@Safxxx I'm getting my first sweep on Thursday too. I'm not convinced it will start anything but thought worth a try!

Hi ladies, congratulations to all you ladies who have already had your babies have loved reading through the birth stories.

I’m 39+3 today and must admit I’m starting to struggle now as my first two had arrived by now. Have had every sign possible for the last two weeks and still nothing. Ive read so many women say third babies are unpredictable and guess it’s true!

I see a few of you are booked in for sweeps in the coming days. I have one booked in for Monday and not sure why but I’m so nervous 😬 have any of you had a sweep before? Is it as bad as it sounds?

@Ariana87 It depends on the midwife doing it but if you just explain your feeling nervous about it then she will probably be extra gentle with you. Just press your bum into the bed/table thingy if it starts to hurt and it should help you

39 weeks today and just feel so uncomfortable. Praying he comes this week to avoid sweep next week/potential induction the week after.

@TeaPiglet great, thanks for the tip, will remember that. I have been given such conflicting advice from people whether to have one or not but I’m thinking it’s worth a try. I’m telling myself it can’t be worse than childbirth but it’s more the thought of it. Will also have to remember to leave my dignity at the door

@Ariana87 welcome to the thread! I'm FTM so not totally sure what to expect with a sweep but I just think of it a procedure that's worth a try. My MW explained it as may as well give it a go if it reduces the chance of an induction later on. Who knows if it will kick start anything for me! I hope so 🤞🏽

@TeaPiglet oh great due date twins 🙂 mines at 12.30 eeek so will be having it roughly the same time, that definitely helps thanks! Hopefully we both don’t need the appointments. DH has just called to say work have asked him to start leave today for 10 days (rather than Monday as they can’t get cover) the pressure is well and truly on now for baby to arrive before he goes back to work so that he is around for a few days to help out and has some bonding time with baby 😩 my fingers are tightly crossed that something happens this week or the sweep works on Monday!

@jbx10 fingers crossed! My midwife said the same it’s worth a try. I refused a provisional booking for induction last week as I feel it will add more stress but guessing she will do it on Monday as our trust will only allow to go to 41+10. I’m basically a FTM mum as it’s been nearly 11 years since my last. Hope I can remember how to look after a baby

@Ariana87 👋 hiya welcome to the waiting room ☺️ I’m ftm 40+6 today according to dating scan (a few days less by my calculations). I had a sweep a week ago and I’m having another one today. I’m not that great with smears etc (is anyone?) but didn’t find the sweep too bad. More so of extreme pressure and discomfort rather than acute pain if that makes sense? So I could tolerate it ok and will have another one today. I don’t think they do much unless you’re already on your way but I like to know what’s going on in there.

I didn’t get to discuss induction last week cos of concerns about baby’s heart rate post sweep so we’re talking about that today apparently. I really don’t want to be induced it’s really getting me down. I don’t know if I’d rather go as long as possible and if nothing happens have a section. But I’m scared of something happening to the baby if I let it go too late.

Woke up to toe curling pain at 6am. Nothing since. These night contractions are v annoying! X x x

I'm contracting every 5 to 2 minutes but the intensity is just not enough to go to hospital. Just on my ball feeling tired and a bit frustrated. Been up since the very early hours. My second labour was so much faster and I cant help but compare! Really hope baby decides he's coming today and this doesn't go into another day!

@Ariana87 if he's getting standard UK paternity leave then he can't take it until baby's earth side so can refuse on those grounds if it helps you guys out? It's all on gov.uk ☺️

@ClockSpanner have you been checked out? Could be you're further than you thought maybe? Try to get some high sugar snacks in you sweet pea, you've got this! Third times a charm allegedly

@Muriel84 👋🏽 I love that, the waiting room lol. That’s good to know, glad it wasn’t painful for you did your midwife say if you’re already dilated or cervix softening? Really hope your sweep today works 🤞🏽 I am feeling exactly the same with the ever increasing likelihood of an induction. I want to do more research into it but don’t want to scare myself even more than I already am and likewise don’t want to risk leaving baby too long. It’s such a hard decision.

@TeaPiglet thanks he’s self employed so has to rely on the company he’s contracted to, to provide cover which unfortunately means he doesn’t get much of a say as it’s dependant upon them having someone available which is annoying but can’t be helped.

@Ariana87 she said I was 1cm dilated, cervix was long but soft. Baby’s head was v low and in a good position. But that was a week ago now! Hopefully they’ll have been some change today...

Got a phone consultation with my consultant who still insisted i get induction 2 days after due date. I declined it said 10days instead. So will go for the sweep this thursday and see how it goes 🤞

I had my 38 week midwife appointment last Friday and not seeing one now until I'm due with is the 26th Feb, which means for me that they won't offer me a sweep until I'm over, is that right for most? Getting a bit upset as I thought they would have booked me in for a sweep on my 40 week appointment like they did with my last 2 babies.
Everytime I go to a midwife app it's someone different telling me something different to the others and having to explain what my last births were like pretty much everytime, is this normal these days? I'm getting pretty frustrated now. I even had one telling me they wouldn't let me go over 40 weeks because I'm nearly 40 and it would safer to induce, I'm so confused 😕

It's my second (Due25th) and I assumed I would have been offered a sweep at 40 weeks like last time but she said this time she wouldn't sweep me until 41 weeks 😭 the sweep totally worked for me 1st time but who knows if I would have went on my own anyway!

I was wondering then if I'm swept at 41 weeks when would the induction be booked for as would want to give the sweep time to work if that makes sense!

@LBoz39 I'm due on the 23rd and will see midwife that day as she is at my GP surgery on Tuesdays. She said I would have a sweep and they would book me in for induction on the 2nd March (41 weeks) as they aren't letting people get to 42 weeks in my area atm

@LBoz39 thats weired, she should see you once a week after 36wks. I had my 38wk appt with her last thurs and she booked me another this thurs, also said if i don't want sweep this week shes happy to do it next week. I turned 40 last mth and consultant was persistent in getting me induced on my due date 21st feb, but my midwife reassured me age is fine as long as no other risk factors (which i don't have) so she arranged another phone consultation and told me to decline it and wait 10 days after due date. Meanwhile shes happy to do a sweep if i want it and is fine if i don't. No pressure thats what i like.
