2 weeks today until my scan, I'll be 13+4. I phoned the hospital who said that's fine for the combined screening and sadly my DH can't come in with me 😥

Does anyone else have to go/had their scan alone?

Squibble84 · 02/03/2021 09:52

@Rach921 sorry you’re feeling so overwhelmed, it’s definitely tougher not having the support of partners at scans, but I think they might be allowed to the 20 week scan as that’s more detailed? Probably depends on the trust though. I think it’s quite common for sickness to ease off towards the end of the first trimester for lots of people, hopefully the time goes quickly until your scan!

@Lozza85 that’s a relief than that the combined screening will be fine - with my first pregnancy I was 13 + 2 (ish) when I had my scan and screening. Yeah I had to go alone but DH can come to the 20 week scan.

I got through to the head of screening at my epu and they’ve booked me in to have the harmony through the NHS, I still have to pay but it’s cheaper than going private. I’m also going to have the consultant who will do a detailed scan at 16 weeks and potentially a CVS/amniocentesis depending on the results. So hopefully fingers crossed, I get the all clear from the harmony and that won’t be needed! 🤞

Hope everyone is ok!

Rach921 · 02/03/2021 10:06

@CherylLW thank you, that’s really helpful and put my mind at rest. Booking is this afternoon so hoping it’ll be ok. The letter came through last night and said I need to take urine sample, which I don’t know, so I wasn’t prepared! Found an unused travel shampoo bottle which I’ll have to use 😂 I’m sure I won’t be the first person to have done that!

@Squibble84 thank you. I had read about symptoms easing so I’m hoping that’s what’s happening. I’m glad you’ve managed to get harmony booked through the NHS. Keeping everything crossed for you 🤞🏻

Does anyone else suffer with trouble sleeping? I always have done but it’s so much worse since I’ve been pregnant!

Kirky658 · 02/03/2021 10:16

@rach921 I've taken a sample in the past to my gp in an oregano jar. Wouldn't worry 🤣 with you on the trouble sleeping some nights I lie awake for ages. I get so hot and sweaty at night then keep thinking things over and over in my head, and then waking to pee regularly.

I have my scan tomorrow afternoon and starting to freak out. I swear my nausea has got worse since I hit 11 weeks, thought it should get worse instead of better, I feel literally like I could throw up this morning and feel awful. See how I feel but tempted to call in sick if I don't feel better so I can at least go to bed!

Mamabearwhere · 02/03/2021 10:44

Has anyone got their scan during 11 weeks? I mentioned yesterday that I was booked for 13+ weeks and worried about it being late to check neck fluid so I called and ask to bring it forward a bit. They’ve just sent me a text to say new appointment is on 8th which means I’ll be 11+4 days. Is that too early? I can’t remember how far I was for the 12 week scan the last pregnancies. It’s so annoying that you can’t just speak to them on the phone.

CherylLW · 02/03/2021 10:44

@Rach921 I’m glad it put your mind at rest a bit, it’s just the unknown isn’t it which is difficult. Luckily I did my sample when I was there so no unusual urine pots for me 😂 I can imagine they get all kinds of crazy things!!

@Kirky658 will be thinking of you tomorrow, it’s not too long to wait now but it seems like forever doesn’t it! My sickness ramped up again the day of my scan I don’t know if the nerves and lack of sleep due to worry helped at all with that. A few days after my scan it calmed back down again thankfully! X

Mamabearwhere · 02/03/2021 10:46

@Lozza85 I’ll be going to my scans etc alone as DH will need to stay with the kids. I don’t mind as it will be the only “me time” since lockdown 🤣

Bubbles1st · 02/03/2021 10:49

I have my scan today, so nervous and excited. Do they give you nt fluid measurements there and then or does it come back with the blood test result?

Rach921 · 02/03/2021 10:56

@Kirky658 ha I feel better about my shampoo bottle now 😂 same with the sleeping, I get so hot and sweaty and my mind just goes into overdrive. Also up constantly for a wee!

I hope the scan goes ok. Maybe go back to bed for a bit? There’s no point pushing yourself through if you’re feeling awful. Listen to your body and rest up

KHR1 · 02/03/2021 11:14

@Rach921 my sleeping has got so much worse the last few weeks. I'm normally quite a light sleeper any but recently I feel like I've spent more time turning over and constantly get too warm!

Hope all goes well with your scan today @Bubbles1st . The sonograoher told me our nt fluid measurement whilst we were there but I don't remember them saying this in my last pregnancy. Think it usually comes back with the letter

Kirky658 · 02/03/2021 11:15

@mamabearwhere my scan tomorrow is at 11+4 so I'll let you know how it goes!

