Hey everyone!

I am currently 10 weeks on the dot, due 26th October!
My first one so fairly new to it all. Had my midwife booking appt. last monday but still no scan letter.
When did you ladies recieve yours and should I chase it?

Worried with bank hols it will be delay it and don't think my anxiety can take a delayed scan hahaha

MyGrassIsBrowner · 31/03/2021 17:42

@Juicytoot287 Congrats!! I would give your MW a call as I'm pretty sure they are supposed to book your scan for you at booking appointment. I got my scan letter through a few days after my booking apt.

milkyway91 · 31/03/2021 19:07

@MeltingSnowflake thank you so much. I will definitely get this!

I'm getting quite nervous to wait for my 12 week scan... Don't know whether it's worth having a private scan or just waiting a couple more weeks. I've heard mixed opinions about the private companies. I think I'm just over thinking... Haha

milkyway91 · 31/03/2021 19:08

@MyGrassIsBrowner thanks! Might take you up on that!

Cpr12 · 31/03/2021 19:09

I have pretty much told everyone I am pregnant. Told my family about 2 hours after finding out as it was my sisters birthday and knew it would make her day. Everyone else I have told whenever I have chatted to them. Most people knew by 6 weeks haha! I wont be doing any online announcement though.

On the birth plan thing, all I know is for me hospital all the way. Although unsure of anything else at this stage! The midwife does ask at your first appointment here where you want to give birth though which i find really odd. I mean you haven't even had it confirmed there is a baby in there but already choose a hospital. Have other people had that or is it an Edinburgh quirk?

Cpr12 · 31/03/2021 19:11

@milkyway91 I got a private early scan for that reason, but will say the next day was back to worrying again. So yes it is great, but for me there would have been no difference if I had never had it, if that makes sense....

I am a week today for my scan and cannot wait. The days just take forever, want to see my wee one again ❤

milkyway91 · 31/03/2021 19:33

@Cpr12 yeah that happened to me too. I'm in Sussex and was really pushed for what hospital I wanted to give birth at... Despite me saying we hadn't given 'birth' any thought at all at 5 weeks. Haha.

That's what I'm thinking about the scan- I will have a think about it as no doubt the day after I will still be worrying. Doh!

Jl2020 · 31/03/2021 19:44

Thankyou so much for that information @MyGrassIsBrowner i will definitely look into getting some books to read to find out more about hypnobirthing! I really would want to avoid an epidural if possible anyway but I say that now who knows if I'll be able to deal with the pain 😂 my mum had 7 children with no pain relief not even gas and air so I'm hoping I can follow in her footsteps! The thought of tearing is awful so also want to avoid that if I can!

@Juicytoot287 I am exactly 10 weeks today aswell and don't have a scan date yet however my booking in appointment isn't until Friday!

@Cpr12 when the midwife called me the other day to make my booking appointment she asked me then which hospital I would want to go! Which is also thought was odd considering that wasn't even my booking in appointment. Until I know everything is ok with baby I probably won't really look into the perks of each hospital near me! I do know if I choose one of the hospitals I can have my scans in my hometown rather than going to that bigger hospital which would be a bonus as closer.

Cpr12 · 31/03/2021 19:55

@milkyway91 the good thing about the early scan was photos of my baby looking like a turtle! And I got a pic of the two sides of its brain which I find very cool haha! Not sure I would ask the NHS for that as it feels too official a time 😂

@jl2020 glad you at least have the booking in appointment now! The scan wont be too far behind I hope! Seems very unfair some people are waiting so long for dates. I was booked in for both at 4 weeks.

MeltingSnowflake · 31/03/2021 20:25

PS @MyGrassIsBrowner I love your announcement photo! 😂

milkyway91 · 31/03/2021 21:06

@Jl2020 your mum sounds like an absolute hero. Hopefully your scan will be shortly after your appointment and then there's less waiting inbetween.

@Cpr12 the thought of a turtle scan is making it sound even more appealing!

Congrats @Juicytoot287!

