@sillybry yep same as me!!!! I wonder if its her arms down on the left side but unsure. Do let us know what your midwife says please - as we are on hols next week I aren't seeing midwife till 35 weeks now. Xx

bewitchingnight · 28/07/2021 21:44

@Kirky658 yes I think it's arms or hands that I can feel lower down. I know what you mean about assuming a straight line, my bump is literally hard on one side and soft on the other 😂

marshmallowmode · 28/07/2021 21:48

I had a midwife appointment today and she told me baby was head down (not engaged) with back on one side of my belly button and limbs towards the other. I can feel movements on both sides because sometimes he kicks/punches and sometimes it's him sticking his bum out 😂

He did swap over sides multiple times while she was trying to find his heartbeat too (and actively pushed against the doppler at one point in indignation haha).

MrsTD88 · 28/07/2021 22:10

@AdventuresAwait @Noodles4Me oh that's reassuring to know you've both been booked in. How are you feeling about it? Nervous, excited?

@Kirky658 I had a private scan 2 weeks ago and she was head down but I can feel my kicks all over. On the scan she had her feet up over head so she's doing lots of acrobatics in there.

AdventuresAwait · 28/07/2021 22:11

@Kirky658, my baby has been head down for weeks now and I feel movements on either side, in line with my belly button or above on my right side. Last time, they told me head was down, starting to engage, back to the left of my belly button and legs to the right (as I look down). I think she still is, as I get kicks to the right and more of a rounded shape to the left which I think must be her back? But I've got a midwife appointment on Friday so will see then! Xx

SillyBry · 28/07/2021 22:14

@AdventuresAwait sounds just like me - my left side is all hard... and the right is soft! I sometimes find when I lie in bed, I can feel the huge lump in my way!

AdventuresAwait · 28/07/2021 22:18

@MrsTD88, I felt really relieved when they booked it and gave us a date as I was unsure what they'd say (they suggested an induction at 38 weeks). I didn't really want a c-section (but much prefer that over an induction) so mixed emotions, but I'm feeling excited and actually it's quite nice to know when she'll be here (unless she comes early). Nervous about the anaesthetic and recovery but really feel this is best for us personally as I have a few risk factors for an emergency cesarean so I'm feeling quite calm and just looking forward to meeting our little girl. I've also got a great book about cesarean sections which I've found great so that has helped. Only 5 weeks to go! I'm sure the nerves will increase as I haven't had an op before but, at the same time, I can't wait. So many different thoughts and feelings! Xx

AdventuresAwait · 28/07/2021 22:19

@MrsTD88, have they already agreed your ELCS? Xx

AdventuresAwait · 28/07/2021 22:21

@SillyBry, yes! Sometimes my left side is so hard! I think she stretches as it goes a bit softer again afterwards xx

SP2Bx · 28/07/2021 22:23

@Kirky658 my baby is head down and I've thought exactly the same cause I feel kicks all over!

Like @bewitchingnight I have an anterior placenta, and they're definitely slightly diagonal on the right and must twist and turn because I get back/bum sticking out on the right all the time, then up in my diaphragm and kicks under my ribs too... but tonight I could feel them all the way over on my left like they've twisted side on but still head down 🤷🏼‍♀️

Noodles4Me · 28/07/2021 22:33

@MrsTD88 I am excited, not nervous. I'm sure I'll get nervous. I've had a lot of surgeries in the past so I know it's not easy but it's safer for me and baby and that's the most important thing.

He's coming out at 39 weeks. I'm currently first on list for that day Grin

MrsTD88 · 28/07/2021 22:35

@AdventuresAwait it sounds as if you have made the right decision for you. I hated induction last time and ended up having an emergency section in the end so I can understand your reasons for not wanting that. The anaesthetic is okay and the recovery isn't too bad if you take it easy and make the most of people offering to help. I actually really enjoyed my first few days in hospital bonding with baby and getting to grips with feeding. Yes, the consultant was happy with my reasons for wanting one and said she didn't have any issues. They won't let me go over 40 weeks this time anyway and standard induction isn't allowed because there is a risk of scar rupture. She said section would be around 39 weeks if they're happy with my growth scans. X

MrsTD88 · 28/07/2021 22:37

@Noodles4Me absolutely, I totally agree the safety of you and baby is the main thing. 💙 oh that's so exciting to have a date and time, you're so close to the finish line! X

