Good luck everyone for your scans this week! 😍 mines not until next Wednesday! I should be 13 weeks and 3 days! Worried I’m going to be further along and they won’t be able to measure the fluid behind babies neck, they won’t do it after 14 weeks. I should be under a consultant too but I’ve had no letter or anything 🤔

bewitchingnight · 01/03/2021 11:04

Yes it turned out it was because of my husband's medical history, so must have been triggered by the booking appointment. I think it was so early because they wanted to know if we wanted to have any sort of invasive testing (which we didn't). Then they gave me the sort of timeline of consultant appointments. It was a bit of a non event but that might be because I wasn't far along at that point!

I decided to ring because the letter had no indication of what it was for and I was torn between knowing I would worry about it!

Noodles4Me · 01/03/2021 11:36

Good luck with scans this week ladies. Nervy time I know.

Got my NIPT/Harmony back. All good, extremely low risk. Also turns out I'm having a little boy. SmileBear

Lozza85 · 01/03/2021 11:44

@Maybebaby29 my scan is still 2 weeks away and I'll be 13+4. I hadn't thought about them not being able to measure the fluid at the neck...I don't know why my scan is so late when I had my booking appointment at 9 weeks

unicornpower · 01/03/2021 11:49

@Noodles4Me yay a little boy! How exciting 😀 great news about the harmony tests too, that must be such a relief!

@Kirky658 eeek not long to go, what time is your scan?

Mine isn't until next Friday when I'll be 12+4 but still feels an absolute AGE away. Im counting down the days

Maybebaby29 · 01/03/2021 12:29

@Noodles4Me congrats on the little boy 💙
@Lozza85 I should be 12 weeks exactly when I go for my scan but baby is measuring 10 days ahead according to my private scans! I wasn’t sure whether to ring and push it forward a bit just to make sure baby’s not jumped up in size again. Some hospitals must be more busy than others that might be the earliest you can get in? Worth a call to see if you can move it if your worried

Kirky658 · 01/03/2021 12:34

@Noodles4Me that's great news ❤️
@unicornpower it's not till 4pm on weds so I doubt I'll get much work done that day... I've told my boss it's a hospital appt, she was like 'is everything OK, are you feeling well' I was deliberately vague and like yeah just a check up... Lol she's gonna have an exciting next Monday!!! When I plan to tell her tehehe

Squibble84 · 01/03/2021 12:51

@Noodles4Me that’s great! Congrats on having a little boy! 💙

My risk of trisomies have come back as 1:4871 for T21 (Down syndrome) and 1:649 for t13/18. I’m not sure how to feel about the results - T13 is what our first daughter was diagnosed with during our first pregnancy so even though 1:649 is not considered high risk, it’s not as reassuring as having the number be in the thousands, and seems to be considered medium risk according to online sources I’ve found.

I don’t know whether it’s worth getting the harmony or not. I always said after the last time that even if I found out there was a problem again, I would just let nature take its course as going through the tfmr was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do and I’ve lived with the guilt ever since.

Has anyone else had their nhs results back yet with their risk results and are happy to share them?

Mamabearwhere · 01/03/2021 13:01

@Noodles4Me aw congratulations on little boy! How exciting. @Lozza85 I’m also having my scan at 13+ weeks, i didn’t even know they couldn’t measure baby’s neck fluid if it’s much over 12 weeks. I’ve just called the hospital to ask to change my scan to next week when I’ll be 12 weeks but she didn’t sound hopeful and said she’d check and call me back.

2021mumma · 01/03/2021 13:10

@Noodles4Me congratulations on getting your test results back and also having a little boy! It’s such a relief knowing this! X

Equimum · 01/03/2021 13:24

Kirky658 could you call and ask what the appointment is about. I don’t think it necessarily means you’ll be consular at led - they sometimes just want to check things etc, and may refer you back to being midewife-led. My understanding is that there are many trigger marker for being referred to obstetrics, but often they don’t take charge. I had to see the consultant in my last pregnancy due to to losing a lot of blood and having a severe tear with my first. They discussed birth options and wrote that the team should be prepared for a significant bleed when I laboured, and I never saw them again. The same referral was made again at my booking appointment this time. I’ll also get an appointment through to see the perinatal mental health team as I had a significant mental health issue years before having children. Again, last time they saw me a discharged me.

Squibble84 I’m sorry your results didn’t come back as positive as you had hoped. Is there anyone you can discuss it with? Does the fact that you have already had a pregnancy affected by the trisomy affect the score? (Sorry if that sounds silly, but I’m not sure what factors they use to calculate the risk). Good luck with whatever testing you decide to take, or not to take.

Noodles4Me that’s fantastic news.

MrsMcNtobe · 01/03/2021 13:34

Has anyone has tummy issues as in constipation 🙈 mine seems to be getting worse and I’m sure it’s because of the iron tablets, I got lactulose but it isn’t really helping I’m sitting here and my stomach is making the most awful noises 😳 so glad I’m on my own 🤣 I’m going to go to Asda after work so if anyone has ANY suggestions at all of things I can try then I can pick them up 🤞🏼 My friend swears by hot water and eating two pears so that’s my first step

unicornpower · 01/03/2021 13:38

@Squibble84 is there someone you could call at the hospital about maybe getting further tests on the NHS? Considering what you've already been through they might be able to help you in the first instance by doing other tests maybe? I'm sorry it wasn't what you hoped- like @Equimum said above, is there a chance that because you already had a pregnancy affected by the trisomy, its showing a medium risk when it may be nothing to worry about? I hope youre okay- I havent had my tests yet but when I do i will share the results with you if you still need it Smile

Mamabearwhere · 01/03/2021 13:54

@MrsMcNtobe contrary to this pregnancy, I was severely constipated both previous times and eating dried prunes and dried apricots were the only thing that helped plus a glass of warm water in the morning. Try to avoid bananas as they can make it worse. Sorry you’re going through this. Neither extremes are nice! Ah the joys

FTEngineerM · 01/03/2021 14:12

Congrats @Noodles4Me how exciting to know already.

