Kirky658 · 25/07/2021 07:28

@khr1 yes I know, for me it would make more sense for them to be flexible and allow visitors to book a slot each day. Especially as my DH would be fully vaccinated by then and more than willing to take a test every day. Just have to wait and see I guess.

Is anyone else starting to struggle along now? I feel so heavy and achy all the time. Now she's gone head down my bump has shifted and I can't see my feet anymore! Just so exhausted now and have so little energy.

marshmallowmode · 25/07/2021 08:01

What size nappies do you need to take to the hospital? We're using reusables as soon as we get home but I was going to take disposables for when we're there to simplify things. No idea what to get though!

@Kirky658 I have good days and bad days from a discomfort point of view. Some days I feel great (as long as I don't try and walk up any hills 😂) and others my bump feels so heavy and I'm really uncomfortable.

SP2Bx · 25/07/2021 09:06

@marshmallowmode Most Size 1 nappies are 4-11lbs which I'm hoping covers it!!!

@Kirky658 Sorry to hear you're struggling, hopefully baby is just in a particularly uncomfortable position right now, but the end is in sight! Treat yourself to a nice bath and some lovely moisturiser or a bump mask perhaps? xx

Kirky658 · 25/07/2021 12:14

@marshmallowmode @sp2bx been swimming this morning which I actually really enjoyed, took the weight off bump a bit. 😊 7 weeks feels like a long time but I keep telling myself she could be here in 4...

KHR1 · 25/07/2021 12:22

@Kirky658 definitely struggling along here! My pelvis is so sore, feet feel bruised and nothing is comfy. Still not sure if baby is breech or head down so I'm trying to do things on my hands and knees a few times a day but then feel like I'm going to get stuck on the floor 🙈 Luckily I've finished work now (maternity doesn't start until the end of August but off for the 6 week holidays now).

Newmum110 · 25/07/2021 14:35

I've been told now that my baby's head is down. So uncomfortable & difficult to walk. Can't imagine going on this for another 7 weeks. Does anyone know if this means that the baby might come early if already down?

Kirky658 · 25/07/2021 14:53

@newmum110 I asked my midwife this, she said head wasn't engaged yet and it's very normal for them to be head down by 32 weeks. I'm just hoping she stays that way!

CherLW · 25/07/2021 17:35

@Newmum110 @Kirky658 I went to the MAU again today for reduced movements. Whilst I was there she told me he was head down but not engaged… they said they don’t really worry or look at doing anything until about 36 weeks.

SP2Bx · 25/07/2021 20:30

@Newmum110 I was told baby was head down at my 31wk appointment on Weds but pretty sure they've moved out of that and back again since then even with some of the kicks I've been getting! The way I see it is there's plenty of time to go still, but if they're practicing getting into that position already then hopefully nearer the time they'll get comfy and stay there :) I won't worry about it until 36 weeks ish probably, when I'll be doing everything I can to make sure baby stays there!!!!

Taybz · 26/07/2021 12:38

Can't believe how quickly the time is going! How's it going with your birth plans? Have you completed it? I'm doing mine this week as I finally have a midwife appointment after almost a month. Has anyone's midwife gone through this with them already? Mine is so disinterested in everything and doesn't ask me anything, just waits for me to ask everything. Not sure if this is normal of midwives 🤔

Bubbles1st · 26/07/2021 13:09

@Taybz don't get me started on the community midwife team. The last visit I came out a sobbing mess it was so awful and today I passed her on the way out of the surgery, she accused me being late and then said she had a home birth to go to.

I basically lost in the car park with her, said why am I not surprised, it's the most disappointing professional service I've ever come across, why didn't she ring me if she thought I was late, why didn't she ring me to tell me she had to cancel due to home birth. I was so angry and upset, refused to let her rearrange it and when she offered to come to my house I said definitely not! Not my proudest moment but I'm just so furious at how it's all happened since about week 16 and if it wasn't for my growth scans and extra hospital appointments I would have literally been getting on with pregnancy alone despite it being my first.

Today was meant to be 34 week appointment and birth plan discussion so just upset as it's such a huge topic for me!

Hope everyone else is having a better experience

Suma2021 · 26/07/2021 13:09

@Taybz My midwife appointments have all been like this, I always feel like they're trying to just rush me out of the appointment and move on to the next person! Especially as a FTM I wish they would give a little more information without me having to ask.

I did ask at my 31 week appointment last week what I need to do about a birth plan and was told after I've completed my "Preparing for Baby" course I will get more information on how to put it together as well as a template to use. However I won't be finished with the course until end of Aug Hmm

For now I've given it a lot of thought but haven't written down anything officially. I want to be open minded and flexible (as of course anything can happen!) but just have a good think about what I feel more strongly about.

What really helped me brainstorm is reading Milli Hill 'The Positive Birth Book' where there's a whole chapter on birth plans Smile

Taybz · 26/07/2021 13:31

@Bubbles1st that sounds awful sorry but I'm glad you at least gave her a piece of your mind! I wish I could be more outspoken in these situations - mine is actually friendly in nature but just blasé about everything.

