope this helps you feel better! x

GinnyBee · 25/11/2021 12:37

Thanks @florencebunny !!

Ohh If it’s ok I’ll request to join FB group too ☺️

Elsie2021 · 25/11/2021 17:37

@GinnyBee I am 15+3 and also don’t think I have a bump yet. I had a MMC too so it worries me a bit but I do think it’s normal!

LS2020 · 25/11/2021 22:55

@GinnyBee my “bump” has been all over the place, definitely a bloating thing I think. However I turned 16 weeks yesterday and something just seems to have popped out a little more and now I can’t hide if I tried. My stomach is still a mix of hard and soft too but had my 16 week midwife appointment today and she had a push on tummy when doing heartbeat and showing student midwife where the top of my uterus was and she seemed pleased with it (deffo higher than I thought!) and I would have claimed it was all fat 😂

Bubbasmama2017 · 26/11/2021 09:22

I had the midwife yesterday and it took them a while to find the heart beat, she said my uterus seems quite high up so that explains why my bump seems big above where I was expecting! I was worried she would say something about my weight gain but she wasn't bothered so I was relieved about that Smile
Scan for the gender tomorrow!! So excited

aNewYorkerInLondon · 26/11/2021 09:41

So, there’s lots of adorable things in this weekend’s sales. We’re not due until May, so I don’t want to go overboard, but I’m wondering if experienced mothers could comment on how many newborn sized clothes they needed before moving to the 0-3 months sizes. I know every baby is different - I’m just curious about averages.

fattycatty82 · 26/11/2021 09:53

@aNewYorkerInLondon I would also love to know exactly this! How many items in each size?? So tempted to start buying now but waiting until jan

Bubbasmama2017 · 26/11/2021 10:42

With my first pregnancy they thought baby was going to be on the larger side so I packed a newborn onsie for their going home outfit and it was way too big. I'd say get a few first size/tiny baby for the first week or so. And maybe 10-15 new born. People will probably buy you 0-3 month ones as well!

morphe · 26/11/2021 11:19

We just got one multipack of newborn onesies. It was my PIL's first grandchild, so we got lots of clothes from them and also my DSis (who just likes buying baby clothes). To be honest, we were gifted so many clothing sets that we had to make an effort to rotate outfits to make sure DD got to wear them at least once.

Sarah239 · 26/11/2021 13:37

@Bubbasmama2017 was that your 16 week midwife appointment?

I've got mine on Thurs and not really sure what it's for/what to expect! I was hoping I might get to hear the heartbeat but we will see...

EastMidsGem · 26/11/2021 14:49

The midwife at my 16 week appointment said she wouldn’t try to listen for the heartbeat until the next appointment in January! I think that’s because of my higher BMI though, it would make it more difficult at this stage I suppose.

3 weeks today until my 20 week scan!

Bubbasmama2017 · 26/11/2021 15:09

@Sarah239 yes they just asked how I was doing I mentioned a few symptoms and also booked in a couple of other appointments like my GD test and the next midwife appointment. They listened to the heartbeat but I know in my previous area they didn't like to do this until way later so it might just be my new area that do this at the 16 week one.

Bubbasmama2017 · 26/11/2021 15:12

@EastMidsGem that's a shame it seems they're all different. I had a trainee in so maybe she wanted to get her checking stuff as part of her training. My BMI is higher too hence the gestational diabetes test, have they booked you in for one too?

Anyone who had a gender scan can they listen to the heart beat at that? My daughter is coming and I know she'd love to hear it

newmama2022 · 26/11/2021 15:19

Hi I'm currently 19 weeks pregnant (due in April) and I would just like to people's views on heated blankets.
My back has been playing up today and I thought I would use my electric heated blanket on my back. It was on its highest setting, and I had it on for about 40ish minutes.
I'm now worrying as I have looked it up on the internet and apparently this can harm the development of the baby? Is this true?
I check my temperature and it wasn't high so is this ok?
I'm a first time mum, so wasn't aware of the dangers of overheating.
Am I stressing over nothing?

fattycatty82 · 26/11/2021 15:25

Did anyone take their partner to 16 week appt? Mine is next weekend and he wants to come but not sure if there's any point. Scans are different of course!

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 26/11/2021 15:30

@aNewYorkerInLondon I probably wouldn’t get any newborn sizes until the baby is born or just one or two things to be honest. My first baby was 7lb13 and 0-3 was a little big for him but we just rolled the sleeves up until my husband went to the supermarket and bought one pack of newborn. He was only in that size for maybe 2 weeks. The second time around I bought a few more newborn size clothes and my second son was 9lb and he fit in them (a tight fit!) for literally about 3 days. This time I will buy 0-3 and if she is small and looks swamped in them I’ll get some more but not going to waste my money in case I have another 9lb-er!

EastMidsGem · 26/11/2021 15:52

@Bubbasmama2017 at my gender scan we could see the heartbeat but didn’t listen to it. I think that varies too. Strange because there was a student in on the 16 week appointment but maybe it’s at the discretion of the midwife and some prefer to wait? I had only had my gender scan 3 days prior so I wasn’t too upset about her not trying the doppler.

@fattycatty82 I didn’t take my hubby but I could have done I believe if I wanted to. It really doesn’t last very long though.

@newmama2022 I’m afraid I don’t know for sure but I know you are still supposed to be able to use hot water bottles and have baths just not too hot. I haven’t dared do either myself. Try not to worry yourself too much. Always best to check with your midwife/community midwife number if you’re worried

fattycatty82 · 26/11/2021 15:57

@newmama2022 I've read so much online that I'm not suppose to do while pregnant that if I followed every rule I'd be sat in a dark room not moving all day! I have hot baths (reasonable not piping), use a hot water bottle at my desk (but don't put it directly on my tummy) and have even had a jacuzzi at my gym (haven't stayed in it more than 5-10 mins) and I think it's fine. Try not to worry but speak to midwife if you're not sure xx

@EastMidsGem Thanks, told him it'd be boring!