@cheryllw thanks lovely

@rach921 feeling a bit better now after a slice of toast smothered in lemon curd. Not the healthiest but what can you do!

Equimum · 02/03/2021 11:53

Bubbles1st good luck with your scan today.

I don’t think being slightly before 12 weeks matters. I didn’t have a scan until nearly 14 weeks with my last pregnancy, due to having been out of the country. Although it was too late for the normal combined screening, even then, they said there was a different test they could do.

I sonny remember getting an actual fluid measurement at the scan, but I did remember the sonography saying it all looked fine and she wasn’t concerned.

unicornpower · 02/03/2021 13:21

@Rach921 I felt the exact same way as you do, my symptoms cleared up and I panicked loads! So much so I booked a scan just to check as my anxiety was awful- good luck with your booking appointment, I hope it puts your mind at rest a bit!

@Bubbles1st good luck for your scan! Thinking of you x

Allicit · 02/03/2021 13:33

Was thinking I could maybe say hello as just had dating scan which puts EDD at 3/09 praying for a September birth to avoid August but pretty sure I don't get a say in that!

Kirky658 · 02/03/2021 14:37

@allicit hello! 😊 Welcome. Just a random question why don't you want an August date? For me I'd prefer it as DH is a teacher. Lol 😊

RaeRae84 · 02/03/2021 14:38

Had my scan yesterday, EDD 1st September. They couldn't do the tests because of the position of the baby so have to go back in a few weeks for different tests. Has this happened to anyone before? It's my first so nothing to compare to and none of my friends had this issue. Thankfully everything is looking good so far. I had awful morning sickness which has only just started to ease off now thank god. I'm also someone that can't sleep. I'm not hot, I just keep having really vivid dreams that wake me up plus needing the loo a few times. Can never get comfortable either!
Told my boss today too so that's a weight off, definitely over stressed that too 😂 anyone else feel like a walking stresshead!?

Allicit · 02/03/2021 15:03

@Kirky658 I think I just got it in my head about school - so being the oldest in the year rather than being the youngest as read the research suggests that's more difficult in general. I just prefer the idea of having more time at home together to develop before school starts. But also I am just a massive control freak, although learning to be less so through this!

@RaeRae84 yes I am definitely a giant stresshead all of the time at the moment.

RaeRae84 · 02/03/2021 15:06

@Allicit it's so hard isn't it. I'm naturally a person who does worry a lot but trying hard to keep calm. I can't though! Also have the same thing as you about a September baby. I'm keeping my legs shut and praying 😂

Squibble84 · 02/03/2021 15:08

@Bubbles1st I hope your scan has gone well! @Kirky658 good luck for yours tomorrow!

@Allicit welcome to the group! I’m also hoping baby doesn’t come early - as a teacher, I don’t want them to be the youngest in the year group and miss out on that extra year of pre-school where it’s not so formal!

Hi @RaeRae84 I think it can be quite common for them not to get measurements especially if the baby keeps moving! Mine wouldn’t stay still so the sonographer said she might have trouble but then they must have tires themselves out and fallen asleep so it was ok!

Kirky658 · 02/03/2021 15:12

@raerae84 I'm always a gigantic stress head but deffo worse than usual.
@allicit ahhh I see I've heard that before, chatted to my DH about it actually and he said as a teacher he's actually never had that issue himself where they struggle more so perhaps it's just an anecdotal thing.
@squibble84 thanks hun, just trying to keep busy today and tomorrow, hoping and praying all is ok

Feel like I've put so much weight on already 🤔 I can't stop eating

RaeRae84 · 02/03/2021 15:26

@Kirky658 good to know I'm not the only stresshead and I also can't stop eating. None of my jeans do up now 🙈
@Squibble84 ah ok, she told me to jiggle around and then rock on the bed but nothing was working. Will just wait for these other tests. I find it hard to follow everything they say. With masks on and when you're in a bit of a nervous state it's hard to concentrate. Was very lucky that yesterday was the first day they were letting partners in as well for all main scans.

Bubbles1st · 02/03/2021 16:39

Scan went well- higher sigh of relief, just need to wait for blood test to see if low/ high risk for chromosome defects but NT fluid measurement was nice and low.

Bubbles1st · 02/03/2021 16:45

I meant huge sigh!

Equimum · 02/03/2021 16:53

Congratulations to everyone who has had their scans.

Allicit we already have a late August child and I will definitely be trying to keep my legs crossed this time. FWIW it’s getting easier, in most areas, to decelerate August babies and send them to school as though they were September babies. My son is currently in Reception but was already 5 when he started.