@Suma2021 that course sounds interesting - is it a paid one? Also an ftm here and honestly I don't get offered any information, really strange these midwives behave like this! Mine hasn't actually said she'll discuss the birth plan with me at any point, I'm just going to request it.

Does anyone reckon it would be possible to request a new midwife at this point or would that be considered rude? I mean, mine hasn't done anything wrong as such but she hasn't done anything well either. Getting information is like pulling teeth!

Noodles4Me · 26/07/2021 13:40

@Taybz you can absolutely request another midwife and you may get lucky. Do it, just so there is a record of it. These things do get reviewed sometimes.

I haven't had the same midwife from the start due to sickness so have seen some good, some so disinterested I don't know why they bother in the job.

Also, the birth plan is never looked at again so personally, I'd get that discussed the second you are in hospital with the midwives/doctors who will be looking after you, literally no point at this stage. Which is shit, but it is how things seem to work 😏😐

Suma2021 · 26/07/2021 13:54

@Taybz I'm not sure what to expect for the course! It's free and run online - 2x hours for 4x Satudays - it's run by Hertfordshire Community Trust and was suggested to me by my midwife quite early on. I thought, it's free so why not.
Have you booked anything?

Also not exactly a course but I watched some great YouTube videos the other day that managed to entertain my husband as well so that's good Grin. American I think but some good bits of information in there, there's 3 videos but here's a link to the first part:
m.youtube.com/watch?v=j7YucfJuziU

I know exactly what you mean about the midwives! Don't know what to suggest though Sad

Mamabearwhere · 26/07/2021 14:16

Hi ladies. Hope you’re all well. Can’t believe how close we are now to meeting our babies.

I wondered how many of you have had the Covid vaccine? I wasn’t going to get it until baby is born as had Covid in December and been checking my antibodies and they’re still quite high but have suddenly decided that I will just to be super safe. My doctor friend told me if you get the vaccine during pregnancy it goes through the placenta and immunises baby too which is helpful since my older two will be going to school come September and will probably be bringing all sorts home . Just intrigued to know what your symptoms were after? I’m already not feeling too great with this pregnancy so result afraid of feeling more unwell! Trying to mentally prepare.

Kirky658 · 26/07/2021 14:21

@taybz my midwife kinda washed her hands of most stuff after I told her we'd been to antenatal classes that were ran by a midwife!

@mamabearwhere I've had my first one back in June, I was tired, sore arm and headache, felt a bit fluey for a day or so. Hoping to have my second mid August. X

KHR1 · 26/07/2021 14:22

@Mamabearwhere after the first one I had a sore arm for a few days and a bad headache for about a day after. No symptoms at all after the second one. I have heard people say though that if you've had covid sometimes you feel a bit more rubbish after the first dose than people who haven't had it but most people who have said that had AZ not pfeizer

D0nut · 26/07/2021 14:26

Hi @Mamabearwhere I just had my second vaccine last Monday. I felt fine with both apart from a sore arm, particularly sore with the first.

Bubblegum20 · 26/07/2021 14:52

@Mamabearwhere I've had both my vaccines, I only had a funny taste in my mouth after the first one for about a day, and a bit of an achy arm that was it, I didn't have any side effects with the second dose!

leftitlate37 · 26/07/2021 14:53

hey all! lots of catching up 2 do! thought i might have missed the end of this thread and youd be onto a new one!
Cant believe its getting so close to sept, eeeek! baby DEF entered a rapid growth phase, swear every day hes grown again! Seem to have spent loads of time at triage/antenatal lately, reduced movement, growth scans and then needing Anti D after falling over, but luckily been confirmed growth now all fine so back to normal appt now.
we have finally got stuff bought etc but still not packed bags etc, and defo need to tidy up his room etc - not that he will be in it for a while but it currently feels v much like the dumping ground!
@Kirky658 weve cancelled our anniversary trip :( didnt fancy it with cases round here, wish coming to north wales with u ha!
@Mamabearwhere had both mine, and felt ok after both - just a sore arm. had worried would feel worse with 2nd but definitely didnt.
am so relieved its cooler this week, last week was awful!! does anyone else feel terrible after eating? i know meant 2 to be doing little and often, but honestly i get so uncomfortable and then seem to just burn up and have 2 lie down with cold t towel on me!
sorry some of u having bad experiences with midwives etc. couple of friends here are having the same challenge. its so poor, havent even had a birth plan or been offered support with it and giving birth any day now. as if its not hard enough for first time mums u at least want to feel supported.

Kirky658 · 26/07/2021 15:05

@leftitlate37 oh bless you hun! Can you make some nice plans for at home instead? We are still going - mostly as mask wearing is still the rule as is social distancing in Wales so I'd feel safer there than here!

Does anyone else's bump just feel so heavy now? I struggle to get up off the sofa sometimes and it feels like it's just weighing me down. Feels so hard and tight too.

leftitlate37 · 26/07/2021 15:23

Yes!! I need hauling off the floor!! Even hubby said it felt heavy when he touched it when was lying in bed. Tell me about it!!!
Glad u r still going @Kirky658, we felt much better in wales the other week, esp parts of North where cases really low. Have a fab time! We r still ditching the doggies as planned and will go have a nice roast dinner or afternoon tea outside somewhere!!