@Squibble84 sorry you haven’t had your worries relaxed with the NIPT, with your previous pregnancy did you have the NIPT result or was it diagnosed another way?

Can you do any further testing?

I'm panicking as I just realised I ate mouldy toast for breakfast... Praying everything is OK!!!

KHR1 · 01/03/2021 15:04

Good luck for everyone having scans this week, hope all goes well.

Congrats @Noodles4Me

@Squibble84 I'm sorry that your results haven't been as reassuring as you hoped. Has anyone offered to talk through your results with you and offer further testing or support? Wishing you all the best with whatever happens.

Squibble84 · 01/03/2021 15:08

@Mamabearwhere fingers crossed they can bump up your appointment! I was 13 + 2 with my first pregnancy and they had no problem taking all the measurements.

@Kirky658 I honestly wouldn’t worry! I know that’s easier said than done but it was a one off! You’re not eating mouldy bread every day so I’m sure it’s all fine!

Thanks for the replies guys, my background risk has actually got better odds than my adjusted risk which goes by the blood test results so that’s not massively reassuring! With our first pregnancy, we had soft markers at the 12 week scan (which was actually done at over 13 weeks) plus the harmony and a cvs where they use a needle to take cells from the placenta. I’m going to ring the screening team at my hospital to see what they say - they were meant to ring me anyway to discuss it but I just got the letter in the post today! 🤷‍♀️

Kirky658 · 01/03/2021 15:15

@squibble84 thanks hun. I'm one of those people where I worry about things I can change easily rather than things I can't particularly with this pregnancy jt would seem! DH will be home from work later, I'll tell him and he will probably tell me off for being daft, 🤣

Poppins2016 · 01/03/2021 15:19

@MrsMcNtobe I highly recommend dried prunes. I speak from experience...

Early pregnancy can cause constipation even without the iron tablets making it worse, poor you!

Rach921 · 01/03/2021 15:44

Hey ladies. I posted a few weeks back but then I’ve been off the radar but I’ve been keeping track of how you’re all doing. I was feeling a little bit overwhelmed if I’m honest.

I’ve got my booking appointment tomorrow and my scan on 12th March which will be when I’m exactly 12 weeks. What should I expect for the booking appointment? The hospital lost my referral and it’s only because I chased last week as I still hadn’t heard that they realised I wasn’t on the system. So I’ve not had my letter through with the dates explaining it all to me, as they gave them to me on the phone Friday. Little bit anxious as this is my first so it’s all very new to me. Also worried about going to the hospital especially as my partner isn’t allowed! Do they do bloods at the booking appointment or is that when I have my scan? Sorry for all of the questions!

I’d been pretty poorly with sickness, and have been on cyclizine since week 7, however over the weekend all of my symptoms have stopped. No sickness, got loads of energy again. I read about your body levelling out at 10 weeks but I’m also worried somethings wrong. It’s all so stressful isn’t it! X

MrsMcNtobe · 01/03/2021 16:06

@Mamabearwhere @Poppins2016 dried prunes it’s gonna be 😢 are they just like big raisins?! I’ll have to give them a go, can’t moan if I’m not trying to help myself!

Mamabearwhere · 01/03/2021 16:27

@MrsMcNtobe honestly they’re really yummy, they’re less dry than raisins and they have a sweet/sour taste. They are dried plums. I often get them as a snack now after first trying them during pregnancy. Good luck!

CherylLW · 01/03/2021 16:44

Hey @Rach921

Sorry to hear you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s so easy to do and when we start worrying there seems to be no stopping it! I’m now 13+3 with my first also so I can understand the anxiety and stress you’re feeling.

My booking appointment was over the phone and they asked me a lot of questions about my health, feelings, the health of the father etc. I then had an appointment at the hospital to take my booking bloods. I think some places are doing face to face booking appointments so I assume they would do the bloods at the same time if that was the case.

When I had my 12 week scan they took more bloods from me and they were for Down’s syndrome etc and the results come back about a week later.

It’s hard not being able to have your partner there but I find at the hospitals the staff are all very lovely and are very aware that people will be needing a little more reassurance as they will be on there own.

My symptoms definitely came and went, my sickness calmed down at about 11 weeks and then come back strong for about a week and now it’s calming down again... xx

Poppins2016 · 01/03/2021 17:15

@MrsMcNtobe I'm the same as @Mamabearwhere, first tried prunes during my last pregnancy and have bought as an occasional snack ever since. They're also really nice as an addition to muesli/granola, especially with some Greek yoghurt!

A word of caution and a potentially helpful tip rolled into one... I packed prunes in my hospital bag when I had my first baby, so that the first post partum poo was easy (it worked!). But I ate loads and was then a bit surprised when we had so many diet newborn nappies (above and beyond usual expectations). Turns out that you're advised to eat prunes if you're breastfeeding and baby has constipation as it helps them in the same manner... so if/when you breastfeed, just beware!