GWhiteley · 28/07/2021 22:47

Hi @Bubbles1st had my birthing plan app with the midwife, though it wasn't my own midwife but a cover one.
She breezed through all the worst case scenarios for induction, including how long it can take. Asked me about pain relief, told me I won't be able to have a bath or shower after the birth since I'm having an epidural & I won't be able to walk (😬) and to make sure I have at least an hr of skin to skin contact as soon as she's born including trying to feed her. She said things like weighing baby etc can all wait & this bit is the most important. She asked me if I had any questions then took my blood pressure, checked babies heartbeat best & sent me on my way. Whole thing took 40 mins.
Ooh, she also checked my hospital bag list & said definitely need to take everything for baby inc. blanket as they'll only wrap her in a towel. She also said she never recommends sudocreme as it doesn't work well with the way nappies absorb the liquid nowadays

I am 35+4w and have a Health Visitor coming round my house today. First I thought it was to do with me choosing home birth but then I looked at my notes and home visit is part of the routine appts (for first timers at least) in my Trust. Not quite sure what to expect from it. Anyone has any experience with home visits? X

Bubbles1st · 29/07/2021 07:26

@GWhiteley of course she breezed the induction details 🙈 they must think we've never spoken to anyone or used the internet before!

Sounds reasonably thorough otherwise though and pleased the appointment was a good length! Thanks for coming back to share!

@deedeebythesea I got a letter earlier this week to advise the Health Visitor will be coming out in a few weeks. This is my second baby, she came round with the first too. It is just an informal chat about their role until baby is 5. I have heard some can be a bit hit or miss but I loved ours and really glad it is the same one. We could ask her anything. When our first had an all over rash she got us some ointment prescribed that day. She'll likely talk about immunisations etc too and your own mental health and support systems. The midwives disappear about 10 days post birth so the health visitors are the next step in care for baby. They usually run the local baby clinic for having baby weighed and they give you baby's little red book.

unicornpower · 29/07/2021 09:02

@SP2Bx Anterior placenta here too and you could have described the exact movements i feel! A little foot (or hand) stuck out just under my ribs the other day and it was so weird! we were both poking back and she just pressed harder haha some of her rolls make me feel queasy though. I do feel what i can only assume is a bum sticking out of my right hand side and i look very lopsided!

@GWhiteley Thats really interesting about the induction, Can i ask why you're being induced? sorry if you've already said but is it big baby or something else? I only ask as I have polyhydraminos so being induced is a definite possibility if the amniotic fluid hasn't reduced/got worse and I've not really spoken or met anyone who's been induced yet! I assume you can have a shower once you've recovered from the epidural/birth?

KHR1 · 29/07/2021 09:07

@deedeebythesea from what I can remember from the health visit for DC1 they gave me the red book which is the baby's child health record thing, gave leaflets about local classes and baby weigh in clinics, talked about safe sleeping and my plans for where baby would nap during the day etc. Tbh it was just a nice chat with opportunities to ask questions about anything I wasn't sure about once baby was here

With baby position, all of the middle of my bump feels hard (like one big lump!) then sometimes I get a smaller lump under my ribs on the right, but sometimes it feels squishy like a bum other times it feels hard like it could be a head. I seem to get movements here, there and everywhere - yesterday it felt like baby was trying to claw its way out of my pelvis but then other times kicks feel like they are down my left or under my ribs. I'm so confused about how baby is laying!

Mrsserenalewis · 29/07/2021 09:42

Having baby brain moment. My itchiness is getting worse. To the point I’m not sleeping well more than normal. Who do I ring. (Uk) TIA x

Kat1112025 · 29/07/2021 09:45

@Mrsserenalewis ring your midwife, who should be able to refer you to obstetrician, or may ask you to go straight in.
They'll want to check it's just regular itchiness and not ICP.

marshmallowmode · 29/07/2021 10:06

@Mrsserenalewis yeah I'd mention it to your midwife. Ive started getting itchy feet in the evenings and when I mentioned it at my appointment yesterday she said I needed to have bloods done to check for obstetric cholestatis (OC/ICP) just in case. Unfortunately I mentioned it after she'd already taken my routine bloods so I ended up having to go to the hospital this morning to get them done again!

When I arrived at the hospital (first time since transferring from another Trust) the receptionist told me I hadn't had a booking appointment (I have, with the midwife) and that I hadn't had a 12 week scan.... At 31 weeks pregnant I should hope I had haha! They seemed very confused about it all but did do my bloods thankfully. So need to chase up with the midwife about all that.

Mrsserenalewis · 29/07/2021 12:16

I had OC with my last two pregnancies. I mentioned that I was itchy during my 28week midwife appointment but she said it’s not likely before 30weeks. I got it early with my last.
I’m at maternity triage now waiting to have bloods done.

X

I won't be able to have a bath or shower after the birth since I'm having an epidural & I won't be able to walk

@GWhiteley Well that’s bullshit, last time I had an epidural initially then a spinal at the end and I still walked to the wheelchair to take to to the post natal ward 😬. Oh and a shower after tea 😂

Are they purposefully trying to sway your decisions?!