MeltingSnowflake · 31/03/2021 21:29

Ooh @Juicytoot287 & @Jl2020 I’m exactly 10 weeks today too! 😁 Snap

Jessica86Shropshire · 31/03/2021 23:07

@MyGrassIsBrowner yes it's my first - so worried about something going wrong. Thank you for your lovely words and loved your FB announcementSmile. I think I will tell a couple of close friends after the NHS 12 week scan then share more widely after 20 weeks if I can manage to keep it quiet Smile

Jl2020 · 01/04/2021 07:16

@milkyway91 I honestly don't know how my mum done it, she wouldn't even take the gas and air as has a phobia of being sick 😂 certainly a hero for raising 7 kids though I have 5 brothers and 1 sister!

I'm thinking I will probably just tell everyone after the 12 week scan as I really don't think I will be able to keep it quiet until the 20 week scan. Iv already found it hard keeping it quit until now lol xx

MyGrassIsBrowner · 01/04/2021 09:13

Thanks for the lovely comments about my announcement. We thought it very fitting given the circumstances 😆

@Jessica86Shropshire I told close family as soon as I got the positive pregnancy test. I'm a bloody loud mouth though and I kind of just blurt things out without even thinking 🤣

@Cpr12 I had an early scan this time round (will attach pic for you) baby looked like a Barney 🤣 in all honesty I think they're a rip off but I know they can help keep some worries at bay. I was in the chair for 3 minutes total!

@Jl2020 jesus wept your mum sounds like a warrior woman 🙈 I must say it's the crowning that hurt most for me.. you know when they compare the pain to 'the ring of fire'? They aint lying! 🔥
look up perineal massages also as they can help stretch the skin before you go into labour, you have to do them religiously though!

No idea why it has uploaded the two photos think my phone is playing up 🤣

Cpr12 · 01/04/2021 10:25

@mygrassisbrowner 😂😂😂 totally a miniature barney! It blows my mind the difference between a 9 and 12 week scan! Less than a week for me now 🤗

MyGrassIsBrowner · 01/04/2021 11:13

@Cpr12 I know right.. I LOL'd when I saw it first time 😆
Eeeek it'll be here before you know it, I'm excited for you! 🤩

Jl2020 · 01/04/2021 14:34

@Cpr12 ooh I have heard about that being compared to the ring of fire.. definitely sounds painful😩 I guess giving birth can't really be that bad though when women do it over and over again that's what I tell myself anyway 😂

Jl2020 · 01/04/2021 14:34

@MyGrassIsBrowner sorry meant to tag you in previous post instead of @Cpr12 🤦🏼‍♀️ xx

whitershadeofpale · 01/04/2021 15:02

I’m 10+3 and have found that I’m feeling better this week but have started to be sick in the mornings. Oddly I have much less nausea than before.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 01/04/2021 15:05

@Jl2020 I'm doing it again and honestly two weeks after I had DD if anyone said to me do you want more? I'd have given them a firm f*ck off! Once you have the baba in your arms you literally couldn't give a shit about anything else in the world. I remember I was butt naked when I was being sewn up (I birthed totally naked) and honestly, the Queen could have walked in and I wouldn't have batted an eyelid. You're so high on adrenaline! It's euphoric.

Cpr12 · 01/04/2021 15:43

@jl2020 @mygrassisbrowner I actually think women are genetically made to forget labour. I distinctly remember lying on the floor of the bathroom being sick everywhere in severe pain thinking I would never ever do it again, ever! I didnt even get a baby at the end to make you forget it. At that time I didnt even think doing it again to have a baby was worth it. But while I can still remember thinking it I honestly cant remember how sore it was any more....although I did only have a tiny baby!

BertieBoo88 · 01/04/2021 15:54

Me! 2nd October so only just make it! x

MyGrassIsBrowner · 01/04/2021 17:31

Oh my god did you miscarry first time? @Cpr12
@Jl2020 I dont distinctly remember the pain now but at the time I knew I just had to push through any pain and I was totally determined to birth her. Thankfully my labour wasn't long so I had all the energy. I had the pethidine injection which makes you sleepy between contractions but as my contractions were so close together and so intense it sent me a bit delerious. The pool definitely helped me relax and find my groove but I just mooooooo'd through it all lol! Almost ripped my DH's jeans as I pulled them so hard 🤣
I'd recommend Spritz for bitz by the expert midwife for after birth. I went through a whole bottle 🙈 it's really soothing!
